Let's be real, Sephora is my happy place. This one especially has an AMAZING selection. And excellent service. I've noticed that this Sephora normally has all of the more indie/up and coming brands that some of the other smaller stores don't (yes, this store is MASSIVE). So this has become my go to store for new products. Service is great, as with any Sephora, the employees are helpful and always trying their best. (If you fall in love with one of the employees, be sure to go onto their site and leave them a good review from what I know it really helps them out). I'd give zero stars if I could. Terrible service by "Nick" the supervisor I spoke with. He wouldn't give me his last name or even last initial. Twice I have not received a product by Ontrac, the service they use to deliver my products. I have been a Sephora member for many years and I purchased a small Benefit Bad Gal Bang mascara and the promoted Grand Lash Kit. In addition I was supposed to get an additional small Bad Gal Bang masacara as a gift with my points. Due to the fact that their incompetent delivery service was unable to deliver my products TWICE I am now out my points and free product. The supervisor Nick has no desire to make this right at all and treated me with extreme rudeness. I will never shop with this company again and advise that nobody else does since they clearly do not stand by their word. I will also be sending these regards to my family and friends. read more

I was getting headshots taken and even though I carry a makeup bag in my purse regularly, I realized I'd left some pretty important staples at home (foundation, setting powder, contour stuff etc). I was able to come in as a walk-in and have a makeup artist do my face and brows at no charge! My plan was to return after my hair appointment, but that took so long I didn't get a chance to come back and pick up the items they used (note: this is not a requirement for me as a VIB Rouge, I just actually wanted to pick up a couple of the items). The staff here is also pretty nice. I normally go to the Sephora in Emeryville, but I was in the SF area and decided to swing by this location. After my wonderful experience, I have to give the team here props. I went in looking for a new primer or some makeup product to manage my serious mid-day oiliness and redness. After discussing my skin care routine with one of the ladies on the floor, she actually suggested that the issue might be with the moisturizer I was using. Honestly, that never even occurred to me!! She pointed me in the right direction and I was quickly linked up with another sales lady in the skin care department. She sent me home with a bunch of samples so I could be sure to choose the right product for me. Turns out they were 100% correct because using the correct moisturizer has solved my problem. I had a great mini facial from associate Rachel W yesterday! For the price $free.99 it was a wonderful value, with 15 min of skincare regimen consultation and application of 8 different products as well as the opportunity to get whatever samples I wanted. Rachel listened carefully to my skincare concerns and which brands/products I wanted to try. The facial was so effective and Rachel's advice was so compelling that I bought three of the products she used (Dr Jart water drop, cicapair serum, & water fuse eye gel) and got samples for two masks. Two other friends got mini facials as well and we all had very positive experiences. Each of us also ended up buying products, so be aware that you'll likely walk out with at least a couple items you didn't plan on purchasing! read more

I've been going to this Sephora for 4 Years now. I am a VIB Rouge customer. I purchased some lashes before 9:06 and politely asked if the could be applied. Everyone was so kind except for the person at the door who was asked to apply them for me. The tall gentlemen with Huda lashes and curly hair even offered to watch the door for her. With 26 minutes left I was a bit appalled. I purchase something every time I come whether it's once a week or more. This makes me want to take my business elsewhere to Embarcadero store or maybe even to Mac and Ulta. I have been a customer of Sephora's for 12 years. I saved up my points over these years and was not aware that they would expire. I never received an email telling me I would lose my points if I didn't make a purchase. I contacted customer service to see if they could work with me this one time since I had no warning I was going to lose my points. They told me they could add points back to my account but needed a valid reason and my reason wasn't valid and they would not add any back for me. I would think their lack of communication would be a valid reason. I would have never let all my points expired if I knew there was a possibility of losing them. They have officially lost my business and I will now be going to Ulta instead. read more

