I used to love going here for years. Sadly the last 3 experiences have not been great. We consistently get ignored by our waitress to even place an order. Then we also get ignored to get water refills (no ice in cups). People who arrive after us are asked if they are ready for the check before us. The bill is pulled up electronically, so you don't get to look at your bill ahead of paying. I hate the automated amounts for you to leave a tip while your waitress watches you (I only left 18% but wanted to leave less). Then when I requested the printout, which took forever, we found we were automatically charged a bogus $3.99 per each soda for a "souvenir cup" that nobody ordered or wanted...we aren't tourists. Food is good/average. Service/waiters need to improve/retrained. Juan is pushing items that we didn't ask or wanted. Then he started talking politics... Now the new thing at Sergio's is they charge an additional 3% when paying with CC...on top of the aspirational 18% tip. It's not what it used to be but then again what is? Waiters aren't the old dedicated staff that felt like your grumpy abuela was serving you. Now it's harried and hurried and you feel like you've been forgotten. They've expanded to have a courtyard and it fills up quickly but even with only a couple of tables my water, which I'd asked for out of genuine thirst never came until I went to get it myself 15 minutes later. The food isn't any special thing , plated like they hurried to slop it in my plate and almost cold. So many Cuban restos feel filthy, fast foody, and outdated even though they have all the new designs in place. This one, is no. Different. This Sergio's has a decent amount of parking! The space outside was gorgeous and offered enough shade to keep you cool during an 80 degree day. I ordered from their lunch menu and loved the quality and value. I got the Lechón Asado lunch which consists of roasted pork, boiled yuca, and moro. It probably was one of the best meals I had all week during my visit to Miami. I also ordered a watermelon juice which was extremely tasty. There are other great Cuban places in Miami but you can't go wrong with a visit here. read more

The food is always on spot here. My favorite dish is the vaca frita. I am giving five stars to this place because their manager went above and beyond. Their website hours of operations are wrong. So after driving 20 minutes to eat here and arriving at 10 pm; one hour before closing; you bet I was gonna let the manager know. He was apologetic and even offered me to make my food to go. I've been a long time fan of Sergio's. One of my favorite Cuban restaurants for its consistent quality and Cuban food staples. This was my first time at this location since the expansion. I personally appreciated the outdoor covered patio but wish the other section was being serviced as the wait was a little longer than I would have liked. Worked out for me since I was early for my business lunch but others after me were eager to get seated. The service was friendly and quick. Started with a bacalao croqueta with a cracker. It hit the spot until my delicious and beautiful arroz imperial came out. This shredded chicken dish on yellow rice with a layer of baked cheese on top with red peppers was divine. Great place for Cuban Food. The Pan con Bistec is absolutely delicious. I added swiss cheese to go with the steak, grilled onions, potato sticks, and tomatoes. Nice Cuban restaurant. Food is fairly good, especially when it comes to traditional Cuban dishes, but they also have a creative menu with several vegetarian options. My favorite in the vegetarian section is the stuffed peppers entrée. A couple of other big pluses for this place is their large outside dining deck with regular tables, high tops and large couches with tables for more casual dining or drinks and appetizers, and the other nice thing is they have a good size private parking lot which is a huge plus specially in this part of town. Very easy to get in and out. This is a very busy restaurant, but service is friendly and fast. And they also have a Cafeteria section on the side of the restaurant with a large window to order coffee, sandwiches and pastries and a few high top tables (first come first serve). They also have a couple of very large TV screens in 2 of their dining areas, and there is a bar section next to the inside dining room. We stopped in on a Sunday, late morning, looking for a light brunch since we had early dinner plans. We sat for several minutes before the server came to the table. She didn't speak English and seemed annoyed that my husband didn't speak Spanish. We asked what the soup of the day was and told her we wanted a bowl but needed a few minutes to review the menu for our entree. The menu was very limited. There was one item we wanted but it was under a section called "Members". I've never seen this, it didn't explain what it meant. So, we waited about 10 minutes for her to come back to ask her about this, never got the soup we had ordered. When she finally came back, she said they were out of the soup (she couldn't tell us sooner?). Then said that those menu items were for "Members Only" and it was for customers who paid a fee and came EVERYDAY! How can a customer come everyday??? We got up and left. A good Miami friend recommended this establishment so I decided to pick up a to-go order. We tried Pan con Bistec, Cuban, and Medianoche sandwiches, as well as the croquetas. Something definitely came out of a can or was rehydrated with some paint thinner tonight, because the black beans could strip the paint off a building. I sent them back, and would you believe they still charged me for it?! I know these are special times and everyone is doing their best. Service is haphazard and inconsistent. Be prepared to handle hot plates and have your table cleared while you're having your dessert. Staff needs training and better supervision. They're nice people, but just don't have their ducks in a row.... It's not all bad. The menu does have options for light and heavy diners, including skinny or healthy options. I was lucky to be invited to try Sergio's new plant-based menu and it was surprisingly good. Let's get one thing straight first. Sergio's has been serving delicious Cuban food for decades so I expect something hearty and meaty whenever I visit. Oh, how times have changed. The plant-based revolution begun and Sergio's has adapted and put their own twist to it. We started the Cuban Nachos (they were actually plantain chips) served with black bean hummus and guacamole. So fresh and delicious. Then followed by the Spinach and Potato Croquetas. Also freshly made, served piping hot. And finally, the star of the show arrived. The La Flaca Frita which was basically a veggie slider. Actually there were 2 sliders presented inside a gorgeous pink gift box. How creative and how delicious! (See my pics) The last entrée was the Chickpea Fricassee Sautéed with Spinach. Wow. So much flavor on every bite. I can't thank you enough for the warm hospitality of Sergio's staff and owner. This place needs a good cleaning. Tables are dirty. The smell is like bleach in old water and they are washing the tables with it. Like dirty clothes.
