Let's play dress up!!! Go to Sephora and you can do it all day long. Just make sure you wipe the sample before AND after you use it. I don't want your cooties. But seriously there is everything a girly girl could dream of here. And if they don't have it they can direct you to the proper place (most likely MAC) or order it for you if it's something they carry. This location can get tossed around a bit... I came here shortly after Christmas and it looked like the place had just been raped. Samples smeared across each other, products out of place and out of stock, the employees looked terrified like they'd seen a monster. Well, some women at Christmas time are monsters. On a more recent trip the place was back to normal. I went there this week to find the Alice in Wonderland Book of Shadows by Urban Decay. They were sold out, but after chatting with the girl helping me she agreed to put one of the books coming in on hold for me. I got the call the next day and raced down to collect my prize! Well I didn't win it. It was $52, but I felt like I'd won the lottery. All in all, this place pretty much kicks ass. Tatiana is a super awesome team member!!!! I went to the Topanga location and the guy who I ended up being paired with was super dismissive and rude when I asked questions....So I left and went to the Sherman oaks location where Tatiana helped me....she took the time to answer all my questions and not once was she dismissive with my annoying questions! I recently moved to sherman oaks, so this is my new go to sephora! I've never had a problem with the staff, they are usually very friendly and willing to help! The store is clean and seems to always have the items I am looking for in stock. -1 star strictly because they don't carry estee lauder! Other than that, I have no complaints! read more

By far the worst service at the register and a manager that we have had. My wife works at another location, but we decided to do some shopping here since we were already shooting at this mall. She advised the cashier that she was an employee at another location, and then created interrogated her saying it is store policy and that all stores do it. After she provided her employee number, she was asked to show her ID, and then would not allow me, her husband, to pay for her makeup purchases. We both said, we were just at another location and didn't have to go through this. She asked to speak with a manager, and the manager came over with a greater attitude than the cashier. My wife proceeds to say, again I work also at Sephora, and I have never heard of this policy, and the manager then insults her saying well then they didn't train you all the way on store policy, but it's a company policy. I feel like most people I know who shop at Sephora, enjoy the perusing and sampling of all the different products that are on display. That's pretty much the general shopping experience. The employees there are usually so helpful and knowledgable. My beef with this particular store is that since it's in such close proximity to a high school, it's flooded with teenage girls who crowd out the place. I imagine that it's probably pretty fun for them (if Sephora was around when I was in high school, that's something I'd probably do...wow, I'm making myself sound old), but when you have something specific in mind and you can't get to the products you want because of the gaggle of teens, it deters me from shopping at this location unless it's during school hours. read more

Always great service at this location! They make personalized cologne samples and they are nice about it. Whenever I buy a new cologne they'll throw in a sample of something new and then i get hooked and have to come back for it. I thought it would be silly to sign up for a Beauty Insider card being a guy but they had gifts for men. I thought that was great that they cater to men for their rewards program. I'm a beauty/makeup spazz. I get excited even in the cosmetic aisle of Walgreens, for christ's sake. I love it all, makeup, nail polish, lotions and potions. You get the idea. And even though I have been shopping at Sephora for years and years I have stopped spending my money and time at THIS particular Sherman Oaks Sephora. I'd rather make the hike to the Topanga Mall Sephora than go to this one. Every single time I've gone in there (mind you, I used to work in the area so I went in there quite often) they have been inattentive and rude. I have gone in during the middle of the day during the week, with very few other customers in there, and been completely ignored. Then when I finally do get the attention of an employee, and ask for a certain item, they tell me they are out of stock. Both times this has happened, its been the same item and they've told me the same thing: "it'll be in tomorrow". So I go back the next and look at that, it's not there. Shocker. And they look at me like I'm BOTHERING them. Listen, I know retail can suck sometimes, but all I did was ask you if you had something in stock. Another time I asked a girl for some advice on what product I should get for under eye concealer and she looked at me and said "to cover your dry wrinkles?" ummm, I was 23 at the time...I know I may of had a few cocktails the night before, but you probably shouldn't go around to customers and point out the "dry wrinkles", especially since that wasn't my concern for the concealer in the first place. Love this location.. There was a girl from the skincare section and she was just great to work with and really took her time to help me and tried all these products on my acne prone skin. She was honest