The thing about beauty, to me, is you have the power to create whatever you want. You can be a fresh faced sweetie, a naughty Vamp, beautiful bombshell, or that everyday girl next door. There are no rules and DON'T EVER LET ANYONE TELL YOU THERE ARE!You decide which colors and textures you want to wear on your face. You do what makes you happy...and that confident happiness that radiates from inside? That makes you beautiful. What I understand from visiting many Sephora locations around the Bay Area is the staff truly have the power to make or break your trip. If the staff are not helpful, unkind, or completely incompetent - you will leave feeling angry. I know this. You need someone to enable your beauty passion. You need someone who will help you touch and sample the things you've been lusting for online. I know. I have had great experiences at this Sephora. It starts with the ladies who greet you at the door. I tell them what I want and that I need someone to follow me around the store because I want to spend my hard earned money but first - I want to see and touch and smell and kind of figure things out in my own way. I also make It clear despite having familiarity with so many products I will probably have a lot of questions. I have never been disappointed with the level of customer service at this specific location. THIS specific stand alone Sephora. My most recent trip? I rang them up and asked about a limited edition palette. The associate I spoke with said they had one, they would hold it, and I didn't have to worry. I went in, my palette was waiting for me so I bought it. I also picked up my lovely free birthday present, and I left with samples for things I wanted to think about purchasing next time. Who are we kidding? I bought everything I had a freshly made samples for online because I tried them all the second I got home. Sephora - this specific Sephora is a great one. You have to give these ladies a break. They aren't going to push you to buy anything, which I like. Just ask for someone to help you. They aren't mind readers. Ask for help. Seriously. ASK FOR HELP. I am an honest and straightforward person - so I have a great time here with the ladies who can work with the data I provide. I usually spend more money than I planned - but for those moments I am in the store being helped by professional, knowledgeable staff - I am happy. I am a happy customer. Yes, Yes. Yes! Tips: You can pretty much have a custom, freshly made sample of most things in the store if you are unsure. Sign up for the membership. Trust me - those VIB and VIB Rouge perks are pretty nice! If you are cruelty free or striving to be cruelty free beauty, just ask the staff to point you to the gazillion quality brands that do not test and you will be in heaven. Sephora has one of the best return policies in the business so do not feel shy to take things back. If you don't love it - take it back. It's kind of like Nordstrom that way. If you shop online like I often do (Ebates!) make sure you pick your 3 free samples and check the rewards boutique for great beauty steals you can get for points! They have been having some excellent 500 point perks lately! If you have to return something you bought online DO NOT go to JC Penny Sephora. They can't do returns. Go to your local stand alone Sephora. Don't take it out on the ladies at JCP Sephora - it's something corporate requires and it is printed on your shipping receipt so complain to corporate. Xochitl got the test done and also gave her own recommendations, helping me test out different shades of both foundation and concealer. She took the time to find a perfect color match and suggested a different brand than the one I was originally looking at because the color matched better. This Sephora at stonestown is very well organized and the MOST of the employees are incredibly helpful and kind. However, the last time we have shopped there, we found that one employee was staring at us a lot of the time we were looking around. Also, another employee seemed like she had some trouble treating us with kindness. When we went up to the counter, the employee was pretty much interrogating us, saying things like "is this your account?", and "what's your name?", and "you guys are here everyday", etc. The point of this review is to state that we are not happy about this incident. I haaaaate shopping at the mall. I hate parking lot drama, screaming children, crowds, etc. I shop online, mostly. But yesterday, I had to go in for exchanges and I didn't want to wait for however long the USPS would take. I took my chances and went to the mall. Lo and behold! There was plentiful parking! I came in was immediately greeted by someone who asked me what I was looking for. I said I wanted to see some cushion foundations. She said, "what!?" So I told her again... a cushion foundation. She looked confused and I repeated myself again and then she said "I don't know what that is". In my head I'm already laughing bc this must be just a joke. You work at Sephora and you are the first person I see at the door and you don't know what a cushion foundation is.... big joke. So she goes on her walkie talkie and asks someone what a cushion foundation was right before I PULLED ONE UP FROM THE SEPHORA WEBSITE. She asks me is it online