A large group of my friends went here to celebrate a birthday. The food was really good, but the service was less than awesome. I ordered the Crab Cake Sandwich, and it tasted great, but was not very filling. One of my buddies (who had been here before) ordered the Crab Cake Sandwich *and* pancakes...we all thought that he had ordered too much food, but at the end, he was the only one who was full. Service was slow. We all ordered bottomless drinks, but only got two refills. That part was pretty annoying, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt because we had eighteen people in our party. There is absolutely nothing remarkable or even memorable about this place. I came here for brunch with friends and we weren't wowed. I ordered a penne with arribbiata sauce. The portion was on the smaller side, and it barely had any heat to it. I had to add quite a lot of red pepper flakes to change the flavor profile to my liking (which makes me think their red pepper flakes are old and have lost their potency!). This certainly was not a dish I was happy to pay $16 for. If you're in a pinch and cannot find another place to eat in all of Dupont Circle, Sette will do, but please do not go out of your way for it. read more

I came here with the 6 year old I babysit for a late lunch one day because he LOVES this place so I was really excited as well. I don't know if it was because I had a kid or we weren't dressed nicely enough, I was in jeans and a plaid shirt, but we were given the absolute worst seating area. So I just got up with my little friend and moved. That really caught the servers off guard. We were given water and the classic italian bread with olive oil. They brought us extra plates but both our plates were dirty and had old food stains on them (gross!) that they brought us new ones. We ordered the arugula salad and the classic margherita pizza to split. We asked for the cheese on the side for the salad and they were more than happy to do that for us. The food was good but nothing that would make me want to come back for more. I went to use the bathroom and all the servers were having a meeting near the bathroom area, all huddled up in front and I couldn't see the bathroom signs. I asked them for directions to the bathroom and this one guy rolled his eyes and pointed to the door. I loved this place when it first opened in DuPont circle. it was open late night and the pizza was fantastic. it went downhill after awhile but now seems to have revived. there must have been some change of chefs over the years. the owners remain the same. the pizza is now very good. crust is not as thick as pizzeria paradiso but more solid than 2 amy's and very flavorful with great texture. ingredients are first rate. calamari is light and crisp. pasta dishes are very well executed with homemade pasta and great sauces. the cured meats and cheeses and olives are good but you can basically get same things yourself cheaper at balducci's or vace and eat at home. recently had 4 cheese pizza with pork sausage, very tasty. mixed seafood grill with salmon, shrimp, calamari, arugala, cherry tomatoes was excellent, bread they serve is basically pizza bread. good olive oil. free oil, grated parmiggiano reggiano, crushed red pepper for the asking. Salads are also excellent, light, flavorful, great fresh ingredients. lemonade not up to quality of pizzeria paradiso I am glad that Sette has improved back to a place I want to return to. read more