I would like to believe that since this is a prime location, the standards for hiring at this branch is much higher than others. I have been here twice and although I didn't have someone helping me, Hayat was the one who was super sweet at the checkout that it made my experience pretty awesome. I was looking at the UD makeup setting spray and wasn't sure if I should get two mini bottles or get one full-sized, she recommended me getting the larger bottle because it's unrealistic for me to "touch up" on the go anyway with that stuff. I just had the worst Sephora experience of my life. Now don't get me wrong, I am a loyal Sephora customer so hear me out. Everyone looked unhappy to see me, no one smiled and they all treated me like I just wanted to use their demo's to put on makeup. I came in the store with my full face done already but I just wanted to test out new concealer and foundations. One employee grabbed a few out of my bag since I had too much and said some of these products are exactly like the ones I own, without giving me the opportunity to try it out for myself. They even gave me horrible brushes to use which turned out to be incredibly streaky and cakey for my face. I told them it felt cakey and they said I didn't use primer even though I did?? I don't understand? I also made sure to put all the demo's back in their original place since I know how rude and inconvenient it is for customers to leave products in random places, but I felt like a complete inconvenience in the store with all the negative energy. I know they have to deal with a lot of rude customers, but I felt completely attacked by minding my own business and trying out new products. This location is ass. Specifically my experience with the cash wrap coordinators and returns. Y'all need to level up on training or idk what's up. Last winter, I came to return two products. I insert my chip thinking I'd be refunded. She proceeds to hand me products wrapped in red tissue. I thought oh sick maybe some samples bc the products I recently purchased didn't work out. I mean that has happened to me at SJ's Valley Fair. I go home after a long day to find out I was charged for the two items a second time!! That's $$$. I quickly leave my house to take care of it bc if I waited until the following day idk. Talk about inconvenience. Luckily that evening I spoke with a different cashier and had the situation sorted out. I understand the holiday season gets hectic, but detail orientation goes a long way. Today, I went to return a foundation. They always ask for a reason. Listen it either didn't work out or the color doesn't match. This girl asks if I want to exchange it for something else. I politely reply oh I might browse around later. She's like oh let me just hold onto this until you get back. No, idk if you're still going to be behind that register when I get back. I need to be able to show the product and the receipt. Don't try to finesse me. Then she goes oh 41 will be go back on this gift card. I ask oh did the product fall out of the return time frame. Honestly would rather go to the Sephora in Westfield. Witnessed multiple rude sales associates here today, which sucks because this location usually has brands others don't. Was also hounded by one associate who asked me in about 15 second intervals if 'I was okay'. I work in sales myself and would never behave that way even if I did think someone might be stealing. Do I have to wear my rouge card on my neck or what? Was also huffed at by another associate when I said 'No thank you' to the offer of a shopping bag. I made an appointment for my WEDDING about 5 months ago. They just called to cancel my appointment 2 days before my appointment, I even went into the a sephora ( the embarcadero store) to ask about my appointment this past Monday, 3 days ago and not once was I given any sort of warning. Not only am I a beauty insider and did not receive the e mail warning that they were looking into not offering these services in San Francisco, but in San Francisco not only are all other services open at other Stores such as MAC, but had I been given a week's notice I could have easily found another solution. I am appalled and absolutely furious with this notice and cancelation so close to my wedding day. Mind you in the notes it says it is for my wedding so they were aware it wasn't just a normal Makeup appointment. Mac is still offering its services but due to the notice they are all booked up. I will never book another service here again nor would I suggest others. I will also cease buying at all sephora stores and as a beauty insider at a higher level of rewards, that is quite a lot of money I will no longer spending at this company. You should be ashamed of yourselves and really keep your customers more in the loop! Awful. This review is specifically regarding the woman who assisted me with the perfumes today. She was extremely rude.everything I asked to try was disparaged and tainted by her loud opinion . Fragrance is a very personal choice. I was disgusted by her behavior. When I attempted to leave the perfume area to get away from her, she detained me further by offering me more of her opinions on the perfumes she liked or didn't like, it was draining , and put a damper on what should have been an enjoyable experience . You know it's a bad sign when a homeless guy walks up to you, starts to ask for change, looks deep into your eyes and says, "umm. nevermind." Tonight, I looked THAT bad. I'm in banking and it's been a little crazy lately... sufficient