This was an unplanned trip since my car was getting serviced nearby. I needed to kill some time and what do you know ? Serenity Nails and Spa came to the rescue! Location/ambiance: In the heart of Rancho Bernardo near I-15. There are other stores/eateries in the surrounding areas. They have a small parking lot or street parking. This nail salon is one of the older Serenity locations that I've been to. It's smaller and seemed more cramped compared to the Carmel Valley location. They have a separate section for spa pedicures and massage chairs. They also have flat screen televisions to keep you entertained while getting your nails done. One downside was the lack of ac. It was pretty warm in there so it's not the most comfortable temperature to relax and unwind in. They had a few fans running and the back door was open, but I was far from it. There are plenty of nail polish colors displayed on the wall to choose from as well as gel and acrylic colors. The equipment and stations are nicely organized. Customer service: There was hardly a wait nor was it busy so they were able to assist me with a gel manicure right away. Quick service! Love that! Since we are living in COVID times they did a wonderful job following COVID measures ! They had plexiglass between people and wore masks. Lily greeted me and was a sweetheart!! She was very communicative and pleasant to talk to. Sadly, it was not the best gel mani I ever had, but it was decent. I only paid $35 which is cheaper than what I usually pay at other nail salons. The other employees were quite friendly and welcoming. I think if you have a go-to mani/pedi-curist then this place would be part of my rotation. I heard Tim and Lisa are great so I might try them next time. I appreciate that they don't upsell or recommend you get other work done. Sometimes that can get annoying and when you decline they give an attitude. I didn't experience that here. Everyone was seriously very pleasant and nice. So glad this spontaneous visit was worthwhile! It's been 5 days and my gel mani is still looking good as new. Thanks Serenity ! I plan to be back if ever I'm in the neighborhood. read more

The ladies here are nice enough, but the customer service needs some work. I seemed like I was burden if anything! Also my gel nails are really uneven and the way she shaped my nails are inconsistent. The lady doing my nails also had long nails that were digging into my fingers while she was painting my nails. They also didn't paint up to my cuticle so my nails look like they're grown out. For how expensive this place is, I wouldn't say it's worth it. read more

I had the worst and very painful experience getting gel extensions for the first time. Mona was extremely rough with trimming my cuticles, without soaking them in warm water first or putting the softener, cut me on multiple fingers with the electric filer. Pushed really hard into my cuticles when measuring the extensions. I was visibly in pain and she didn't once apologize. I asked for round shape and she gave me all mix, round square.. some round one side and square on other..didn't file the inside part down well.. it looks ugly..and thick. I also got no lotion massage after my $50+ GelX manicure! She just gave me lotion to put on myself! The only reason I'm giving any star is because Mia did a good pedicure! She was gentle, sweet and polite. She did a cute design on my toes. The massage was good but would have liked it with more pressure. I used to go here a lot before.. but have noticed their service and staff attitude is deteriorating. They seem inconvenienced to do their jobs. This is not the same serenity nails that has been here for years. They are under new ownership. The front desk woman/ manager is extremely unorganized, she could not get anyone's name or service straight. Additionally it looks like a lot of the techs have changed. The shop itself has been re "organized" and looks less clean. Would recommend finding a new shop. read more

Warning: Carry cash because they charge the service amount to the card but to keep you embarrassed about what you are tipping, they ask tips in cash. If you don't have cash they ask you to withdraw from their little ATM, which charges a fee to almost every bank's card. I don't understand why the tip can't be charged on the card. The situation gets very uncomfortable. Service: Service is just okay. I went in an hour before closing and they rushed me like crazy. I mean the lady who did my manicure was in some real hurry while the one doing my pedicure was a little better. They pushed my hand cuticles so hard that I thought I might lose my finger. The manicure is all weirdly done and chipped off after just 3 days. I am sure there are many better nail spas in the area and I am not gonna go here the next time. read more