only?? How would I know, I don't work for your company lady! She couldn't hear the response on her walkie supposedly there was something wrong with her earpiece. So another person comes... walks me to the two types of cushion foundation was like here blah blah blah blah bye. I open the Dior one bc she said it was most popular. It was disgusting af. Foundation ALL OVER IT... and all over every single one. As well as the other brand... as soon as you open the compacts... the foundation was seriously everywhere. It was soooooo disgusting. This Sephora sucks along with the one at Powell. My friend and I always have a bad encounter here. Some things that happened while shopping here: - One time, I touched a foundation that had a defective lid and it spilled all over my new shoes T.T as I'm wiping it off, this white lady who works there basically thought I was stealing until she saw what happened. Stupid. - Another time, my friend was swatching something she wanted. This African American worker with long braids got salty because we didn't need her help. So she circled around and accused us of messing up the tester when it was totally fine. Bi-polar and pathetic. We feel so uncomfortable coming back to this store. But why should we when we are customers spending money that basically ends up as their paycheck? After having that thought, we continuously came back. We came here on Wednesday 8/21 to shop for the vib sale. My friend got her items and waited to checkout. The line died right as we got in it. This bald guy(found out his name is Andrew) behind the register just finished ringing up a guest and saw that we were in line but refused to help us check out. I always come here for my makeup and skincare needs. The customer service here is great! I love how helpful Holly, Arlyn and Alyssa were! They answered all my questions and helped me prepare some samples I was interested in. I received a foundation match, brow match and a recommendation for a foundation. I have had many bad and very few exceptional experiences with Sephora. To say the least, this store seems to be a-OK for now. I receive friendly greet at the door and offer help inside the store 80% of the time. There were a few times where I felt frustrated bcoz the guy that offer help to look for an item for me ends up wander off and help someone else, when another staff saw me looking frustrated and lost he asked if I have been helped and who helped me. I pointed to the guy and he immediately stormed over pulled him over to guide me which is nice but that guy should have known better to complete the task before wander off ... second and third time the staff that was suppose to help me with the sample ends up taking extremely long time to pkg it for me bc she was busy talking to another staff ... Good times : one of the female staff that works there occasionally always tender to my needs and offer to help every single time I see her ...she is very helpful friendly, and answer to all of my concerns/ questions maybe Sephora needs to shut the doors for few hours and re-train their staffs on customer service ...again! read more

This Sephora may not have as much selection as the huge one on Powell does, but it has more than just the basic staples and the employees here are a lot friendlier. I've always had a good experience here whenever I've gotten a makeover for an event or had questions on products. Two reasons why I love Sephora is the assortment of brands but also the no sales pressure atmosphere. Sephora encourages sampling and questions. Not sure what other cosmetic stores and counters go through but makeup artists here do go through training and I was even told lash certification in order to put false lashes on you. Whenever I got a makeover here for a big holiday party, the makeup artists always take their time and make sure that I love my look. Extra star for five for wonderful customer service. read more

I bought false eyelashes from the Downtown location but was not notified before purchase OR after purchase that I could not return them. I tried to return them at this location and they kept insisting I was lying. Eventually, they allowed me to exchange for store credit, but the female manager at the cashier around 1:30pm on February 22 at had the most disgraceful attitude and rolled her eyes while another manager made the transaction. This place has such bad customer service. Nobody offers to help, so when you do need help, you have to stalk them because they are usually trying to walk away from customers/look "busy." I've seen products online that show they are in stock at this location, but every single time I come in, they never seem to be there. And when I ask the manager, she always says she has no idea what I'm talking about. She says she has never even heard of the products I'm talking about (e.g., Tarte Kiss and Belle Lip Set). I am an avid fan of Sephora. I remember reading about this huge beauty retailer in Paris, France from address section in Allure magazine. I never got to go to the Paris store but was very happy when the 1st San Francisco store opened on Stockton street, now closed. There is another Sephora downtown. I was so surprised to see a Sephora open in the Stonestown Mall. My bank account is going to take a hit. I am impressed with the size and what they managed to carry at this store. No Pupa or Iman but some other great selections. I love the variety of cosmetics, makeup and skincare products you find at Sephora. I love NARS and the funky colors and glimmer concoctions. I now know tattoo artist Kat Von D has a makeup line. Kevin Aucion's line is new to me also. The private label Sephora cosmetics, makeup is an excellent purchase if you just want to try a new color or look. There is now a O.P.I Nail polish Sephora brand. Sephora carries the entire DDF line. I am in heaven. DDF's skincare has improved my skin immensely. I bought a Murad medicated concealer and some accessories. read more