explanation, yes? Anyway, after neglecting myself for three weeks straight, I couldn't very well show up at happy hour (which means 8 pm to me, BTW) looking haggard and beat-down. Especially since Lauren C. would be in the room and dressed-to-kill, as always. Sephora is the perfect place to gussie yourself up... FOR FREE! I eagerly grabbed makeup applicators and glided around the store from tester to tester. Beginning with foundation to even my skin tone and finishing with powder, blush, bronzer, mascara, all day lip plumping gloss, and three colors of eyeshadow. I would have applied more makeup, but I was going for au naturel. To top it off, I spritzed some $80 perfume on my pale, over-worked wrist. Sometimes I spend $100 here and sometimes I spend nothing. Tonight's 5 minute makeover cost me ZERO dollars, and left me feeling like a million bucks. I must have been looking hot, because when I hopped back on the MUNI, that same homeless gentleman asked me for a quarter. I was in such a good mood, I gave him a buck and told him to keep the change. If you don't come in with makeup on you're for sure going to either be ignored or get rude stares . I do not wear very much makeup at all, due to the fact that most of it irritates my skin so much that I make the before photos of the girls on the Proactive commercials look like supermodels. That being said, this would seem as though it would be a safe place for a girl like me to go. It. Is. Not. My visits consist of wandering aimlessly through the aisles because I do not actually need most of the products they are wanting to sell me followed by grabbing 10 samples of things I do not need and taking them to the station where they provide everything a makeup artist or clown would need to apply said samples. Apply, Dab, Rinse, Repeat. I go through this cycle more times than is healthy. By now my face is red and irritated and I have tried 1,000 samples and decided to buy 20 products that will most likely reach their expiration point in my drawer collecting dust, as well as forcing me onto a ramen diet for the next 30 days. I walk out looking like a walking tomato with a bag full of products, no money and looks from passerbys that say "Honey, you are a tomato, no amount of makeup is going to help that!". I get the feeling that the people here aren't as knowledgeable as they say because they all give me completely different advice when I ask what brands are good for sensitive skin and let me buy product that is clearly not meant for me. Then I hear this "ruckus" by the front door....I come over and see this person....I couldn't tell the gender but this person had some serious caked on make up...I mean it was thick....she/he was hanging on w/ dear life to the door, while a security guard was pulling her/him back into the store. She/he was screaming "Wait, thats my bag, I came in w/ that!!!!" We ask a employee what happened and she said that she/he tried to take some stuff. This Sephora is horrible. Besides not being able to find anyone to help me with products, and their dismissive attitude when I ask for samples at check-out (apparently this store just doesn't "do" samples- WTF why would i come in when I could just shop online?), I want to address a recent in-store experience I had. Came in at 11am on a Tuesday. I had forgotten to pack foundation after the gym sesh, so I thought I'd pop in and get my free mini makeover that my VIB membership promises I can drop in anytime to redeem. Despite there being signs that also said "drop ins welcome," I embarrassingly had to stand at the front of the store with an associate, until I marched over and sat down at an empty station. After 30 minutes of waiting, some girl came by to work on me, and didn't even introduce herself. I have no idea what her name was, what products she used, or what she even did because despite my request for "flawless foundation (their name not mine)," I did not feel fabulous not flawless. I was perplexed, the other girls around me were laughing and bonding with their associate, and they were even offered water and were consulted on products and how to use them. I really felt as if they wanted to just get rid of me. What's the point of loyalty to Sephora if this is how you get treated? The selection of men's fragrances is poor. Pretty much on par with Macy's. The skincare selection is rather extensive -- it occupies the entire back portion of the store. In both instances, however, you won't find anything here that you can't find elsewhere. They used to have urns containing coffee beans which served as olfactory palate cleansers. Sniff perfume #1. Sniff the beans. Sniff perfume #2. I'm a bit miffed that they removed them. Knowing SF, folks probably lifted the beans in order to brew them at home. Sephora deserves four stars for their excellent return policy. I don't even think there's a specified time frame. Just bring your goods -- used or not -- back with a receipt and they'll take it. In fact, a saleslady here was telling me that she's had people return stuff with less than half the product left in the container. The nerve! I leave at least half in MY returns. read more