I came here with the girls for a fun brunch and fun we had! Sette Osteria was participating in Restaurant Week but I wanted brunch (which was not part of their RW menu). Two of the ladies decided to order from the RW menu. Food: I was torn--I saw three things that I wanted to get (Sette Brunch Tart, Italian Toast and Uovo Cotto) and I needed help deciding. Our server, Sladana suggested the Uovo Cotto. She said that many people order that dish and seem quite pleased. The Uovo Cotto comes with baked eggs, feta cheese, tomato sauce, bacon (of course) and wheat bread. My meal was so good. It was nice and saucy and there was a creaminess about it because the egg yolk was still soft. I do wish it was a little bigger and they only gave a slice of bread cut diagonal. I needed more bread to sop up that saucy goodness. I asked for more but Sladana gave us another bread basket because she said that they would charge extra for the toast. I still had room so I decided to indulge and get dessert and before I could even really look at the dessert menu, Sladana suggested Tiramisu. Well, I listened and got the Tiramisu. It was delicious. The service was good, no complaints there and the food was tasty--everyone enjoyed their meal. It was a nice way to spend a Sunday (especially since it turned into a monsoon). Came here with a colleague for happy hour, and their happy hour is great value for money! While the food was basic and familiar Italian-American style, it was certainly good. The sangria was a hit at $6 a glass. I wasn't expecting good service in a pandemic, but we came on a Friday night and received all our food promptly. I have been to this place a few times, always hoping for better. first of all, i am convinced it only has such great business because it has great outdoor seating. other than that-- from service to food-- everything is mediocre. The mussels are actually sandy and with a pittance of sauce (isnt that always the best part?). I had the canneloni today and it was actually worse than my grade school's manicotti. it made the olive garden look like fine dining. i am just going to repeat that: it makes the olive garden look like fine dining. To top it off, the waiter actually gave us the wrong check (after making us wait 15 minutes for it) and we literally had to seek him out to get the right check (another 10 min, i really have no clue where that man was). I popped in for happy hour, and was initially ignored by the guy behind the bar...who actually might not have been the bartender. I've been to both locations: 14th St. and Connecticut Ave. The location at Connecticut Ave. hosted my family of 15 for a graduation brunch. I was able to choose a custom menu and the quantity of each item. Our menu consisted of their fried calamari, French toast, pancakes, crab eggs Benedict, brunch tarte, and more. My family was more than satisfied from the food and mimosas. The service was wonderful, as they made sure guests were seated and served promptly all the while. Horrible service. I waited to be acknowledged by my waiter for at least 20 mins. When he finally approached my table he was extremely short and bland. He didn't give me a Speal nor did he introduce himself. My friend arrived shortly after he never greeted her. Coincidentally a mosquito landed in my Mimosa, I flagged down a busser she assured me my waiter would be right with me. When he finally came back to the table I pointed out the bug In my drink, he picked up my drink and walked off without even acknowledging my guest. At that point I was done. I walked out. I wish I had read the reviews prior to eating at this location. Our server was Eric and he was rude rude rude. The food was delicious except for the part that my boyfriend ordered a vegetarian calzone and when he told Eric this server had the audacity to argue with him! Outright tell him that he didn't order the calzone. After two minutes of going back and forth my Boyfriend just said forget it as he did not want to go through he trouble. He did send the manger over who was friendly and courteous. When the bill came we paid up and left him the Tip he deserved (10%). Erik the rude self entitled individual felt this was not sufficient enough and came over to the table and once again began to argue...it was outrageous that after his terrible service he felt he could push us to leave him more money. I don't feel he deserved the initial tip as it is. It is not mandatory to Tip. We will not recommend nor visit this location again purely based on dealings with this individual. If he wanted a fair tip he should have put forth the effort. I don't feel the customer is always right but to argue and demand more money is disgusting! My experience here was Great! I was cold and hungry and between meetings and I saw their sign "Happy Hour" while walking by, I thought - "perfect". An hour stop to fuel up briefly. It was perfect, Medhi was really nice and attentive, the caesar salad with generous square of shaved parm nice and light, the mussels not bad though not my favorite ever, the butternut squash and sage ravioli absolutely delicious, the olives were not for me, too salty but I was very happy with my overall experience. Especially for Happy Hour I was wondering at how they could offer such a great deal. It's cute, clean, pretty, specious, modern and I had pasta, salad, mussels and two glasses of wine plus great service for around $30. we were in town for a conference, and ate four different pizzas in the Dupont circle area. This was my favorite. I found the room great for lunch; it's got tall windows, a stylish pizza wood burning oven. and at 1:30, about half full. We ordered the napoletana, which had loads of anchovies: a real deal for 11 bucks, if you like capers and anchovies. the pizza isn't cracker thin, but perfectly cooked with a few bubbles on the edge, and plenty of cheese all around. It was cut into six pieces, but it's really more a four piece pizza. We also had a huge dish of italian meats: proscuitto, soppressato, coppa, mortadella, and interesting and unusual selection of olives. Our third dish was a pasta dish with sausage and broccoli rabe. All three were great. On top of this, we saw that some tables got a plate of flat bread and olive oil. That bread by itself was worthy! We finished off lunch with a shared piece of delicous tiramisu, which had a thin caramel sauce on top. We couldn't finish the whole thing, so we boxed up the meats, with a second order of flatbread, and ate it on the plane home. Just right! This place is conveniently located in the heart of Dupont circle, so it's an easy choice for Italian food. Their menu is extensive, with something for every palate - as long as you like Italian food. I appreciate the modern decor and atmosphere - anything too stuffy is overrated. The food is acceptable, but nothing earth shatteringly delicious. However, I think the food is fairly represented by the price. It's easy to have high prices, but this place keeps it moderate, and the food is in line with that price tag. Lots of pasta and appetizer choices, as well as entrees, salads and desserts; when paired with the liquor, it's a decent meal. For this opting for gluten free or veg, they have a number of options, and the servers are very helpful with those concerns. Not as many choices if your goal is gluten free and veg, but check the salads and the sides (lots of great veggies! asparagus, mushrooms, spinach!), and even feel free to ask for gluten free pasta. I wouldn't go back on my own, but if friends suggested meeting up here, I wouldn't mind. read more