Oh Sephora... Mind you, I'm a frequent shopper at Sephora Downtown. For some reason, this Sephora needs to update on their PK (product knowledge). I came in today to grab a Viktor & Rolf Flower Bomb travel w/ refill for a friend and the girl that greeted me had no clue what I was talking about. First I said Viktor & Rolf and she looked at me like a deer in headlights. Then I said...Flowerbomb??? Then she said "OOOOOOH! all we have is the rollerball!" As I followed her to the cash wrap she showed me exactly what I wanted, the travel w/ refill...hmmm...but I didn't want to be an ass and correct her, but that definitely was not the roller ball, it came with a funnel, which means it's a travel refill. The rollerball comes in a slim box. Just saying... Anyhow, this location is pretty selective and rarely has the products I want or need. Put it this way, take all the Sephoras in San Francisco and grab what they have left in backstock, put all those items together and you have the Stonestown store. I'm confused and a bit perturbed by my experience at Sephora during this COVID time. When I arrived at the store there appeared to be 1-2 customers in the store and a few workers - point being it was very empty! I wanted to go in and out quickly as I had a limited amount of time in the mall. So again the store was empty; however, I was not able to go in, no I had to line up and wait for a sales associate to come to the door to allow me in as the worker outside kept me out. Last time this happened I had time to spare so I waited patiently only to have to be escorted into the specific part of the store I mentioned to the sa. Then she kept hanging around me which was not pleasant and made me uncomfortable. Today I didn't even go in. It seems to me more like a sly ploy or deterrent using the COVID excuse to prevent theft? Other reviewers have mentioned the staff watches intently at times? To further confuse me, This is not my experience with other Sephora's at this time. This store has an issue with the staff. They're so incredibly rude. The second I walked in, there was an employee asking me if I needed anything. I said no, I just wanted to browse. Every 30 seconds, I would turn around and I would see an employee looking at me. Straight at me, making eye contact like it was a staring contest. I felt so creeped out. Stopped by Sephora to get color matched for Benefit's The Big Easy Liquid To Powder SPF 35 Foundation. The girl was super nice and even gave me samples of two shades so I can test and see if it's really for me. I also asked for a sample of Origin's GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream and she was not snooty about it at all. Overall, I've never had a bad experience here. I usually come to this Sephora whenever I'm in San Francisco because it's the only Sephora I can go to where it's easy for my boyfriend to find parking at. The Sephora staff at this location are really nice. The first time I went & I wanted a promotional sample that I got from an e-mail, they made me a sample because they ran out. The second time I went, they ran out of another sample so they gave me two other ones for me to test out. I also like how this Sephora location always has the items I want in stock since other Sephora locations run out of them, so I never have to make multiple Sephora trips when I want to buy a lot of items at once. Heather is really helpful and she takes her time to help you find the item that you need, while some other Sephora stores really rush their time with you so they can hurry and help someone else. I guess the only downside from this store (just like a lot of other stores in the Bay Area) is that they don't carry Bobbi Brown. I have been to a lot of Sephora locations, this isn't my favorite, but this store is definitely at the top! read more

I came here with my daughter and her friend. I decided to finally try some items from the FENTY line. However we walked around the store looking at different items for at least 20 minutes. We were never approached by a Sales associate due to they were too busy just watching and waiting for us to steal something which is ABSURD. I was not really thinking like that at first but then my suspicions were confirmed because we kept crossing paths with different team members and they would look me in my eyes NOT SAY ANYTHING but talk to other staff on their headsets. This never happens on Powell Street. I asked for the store managers name before we decided to leave. However when I was getting ready to walk out the door I was approached by the store Director David. He was nice and everything but I still won't be coming back here.
