I have probably worked with almost every technician there (although I'm head over heels for Lorena for my lashes and Fannie for my nails) and I have never once, not one time, had a bad experience. And I'm a complainer!! I have high standards and Serenity Spa & Lash Decor more than meets them. There are many salons closer to home but I gladly make the trek for such exceptional service. Have gone here many times. They usually do a pretty good job, got stuck with some girl today who had NO idea what she was doing. I get the dip powder and she was completely doing it bad from the start. She put way to an many coats so it is superrr thick on my nails. She had to redo the last coat 5 times on two of my nails. No joke 5 times because she kept touching them before they had dried and messing them up. So in 4 times she had to file it down and reapply the top coat she filed my skin on my thumb until it bled. I've been their client since they've opened their location on 86st and even after moving to another location by myself was taking a ride to get the best mani/pedi. My heart still with them on 79, because they closed my beloved one. Doesn't matter where my Sophi will be working, I will be there, because I found the best service after 4 years of searching. I have to knock a star off my review. I went in for a quick manicure when the shop first opened. It took them forever to assign a manicurist to me. I had to ask the receptionist several times if perhaps now wasn't a good time. She insisted someone was coming. The manicure itself was fine but 3 hours later, one of my nails chipped. I went back to get it fixed which they did but they acted like it was my fault. Now a day later, all the nails look crumby. Definitely not a high quality job. This place is just awesome. I was looking for a salon and found this place. (Street parking available) I got a gel mani and pedi also my eyebrows done. Everyone was so nice. While my nails were getting dry the girl stood behind me and gave me a massage (I was in heaven). I live pretty far from this place but I'll take a drive down there anytime for the customer service. The lashes are done in a tiny, tiny room next to the actual salon. Second class citizen much? I decided to try this place for eyelashes today and I have to say I was really disappointed. I have gotten my lashes done several times and different locations and am always excited to see the lashes when they are done. There was no wow factor to these lashes. I laid in a bed for 90 minutes and there was no difference when I looked in mirror. The lady, who I was told was the owner, seemed very inexperienced at doing lashes. She struggled a few times to put the lashes on and my eyes how stuck together. I was also told by one lady the tax is $3.25 then I was told the tax is $4. Shady. Very disappointing! I'm hesitant to even leave a review because I don't want to share this gem with anyone! By far the BEST manicure I've ever received. I got a full set of tips with dip gel. The artist was thorough, took her time and even put up with me as I had to jump on a conference call mid manicure. This is my second time going to this salon. The first time I requested a basic manicure and pedicure. They ended up doing all this fancy paraffin wax and sea scrub extras which I didn't ask for. They upcharged me significantly more than what I asked for. When I expressed these concerns to the front, she said I received what I asked for. The second time, I walked in and they said no one was available- there was NOT A SINGLE client in the entire salon. This is a red flag without a doubt. I'm sitting here reading all of these Groupon reviews and honestly, I'm surprised that these reviews are real. I've been living a block away from Serenity Spa for over 2 years and originally started going to a place much closer to my apartment, but had the "WORST" experience there 2 times too many and have never returned. Who I am... I'm the girl with the gel manicure and pedicure that I maintain every 2 weeks all year long. I cannot paint my own nails, when I do.. it looks like a bad Jackson Pollock painting or that of a 3 year old with marks everywhere and etc. You get the point. I'm very particular about my nails, they grow fast and I'm in a profession that I work in the Fashion/Cosmetics Industry and require to look "maintained" and personally, it's that one thing that I do for myself. By this point, I've most likely had everyone in the spa work on my nails. I've had some good and not so good experiences, where my gel polish chipped off; however, I stopped by the next day and they completely fixed them for free.. no questions asked. They use high end products- Essie/OPI & with gel, I ONLY use CND Shellac, as OPI has ruined my nails & never been a good experience in gel for me. I cannot lie that I do have some favorite people (Kinji, York, Ara, Lisa, and more) that work here that I prefer over others, but I've had overall good experiences. Some people take longer to work on your nails vs. others, but if you are on a time constraint of 30 minutes, maybe you should wait until you have more time. They do a great job with my nails, feet, and the massages are awesome. (York rocks!) I used to go to a very expensive high end spa for my waxing *brazilian and eye brows, but tried their Tuesday Waxing Special, it's so much off, or on Groupon now, I get $20 for $40 of waxing which is a deal). My experience from some of the "high" end "Waxing ONLY" spa's in the city, I would end up with ingrown hair issues and some sales pitch on products, packages and ALWAYS bought something with pressure and walked out paying almost $200 and feeling like they not only took my hair, but stole my dignity with it. Now, I do my waxing here as well. They don't "double dip", they break up the sticks and you will see them tossing them each time.When getting a brazilian and showing someone all of my modesty