My son and I have made dinner at Sette Osteria a Christmas Eve tradition and we really love it. Dinner tonight was fabulous. Our waiter was terrific - friendly, good menu advice and appropriately attentive. I had the liguine della paranza and it was delicious. Loaded with seafood, the pasta was done perfectly and all served with a lovely tomato sauce. Yum! My son tried the fettucine alla bogognese and ate every bite. Food was good - salads were fresh and my salmon was cooked well. bread was good... after we asked for fresh bread. Server was a 3- one of us asked for a drink with 2 ice cubes and it can be back full of ice, and another person ordered a glass of water without ice and there was ice in it as well. The part that was strange was that we were charged for ice when a member of my party ordered his drink on the rocks. I have never been to an establishment that charged for ice. In DC we're blessed we have hundreds of options when deciding where to go for a bottomless mimosa experience. However, despite being advertised, this is not the place for bottomless or large groups. I recently visited with 8 friends. We believed we hit the jackpot as it was a last minute decision and we found plenty of time options for a reservation on Open Table. This should have been a warning as what we experienced stopped miles short of "winning the lottery". Not quite half-way through our meal, we stopped receiving service and after a 20-minute lull of no refills, we asked another waitress. It was 20 more minutes before our waitress returned to let us know our 2-hour limit was almost up and this would be our last round. I kindly asked they provide one more due to the lack of service and she agreed. We finished our round (5 total of the small champagne flutes half filled) and the waitress brought our checks. I asked for the final round we discussed while we were waiting on our cards, but she informed us that her manager instructed her not to serve us any further. We thought no problem, we can politely ask the manager. However, when she finally came to speak to us she informed us that they have a policy to not over serve. We were confused as we had only 5 (incredibly watered down) mimosas and quite frankly we were immensely offended. You see, a table across the restaurant broke multiple glasses and continued to be served while we were well behaved and catching up with friends. It turned out the manager's criteria for judging is an increase in volume. Here's where I remind everyone we had 9 people dining. We were also seated directly beside the door/hostess stand so everytime it opened or a group came in we naturally grew a little louder. We reminded her of this but the manager insisted that after 4 mimosas your ABC changes and is when you should be "monitored". After pointing out that 4 mimosas are not bottomless and advertising it as such is misleading, she argued that they had the right to make the decision. While this was a calm conversational exchange we left feeling offended, mislead, and honestly...thirsty. We've had positive experiences here before, but after realizing how they are now being managed I can assure you we won't be back. If I want to be judged for having a mimosa or 6 at BOTTOMLESS brunch I'll call my grandmother. If you're looking for an enjoyable and welcoming brunch experience I recommend choosing anywhere else but here. read more

At first glance, this place looks pretty trendy and nice looking. The menu looks decent and pretty standard as well, like what you would typically find in other Italian restaurants. My sister and I randomly decide to try this place out without researching. We chose to sit outside since the night was lovely.The waitress greeted us directly and was very pleasant. We were immediately served water and we placed an order for a bottle of wine that we got pretty fast too. They kept it in an ice bucket for us so that it stayed chilled. We chose to skip out on appetizers and went straight to the main course. I ordered the Linguine Della Paranza which includes clams, mussels, shrimp, calamari, and fresh tomato sauce. My sister ordered a salad, Insalata di Indivia Belga, which had belgium endives, arugula, walnuts, pear, and Gorgonzola dolci. In addition we were served mini breads that were quite nice. I can't say I loved my meal. The sauce tasted like it came from a Chef Boyardee can. I asked for some red pepper flakes and Parmesan cheese to try to help it out. However, the seafood inside of it was actually pretty good and not too overly cooked so I was pretty pleased with that. Half of my dish was cool, and the other half lukewarm. A small section underneath was piping hot. I think it sat for a bit before they served it to us. My sister seemed to enjoy her salad, as she didn't have a negative thing to say about it and it came out looking great. Eating outside probably wasn't the best idea. This place sits on one of the main roads and having a conversation with my sister was actually pretty difficult because of all of the emergency vehicles going up and down the road, people blasting their horns, and the general overwhelming noises of people revving their engines. It is not the restaurants fault of course, but if you're looking for an intimate dinner outside, don't look for it there. The inside looked quite nice so it would be better in there. I think going there for brunch would be amazing though. The brunch specials looked tempting so I hope to go back to check it out for that, and hopefully rate it more positively. read more