I used to not be allowed in Sephora. It was a rule I imposed on myself. My most secret and intimate desire is to be locked in the Makeup Dept. of a Bloomingdale's, or a Saks overnight, so you can imagine that Sephora is the closest thing to a dream-like reality. Once I started working in the industry, well then, I was just doing research by going in, right. I started showing up at least twice a week for "field research" and "competitive shopping". I hate this location. I often wonder if they have cameras somewhere and are filming their horrendous store for a sitcom, because it really is so bad it's laughable. Pilot Episode: I was looking at the NARS eyeshadows, which are on the bottom shelf, so I was doing the squat thing. I notice neon pink glitter powder falling all over me and look up to see an employee dusting blush on someone right next to me. Every time she'd tap the blush brush to get rid of the excess blush it would fall in my hair, on my black leggings, on my black purse and once I looked up, on my face and in my eyes. I said "Hey!" and she looked down, literally rolled her eyes, and kept on doing her thing. Season 2 Opener: While in the back of the store deciding if it was time to replace the Clarisonic head on my brush, I had an employee tell me I had "insanely" dry skin and that I should buy whatever product followed by whatever other product. Haha, joke's on you terrible employee, I'm a licensed esthetician and my skin is absolutely not insanely dry (quite literally the exact opposite). I would never use your alcohol based cleansers anyway, and word to the wise, these girls have NO IDEA what they are talking about when it comes to skin care. For a San Francisco location, I expected their service to be better, but unfortunately my experience was not the best. I asked for a foundation match, and the worker assisting me did not bother wiping the foundation that was already on my face. I've been to other Sephoras and the workers ALWAYS asked me if I have makeup on my face and if they are able to remove a bit of it to match it clearly. The worker at this Sephora, however, simply put the foundation on my neck. Keep in mind, your face color often times can be different than your neck! When I doubted her color suggestion, she ensured me that the color she chose was correct and that I was wrong. I later went home that night to try it on again, and tada, the foundation was actually lighter than my face and the other color I was looking into was a the better shade for me. I'm giving this location two stars because the cashier who rang me up was super friendly and nice. read more

NEVER EVER GOING BACK HERE AGAIN! I have no clue what it is with the staff here but they are rude and definitely in need of some training in customer service. Working in the customer service field myself, I understand we have our "off" days, but seriously every single time I walk into this Sephora it is nothing but mayhem. Of course it is always jammed packed here and it takes forever to find someone to help you, so instead of waiting for someone to come to me I ventured off to find some help. I was curious of the MUF foundations and some of the shades didn't have numbers. Although I found a shade with a number that matched my complexion, I still wanted to test out the other shades too. So I find a team member and I told him my situation and he responded with "If you know what color you are,why do you need help?" EXCUSE me?!? I just laughed it off, and walked away calmly. Are you kidding me?! And there was ZERO sarcasm in his tone of voice too. Maybe it was his lack of knowledge in the product that he had to make such a rude remark to my question! I am a makeup WHORE. I'm not recovering either, though it's been at least 20 years since I've admitted the problem. It's not that I wear a lot of it, but ever since my Barbie-days, I can't stop getting greedy about makeup. I am the 3 year old little girl who walked into a party in our living room with red lipstick on my eyes, and blue eyeshadow on my lips because I was imitating my mom, but just got it backwards.I love owning makeup. Some girls like shoes, some girls like bags. Well actually, I love both too, but I particuarly love makeup, perfume, and those girly things. So when Sephora popped into the scene - - I went berserk. It was an instant love affair. This is where I get high. I just walk in, and I am flying high. I also walk out a whole lot lighter -- monetarily, that is. But you rush home, because you can't wait to open it all up and dab this on, smooth that on, try this color, attempt that shadow, try on a new perfume, etc. There have been weekend days where I just lose track of time playing with makeup and end up staying home all night. It's a girly girl's dream come true. They don't carry all of the namebrands, and I still do need to go to a department store for some of the stuff I use, but I've also started using a lot of new namebrands because of this store. In a year or so, Nordstrom or Neiman might be out of my vocabulary. One can hope. But I doubt it. I seriously doubt it. And just when you think your arms are falling off because of the baskets you filled with MORE things you don't need - - - you have to go stand in line and the overpriced sample sized version of everything starts to taunt you. "Buy me..... buy