it is uncomfortable enough, but what they also do (which no high end place has done for me) is after your wax, they go back with tweezers to get any ingrown hairs that could flare up or cause an issue. I've NEVER had an ingrown hair down there again with a wax, since coming here.:) I've gone to a lot of spa's locally as well, some very high end and have had less attention to detail and had my nails break, chip and peel the next day and nail polish peel off. With this being said, I've been coming to Serenity every other week for awhile and they know me, some know my name, others just smile and always talk to me. I've witnessed some people coming there for the first time be completely rude to the people working, I've witnessed some terrible behavior and never was it acceptable. I've seen a lot in my time sitting there. Most of the people that come here are regulars and live in the neighborhood, and after awhile, you start recognizing them as well. In my 2 years of coming here, I've sat next to a few celebrities, on more than on one occasion and still see them regularly getting their nail's done. The point is, if they're regular's... how is this place getting such low reviews? odd. Nail places are small.. We live in Manhattan, space is limited and they do tend to use the space and try to maximize it with fitting people into the area. Yes, they do have people working with fake nail's, tip's or whatever they're called, but I've only seen them on rare occasion. Maybe because I'm loyal to this place, I get great service, but seriously...they were great to me from the start and I am always nice. They also have a membership program, you pay $10 and they give you points for each dollar that spend to redeem for free services (spa pkgs, massage, mani/pedi/facials/wax & etc). To the people ranting about having to pay tax/tip on a groupon, where in the hell have you been? I'm an AVID Groupon purchaser as well, everything from massages to high end dinners and etc. It even says when you purchase that you know it doesn't cover tax/tip...we live in NYC... you should know everything has a tax on it, if you don't intend on tipping someone for a service, do your nails at home yourself. That is common knowledge in our society to tip on services and you are supposed to tip on the actual amount that you would've paid, not the amount that you paid for the groupon. Arrived for my full price,( non groupon or anything) type microdermabrasion. The "Aesthetician" was out on the side walk smoking a cigarette. She seemed genuinely shocked that she had an appointment (made a week in advance) and had to "go get a room ready". She immediately washed her hands, popped in a breath mint and seemed to realize how unprofessional/unsanitary this already appeared. Not once, not twice, but 3 TIMES during my treatment, a steady stream of employees banged on the door, interrupted, shouted through the door, etc. The final straw was when some nutcase Asian lady BARGED IN (mind you, I'm not fully clothed) and screamed "HOW MUCH LONGER???????" This is the place to go if you want to drop money to have someone rub oil on your entire body for 50 minutes. The bf and I went here after purchasing a 1 hour couples massage on Groupon and it was the least memorable massage I've ever had. The two ladies basically oiled us up for 50 minutes. My bf asked for more pressure but I'm guessing there isn't much strength in a 90 pound woman. We had a 5pm appointment but after we were done undressing it was around 5:15pm. So why is it after our "massage" was done and we dressed it was only 6pm?? To top it off, the guy at the counter pointed at the fine print on the very bottom of the Groupon that says "does not include tax or gratuity" and said there was a $5 fee. I've used Groupon many times and I've never been charged a "tax." Also he didn't punch anything in the cash register so how exactly did he calculate this tax? Overall i was not satisfied with my experience. pros- had no problem getting an appointment and didn't have to wait. cons- the nail lady her name was Amy, seemed very out of it. She did not utter a word to me the entire time. She kept saying to the lady next to her how she's almost done and wants to go home. Ok, I'm sorry I dont want to be paying money at your salon and have the aesthetician keep saying over and over again how she wants to go home.... PLENTY OF OTHER NEIGHBORHOOD CHOICES! I've been going here off and on for a dozen years--if you find an awesome manicurist to return to each time-- you'll be happy: (Where did you go, Sam?). BUT if that person leaves, (and they will- it's so poorly managed) you'll be unhappy because the person they stick you with will be angry you were someone else's regular customer and they'll be short staffed and haggard. They have alot of trouble keeping good employees so you're left with the rude and miserable ones. I wish other area salons would offer the $30 NexGen dip manicure! Also, SO WEIRD -- they refuse to turn on the bubbles in the foot soaking tubs! WHY? BUT they'll charge $35 for a less than basic pedicure. RIP OFF! read more

