Here's an honest review of the 3 plates I ordered using Uber Eats. I would give this place 3.5 stars but Yelp doesn't do half stars. The Adana / lule kebab was good. The hummus is good. The rice is plain but good. Side salad is good. The doner is bland and slightly dry. The fries are bland, dry, and unseasoned. Some salt would go a long way. Don't get fries here. The tzatziki like side sauce that comes on every plate needs some more salt. The cicak could use salt as well.. The filet was average/ a bit dry. With that being said I would eat the Adana plate again only and try the lahmacun next time around. read more

I can't believe this vendor came from LA to December nights! The line for their food was the longest, so we decided to try their doner sandwiches since they had the beef cooked on a vertical rotisserie that looked so good. You need to pay first, then get in another line to get your order. We ordered two doner sandwiches, which came with a white sauce and veggies. It was smaller than I expected, but the beef was very flavorful and delicious! I had a craving for fries and initially wanted to get this topped with the beef, but thought it was too expensive ($14) for such a small side item. I'm sure they hiked up the pricing for this event because every other vendor's prices were extremely high as well. I'd still love to check out their restaurant on my next trip to LA though, to see other menu items they have to offer. read more

The bread was served warm but oddly a bit dry, That was no concern once slathered with the hummus. The hummus was very good. The Lule was very tasty and rice was on point. At the end of St. Vincent Court is a Turkish restaurant called Sevan Garden Kebab House. It looks like an unassuming place, but the food here is delicious. Everything is made-to-order so do not expect to get your food right away. Expect to wait between 10 to 20 minutes. However, pickup and delivery options are available, but the delivery minimum is $30. I always order one of the kebab meals, which is a lot of food that is easily shared with another person or split into two meals. Get the combination kebab platter if you want to try the different meats. The lamb chops are a solid option as well. The meal comes with salad, hummus, pita bread, and either white rice, bulgur pilaf, or french fries. Choose the bulgur pilaf. It is really good. If you order the iskender kebab, substitute the pita bread that the meat is topped on for french fries instead. Aside from the meals, there are also soups, salads, wraps, and a few other specialty items. There are also seafood and vegetarian options too. The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. so this is a lunch option rather than a dinner option. If you are dining in, you order at the counter and then sit down. The interior of the restaurant is kept clean and simple, and the owners seem to be huge fans of some Turkish sports team since pictures and newspaper clippings are framed up along one of the walls. Overall, the staff members are pretty nice and helpful. They will explain the menu items and give recommendations if you need help deciding. There are plenty of food options in St. Vincent Court, but take walk down the alley to Sevan Garden. Sevan Garden is at the end of the alley, but it a short alley and therefore a short walk. Enjoy the walk though and the interesting architecture of the buildings too. It is a nice little escape from the hustle and bustle of DTLA, and the Mediterranean diet is supposed to be good for you. read more

