If you've read my other reviews you know that I can be rather direct. It's rare that I give any place a perfect review. Rare, but not impossible. The Chatty Magpie Cafe is an amazingly cute place and is super convenient for my trek from Rt 26 across Ashley-Phosphate to Dorchester. I LOVED IT! I'm a CT transplant and have been looking for that hard to describe place that we northerners know exist. It's that "Hole in the wall, one step shy of a Greek diner, not a franchise or big name" kind of place. My search has ended. The owner greeted us as we walked in. She is very hospitable. She invited us to order and then take a seat. Our food was perfectly prepared. In fact, we both felt like she was charging too little for what we got. The sandwiches were amazing! We also got a slice of her "Lemon Roulette." She served it fresh from being rolled. It had the perfect balance of flavor and sweetness. I asked the owner about it and she said that all of her baked items are freshly made. If you're looking for a place to get an exceptionally delicious, breakfast or lunch sandwich at a great price and served quickly, this should be your new place to go. I know it is mine.

I just celebrated the one-year anniversary of this fantastic cafe! The atmosphere was incredibly welcoming and celebratory, complete with karaoke, balloons, and adorable outdoor decor. To mark the occasion, they introduced two new menu items: a delicious pork sandwich and perfect pancakes. I have to rave about the pancakes--they were just the right thickness and topped with honey. Who knew honey and pancakes were such a winning combination! If you're ever looking for breakfast or brunch, I highly recommend making a stop here. Everything is made with care: the sandwiches are always fresh, the bread is baked daily, and the bagels and pastries are handmade every few days. Elena and her team of cashiers and bakers are super nice, welcoming, and accommodating, always ready to answer any questions. Don't want to forget mention that this bakery also offers catering! You can order custom pies for special events, or get a catered spread of sweets and bagels--including custom-made cream cheeses. Check the side menu for all their special order options!

A NEW PLACE What an absolute gem! Elena, the owner/operator/head chef/designer... has done a magnificent job creating a warm, inviting and totally scrumptious place to get great coffee, sandwiches, and pastries. I have been raving about this for two days now and it's time for Charleston to discover this 30 day old eatery. The ambience is charming. Elena is engaging. The food is amazing! This is not a "should", it's a "must". Everything is scratch made and there are even nut-free options. Tip: One can even order (and pay for in advance) a big sandwich to pick up fresh the next morning. We are talking a real and affordable counter to fast food. A+

Go check this out! You will not be disappointed. Good made fresh, so don't walk in and be in a hurry, trust me it's worth the wait! I ordered the H. O. T. on rye... Just go check it out, the flavors are perfect! The egg salad is so great to take wrong and the Berry Crumble makes you want to come back for more!

Elena, the owner was delightful! All her offerings are made from scratch and her sandwiches are to order. The menu is diverse but also nostalgic, with breakfast and lunch offerings with southern and European influences. The Loks sandwich was packed with ingredients and smeared with house-made cream cheese. The biscuits was tender and flakey but held up to the loads of bacon, egg, and cheese. The espresso drinks are clean and comforting made with house made caramel sauce. The bakery case was loaded with personal size pies to go and full sized pies are available when ordered in advance.

Alright folks, please allow me to break down why this wonderful cafe is so awesome. Buckle in. Atmosphere: Snuggled into the corner of a shopping center, it truly is as bright and cozy on the inside as it is the outside. The music they had playing this morning were at a good volume and relaxing tunes, in my opinion. Customer service: The two young ladies working this morning were DARLINGS!!! When I mentioned it was my first time there, the one at the register explained things to me, took time to let me know all the pastries were made fresh, and happily would tell me what pastry was what when I would point to them in the display. As I made my (many) choices, the other young lady was paying attention and asking me if I wanted each item warmed (I did). While sitting inside both checked in on me frequently to make sure I had everything I needed and if I was doing okay. Loved it! Also, while I was enjoying my breakfast, coffee, and sweets, another customer came inside, and asked if the owner was in today, which attests to what I believe is her amazing customer service and personality! This alone made me quite happy. Food/coffee: 9.9/10!!!!! A 9.9 because they couldn't make the coffee iced, BUT they said that they're working on getting an ice machine because so many people ask for their coffees iced. It still was delicious anyways, I just like iced in the summer. I got an everything BEC, which hit the spot. Bagel was reminiscent of a NY bagel, chewy and flavorful. Bacon inside was thick and salty, I hate when places serve bacon that's all fat which they didn't do! As for the desserts I got, shamefully I didn't get a picture of them as I dug straight in when I got them nice and warm. The chocolate chip cookie was a sweet chocolate heaven, with that saltiness on top you like to combat too much sweet. So perfect I got a flaky Nutella scone/croissant type pastry (can't remember what it was forgive me) and it was clearly made with love, flaky, with the right amount of Nutella inside. Wonderful. All in all, I love this hidden gem in Summerville, and I'm happy that I came today for breakfast. I will be coming again

First time coming in and I will definitely come back regularly. The owner was lovely, and very helpful. The food was great! My sandwich was delicious and huge. The croissant was perfectly made. Absolutely must try.