I used to go to this place when I was in high school for acrylics with polish back in the day. Since I'm home and in the area, I decided to come and get a regular polish manicure. The salon had two other people getting serviced with four service members there. Totally not busy at all. Upon requesting a regular manicure, I was showing the polish wall which they have a very wide variety of colors, which is great. Then when I was escorted to sit down, I was handed a gel polish menu instead. I selected a color by stating that if they had it in regular nail polish, I would like it, they questioned me more than once on why I don't like gel polish and I said it's because it makes my nails week and I changed my mind about colors really often so that's why I like regular polish. This seems to have changed the entire tone of my service: the woman who was servicing me, didn't provide me a name, nor had a name tag, so I can't leave a review on the single worker, she kept on, throwing my hands back at me between each layer of polish, which was really weird. Once she was done painting them, she didn't offer me to have any drying time and was ready to shoo me a way like she needed to attend to another client or just wanted to be available for someone else. I stated that I would like my nails to be dry before I left, as I was waving them in the air to dry by themselves. I was looking at the finished product seeing that there were a number of things wrong with them but since she had given me so much attitude, I didn't feel comfortable speaking up or letting her know that I wasn't extremely happy. She was scowling at me the entire time I was looking at my nails like I shouldn't have a problem with what I asked for. I still tipped her 15% for the service because as a professional, waxer, and as a fellow service-providing worker, I know that tips are important. It seems like they don't want to do any services that aren't worth their time, aka is worth a lot of money, which is really sad because I would like to enjoy getting a service done without being rushed out or pressured to do something else. When we walked in they sat us and 20 minutes later one gal finished the other customer so I asked her to start with my daughter. 10 minutes later I asked where's my gal, I've been here 30 minutes. she said she's on her way! But my reservation was 30 minutes ago! The gal showed up 20 minutes later! That's 50 minute. By then I refused to give them my business I was so upset! The ladies did a great job, my nails and toes look wonderful, they worked quickly while still paying attention to detail, even redoing a tiny mistake that I would not have worried about w/o even being asked. Also a really rude customer got up in the face of a sweet nail tech named Sophia, and I just have to say she and the other nail techs handled this ridiculous customer's unfounded complaints with such grace, I was very impressed. I loved my experience. Sofia did an awesome job, and was super personable, and very detail oriented--she actually measures the fingers side by side to make sure the nails match in length. She makes acrylics look like the natural nail. I had been to The Polished Beauty Bar, a mile away from this place not too far away, a couple weeks back, and was sooo disappointed because they had done an ugly job on my acrylics, expensive, plus poor service. So Serenity Nails, in contrast, did an amazing job shaping my nails, and listening to what I like. My acrylics look very natural. I will definitely be going back for more. Note: There seems to be rude bitchy girl-customers in there mean to the nail techs, so beware. Must be the Rancho Bernardo area that has these spoiled girls. I was in the area today for my husbands scalp micro pigmentation appointment & decided to get my nails done while I waited for him. I googled nails salons near me & this was the closest. Honestly I wasn't too convinced because of the reviews, but I decided to give them a chance! Oh bI am so glad I did! Tim did an AMAZING job with my manicure. I asked for my usual powder manicure & after many yearrs of getting it done at my go to salon down in Chula Vista I was impressed at how different he did it & how much better it looks. I feel like I've been getting it done wrong this whole time, I'll follow up with the lasting results! Anyways, I'll be back for sure! Tim is very easy going & attentive. I am not pleased with my experience at Serenity Nails and Spa. I've been here a few times and it's ok- not great, but I usually get in without an appointment so it's a go to on weekends when I decide it's nail time. This time though, might be my last experience here. 1) the finished product isn't great. If you see in the photos, the color is nice but the edges aren't very clean and the clear polish goes way beyond the nail. Also, my nails aren't cut straight across, they're all slightly slanted in the same direction. 2) the nail tech wasn't exactly friendly with how she would move my hands around to adjust. I had to sit completely straight or else I'd get told to straighten out. Wasn't very comfortable haha 3) there's one big tv on the wall directly perpendicular to where all the nail stations are meaning I couldn't even watch tv because I had to sit completely straight Probably not going to come back. Maybe I just got unlucky but I don't like spending $30 for this. read more

My family and I have been going to this salon for over ten years. We love it! They have a million colors to pick from.

It has been a while since I came here with my family due to Corona virus. This time, I took my mom with me after we called and made an appointment 2 days in advance. I must say I feel pretty safe coming here. It seems like they really follow all of the CDC guidelines. First, they checked our temperature, then we got to fill out a form asking about corona virus related questions. I also noticed they try to do their best to minimize the number of guests in the shop which I like. While I had only my pedicure done, my Mom had her manicure. Tim, the manicurist, took excellent care of my Mom. He checked on her frequently and was so funny to talk with. The ombré dipping powder that he did turned out so pretty. The picture itself couldn't show how pretty her nails look in real life . Even during the pandemic, this place did not let us down. I wish we live a bit closer so I can come here more frequently! read more

I enjoy coming here to see Lisa. She's nice, has great work ethic and does both nails and waxing. There has not been a time either me walking in or walking by that a person is there to greet you behind the counter. There are plenty of nail polish colors on the wall to choose from and also gel and acrylic colors. On both sides of the walls, there are TVS so you can watch TV when getting your nails done. The waxing room is a little small when you get in but everything is in its proper place and the space is used perfectly. The equipment is nicely organized and the wax is neatly displayed. They have different packages for pedicures/manicures and even do special deals when you get both a manicure and pedicure. One of the more noticeable features about this place is that they don't upswell you designs or stuff like that. The employees try to use your name if they get the chance. I am very disappointed in my experience here today. I went in there to get my acrylics removed and to do gel polish in place of it. The lady handed me one wheel of colors and I had to ask for more and she seemed very bothered by it. Then she proceeded to take off my acrylics with a cuticle cutter or sliding another acrylic tip between my real nail and my acrylic. IT HURT SO BAD. I kept telling her it hurt and she would just hold my hand tighter and tighter. I finally told her I didn't want me nails done I just wanted these off and I was going to leave. She kept grabbing my real nail with the cutters and proceeded to break my nails. I almost started crying but I kept my cool. I have provided pictures of my nails. I PAID $26 for this outcome. I have never paid more than 7-10$ for a removal. She didn't do anything special except some lotion at the end. I won't be back. It sucks cause my mom loves this place but I have never been in so much pain in my life. I called the salon to speak to a manager and the lady on the phone wanted me to drive back even though I have been long gone. I asked if I can send a picture and talk to the manager. She was not helpful and I am still waiting for a call from the manager. read more
