I decided to write a review because I got no response from the manager in regards to my emails/phone calls. We had a terrible experience here with a rude waiter. We had the eggplant parmesan, which also made us sick afterwards. Would not recommend at all. Poor wait service and poor management. We went here for dinner after a long, all-day trip from California. It is very near the place we are staying in DC. The service was slow from the start. We did get water and menus, but after that we sat waiting for a server. I finally went into the bar to order drinks while we waited. A server saw me in the bar area and asked what I would like. I ordered a draft beer. Waitperson: "We're don't have that." We eventually ordered drinks at the table and dinner, a Caesar salad with anchovies, a Mista salad, and a salami pizza. A few minutes later a server showed up with the salads. Waitperson: "We're out of anchovies, is that OK?" Me "no, I'll skip it." Shortly thereafter, we were visited by someone I took to be a hostess asking us if everything was OK. We told her about the beer and the anchovies. Her response was we'll have anchovies tomorrow, as though that was a solution to the problem. Any restaurant that has items on the menu that the management cannot keep in stock and deliver to the customer as offered on the menu, is suffering from a serious deficiency in management ability. A friend and I just happened to walk in, in search of dessert after a conference at the Washington Hilton. Once we were seated we realized we were actually kind of hungry as well. We order a plate of the carbonara pasta and split it. It was so delicious!!! Saturday night, waitress was very nice, beer was cold, appetizers were small but tasty, we had MOZZARELLA ALLA CAPRESE and PROSCIUTTO E MOZZARELLA . Dinner very small servings and all 4 dishes looked the same. I will tell you about the lasagna and my side of meatballs first hand, pile of sauce with lasagna noodles and 4, 1 1/2oz meatballs that were perfect and exact! being in the meat industry for 30 years i know a frozen meatball when I taste one! I just left, and let me tell you.... This was some of the worst Italian food I've ever had and trust me... I've had a lot. First, their flatbread is absolutely underwhelming... something that could have come in a bag from the bread isle of your local store. I know it's just their complementary bread... but come on! I'd rather have nothing. The real kicker was the chicken parmesan... it was soggy and the cheese on top was poorly melted. When I told the gentleman that came over when he saw me handing the dish back to my server, his response was - "that's just our preparation here". My friends all agreed that it looked like chicken parmesan that would be served in a middle school cafeteria. I had an opportunity to try a second dish as they replaced my original dish with their rendition of penne vodka. It wasn't as bad as the chicken parmesan, but it was still not even average. There was barely any sauce or flavor to the dish besides the flavor of poorly cooked salmon. It also took an additional 20min for them to send it out. Dessert?... well after a horrible experience every step of the way, I wasn't about to order another thing. read more

I came to Sette Osteria for brunch with five of my girlfriends and everything was...okay. The food is just okay and the portions are underwhelming. I did appreciate that our waiter kept the mimosas flowingggg but other than that it was just an okay experience. The restaurant is large and they have a nice outdoor area. If you can, avoid the bathroom AT ALL COSTS (which is basically impossible when you're doing bottomless mimosas). That thing is a MESS. Nothing works, it's very dirty, there are buckets catching water from places where it should not be coming from, there was no soap.. I could go on. read more