Finding anything close to Turkish Doner (shawarma, gyros, you name it) is impossible anywhere outside of Turkey itself. But craving it sooo bad have very few options so decided to order from here. The salad and hummus with the Doner was good; it arrived in about 20 minutes good too. The doner itself is decent. Again nothing close to Istanbul but will take it these days. Lots of rice and very little meat however for 19 bucks delivered, or else would order more frequently. I got full eating almost all the bread and rice. 3.5 stars rounding up to 4. We initially visited this place during one of our visits to the jewelry district, and now when we're in the area we look forward to our meal here. It's definitely a hidden gem (literally) and the service can be very standoffish, but it's worth the flavors you get. In the heart of the gritty Jewelry District sits a little known two block brick street, St. Vincent Court. This street, nestled between huge pre-World War II buildings is lined with Mediterranean delis, kabob shops, barbers and outdoor cafes. This jewel, until today, was unknown to me. At lunch I set out on another lunch-time adventure, thanks to my fellow Yelpers. Today, I was headed to Sevan Garden Kabob House and ended up getting way, way more than I bargained for. As I made my way through the Jewelry District and marveled at the architecture, I couldn't help but feel inspired. Having been born and raised in LA, one of the things that I am most envious of other cities is their soul and history. As I have used Yelp more and more to break out of the chain conundrum, what I am realizing is that LA does INDEED have a soul, you just need to look for it a bit harder. The boom years of LA, where all post World War II, leading to many buildings and homes that were built to look the same. However, if you explore the older parts of the basin, such as the Jewelry District, you find architecture and inspiration that you normally need to visit San Francisco, NYC, Chicago, Boston or even Europe for. But you have to stop, slow down and look for it because it won't smack you across the face and is usually upstaged by something shinier and newer, which is the first rule of Hollywood anyways, right? I rounded the corner onto St Vincent Court and was blown away. I literally felt like I had been transported to a street in Europe. Even though this street is only a few blocks long and is basically an alley, the numerous colorful shops and cafes that line it set it apart from almost anywhere else in LA. Even the street feels European. Yup, someone had the commonsense, at least on this small slice of heaven, to not allow the 1950's obsession with concrete and later asphalt to destroy the original way this street was lined, with brick. Or, at least, someone protected the heritage of this street and assured it was redone in a more traditional manner. Works either way for me... I have to be honest, I was a bit overwhelmed by the number of places to explore and eat in such a compact area. Seriously, I am so excited to come back and try each and every one. My destination, Sevan, is located at the end of the street, tucked into a corner. Sevan offers both indoor and outdoor dining, but I see zero reason to eat inside when they offer such amazing outdoor ambiance. The outdoor seating of the café is literally on the street. Since it is a dead end and there is no through traffic, the restaurant has "taking it to the streets!" Shaded by the tall, old buildings around it and umbrellas, if needed, you are protected from the elements, while still being outside amongst life. It made we want to hop on a plane to Florence or Istanbul or anywhere across the Atlantic, for that matter. My meal decision was easy, after I asked a simple questions, as I was torn between the chicken kabob and the Dober, my server suggested I do a combo, which I thought was an excellent idea. I started with a refreshing Shiraz salad that had a light citrusy dressing on it, followed by some great humus and pita. I was pretty satisfied before my meal even arrived. And, then it came, placed before me, I couldn't wait to dig in. This place had me in such a great mood, that even one of my biggest pet peeves (canned soda) didn't bother me in the least. In fact, it felt like that was the way any trip to the Mediterranean, at lunch time, should be. Of course, I had Fanta because I am so cosmopolitan. OK, now back to the meal. The chicken was amazing; so moist and succulent. Honestly, it was some of the best chicken kabob I have had. The Dober (Gyro) was good too, perhaps a half a tick down below the chicken, but still very good, none the less. And, finally, the bulgur (white rice) was a welcomed side kick to the entire plate. The combination of "off the charts" ambiance and stellar food, makes Sevan a winner. And, leaves me extremely excited to take a few more scheduled trips to this Mediterranean street lost amongst old school LA. The worst doner 'sandwich' I've ever had. Ever. I can't find one nice thing to say about it. The meat was dry, lukewarm, tough, and utterly spice-less. The bread was somehow even drier while simultaneously being stale. Biting into it immediately made all saliva flee my mouth for greener pastures and the substance in my mouth turn to what felt like dust. Unfinishable. I got a hummus sandwich for my boyfriend, who proclaimed it 'salad sandwich'. I looked: yep, no hummus to be found! They just took their side salad - which they serve as a side to this very sandwich! - and stuffed it in a pita. I stumbled across this place on my walk today. The alley it is in reminds be a some of the cobblestone alleys in Paris. It was a difficult decision which place to try but we opted for Sevan Garden. The server (but could have been the owner) was very friendly and greeted us outside to tell us about his menu and what he recommended. I ordered their Greek salad and my husband ordered the number 5 which was spicy beef. My husbands side salad arrived along with some pita and hummus. Both were very good. Actually, I though that salad was mine and was thinking wow I thought it had more to it. It DID! Shortly our food arrived and I had a HUGE salad with feta, tomatos, cumcumbers, olives...really really good. They keep to the traditional recipes and not just the shawarmas. A totally a local spot, food here is pretty authentic. A neighborhood-favorite, when you dont know where to eat, you pick Sevan. This place's lule kebabs were a little spicy but good - not too greasy just right. They give you a ton of tomato, onion, and cucumber salad and fair amount of pita bread. You also have your choice of brown rice (!) instead of white rice to make it healthier than eating a bunch of white rice. Fadrid's a few stores down might have a slight edge over them with the quality of the beef but at least they didn't force me to buy a bottled water. read more

My bf and I happened to be in the area shopping around the jewelry district downtown when we decided to stop at this place for lunch before we headed home. At first glance the place doesn't really get your attention. It's located in a weird alley with lots of men smoking cigarettes outside. You can tell it's mostly workers who eat here but the food was good none the less. We got complimentary pita bread. It was kinda thin and stale but a sweet gesture. Also ordered an isreali salad that was very fresh. They had an interesting menu. I guess the place is Turkish? I'm not really familiar with Turkish food but the waiter was really nice and explained to me a little what they're all about. I was torn between the chicken and beef kabobs so he suggested I get both, very nice of him to split the order for me. My BF got the lamb per our servers suggestion (he was thinking about getting it anyway) apparently it's a very popular dish there and people come just for the lamb. We sat outside it was nice except a few guys smoking around us but they didn't stay for long. There also a tv outside to watch the game.
