Great food. Friendly staff. Mission margs are the best in town hands down. Also has a fun game room at this location for friends and family.

We've been to other locations and had a good experience. Tonight we went to this location for the first time. The game area is labeled "MTJ staff only", I am assuming because of covid, but it looked like they had a good variety of games. Our server was very helpful and even helped us order a drink that was shown on one of the monitors (but not listed in the menu?). It looks like this location has reduced food options as well. We ordered chips and salsa and were told that we had the mild and spicy tomatillo. The "mild" was very hot. We all like spicy, and this was solidly spicy. When we pointed it out to the server, she just said that "it all depends on who makes it in the morning". Not a great way to ensure consistent product or an experience. We were there about an hour before closing, and some of the other servers started cleaning up and even running the floor scrubber nearby while we were finishing our meal. Pretty disappointed with my experience at this location TBH. I really like mission taco, I used to work at the CWE location. I went last night and ordered the zero proof pina colada and it came out and did not taste anything like a pina colada which is something that's pretty easy to make a virgin version of. When a worker came out to bring our food I told them the drink wasn't good and be just kind of took it. There was no asking if I wanted anything else or it remade. Then our server came by to check on us and i and I told them my drink had been bad and again there was no offer to get me something else, or remake it or even an apology. They just kind of walked off and came back a few minutes later to tell us it had been removed from our check but again no " can I get you something else? " it was pretty bad service The food was pretty meh which was sad because I usually love mission taco. I had the seasonal taco and i felt like there was too much going on flavor wise ‍ I don't know if I'll be coming back to this location. read more

Great food. We loved it. A little pricey, but I like the atmosphere. You get the low rumble of voices from the crowd, which is big but not concert big. So... I have been going to this location since it opened a couple years before Covid. I have been eating at other MTJ's for well over a decade at this point. I remember when I would have to wait 45 minutes to get in. I remember when it was a line out the door at Delmar, Streets of St. Charles, Soulard, you name it. But those days seem to be gone, at least for the Kirkwood location. Unfortunately, I don't think I will be eating with MTJ anymore. The last few experiences have just been... mediocre.. at best. My go-to is the carne asada fries with a pair of carne asada tacos. I used to be exclusive to the tacos but Covid forced the company to get away from their happy hour special. Anyways, the food I got the other night was just, not good. The fries were not seasoned as they used to be, and they tasted stale. The carne asada on the fries was fine as well as the cheese and other toppings (guac, pico, crema). So, already not really great as that is my main entree, so to speak. Chips and salsa was fine. I always get the hot salsa and the green salsa provided was not hot and tasted like grass. Thankfully the server got the "new round" of hot out and that one was much better. But, the problem was the taco. Prices have gone up since Covid, $14 for the fries and $4.50(!!!!) for the single carne asada taco. The taco used to be loaded with meat, greens, guac sauce, and queso fresco. It was delectable and absolutely fantastic... but that was a used to. This taco I received had *maybe* one ounce of meat on it. They cube the carne asada and I had, if I was lucky, 3 small cubes on the taco. It had virtually no greens and was loaded with the sauce (which is fine, but not for the amount of meat and greens). I was able to eat the entirety in one half bite of the shell, and the rest of the shell laid empty. For $4.50 per taco, go elsewhere. Tacos Whey in Affton, hell, even Seoul Taco... MTJ lost their edge for that price, it was really unacceptable. Maybe I got unlucky, maybe they are cutting corners to make more money, but I haven't seen the Kirkwood location packed to the gills in a long time, so I am tending to think the latter. I know this is long winded, and I only keep a 3 stars because service was average and the atmosphere/ambiance is fine. I did not get a water refill in the near 30-45 minutes I was there, staff didn't seem overworked or understaffed so maybe I just got sat in the corner and forgot about, I don't know. Splitting the chips/salsa, my one taco, and my fries, with tip, was near $27. Not worth it anymore, and I used to drop about $20 with tip leading up to and right after Covid. Just... unfortunate. Maybe the other locations have it together but I think Kirkwood has lost its edge, sorry guys. read more