Our Italian Restaurant! No matter where we stay in the city we find our way here. Best menu, wine list and service anyone could ask for. The entire menu is delightful with something for everyone. Tonight's sea bass special was out of this world! The atmosphere is cozy and romantic at night but still perfect for business during the day. The wood fire oven is the perfect backdrop. We ordered using Uber Eats and food was timely, very warm, and good sized portions. Three different pasta dishes were all sauced perfectly and very tasty. Pasta was cooked perfectly also. I ordered the house merlot with their meat charcuterie board. The charcuterie board paired with the warm flat bread (served complimentary) is insanely fantastic. All the flavors merged well. I ended with the Ravioli Della Nonna, to die for. Seriously, what a great meal. The only part was I wish the portions were larger- I was famished. After meeting a long wait at Kramerbooks and Circa, my former roomies and I made our way to Sette Osteria, as we were tired, cold, and hungry and realized we had never seen a wait at this place. While that's typically a bad sign, we didn't care. We wanted food. Now. As expected, we were immediately seated and our waiter promptly brought our round of drinks. This is where things got iffy. There was a large party in the front corner of the restaurant with four or five small children in tow. These children apparently have never experienced the evil eye that most mothers can so expertly give, much less a good spanking. Instead, these were probably those new wave kids who's parents only want to speak to them as adults, saying things like "you're being very disrespectful and Mommy takes offense to that" rather than "quit the screaming NOW or else." I can't confirm any of this, as this group spoke french and I speak it rather pitifully. Instead, I only heard the shrill shrieks and apparently "mignon" laughter. No, it was not mignon (cute) laughter. It was heinous. And loud. And piercing. I wouldn't really qualify it as laughter so much as yelling. Yelling loudly in a jovial way. For the entirety of our meal these rascals chose to run full force throughout the restaurant, galloping circles around the waitstaff, moving tables and chairs, kicking glass doors, and putting their grubby hands all over our stuff. It really was amazing. Despite the dagger looks that myself and the rest of the patrons were shooting their parents, apparently the French have a... umm... laidback parenting style. When the waiter asked me if I needed anything else, I couldn't help but comment: "a muzzle, perhaps?" He did his best to stifle his laughter, rolled his eyes towards the offending patrons, and went about his day. All I've got to say is that they better have left an incredible tip. Obviously, these rugrats were not the fault of Sette Osteria, and I've spent far too much space within this review talking about them. But really, they overtook my entire dining experience, and maybe that says something about the quality of the food. It's a resounding "meh:" pizza with a flaccid soggy crust, mostly overpriced, with only a great location and patio to bring folks in. I can't see myself ever returning, and I wouldn't recommend it for you. Beware the crazy Francophiles. read more

We both agreed. It was good, but not spectacular. What's carrying the rating is the service we had and overall ambiance. Rebekah was our server. She was attentive, informed about the menu, and very sweet. She offered up her dish favorites to us. The ambiance is somewhat casual with an open space concept where you can see around the entire restaurant and bar. I can imagine it can get pretty noisy on a busy night. It wasn't that busy when we came here around 9:20pm on Wednesday. I would have loved to sit on their patio. Too bad it wasn't open. I'd come back for drinks and happy hour in the future. Totally underwhelming. Swung in here with my sister about 2pm one hot summer Friday. The outdoor area is nice, but we wouldn't be taking advantage of it that day. Instead, we sat inside at a table placed incredibly close to a three top (in a practically empty restaurant). My sister has no shame and just grabbed the table and dragged it three feet away. The water and menu's came out fast enough, but our waitress didn't come back to take our orders for quite a long time. I'll let this slide and chalk this up to the fact that my sis likes to read and re-read the menu numerous times, always wondering if they'll substitute steak for the arugula, or replace potatoes with some bananas foster... but I digress. The food came out quickly enough, but the portion size was insulting. I actually thought to myself "I better eat this really, really slow." I had grabbed the rigatoni with salmon and shrimp, and while I don't expect an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet, I'd at least expect some extra rigatoni to fill out the dish and make it look less diminutive and pathetic in it's ginormous bowl. It was decent. The salmon was moist, and the shrimp (all three of them) were seasoned alright, but I finished up my meal and rolled right on over to Baja Fresh for some tacos. It's quicker, cheaper, and a lot more filling. read more