I bought a livingsocial coupon for a manicure, pedicure, eyebrow waxing and hour-long massage. I had a good experience here. I had a man do everything but the eyebrow waxing, and he took his time with the manicure and pedicure, unlike some sloppy jobs I've had elsewhere in the past. I haven't had much experience with eyebrow waxes, but this one definitely topped a previous one I got elsewhere at a cheaper salon, so I felt like this was worth it being a little pricier than some cheaper shops. The facilities were also clean and well-maintained. Cons--While I do agree with the post below that after tax and tip, the deal doesn't feel as great (coupon was $55, retail value was a little over $100 and I tipped $20 plus $5 for tax), it's still a good deal for NYC. I find the $5 for tax annoying and considered taking it out of the tip but, it IS explicitly noted on the coupon. The reason it may not be done at other places is b/c some spas include tax in the price of the service when they list it. All of the services at this salon were listed as not including tax, so it's fair. My main negative point is that it was a bit hard to make the appointment, as the English of the guy was pretty shaky, and (I assume it was the same guy today) it was hard to understand basically anything he said to me. I live in the UES & tried several salons for both eyelashes and nails. This place is definitely the top place in the area. The manager is very personable and provides custom beauty consultations to adjust to your needs and preferences. I also got the permanent eye brow and life is so much easier now after getting it done. I'm very pleased with how it looks and get many compliments. I get eyelash extensions every month or so and the lash quality is very high. Although the nail service is slightly more expensive it is worth the investment. read more

My trips to NYC always include desperately trying to schedule in time with as many friends as possible, but this trip was more stressful due to my scheduled surgery. Thankfully one of my friends thoughtfully suggested getting manicures the day before I went under and asked if I was fine checking out Serenity Spa NY since she has a frequent customer points card there. We met there around 10:30 am on a Monday morning, which is a great time if you're lucky enough to not be working. We quickly chose our OPI colors (both jewel tones, hers in purple that ended up matching her coat and mine in sapphire blue, yay Channukah!), then my friend quickly ducked into a back room for a *ahem* birthday wax while my manicure began. The women here are nice and professional, and quite speedy without being sloppy at all. Serenity Spa is similar to the majority of nail salons on the UES, both in service, decor and prices, but it's a solid choice if all you want is a quick manicure. What was really nice is that we were able to sit and let our nails dry for as long as we wanted without getting pushed aside since it was so early in the day - otherwise with only two nail drying stations you can very easily get rushed out the door and possibly ruin your nails. read more

STAY AWAY! Waste of money and terrible customer service. I was a full paying customer and got a cnd shellac manicure. Within 24 hours my left thumbnail had chipped. I called the salon to see if they could fix it and they told me they were too busy and could come in around 830 or 9 pm Saturday night. I had gotten my nails done for an event and that was not going to work so I walked over there anyway extremely irritated that the person on the phone told me if 9pm didn't work I would have to wait until the next day . After waiting 5+ minutes for someone to even greet me they finally found someone to fix the nail and offered to put an additional topcoat on each nail. Great, I was happy and relieved until a few days later (4 days after I had gotten my nails done) and two more chipped nails. I have gotten gel manicures done at other salons and they always last for two weeks. I'm pretty sure when I do my nails myself they last longer than a gel manicure from serenity. Best nail salon on the UES. My wife has been going here for years. She goes to Fannie and they've become great friends. She has lived on the UES for 10 years and has tried them all, always returns to Serenity. I have enjoyed pedicures here, and as a man, I think they do a great job and don't make me feel awkward about being there. Everything is very hygienic and new. After a disappointing experience involving being overcharged for services I didn't want (nor knew would be added costs), I returned to Serenity at the manager's invitation for a do-over. My experience the second time was much better - I was grateful for his effort to set things right, and very pleased with the results of the deep extraction facial. I love this place! I've been coming here since I moved to NY 9 months ago and won't go anywhere else in my neighborhood. No matter who does my nails, it's always a fantastic job. Pedicures are great, and I've had gel and regular manicures I'd recommend as well. Love their Zoya brand of polish too, that's less punishing on your nails and holds up longer. I have been meaning to review this place since I planned an event here last October. I needed a nail salon on the UES for my friend's bachelorette party, and of all the places researched this was by far the most accommodating and affordable. I was able to get a good group rate-$40 mani/pedi per person along with a $99 1-hr massage for the bride, on a Saturday afternoon which is their busiest time. They were also cool with us bringing decorations, food and drink at no charge. The manager and staff were very friendly and professional. I was nervous hosting the party at a salon I had never been to before, especially with a bride who is very picky about where she gets her manicures and massages, but I was able to come in for a tour of the salon before putting down a deposit. The only thing I found a bit awkward was that for the massage you have to exit the nail salon and walk on the street to their other store one or two doors down. Being on a time and budget crunch I decided to take the risk and go ahead with the reservation, and was very happy I did. Everyone had a great experience, especially the bride who now returns regularly for her mani/pedis and massages. I would definitely recommend this place for group parties. read more

I have been to Serenity Spa few times now and I have never been disappointed. I always get the Vinylux manicure but I would definitely get gel or any other service from these ladies. I even may come back for a massage because the end of the manicure should run is a great treat. The facility is very clean and prices are fair.