This Italian restaurant is awesome! I ate lunch there on Sunday Sept 4th and the place was crowded. I ordered a pizza with mushrooms, ham, pepperoni and cheese. Wow!! It was delicious!! You know the food will be good when there are mainly Italians working and they speak broken English. You know you're in the right spot !! The pizza and a drink came to just over $20 dollars. Host seated us at the far back of the restaurant near the restrooms and when we asked if we could sit elsewhere, they said they have a table of 8 coming in even though more than half of the restaurant was empty and there were more than enough tables to accommodate 2 people literally anywhere else. Then our "server" didn't show up until about 5 min of being seated and didn't even introduce himself as our server or anything so I'm not even sure who our server was and asked if we'd like to order drinks. We had someone else approach us to see if we'd like to order any drinks (again, haven't introduced who she is or anything) and when we asked about the happy hour menu, she made a gesture and had an attitude like "do whatever you want, I don't want to talk to you guys anymore". Great location and beautiful ambiance. The service was wonderful and I never wanted for anything. The tiramisu was so good I forgot to get a picture of it. I had the cannelloni as a meal. The picture doesn't do it justice. There appears to be a lot of sauce, but I promise there is just a ton of pasta under there. The pasta was underwhelming though. Not much flavor. Quite disappointed by our time there. I made a reservation for a large party on Christmas--talked with them leading up to try to make sure I updated them whenever we had a change in our number, confirmed with them, Christmas Eve. My party showed up on Christmas and were told by a very rude host that we didn't have a reservation. We saw our name on their list, pointed to it and said "that's our party" and they said, "no, you don't have a reservation." Blatantly lying to our face even though we also had a confirmation number from OpenTable. I understand if you don't turn over tables in time--apologize and say there is going to be a wait. Don't lie to our faces that we didn't make a reservation. They ended up seating us half an hour late at multiple tables where the hospitality did not get better. Those who ordered steaks were never given steak knives and had to use butter knives. They would leave bottles of wine unopened on our table without opening or pouring them--just dropping them off and leaving. Two of our tables received their apps before another of our tables had even ordered. I understand it was a holiday but the overall experience was terrible and that's unfortunate because we were away from our families. They didn't even apologize or offer to comp us anything. Which you don't have to comp something, but apologizing and owning up to your own mistake is the bare minimum of what should be done. Will never be going there again. read more

For bottomless, Sette Osteria retains their good deal of $12 per person when restaurants all over dc raised their prices. They didn't try to cheat their guests either by diluting the champagne with too much orange juice. Even though some complain about their food, you can't deny that this is a great deal!!! I was feeling basic and ordered the eggs Benedict with fried potatoes. I know how some places are cutting expenses by making them with a eggs Benedict machine(trust me, those are not good) and I'm glad they didn't. Other than the B- presentation(it just looked a little bland), everything about it was great: the yolk was runny and the hollandaise was yummy. So for the potatoes, they brought a mini bottle of ketchup, which was super cute. But I forgot to snap a picture of it before they took it away:( Also, as a habit, I checked into the restaurant and was so surprised to receive a free tiramisu voucher. And of course, I had to use it right there and then even though it was brunch. Unlike the mimosas(or because I was getting a little drunk by then), the tiramisu is quite kid friendly, without much alcohol or none at all. The cake is airy, light, and not too sweet. It's a great dessert by itself and even better because it was free. So the only thing I didn't like was that the restaurant is really really loud, especially as brunch people are getting drunk. And it is definitely a place to bring along your kids because there were a ton of them all around us. If you don't like noisy environments or children, you might want to consider somewhere else. Dined at Sette Osteria last night. My girlfriend who is a transport from New Jersey has had a 6 year long search for an authentic pizzeria that serves "tri-state" area pizzas germane to the NY-NJ-CT region. Despite the so-so reviews that Sette has below we found it to be very good in terms of service and food. GF ordered Marghertia with arugula. I ordered the Regina with "proscuit'". I was a bit skeptical--I am a voracious meat eater and typically can't count on pizza to have a decent amount of toppings but the portion was very good. Great consistency to dough; most and thin with a fluffy yet crunchy crust. A bit on the pricey side but worth it for a once and a while pizza indulgence. Despite the negative comments in re. the service we were very pleased with it. Our server, Carlos was courteous, cordial and fun. read more

Earlier this year in January, I placed a take-away order on the website, paid for the food and received a text confirming the order and pick up time. When I arrived, the restaurant was closed due to bad weather. The closure was understandable. I have tried since then without success to get my money back from the restaurant. After 4 phone calls and two emails to the manager, I have not had a single response. in March, I went back with friends to eat and expected I would receive a credit against our meal of the amount I had paid for my January order. I explained the situation to the waiter who said he was aware of my situation, but that (and even described himself as the manager on duty), but said he was not in a position to apply a credit, and and that the only way would be for me to place the same order again. Despite increasing frustration with how they were dealing with this, I did try to do this this two days later and attempted to place the order over the phone along and explained what the manager had told me. I was informed no manager was in the restaurant and the person taking the order had no knowledge of my situation, insisted I pay or there would be no food, and eventually hung up on me. We'll not go back. It's been quite a long time since I have run into such a poor customer service. And since the restaurant is mediocre at best with so many other choices in town, we're going elsewhere. read more