I got the Marguerite Pizza here - traditional italian pizza, right? This place is italian, so I figured where else would I get good Italian pizza? My answer is Costco (their thin crust marguerite pizza is good stuff!). The pizza at Sette had a whole lot of buffalo mozzarella cheese and dough and not much else. No fresh tomatoes. No fresh basil (they cooked it). On top of that, the cheese didn't taste very fresh. I guess I should give them credit for at least supplying enough non-dough ingredients to keep the proportion of crust low. So, I would give them 2 stars instead of one - had they given good service. I did come here rather late on a Saturday evening - around 10pm, which could explain the bad service. My water wasn't refilled and we completely lost our waiter for about 20 minutes. read more

I just wanted to share a bit about our experience at Sette First, we walked and stood there. And waited, and waited....and waited. A gentleman in a suit popped over and said the hostess would be by soon (she'd already been up once and ignored us). The second time she came up, she looked at us very expectantly and finally, my husband asked "can we eat here???" Now, maybe I've got this wrong (I put in my fair share of employment in restaurants, some far more upscale than Sette), but I was under the impression the hostess was supposed to greet ME. She said we could and we asked if we could sit outside. She said that was fine than walked away and went to what looked like the open kitchen area where she sat down and started chatting other employees. We stood there for about 5 more minutes (one of the servers came up and talked with us for a minute while she was putting away menus...she was very friendly! ). The gentleman with the suit came back up. We once again expressed our desire to eat at Sette, even though we were starting to have doubts at this point, as well as ask for an outside table. He said no problem, one was open and they would have it cleared for us soon and to take a seat in the waiting area. I'll digress for just a moment here to say while we were waiting, I visited the restroom. Not impressed. Barely clean and out of toilet paper. Back to the waiting area, where we sat for about 10 minutes. Mind you, at this point, we'd been in your establishment for about 25 minutes. The gentleman in the suit came up and informed us that the owner of the restaurant was dining there that evening and had some extra people in his party and decided to take the table that was promised to us. The gentleman in the suit was very apologetic about it, and perhaps I was a tad harsh on him (it really wasn't his fault), but to be treated in such a manner was disgraceful. It was painfully obvious that customer service is NOT a strong point here. I'd love to review the food, but at this point, we'd had it and walked out. Washington DC has WAY too many excellent restaurants for us to waste our time at this one. read more

2.5 stars I like Sette Bello, but am not a big fan of Sette Osteria. People seem to love this place and are willing to wait outside for an hour so they can sit on the sidewalk. Not sure what all the fuss is about sitting on the sidewalk -- and it certainly doesn't make up for the things that are less than spectacular in terms of food and service. $9 bucks for a mista salad that is both small and mediocre. You can do a lot better at Cosi across the street. I didn't feel like having wine, so I just had a beer -- nothing on tap -- it arrived in bottle -- I didn't ask for a glass and I wasn't asked either -- it just arrived in bottle.....at a place that charges $9 bucks for a little salad. Staff stopped in to take our order -- never returned to check if things were ok -- only came back with check when we motioned to her for the bill. The pizzas are decent -- otherwise really not much to get excited about unless the sidewalk excites you. Don't get me wrong -- a nice meal outside is a lot of fun, but I think there are a lot of places you can do better in DC for atmosphere and food. The roof at Local 16 is sooo much better -- and that place is far from perfect -- or go up the street to the Bistro for better food and ambience. Pizzeria Paradiso certainly has better pizza....and yet Sette is almost always busy...... read more

Then again, its hard to screw that up. If I could give it one and a half stars, I would. The lasagna was the worst I've ever had. The sauce was flavorless ooze. Instead of using ground beef, it was small hunks of steak randomly inserted to the lasagna. Very unpleasant textural addition. The wine list is a disaster. Markups verging on 3x retail (2x is fair, 3x isn't.) The wines, aside from a bottle of Gaja I doubt they really have, are very poorly chosen. read more