You can't go wrong with tacos and burritos here. Food and atmosphere is good. This particular location has a game room which is nice. It seems bigger than the soulard location. The salsa and queso are delicious. I wish they gave more queso dip. Drinks are always delicious! The tacos are good. The burrito was ok. Our waitress was on it! Great service. read more

Mission Taco Joint is a really fun place to eat! They have outdoor and indoor seating, the walls are decorated, and there is even a bar inside. I ordered corn fritters, the cubano, and I had their chips and salsa. They brought out two types of salsa- one spicy and mild. My sandwich was a little spicy, but overall good! The cuts of meat were thick and cooked nicely. As for the fritters, they were also good, especially when adding the lime to them. I definitely recommend this place and will be back! The servers are friendly, easy to talk to, and come to check in often. read more

Who loves tacos? Gotta hit up Mission Taco! Love what they've done with the place. Awesome decor, feels welcoming and open. There is an arcade to the right with lots of different games and plenty of space to spread out. The dining room is spacious as well. Many different items to choose from on the menu. I met a friend here after work and I must say this is now my favorite location. We sat right down and our waitress came right over. She was very attentive and kept coming back to check on us to see when we were ready to order. I decided to try the chicken flautas and they were so tasty. And I loved the presentation of the food! I also ordered guacamole to go with my chips and salsa. The atmosphere was nice and the restaurant was clean. Very spacious on the inside so I didn't feel like I was sitting on top of my neighbors. Mediocre margaritas had some flavor but seemed watery. Everyone's tacos were brought out together - all together - with no explanation of which taco was which leaving us guessing. I used to come here all the time. Not anymore... The food portions were way too small. And the food was really not to good. The food took so long to come out. The restaurant its self is cool on the in side. But there is always a ton of people and kids out of control running around. They were also out of fountain drinks. So I had to get a Coke in a bottle that was $4 dollars. I will not be returning. read more

My friends and I made plans to have dinner at Club Taco right next door to Mission Taco Joint, which seemed downright weird - two taco places right next door to each other. Unfortunately Club Taco had been closed since 2:00 that afternoon, because of a malfunctioning grill. I had never been to a MTJ before, but I had heard a lot of good things so I was anxious to try it. Often I find that the appetizers at restaurants are more appealing to me than the entrees, so it's not unusual for me to order two appetizers instead of an entree, which is what I did here. I also ordered a margarita, and some chips and salsa, even though I thought it was a little odd that I had to pay for chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant. They're complimentary at just about every other place. I got the beef empanadas and the Mexican street corn fritters. The empanadas were really good, which is the only reason this isn't a one star review. The corn fritters were just so-so. The salsa was delicious, but the chips were terrible, so I think I ate maybe three of them. My biggest gripe is the margaritas. When they first brought mine out, in a water glass, my first thought was that I had never seen a clear margarita before. When they set it down in front of me, I realized that there was a faint green tint. The reason it had looked clear at first is because they had packed the glass with as much ice as they could possibly fit, so that there was only room left for about 2 ounces of the subpar margarita. After a few sips, my glass was empty (except for the overly "generous" quantity of ice). I was a little embarrassed to have to order a second drink so quickly, so when I asked the waiter for another one, I told my friends that my first one had been almost entirely ice. The waiter said, "Well, the pour is gonna be the same." I should have heeded his warning and ordered a different drink - maybe a glass of wine. It's a lot harder to rip you off on wine, since it isn't served with ice. Unfortunately I didn't, because I like margaritas with my Mexican food, even if the quality is mediocre and the quantity almost non-existent. After the second one, I still hadn't had the equivalent of one margarita from any other restaurant. I just gave up and drank water for the rest of the meal. I understand that restaurants frequently make most of their money on the alcoholic beverages (and the chips and salsa at this place), but here they've taken it to a whole new level by charging you for the drink without actually bringing you much of anything. I guess it's kind of brilliant if you can get away with it, but I won't be back. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. read more

