Thursday was my first time at Serafina's. On first thought I wasn't expecting much as it was in a shopping center. But...As soon as I walked in I was in awe of the decor and ambiance. The bartender, workers, The drinks and food were amazing and had me talking to everyone about it for days after. The best was the encounter with Leo the manager, his presence and Grace were everything! He was attentive and made my friend's birthday celebration oh so special. We went to Serafina Scarsdale expecting a relaxing lunch. Instead the maitre D was verbally abusive and threw us out because he couldn't find our reservation (which we had). As we left he used a racial slur that was offensive and ugly, espec to people in Scarsdale. We inadvertently recorded the exchange which we provided to Serafina corporate and were told that there's two sides to every story. We ended up at TuttaBella which was excellent. Absolutely terrible service. I dined here last night with friends for a birthday dinner. There were a total of 4 tables occupied in the dining room. Serafina has fine decor and atmosphere with a consistently vibrant dining scene. Staff is polite and helpful. A good addition to our local dining scene in Scarsdale, NY. However, I don't visit Serafina for a few reasons and what happened last night really takes the cake: in addition to out-of-whack prices (mainly for the appetizers) relative to quality of food, they have poor execution ability/a low-end kitchen. Pizza and salads are simply awful. Appetizers are priced liked entrees. Entrees are slow to come out, especially on a busy night and don't line-up with the price charged. Creativity is in short supply..............relative to the amount charged. But last night took my issue with Serafina to whole other level: i ordered a vegetarian entree( 2 listed on the menu) and received an appetizer-sized portion for $22 which Serafina called an entree! It was so small that i asked the bartender(we were sitting at the bar) if this was truly an entree as it seemed unusually small. She smiled and confirmed that it was. I proceeded to take a pic of a tiny saucer of olive oil we were given to provide the right perspective as to HOW small this entree was. Dinner was done in 5 bites and upon paying, i mentioned this issue again and was then told by the same bartender that there "could" have been some confusion at the kitchen because this eggplant parm entree i ordered used to be an appetizer but was now made an entree! The kitchen, according to bartender "might" have forgotten about this menu change and gave me an appetizer!!!!! Really? When I flagged my concern before eating, i was assured all was correct and upon paying, I was told otherwise? I didn't expect to go for dinner fully prepared to get into an argument about portion sizes and what's right/wrong but this error on Serafina's part confirms how sloppy this kitchen is and the inability of the staff to pick up on what's wrong. I'm fine paying for food/drinks but don't like being cheated. My recommendation? go for drinks. happy hour. Go elsewhere for dinner. read more

Very clean spacious place. Prices are through the roof even for these times . Cheapest wine was 15.00 a glass filled 1/4 the way. Very small menu. Pizzas range between $20-31.00. I'm not sure why a restaurant would be serving canned mushrooms on a on a soggy pizza at this price point along with bland carbonara pasta but I expected better quality. Our server was polite but not attentive to detail we asked for water refills a couple of times and weren't given any, asked for fresh ground pepper for our salads and in addition to Parmesan cheese which should have been offered when those items arrived to the table. I was there last night for dinner with my wife . I was sitting near a lovely table of three woman - which included an elderly lady. There apparently was a birthday. The service was poor last night , very understaffed. The gal there apparently was very upset and decided to speak to the manager on her way out. Whatever she told him, he was not very accommodating or pleasant. they left the restaurant he came charging outside and call her a "dick. I was appalled and couldn't believe how he spoke. EXCELLENT COMMUNICATION. My husband and I were trying to find a place we can sit outside and have light cocktails on an unusually nice day in March. We remembered Sarafina has a patio outside but when we arrived the host on duty, who may have been the manager (3:45 pm on Sunday, March 3, 2024) told us that they don't get their permit for outdoor service until April. He also informed us that he only has one waitress so there will be a long wait. We informed him that we were only going to have drinks. He added that the bartender was also slammed. We still decided to stay for a bit, but then we decided since we were not able to sit outside and there was going to be a wait for service we should try somewhere else. BUT WE WILL BE BACK because the communication was great, we didn't sit forever wondering what was going on. Thanks so much for being up front and honest, service like that is rare. read more

It really looked like it should have been served as a side dish not as the entree. It was very disappointing that the restaurant provided such a crazy small portion. Overall, the food was very average. Meatball appetizer tasted like they were made yesterday and microwaved to bring to table. Pastas were warm, not hot - again, re-affirming the microwave strategy of this chain Italian restaurant. Service was not great, but I will give them the break due to Covid. When I mentioned our experience to the manager on the way out, "sorry" was not in his vocabulary. He just said the chef was from their 61st and Madison Ave location and the "best chef". Decided to go here one night and it would be our last ever. Ordered the following: 1. Calamari - Very good! 2. Buratta - Good 3. Penna Bolognese - Terrible. Sauce was just terrible. Pasta - seemed super dry, especially edge pasta which seemed like it was left in bowl a while before serving. Likely the most disgusting bolognese I have ever tasted. 4. Chicken Parm - Good. Comes along with no pasta. Every place I have ever been to it comes with a side 5. Pistachio desert - Good Service - Server pouring water had the personality of a rock and inhospitable. - Main server, nice guy, waited a bit especially for the bill, lack of attention - Floor manager - he noticed I was looking for our waiter and immediately asked if I needed anything - well done by him for being attentive. I advised him I was waiting for my bill and he immediately acted and within a minute had the bill. I appreciate how quick he acted and the fact that he noticed I needed something as our waiter was hanging out with front desk chatting with colleagues. Overall, the atmosphere is nice and seems like a good place to come and have a drink and hang out. Would without any doubt absolutely avoid the Penne bolognese - to say it was disgusting and no where near quality bolognese is a major understatement. Close to being inedible. Here are the positives: Attractive and spacious. Outdoor tables seem nice. Reasonably attentive waitstaff. Unfortunately, there are many more negatives: Food quality and quantity is poor for the price. The bread for the table was bland and unremarkable, not worth eating. The entrees were disappointing...Hamburger on a cheap soft bun, meat was decent but toppings bland, fries were very ordinary. Chicken entree was very dry (pounded out paper thin) and with barely any arugula or tomato on it so it was almost a chore to eat it. The few tiny, diced tomatoes that were included seemed like they were diced the day before--not fresh. Red wine was fine but a pretty skimpy pour compared to lots of Italian restaurants in the area. The bill for our basic food was much higher than at other local Italian restaurants so for the quality and price, we see no reason to return and try anything else. read more

This was our second time and were hoping it would be better than the first but sadly it was much worse. The service was terrible...the appetizer came out relatively quickly and was good. But then we waited 1hour and 20 minutes for our three entrees with now explanation and little apologies. We also had to flag down our server to ask for more drinks after waiting an hour for the food. He was apologetic at the end for the long wait but never provided any explanation. Even if it were his mistake, we would've appreciated the honesty. I worked at multiple restaurants for years in NYC and things happen-but every server should be trained to always communicate with the customers. The food was fine but definitely not worth going back.