me..... buy me, biotch!!" I love it here. And I have TWO, yes - read, TWO - within walking distance from my house. Their own-brand lipstick is my favorite.... and I go regularly to buy it. One day, I walked in to buy it and they were (gasp) having a sale on it. This might make other girls happy but I was mortified as I knew, this lipstick is NEVER on sale. I grab the first person I see. "You're discontinuing this lipstick, huh?" She replies, "I believe so, it's never on sale, and I've been told we're getting a new line in." I turned blue. Then I came to my senses and ran to the lipsticks, and shoveled every single #18 I could find into my basket. Paid for it, ran to the other store, and repeated the same behavior. I'm set, at least for the next 7 or so years. Newer is not always better, but damned if corporations realize that. Service is a hit or miss at this store - - but I don't care. This is strictly about their customer service so A+ for their selection otherwise. My first Sephora experience was in another country where the Sephora was literally the size of a small department store so selection wise, this store isn't bad at all. I can't blame Sephora for their messy spots of spilled makeup and smudge prints all over the glass but what they lack in cleanliness, they should have made up in great customer service but unfortunately, they can't get a handle on that either. I bought a makeup brush from Sephora but after reading some reviews, I decided to get a makeup brush elsewhere and the ladies at the Prescriptives counter really hooked a girl up with a collection of their favorites from not just Prescriptives but all the makeup counters at Nordstrom. (Just a side note-LOVE NORDSTROM for their quality.) So I decide to return said makeup brush complete with original plastic case holder and receipt the very next day. If I had known it would be such an ordeal to return an item at Sephora, I would have never bothered. The lady at the checkout counter wouldn't accept it right away despite the fact it was never taken out of the case citing it didn't come with some sort of seal to show it wasn't tampered with. Are you effin' kidding me?! If I apply makeup to it, I'm sure it would show up. She called a supervisor over, held up the line for about 6 women behind me and put me under the microscope lens. I'm not coming back to a Sephora for anything anymore unless it's absolutely necessary. They can't handle a simple thing like a return with discretion and it's implorable. read more

This is the nearest Sephora to me and so I swing by here to pick up my facial essentials. The location makes this Sephora quite chaotic and so it feels like a zoo everytime I go there. Good thing I know what I want and don't require any assistance but, this 1* review is based on the rare times I did have questions and needed assistance. I had asked a salesman some questions regarding the difference between 2 different organic moisturizers. Here's the issues I had with his lack of help! 1) He didn't answer my questions but INSTEAD, led me to this product that was being PUSHED in store and ditched me, 2) The product was NOT what I was asking about nor was it what I was interested in which was a complete waste of my time, 3) the PUSHY salespeople for that product kept pushing their products on me despite me repeatedly telling them their moisturizer's were too rich for my skin type & 4) After multiple attempts at pushing their products on me and realizing I wasn't going to buy it, they became rude! I highly suggest some customer service skills training for the salespeople in this location. read more

Sephora is good for its large selection of cosmetics brands and thorough inventory of products within each brand. I'm also a huge fan of their extensive cosmetics accessory selection, particularly their quality yet affordable brushes and cosmetics cases. This location is very conveniently located and quite large, however I am not a fan and will only venture here to stock up on basics. I'm pretty naive when it comes to makeup so I've tried asking for recommendations here but the floor sales staff is always either rude, dismissive and/or misleading. I've been told to "just read the label" when inquiring about differences among products, had a sales person roll their eyes at me when I asked for a recommendation and, the last time, I specifically asked for a mascara that didn't clump or smudge and was directed to a designer brand that does nothing for me but clump and smudge throughout the entire wear! Maybe it's that the staff doesn't have good product knowledge, if any, and are just out for a better commission, but I'm pretty much over asking these people for advice. I'll keep coming here for my tried and true products, but will stick to department store brand counters if I'm looking for something new. read more