Ordered a pizza and pasta carry out and waited at the bar for it. Pizza was ready after 10 minutes and was placed in front of us. However after 10 minutes passed we asked for it to be placed back on top Of the oven to keep it warm, which was done. Pasta took another 15 minutes to come out. It was placed on the counter but the bar tender didn't notice it at all. After 5 more minutes we asked it it was ours and it was handed it is along with the pizza. At that point we checked the pizza and it was cold, as it was ready 20 minutes earlier. They put it back in the oven for us however the damage was done and pizza base was full of water and limp. No apology for the pizza. The manager apologized for the extra wait. As a side note the bar tender was extremely rude (we have had him ever time). After taking the order he said nothing and came back with the check. Once we paid he again said nothing but huffed, shook his head and walked away. When we asked him about the cold pizza mentioned above he said "yeah yeah I'll deal with it buddy". He then walked in the opposite direction and into the kitchen. He didn't deal with anything. Luckily the pizza chef did as did the manager. Overall we have been here three times. Every time the bartender has completely ruined the experience. Extremely slow and rude service, genuinely makes you feel like he is doing you a favor just being there to serve you. It is a shame as the manager and pizza chef are very good. However, we will never come here again based on this bar tenders rudeness. read more

A few friends and I went here on a Saturday for a birthday brunch. We came for the bottomless mimosas and had a great time! The food was good for DC area food, but for the price it was absolutely excellent. Our waiter, however, is really what I have to rave about. Mauro was our server (I'm just completing this review now - we went on a Saturday back in September) and he was absolutely incredible! We all did the bottomless mimosas and I don't think my glass, or any glass at the table for that matter, was ever empty. As a fellow server, I know that bottomless drinks are tough because you spend so much time with the table but the check never increases - so the fact that he did so well with us at a time that they had bottomless drinks really impressed me! I later went over to him to ask if they did anything special for birthdays (we had told him earlier that we were here for a birthday) and before I could even finish my sentence he told me that he already had something put in for the birthday - and it was totally free of charge. Talk about YUM! My friends and I got dinner here after a full day on U Street, and we had a great experience! We got the fried calamari and zucchini to start, and there were fun little pieces of fried garlic and rosemary in there too. I had the capellini con pomodoro; it was a delicious vegetarian option! One of my friends got the penne alla vodka, and he LOVED it. My other pal got the bucatini with pancetta. It honestly wasn't her favorite, but a major reason for that is that she didn't know what pancetta was beforehand, so her choice was misguided. Overall, the dinner was great! read more

Considering myself an expert burger eater, I can say that Sette's burger is even with 5 Guys hands down. There are now 2 edible burgers in DC - Sette and 5 Guys, with Sette edging towards a win. Their pizza was great, and I personally liked the laid-back European service (where servers don't come by your table every two minutes pushing you to order more to increase their tip). The only snag we experienced was our credit card being charged almost double the amount of our order. The staff was responsive when I called to inquire, though it was a bit odd that they made us come in for a cash reimbursement instead of just adjusting the amount on our card. I can honestly make all of these dishes myself, and yet they still claim that they have an in-house "chef." Jokingly, his name sounded more latino than it did italian. In any case, their $13.99 calzone, comes out like a big ole crescent moon shape filled with dough, dough, and MORE dough. The occasional cheese and SPAM (or I swear it was ham from safeway, in the 99 cent section) made me what to gag. The plate is empty and all white except for a tiny container of "tomato sauce"-home made? Nah...Go elsewhere, plan ahead, and avoid this over priced wannabe italian place. read more