As someone who lives in Dupont Circle, Sette Osteria is one of those spots that consistently delivers good food, wine, and atmosphere. It's the place you go to when you just want to have a chill night out, relax with some good food and drink, and people watch. It's an osteria--which means it's not going to be as fancy as a trattoria or restaurant--but will still meet all your needs if you're looking for a good meal. The pizza at Sette is very good. My favorite is the Regina (made with buffalo mozzarella). Delicious. Sette also has incredible salads. They're always very fresh and substantial. My favorite: the arugala and fennel salad with parmesan shavings. Sette is relatively inexpensive considering the location and quality of food. An individual pizza will run you about $13-15 and salads are in the $10 range. Although their dining room and outdoor seating area are both large, there is usually a wait on Friday and Saturday evenings. Thankfully, the bartenders at Sette mix some wonderful original cocktails, which can serve as a distraction until your table is ready! read more

This place has a sign out front that says FREE VALET PARKING. They also mention it on their website. So my mom and I figured, when we pulled up one night last week, that eventually a valet would, you know, come and PARK OUR CAR. Because the sign says that's what going to happen. It did not happen. We sat there for 10 minutes waiting, then I went inside to ask about the parking situation. Two different people then helpfully informed me that the sign doesn't mean "valet parking" like ACTUAL valet parking -- it means they will validate your ticket so you can park in a garage next door for free. No apology, no explanation for why they're flagrantly lying on their sign and on their website. Incredibly unprofessional and dishonest. We left, and I won't be going here again. read more

A friend of mine and I were pretty much just strolling around Dupont and wanted to go to a place where we had never been before and we ended up at Sette. I think if you are looking for a place to people watch and have light lunch, I would recommend this place. I had the lunch special that included a prosicciuto and buffalo mozzarella sandwich with fries. It was good, but not amazing. Basically, a perfect meal for a light lunch. My roommate had the veggie pizza and added sausage to it (yeah I know) and she loved it! I think this is a good place to go for a nice lunch or if you are looking for something besides Cosi for lunch. P.S. Our table was wobbly and the hostess and waitress took a split cork and stuck it under the leg of the table to fix it (I didn't even ask them to fix it) and worked like clockwork! I was actually really impressed with that because most places would just ignore the problem and you are just left sitting there trying not to lean on the table because it would wobble back and forth. Small things like fixing wobbly tables can much such a difference! read more

The service issues have gotten better, but the food at Sette Osteria has declined with each visit, so I'm not going to change the star rating. I came by for a glass of wine and an appetizer with my mother about a year ago, and the calamari we ordered was so tough and chewy that we ended up sending it back (which I never, ever do.) Bartender was nice about it though. I came by again with S.O.'s family in the past couple of weeks and our meals were barely edible. I ordered a pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms, and anchovies, and it was absolutely awful. I am not a picky eater and I love salty, fishy fish - we often make pizza at home and add anchovies out of a can, nothing fancy. These anchovies, however, were just disgusting... terribly salty and off-smelling. If the rest of the pizza had been good, I would have just picked them off and shrugged it off - but the crust was soggy and paper thin, the cheese was bland, and the sauce was nonexistent. I wish I could say the other meals made up for it, but S.O.'s chicken parm was dry and tasteless. I came here for brunch on a Sunday with a Capitol Deal. When I entered the hostess was cold and not welcoming at all. . . . she didn't properly great me. I was a hostess before and I noted that she didn't make my party feel welcomed at all. She didn't even look me in the face to say . . . "Welcome" or "Hi" Despite my initial negative experience with the hostess, my dining service was good. The waiter was extremely attentive, made sure everything was fine, and the service was quick and efficient. As for the food, I order the crab cakes & eggs benedict. The crab cakes were o.k, but I have experienced better crab cakes at Ben's Next Door. What made the meal exceptional were the bottomless bellinis (you can get mimosas or bloody marys). The waiter was very attentive to filling up our champagne glasses with sweet goodness. Also, the mini-muffins that were placed on the table before we ordered food were tasty and served as a great appetizer to our brunch. The waiter gave us our space, but still provided exceptional service; yet, he was strictly business . . . not very chatty and smiley and that's fine . . he was working hard!