Sette Osteria never disappoints! Every time I visit the food is consistently delicious. I love the pasta here and am not a huge pasta fan at restaurants. The entrees have rich flavor and fresh ingredients. FOOD AND DRINK: I've tried many of the pasta entrees and have yet to encounter one I don't like. The tiramisu is simply delicious and an excellent way to end the night. Both white and red sangrias are well done and slightly stronger than average. ATMOSPHERICS: The Dupont location is much more of an open floorplan with somewhat tightly packed tables and high ceilings so it can get noisy. The 14th street location feels more cozy and less crowded. read more

First, guaranteed seating and convenient location. They are spacious and have plenty of seating both inside and outside. When the weather is cool and breezy, I love to sit outside and enjoy some vitamin D. They are located right across from multiple coffee shops - so you can also make a quick stop for a coffee run right across the street. Toasted bread that they provide before your meal is so tasty. It is served hot and fresh. Sometimes, I get so full even before my main course because they are so delicious! Guaranteed fresh ingredients! Whenever I dined here, I could taste their freshness. Plus, they also have 1/2 sizes for their pastas so you can mix and match different items. If it's your first time dining here, try the seafood linguine or the scallops risotto. Looked like a typical downtown DC restaurant on a Saturday night, packed with multiple large parties. When we got our table, it was right in the middle of a walkway. After I had gotten bumped into by 5 people including a server, I decided to ask the hostess if we could move the table a little bit out of the way to which she unenthusiastically did. We then noticed the manager & a server talking & pointing at our table trying to figure out how to set up for their next large party. I could immediately tell that they were going to ask us to move our table back to it's poorly placed spot. I explained the situation to the manager which she understood my frustration. She looked around & noticed a table that was looking at the dessert menu & said as soon as she had an available table, she would switch us over. She apologized & offered some champagne for then inconvenience. My friend took her up on that offer, I wasn't drinking but told her some tea at the end of the meal would be nice. When our orders came to the table, they were nice portions, my friend had a pasta & I had the lobster bisque with a side salad. The base of the bisque was nice but there was no lobster. I asked the waiter why there wasn't any & he said the lobster was blended into the soup. I've never heard of that before, what a shame because with a few pieces of lobster & that soup would've been terrific. The side salad was too overdressed. It was saturated in the dressing to the point where it was unpleasant after a few bites. I saw other mouthwatering meals come out of kitchen so I was disappointed when my meal didn't live up to my expectations. The bread basket was good with olive oil and black pepper and sharing with four people was fine. The tart as a concept seemed good but it was small and had too much tomato. If there was more avocado or other ingredients inside the tart, that would be a better balance. They did not give enough fruit salad as the side, I was still hungry after my meal. We arrived and we had to go to a manager to ask where our server was after waiting for about 15-20 minutes. We tried calling people over to take our orders and we were ignored. Out of the 17 people who ordered 9 people sent their food back to the kitchen. One friend asked for medium steak and received it medium rare. The food was taken from her but she never got her food back. We finished our meals and she never received anything even though we asked for her plate many times. We sang happy birthday to our friend and then 10 minutes after we did that the two managers and staff were crowded around singing happy birthday to another table which we thought was a bit weird. A friend spoke to the manager about it because we came early to make sure that he would receive a happy birthday from the restaurant. She had a horrible attitude and said "well what do you want me to do sing happy birthday." While we were paying she was watching and hovering us making us uncomfortable. We spoke to another manager who said they didn't want to disturb other patrons (the restaurant had us and two other tables). We were confused by that statement because we sang happy birthday and no one seemed "disturbed" and they also sang happy birthday after us. While looking at receipts, two friends received a charge for a dessert they never ordered. When brought up to a staff member, they said that a correct receipt was in the back. Had no one noticed that they would have paid an extra amount for food they never received. Our waiter was great but the one manager was extremely rude and we felt like we were treated differently compared to other patrons in the restaurant. We won't be returning. read more

She explained they were supposed to change the website a LONG time ago because people keep complaining. She proceeded to walk 10 feet away and talk to other servers while bad-mouthing us. That was enough for me so we walked out to a lovely place across the street.