Definitely a hidden gem! The owner was very friendly, and made a hell of a sandwich. Inside and outside seating is available but it's hard to beat sitting outside on a nice day. The sandwiches were both fantastic and were definitely bigger than I expected. The coffee and hot chocolate were both great as well.

HOW are there not more reviews for this absolute gem of a place??? The food is absolutely delicious-- for my first time I had a Sooo-o-oeeyyy, aka egg cheese and bacon on brioche. Fresh, hot, crispy fried egg and thick-bacon. Was there egg gravy? Yes, there was. Brioche bun toasted perfectly. Fresh brewed coffee (European style no less)! So let's talk about the hostess with the most-ess... The owner was behind the counter, serving smiles, excellent conversation and deliciousness. Also, I'm in love with the decor! If this joint isn't enough bright cheerfulness to get your day off right, then nothing will. (Did I mention that they open at 6.30?!) Finally, the location is perfect--I've avoided places I truly appreciate just because there's no parking or it's too difficult to get in/out. Chatty is in a strip mall with plenty of parking right at the light. PERFECT for that early morning pull thru. The proprietress is a baker and there's no mistaking her talents--I left with multiple bags of sweets in addition to the remains of my breakfast and folks I'm telling you this is the spot. The I'm a North Chuck gal who likes the good stuff--oftentimes that means heading to WAsh or MtP, but not this time. This is a little slice of EU in NChuck and I'm here for it. Y'all, we need to show this place some love and loyalty--it's well-deserved!

Meeting up for a coffee date I got to Magnolias a little early to settle in. The place is interesting and seems authentic, not like those damn yuppy and pretentious coffee shops with the late 90s liberal sitting in the corner writing the next "great American novel." No, this is a place pregnant ladies come with their family to get some coffee and what appears to be really good food. The place has nice wood tones on the floors and tables with simple seating and fake plants, which I can appreciate b/c I too have fake plants at my house b/c I kill live ones! As for the staff, they're prompt and receptive of what you want to drink as well as giving suggestions. I got there when a much younger late 20 something was working so I tried to spark up a conversation. The young lady looked American, blonde and cute but when she spoke pure Latino! Oddly enough I was meeting a 33-year-old Latino for our first date here (yes, I brushed up on my Spanish, but I just moved from Austin so np here). She was a nice lady but she did forget about my drink order so not as good of a barista as one might desire. But honestly, I was superficial at the moment and she was cute so I overlooked the imperfection. The case had some tasty looking treats like croissants but I refrained. My advice is try one! While I'm a medium roast coffee kind of guy and I like my coffee like the women I date; hot, sweet and blonde. I vary my selection by what I'm in the mood for, sometimes latte, sometimes hot or iced, sometimes mocha, you get the drift; and yes I'm talking about coffee (get your mind out of the gutter). But what I do appreciate is creativity in a beverage and a joint with the courage to put a creation on their menu, Magnolias doesn't have that as they're more straight forward. Instead I opted for the latte with 2 shots caramel, 1 vanilla and one toasted marshmello; try it you'll thank me later. I just wish they had more options like almond. Oh to add, I ordered my date a latte and she acted as if it was water and downed it in 5 minutes, so much for sipping and enjoying. In summary, Magnolia's coffee is really good with what looks as great food. Add to that they create an environment where one can feel safe while sitting inside or just stopping by for a quick interaction with nice employees while waiting for food and it's a recipe for success. While I didn't sample their "edibles" (how's my parking?) they looked wonderful. To finish, the employees are great people, the ambiance is fun and the coffee is great. Stop by if you want something good to pick yourself up or rub elbows with a future leader of America.

Are service was good, wait for food wasn't bad at all. Everything was done well... but I honestly didn't like much of it. It just really defined "not for me". Like the French toast was good except it was just drowning in syrup (rather than letting me put it on myself) and the rosemary flavor in the syrup was not to my taste. If this had been on the side I would have tried a bite and then just asked for regular maple syrup and been happy. The mocha donut, same story. The mocha was bitter and if this was on the side I could have dunked my donut in but instead I didn't have a choice. I'm not mad about it. They are clearly aiming for a particular mindset on food. Something different, something unique, something strongly defined. And I can appreciate and respect that and everything was definitely well executed! But I really would have preferred to have the option to have a more traditional set of flavor profiles. J.Ja
