Searched for cafes that were open around 4pm. I saw a picture of the lobster roll without the reviews and decided to stop in. Inside was clean and smelled really good. We stopped at Sena as we were traveling through town. I'm so glad we stopped. The quality of the food was excellent! I had the lobster roll and my husband had the ham and cheese panini. I love this place! From the interior, to the outside seating to the food I highly recommend! I split the ham and swiss panini. No dry bread or cheese here! IT was warm, perfectly toasted and cheesy. The paninis come with a side salad too, also delicious. The menu really has a great selection of sandwiches, paninis, pies, cookies, muffins, coffee, tea, drinks and breakfast items. After noticing a 5 star rating for Sena Cafe here on Yelp, my family and I seized an unexpected opportunity to come by for lunch earlier. The owners are incredibly nice and offer an array of Western and Eastern European foods and desserts. We ordered many things and everything was absolutely delicious! I've eaten at many local European cafes and restaurants and I prefer the foods and desserts here over anywhere else (including Cafe Framboise, Saveurs Du Monde Cafe, Normandy Farm Bakery, or Saffron Cafe & Bakery). Unlike at some European bakeries where the desserts look beautiful but taste so so, everything we ate here tasted as delicious as it looked thanks to the high quality imported European ingredients used. While it is really out of the way for us living out on Folly Beach, we will definitely be making more trips there in the future. I especially recommend their chocolate croissant (ask for it to be warmed), spicy sandwich, baklava (it's the Balkans version), and mocha frappe. Tucked away behind the Harris Teeter shopping center, Sena Cafe is a family-owned coffee shop and cafe with some amazing desserts. The desserts are not your average, run-of-the-mill selections that you find at other bakeries. The chef went to culinary school in Europe, so everything is unique and flavorful, from the chocolate cake-in-a-cup to the croissants and the fruity fluff desserts. So far, the chocolate cake has been my favorite. The vanilla latte was one of the best cups of coffee I've had in Charleston. The coffee is creamy and rich and very easy to drink, not bitter, acidic or burnt like some of the "chain" coffee shops. Almond milk is offered as well as several flavors. All of the staff members are welcoming and happy to make suggestions and recommendations. I really liked the food here. The bacon, egg and cheese croissants are delicious; we also had something called Keto Cado, which it's like a salad with diced grilled chicken breast, red onion, avocado, bell pepper, cucumber, and tomato dressed in lemon juice and olive oil, served in two avocado shells topped with two strips of crispy bacon, and it was absolutely amazing. The pastries are also great. We tried the blueberry scone, the cheese danish and the blueberry and cream cake. This terrific North Mount Pleasant neighborhood gem is tucked behind Harris Teeter but don't give up on trying to find it. The best way to enter is off of Sweetgrass Basket Parkway just below Six Mile Road. You won't be disappointed!!! Terrific coffee and wonderful selection of breakfast and lunch options (haven't been for dinner but if the freshness and taste of the breakfast and lunches are any indication.....this place is a winner). Baked goods are also a huge winner! On our latest visit we were treated to the Apple Pie and it was wonderful! The service is excellent and the outdoor seating is a huge bonus with a bunch of tables in the green space beside the cafe. More people need to patronize this local gem!!! Love it! read more

Update: We just tried the new Keto Cado and it is insanely good! Fresh avocado, tomatoes, smoked turkey and Chef Ogi's touch. My wife loved the fact that it only has 3.5 carbs? It's very filling too. My son had a very good prime rib sandwich and we took desserts home. You can't go wrong with any of the cakes either. First review What a great addition to our part of town. My wife and I stopped by for some lunch. We had a Spicy Chicken Wrap and a Healthy Salad. Everything was very fresh and the taste absoluteldelicious. The pastries look really good too. But just wanted to make a mention of our lunch today. Having moved here from Maine one thing my wife really misses is a lobster roll. Today she asked about the lobster roll at Sena and they explained how it's prepared with a mixture that goes on the lobster roll. My wife prefers to eat it plain with just the melted butter, so no problem they prepared it the way she likes and it was fantastic plus the price is great compared to so many other places that charge a lot more for a lot less lobster. read more

For almost 10 years I have said Yelp never lets me down with their great reviews, until today. I can't understand the 5 star reviews for Sena Cafe. I ordered a $9 Power Shrimp Wrap. The wrap was as big as my head. It was supposed to have veggies, shrimp and chutney. I received a head-sized lettuce wrap. I had to dig for shrimp and couldn't find chutney. It was 12:30 in the afternoon and I tried to order a beer. I was told they couldn't give us alcohol (no explanation why- I am waaaay over 21 years old LOL). There is a whole page of alcohol advertised and nothing about alcohol served at specific times. Staff was very friendly and the cafe was clean. This cafe seems a part of an apartment community adjoined to a shopping center. It's got nice outdoor seating, but downtown Charleston it ain't. I was also kind of unimpressed by the baked items I saw sitting on display at the counter, including a bland-looking little bagel and some pastries that didn't look all that fresh or fancy. My chai was sweet and reasonably tasty, but the thing that turned my opinion positive was the pearl sugar waffle. A lot of things have sugar in them, but this was a properly done waffle where you really taste the sugar that's there as it's so perfectly crystallized. In addition to the waffle itself, I got a substantial amount of Nutella and fresh fruit, which all blended together fantastically well. A healthy breakfast? Not really, but a delicious one for sure. Love the coffee! Have had iced, hot, latte and it's all great - not bitter and requires little "doctoring" with cream or sugar. Black coffee can tell you a lot about how good it is. I have enjoyed the smoked salmon sandwich, the healthy choice salad, a couple of pastries, and dessert. All selections I've had are very good. The healthy choice salad is amazing and a perfect lunch portion. Made with kale and paired with other items to turn what many think of as bitter greens into a very fresh, tasty, and naturally sweet salad thanks to the additional of items like carrots and dried fruit. The chef knows what he's doing and the family in the front of the house certainly can direct you on what foods or coffee might be enjoyed based on a couple of basic questions about your preferences. Hope this new place tucked behind businesses off of Hwy 17 makes a huge name for itself (it certainly is worthy) and the Charleston area supports this local business.