Delicious guacamole and mushroom quesadilla! Tacos are all very good. Corn cakes reminded me more of fried corn bread balls. The Cuban sandwich was spicy and filling. I edited my review on 5/22/21 to clarify some of my comments on my initial review. It pains me to write this review because I have been a Mission Taco Joint fan from the beginning. But it was their other locations in Soulard and the Delmar Loop that I had been to. Our first time visiting the Kirkwood location started strong. We arrived around 4:45 pm on a Friday and were able to sit outside. We ordered chips and salsa, queso (without chorizo) and guacamole. The queso was not good, too thick and pasty, and just not tasty. The guac was very bland and blah - it needed garlic, lime, salt, probably some combination of all of those to spice it up. Our girls enjoyed their quesadillas and fries which was certainly a positive. They loved the game room, and our server was very friendly. So kudos to Mission Taco for that. However, the accolades end there: my wife's grilled chicken taco was shredded (?) and way too spicy, and her Yucatecan pork taco was only so-so. I know spicy is subjective, but I love spicy food, and my wife doesn't, so she was caught off guard. Mysteriously, the street corn was nowhere near as good as it is at the other locations (not sure why - maybe needed more salt and cheese?). Finally, My entree was the three piggies burrito, and it just wasn't very good: too much rice, barely any queso, and the spicy chorizo overpowered the whole thing. Again, I love spicy food, but this burrito just did not hit the mark at all. I never give restaurants less than three stars, so this is an extremely rare bad review for me. I would have given Mission Taco in Kirkwood 2.5 stars if I could, but that's not an option. So I am rounding it down to 2 stars because I was just so disappointed given given our previous experience at the other Mission Tacos. Unfortunately, it is highly unlikely that we will be back at the Kirkwood location. read more

Menu is small and expensive for what you get. Churros were fried too long. Our poor server did his best, but had multiple large tables and then was sat multiple tables at the same time vs staggered, which makes timely service impossible. read more

My soul rejoiced when I heard Kirkwood was getting a Mission Taco Joint. The added bonus was this one had an arcade! So I was disappointed when this spot had to open up during a pandemic. But they've done their best making their experience as great as possible. Try a BLT or Hot Chicken taco, and wash it down with a jug of margaritas. I cannot wait to take the family to the arcade when the world gets back to normal, but in the meantime it's great to have this place in the neighborhood. read more

MANGO HABANERO SHRIMP TACOS..... One of the many reason my partner and I continue to come back. The environment of this restaurant is unmatched compared to most restaurant settings. When I come to Mission in Kirkwood, I know I will be met with positive energy, reasonable wait times, and incredible food. We haven't tried the arcade yet, but from what I've seen, it needs a bit of improvement, but at the end of the day this is a taco joint and not Dave and Busters, haha. All the best! read more

I just gave Mission Taco another chance. 5 tries and you're out. The Food came out less than 5 minutes after ordering. It was not hot. I sent it back. Within 5 minutes it came back out. Not hot. My sons tacos were not hot and the black beans were like a dry paste. Having worked in restaurants I know the food has all been pre-cooked and kept in the warmer. The worst part is I also know the steam table is not hot enough to pass a health inspector. So disappointed that this once great place is toast. read more

We love Mission Taco. Our visit was pleasant and our waiter was super cool. The food was not our favorite Mission Taco location but the atmosphere is definitely their best location for that. Was told our curbside meal would be ready at 7:55 PM. Arrived early and notified them via the text link. After calling the curbside pickup number on the sign two times asking for our order status, it finally was brought out to our car almost 35 minutes after the stated pickup time. Other folks arrived after our arrival time and all were brought their food sooner and were able to leave before us. This is simply unacceptable. We truly like Mission Taco but we'll not be coming back to this location again. This was the second time we were either forgotten or ignored. read more

This is probably my favorite place in St. Louis. I've been coming here for years and have never once had a bad experience. The staff is always so cool and friendly, the food comes out quick, and it's all SO GOOD. My go-to is the mango-hop-anero shrimp tacos and the chili crusted potato fries. If I could marry a meal, that would be it. Other good choices include the queso con chorizo, beef empanadas, street corn, and the fried Baja fish tacos. The drinks are always good but expect them to be strong. They will have my business now and forever. read more