This review is not for the location said, but for the temporary location in the Westfield Shopping center. I am looking at there nail polish and I see a gold, and I pick it up to take it into better light. As soon as I take it away from it's display holder, the bottom falls away and drops to the floor, and not only spills but streaks my black suede boots. I tell the nearest personnel, which was the greeter and he alerts some. Another girl comes swiftly over to take a look. She sees the situation and starts to give me nail polish remover on cotton pads. It's clear I'll need more than that so she goes to get me paper towels. I do the best I can. This whole time no manager has been alerted. If the same thing has happened and a kid standing by mommy was a victim I feel that this situation would of been much different. There clothes would of been ruined. Well my boots ARE. I can never wear them again for interviews or specialist occasions. My patronage to Sephora is OVER! I believe every woman hears the sounds of angels singing in unison when she enters her favorite store (err, or maybe that's just me?). That's how I feel when into walk into Sephora...."Hello, I'm home!" So I dedicate my 200th review to one of my favorite stores :) Selection: Sephora carries all my favorite brands, with the exception of Mac. The Sephora store on Champs D' Elysees in Paris carries it (see my review of Sephora, Paris). I never understand why U.S. stores don't. But honestly, it's solely due to Sephora that I've weaned myself off of Mac and fallen in love with Urban Decay, Nars and Stila, among others.... Customer Service: My only complaint is that is can be difficult to get a hold of a customer service member to help me out because they're usually busy with other people. Hint: Sephora, hire more people! But once I do get a hold of someone, they are always extremely knowledgeable, will walk me over to where I can find the product I'm looking for. And they don't make me feel rushed. Product Availability: New or limited release products are very difficult to get if you just walk into the store without calling ahead first. I've found that, with the Naked Palette for instance, if you call ahead they will let you know if they have it in stock. And if they dont, they'll let you know it will be in stock and even offer to put one on hold for 24 hours. Woo hoo! Prices: If you shop here, you already know. All Sephora's charge the manufacturer's recommended price. And you get what you pay for. In my experience, there is no such thing as cheap, quality makeup. So just save yourself the hassle and come buy all your beauty products here. I also love the fact they their makeup artists will do your makeup for free if you purchase $50 in merchandise. When it comes to the lady of my heart, the love of my soul, the one to give my last sip of alcohol too, the one to give my ATM card too, and the one to provide for. Sephora is a requirement!!! The only store that carries Make Up Forever, which if you haven't heard is the best ish for you face since mineral water. Issey Miyake his & hers, plus every little brush a gorgeous girl could dream of. Excellent prices on make up cases that last a life time. Right now during the holidays they have cute and useful gift sets!! Did I mention they have great choice of all eyes on me type of colors for your nails. The service is excellent, they answer all my questions and always help my lady out. They have air brush kits that are amazing and not brake you bank status. Face lotions to have your skin radiant as ever. Nars, Chanel, Dior, and all the other ish to make your chick even more gorgeous than she already is. Five GLORIOUS GIRLIE Stars! I'm working long hours at the moment. I enjoy my position a great deal. I can't complain. Working for a design firm is a dream plus the people are great and the view is yes, U-MAZE-ING, located across the Embarcadero near the Bay Bridge. On the days (many lately) when I'm one of the first in and last out, even being surrounded by custom Eames Management Chairs won't soothe my stressed soul. Days like this I head to Sephora for some serious GURL retail therapy. Saks, Nieman's, and Walgreen's (yes Walgreen's) are wonderful but sometimes I just want to be surrounded by products. These long uber-stressful workdays cannot be distracted with gum, masking tape, or a YSL section. . .basically I want to walk into one place that has only face, body, and hair products. I want semi cheesy music playing that whispers in my ear buying face cream for $135 is TOTALLY practical. That happens at Sephora. Product picks that turn a stressful day into a happy day: -Fresh Brand Soda Shampoo and Pomegranate Conditioner -Kinerase Face Lotion with SPF 30 (Evens skin tone caused by sun exposure, diminishes fine lines.) -Biotherm Pure Bright Polishing Facial Cleanser (Exfoliates, evens skin tone, and moisturizes, smell's fantastic too.) -Clinique Naturally Glossy Mascara (I have finally found the ultimate mascara and its Clinique --- who knew? Yes it's better than Shu Uemura and half the price.) -Frederic Fekkai Glossing Cream for hair (I don't believe I'm saying this but, better than Kiehls Creme Silk Groom and half the price.) Don't get me wrong, the occasional pretension in the Nieman's products section makes me giggle, the friendly folks in the Saks Kiehls section are great, and I LOVE my Walgreen's for drugstore beauty section shopping binges. Some day's though, I want to walk in to a shop and talk about nothing but products. I've had a long day at work, show me a cream or lip-gloss and tell me how conditioning and soothing it will be.