with me and told me all about the different foundations and which ones would work well with my skin. I was helped by another girl, she was mostly in the front section and she helped me out a little, she gave me her approval on a foundation that was matte which is not the best for dry skin and just to later find out from another associate that something else would work better for me. This Sephora location is a mess. Test makeup is often dirty or missing. Products are never in their correct spot. Items are mixed up and it will take you (or the staff) some time to find the exact item you're looking for. Very disorganized and it shows. I've never been to sloppier Sephora than this one. When in-stock items are empty on the display, they will have to be retrieved from the drawers below. Twice I was stopped from going into the drawers the last time I was there and I had to point out both times that they don't keep the displays stocked and no one had previously been available to help! (Once, I waited patiently for three staff members to stop chatting with each other before I got fed-up and decided to help myself.) The staff generally acts grouchy and looks that way too. I've rarely received friendly service at this store. On occasion when I'm not up for their attitude, I've walked a bit further to the nearby Macy's to buy my make-up there instead. I only come here when Sephora is offering in-store deals. Otherwise, I'd rather stay away from this location. read more

Just got home from Sephora...where I have been shopping SINCE IT OPENED, very irritated at how I was treated by "customer service". I bought a product that had several signs next to it saying that as part of a promotion, if I bought the product, I'd receive a few samples with it. I asked an employee how it worked, and she said they had the samples at the register. So I paid for my (several hundred dollars' worth) of items, then asked the unenthusiastic, unfriendly cashier what the story was with the samples that go with this item. She looked at me like I was a crazy sample-beggar, and told me they didn't have any samples. I said, I'm not just asking you for samples (which by the way you should be showering me with), I'm talking about the sign over there. It's a promotion. She stared at me like I had three heads. Finally I said, do you want me to get you the sign? She said yes (which was lazy because she could have easily done it, it was like four steps away). So I went and got one of the signs, brought it back to her, she examines it, and then goes to get a manager. This is where it gets really good: The manager said, "yeah, we are all out of those". I said, "well, you might want to think about taking the sign down". And she said...honest to God... "No, we aren't going to do that, because we USUALLY HAVE THEM". What is the actual? She is bringing down the IQ curve for the entire zip code. I cannot remember anyone ever saying something so stupid to me. She could have said so many things, such as, "we are so sorry (which they NEVER ONCE SAID), but can we offer you something else", etc. Nope. They were intent on trying to make me feel lame for questioning them about something that they claim to provide and couldn't. Look, I've worked in beauty. I get it. Sometimes people are unreasonable. I am not sure if all Sephora stores are so terrible or it is just this one (from my little experience at other locations I assume it is only this one that is SO bad). The associates in the skincare section are not friendly at all - they are hard to catch and will try to brush you off. They do not even smile! Aren't I in America, the country of Perfect Customer Service??? I thought I was... I guess I'm wrong. The Murad representative kept saying "enzyme this, enzyme that, a special enzyme", but upon being asked for the actual name of the mystical enzyme and its function, could not give me an answer, tried to dodge the question and kept repeating herself. Such a shame... But I guess Murad is only targeting the uneducated part of the population (which is strange because usually educated people are the ones with money), so they do not bother educating their employees. The products are scarce and many seem to have been opened and at least tried, if not used (I am NOT talking about "testers", I know the difference). Very poor selection. Out of 8 products I needed today I was only able to get one and a half. For the rest I was advised to go to Macy's)) I am dead serious)))) Only poor Jesus at the check-out was able to make me feel a little bit appreciated for spending over 70 dollars at this store. I was ready to spend twice if not thrice as much, but alas. Honestly, I only made a purchase because I had a 15%-off coupon. So much for a great shopping experience. I get lost in here. I loose track of all sense of time. There is just SO MUCH to look at. And try. Sample. Sniff. Dab. Powder. Blot. Anything you could imagine, they've probably got it. In multiple sizes. This place is a mecca for makeup addicts. The salespeople in this location are friendly and helpful, but not overly helpful. They'll direct you to what you're looking for, and leave you alone if you don't want any help. There's always lots of lip gloss and mascara wands, brushes, cotton balls and q-tips out to aid in your sampling of the many tasty treats for the face and body that are in aisle after aisle here. The lights are a little on the bright side for me. LOTS of fluorescents. I think that's why I get so zoned out in here. The lights hypnotize you. The perfume smell in the front of the store is pretty strong, so if that kind of thing bothers