Yummy dinner here a few nights ago. We shared the burrata appetizer- so good! Also shared the bruschetta- good but have had better. Split the creamy shrimp pesto fettuccine and the pumpkin ravioli and enjoyed both. The pesto was very rich and could have had a few more shrimp for the price but was tasty. The sauce was plentiful and was great on the bread. Really enjoyed the pumpkin ravioli- its sweetness was a little surprising but quite good. I wouldn't have wanted the pumpkin ravioli as my entire meal but was perfect to share. We were seated in the large room in front next to a large party. They were noisy, making it hard to talk. Would request a table in the back next time for a more intimate meal. Would also be a fun place for a large party- lots of interesting dishes to try! Solid spot for a good Italian dinner! read more

I live around the corner and Sette Osteria is hardly ever full, even when there are massive waits at every other restaurant nearby. While I thought the food was surprisingly okay (not great), it is overpriced for what you get. Only some pastas are handmade. I also got the feeling that with such a big menu, you could easily order wrong. What really drives this mediocre review is the service. Our waiter was pushy, rude, and did not seem to want us there. I was really hoping to find a good replacement for our regular Italian place that closed, but this just isn't it. I'd blow your carb budget (food-wise and money-wise) somewhere else. read more

i've been here about 6 times. the first 4 times were a good experience. with the last two we got terrible service on a weekend with very it not being very crowded. this last experience was the worst. we had to ask repeatedly for a glass of wine. the support staff was much more responsive than the actual waitress. they got my entree wrong (asked for fettuccine alfredo with shrimp and got chicken instead) they quickly fixed that, but never apologized. a man came up to me from the street askming adamantly for food and money which i handled respectfully. they did come up quickly after to check that i was ok (i gather that this person was a regular) but after that they ignored us. they did not forget to charge us completely for the meal, however. when we looked for the waitress, she was often chatting with the bartender. it was my birthday and i would liked to have gotten a special dessert, but we were so discouraged, that we got the check and left. they could have gotten a lot more business from us if they were more attentive. we spent over $150 for two people. as much as i like their fresh pasta, i am never going back to this restaurant and will discourage others to do so as well. and i'm in the hospitality business. read more

My husband and I happened to stop by this restaurant on Friday night. We walked in and were seated right away. We were greeted by our waitress in less than one minute after we sat down. She was able to recommend some of the specials to us; we tried the tomato and mozzarella appetizer which was delicious. Came here for Valentine's Dinner. The restaurant was decorated with balloons, which was a nice festive touch. We ordered burrata appetizer, scallops and osso buco from their valentines menu. My husband and I ended up on Sette Osteria's patio for the 2016 Pride Parade and had such a good time we decided to come back for 2017 with a group of friends. There was some initial confusion regarding the patio reservation I requested, but the general manager helped resolve the confusion quickly and easily. Our group ended up having a wonderful time enjoying sangria, aperol spritzes, pizza, and other appetizers while watching the parade. Went to this place on a really hot day and they had their A/C off, gave us shit about not wanting to sit in the heat. They charged extra for bread which is absurd for any decent restaurant and they charged 8 dollars extra for chicken w/ pasta. I do not mind paying extra but there were literally 5 small cubes of chicken in their mediocre pasta that I could have made at home because there was nothing special about it at all. and their Sangria tastes like welches grape juice. We spoke to the manager about how bad our experience was and he was pretty much laughing at us saying there was nothing he could do about it. We are not snobby people, we have worked in restaurants before and understand how the system works. They clearly do not care about customers returning there. I've been here for both happy hour and brunch and they were both awesome!! The happy hour is from 4-8 and has great food and drink specials. The bottomless mimosas at brunch are a great deal and the mimosas actually have champagne in them as opposed to some brunch places which give you a huge glass of orange juice with a splash of champagne.