you, you might want to bring some tissues with you for this sort of excursion, but its worth all the sniffles to pour through the Stila, Chanel, Dior, Fresh and whatever else strikes your fancy. Sephora, why do you do this to me? I walk past you, try not to go in but you always lure me with promises of brightly colored cosmetics that I do not need. I walked into this Sephora with a purpose, I wanted to find a new fragrance since I easily get bored with my perfumes. When I walked in, I was greeted by the sales associate warmly and preceded to walk around, looking at the variety of fragrances. I was approached after about 2 minutes by another associate asking me if I needed anything. I explained I wanted a new fragrance and voila, she sent me the fragrance genius Scott to help me pick out something new. I explained what I like and what I wear ( I wear a mixture of two perfumes so I didn't narrow it down to an easy profile) and he instantly able to select a perfume for me that was perfect! He was very knowledgeable and very friendly and sweet. I walked some more around the store and was talking to the same associate who had asked me if I needed help, she was really sweet and knowledgeable as well. Horrible customer service. I was there looking to buy a few items and i left not taking anything at all. I'm someone who has very sensitive skin so not just any product will do for me so I always like to take a sample of it and try it prior to making a full bottle purchase of anything. I was looking for a sample of a serum. Had question and honestly just needed a recommendation. I had to walk around almost the entire store to find someone to help and there was no one. I had to wait until one of the girls at the register was done. I told her what I was looking for, my skin type and so on. She had no absolute interest in helping. No recommendation no tips just NOTHING. I asked for a sample of one I had read about online since she was no help at all and even that seemed to have bothered her. I was annoyed. I had a very positive experience here. I was picking up makeup for an important event, aka my wedding, and needed some guidance. I have sensitive/combination skin, so I'm really particular on brands. I love that I get to try out products before buying them. Can't really do that at a CVS. And the customer service was great. Mely did a fantastic job, sending me home with samples so I can be radiant on my special day. Checkout was easy and fast. I plan to go back to pick up some DermaDr products. As a person who doesn't regularly dabble in make-up, entering a store such as this can be quite intimidating, but I've received nothing but warmth while inside these walls. I want to give a specific shout out to AUDRA, who is fantastic! My friends forced me to ask her how to deal with eyeliner and blonde eyelashes, and rather than simply point me in the direction of the right product, she offered to show me exactly how to make the magic happen. She got me in a seat and did my eyes over completely, asking me the whole time if I felt comfortable or had any questions. It was a delight to be in her presence, and I didn't feel pressured to purchase the items she had used on me at all. This review is solely based off my experience with a certain employee named Brian. I walked in very anxious and running late to seeing my mother. Brian noticed how I was struggling to find a solution to the horrible burn mark I had on my forehead. I kept trying different color correctors and failing. Brian asked if I needed help And I got emotional. I needed it. Brian first told me that I shouldn't apologize for showing emotion, then instructed me to remove my makeup and came back with a couple different products. Used those products to successfully cover my burn better than I could ever imagine. My moms first words when she saw me was that I look so good, and that is all thanks to Brian. Brian if you get to read this, I just want to say thank you so much again. You're an angel, honestly, I don't know how else to say what you did meant so much to me. You're amazing and never change. I'm not going to chase down an associate that's helping someone else, but if your just standing there or walking around you should be asking if customers need help. Plus, is it just me?...every time I ask for something like a foundation they show the closest makeup they can find. I have never had a good experience at sephora but I decided to give it another shot. I walked in and there were some people there, but there was no line like I have seen in the past. I needed to get new foundation and they told me it would be a 5 minute wait...15-20 minutes later still no one came up to me. A manager, Amanda, was so fake to me when I told her I had been waiting, giving me attitude and so I apologized if I came off rude... I just did not have a lot of time and the time I was quoted was inaccurate. Even though the CUSTOMER is always right, I was the one apologizing to the manager who was the one giving me the attitude. She then got me a makeup artist and she put some foundation on my face. I liked it, but when I asked if she could do it all over my face to make it even she said "sorry we are too busy." Even though I waited for 15 minutes and she helped me for maybe 2, they were "too busy" with no line to put the foundation on my whole face. I am so infuriated... the lack of customer service skills were unacceptable. What made matters worse was as I walked out of there clearly upset, Amanda(the manager) said bye to me in an extremely fake manner without even asking if I was happy with my service. read more
