Combination Kebab Platter (shish kebab, chicken kebab, kotte kebab, and doner kebab (gyro))
    Kristina T.

At the end of St. Vincent Court is a Turkish restaurant called Sevan Garden Kebab House. It looks like an unassuming place, but the food here is delicious. Everything is made-to-order so do not expect to get your food right away. Expect to wait between 10 to 20 minutes. However, pickup and delivery options are available, but the delivery minimum is $30. I always order one of the kebab meals, which is a lot of food that is easily shared with another person or split into two meals. Get the combination kebab platter if you want to try the different meats. The lamb chops are a solid option as well. The meal comes with salad, hummus, pita bread, and either white rice, bulgur pilaf, or french fries. Choose the bulgur pilaf. It is really good. If you order the iskender kebab, substitute the pita bread that the meat is topped on for french fries instead. Aside from the meals, there are also soups, salads, wraps, and a few other specialty items. There are also seafood and vegetarian options too. The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. so this is a lunch option rather than a dinner option. If you are dining in, you order at the counter and then sit down. The interior of the restaurant is kept clean and simple, and the owners seem to be huge fans of some Turkish sports team since pictures and newspaper clippings are framed up along one of the walls. Overall, the staff members are pretty nice and helpful. They will explain the menu items and give recommendations if you need help deciding. There are plenty of food options in St. Vincent Court, but take walk down the alley to Sevan Garden. Sevan Garden is at the end of the alley, but it a short alley and therefore a short walk. Enjoy the walk though and the interesting architecture of the buildings too. It is a nice little escape from the hustle and bustle of DTLA, and the Mediterranean diet is supposed to be good for you.

    Combination Plate: $19.99

As I continue to churn through the various Kebab spots in and around Downtown Los Angeles I'm finding that while kebab dishes are difficult to botch, they're equally difficult to really get right in a way that stands out from the rest. Sevan Garden Kebab House stands out on account of integrating Turkish inspired brown rice and shredded spit meat into the mix, but they don't quite stand out enough to claim a five-star crown. Shops of comparison for this review include: Sidewalk Grill: 5 Stars Corner Kabob: 3 Stars Shekarchi Restaurant: 4 Stars Dream Kabob House: 3 Stars Sultan Restaurant: 3 Stars Soom Soom Fresh Mediterranean: 4 Stars 10e Restaurant: 4 Stars Tipsy Grill: 4 Stars Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Tucked away in what is a full cul-de-sac of kebab shops from all over the world in St. Vincent Court, Sevan Garden's atmosphere mirrors in many way the surrounding shops. Service is friendly but during peak hours can get a bit overwhelmed, so don't expect to be able to quickly get in and out. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? At $19.99, Sevan Garden Kebab House dishes up the most expensive Combination Plate I've had anywhere in Los Angeles apart from Tipsy Grill ($22.00). Of note is that my Combination Plate also came with a generous portion of hummus and pita bread, so only for that reason will I give a star here, but I think that Sevan Garden Kebab House knows that a penny over $20.00 is too much for virtually any kebab dish. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? There were a few things that stood out to me about Sevan Garden Kebab House. First and foremost, they offer Turkish-style shredded meats that they include with their combination plate, and these are the real highlight of the whole dish. Additionally, they offer a short-grain brown rice that was memorable even if I didn't quite prefer it to the light and fluffy white and yellow rice that you'll find at most kebab shops. From there the skewers here were good and the portions generous. Two Stars. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Sevan Garden is good, but Sidewalk Grill remains the king of kebab shops in my book. No Star.

This place is excruciatingly slow. I sat down and it took them about 15 minutes to come take my order and bring me a water. I had the Doner wrap which was really really good. I absolutely loved it. Still waiting for someone to come out and give me my check so I can get back to work. I literally had to go inside and ask for it. Food 5 stars Service 1 star

Another great option at the St. Vincent Place/ Alley. Just like most of the restaurants in the alley, they serve Mediterranean food. Many menu items to select from with inside and outside sitting. I had the Doner plate (shwarma with brown rice) $10.99. Great quality and taste all around, and just the perfect portion size. If you have time, ask to play some of their table/board games. Why not, all the older men that chill here all day do it. Don't forget to get that Perrier to wash down theMediterranean goodness.

Hands down MY FAR the absolute best Turkish food in L.A. I drove from Long Beach for this and it did not fail! Ambience is very festive of the South Turkish culture, very friendly staff and clean all around! 10/10 , this is one hidden Turkish gem everyone should be looking for, for sure ;-)

Once you're seated, they bring out a few complimentary side dishes (Kimchi, pickled carrot, seaweed, salad and their signature dry spice seasoning. Ordering is easy through the QR code menu. Depending on what you order, some skewers are grilled by the kitchen while others are cooked on the automatic rotating grill right at your table, which adds to the fun dining experience. This visit, I tried: * Lamb Kebab (10 pcs) * Mala Lamb Kebab (5 pcs) * Beef Kebab (10 pcs) * Beef Tendon (5 pcs) * Chicken Heart (5 pcs) * Chicken Gizzard (5 pcs) * Chicken Wings * Quail * Matsutake Mushroom * Green Chives * Cucumber * Eggplant * Pan Fried Bun with Pork & Vegetable The lamb kebab and quail remain my two must-order items after all these years. The lamb is tender and flavorful without having a strong gamey taste, making it a good option even for people who don't usually eat lamb. The mala lamb kebab simply adds a nice layer of numbing spice which I don't find it special. The beef kebab was good as well, although I personally prefer the lamb. Chicken hearts and gizzards were decent. The beef tendon wasn't my favorite this time and didn't seem as fresh. Chicken wings were solid and nicely seasoned. For vegetables, I actually enjoyed the cucumber more than the chives and eggplant. The matsutake mushroom was good, though not particularly memorable. If you're a fan of meat buns, don't skip the pan-fried pork and vegetable bun. The bun itself was soft and fluffy, and I especially enjoyed the savory sauce paired on the side. One helpful tip: after 6 PM, you can park for free in the bank parking lot across the street, which makes finding parking much easier. After more than 15 years, Feng Mao continues to be a reliable spot for skewers, especially if you're dining with friends and want to try a variety of grilled meats and vegetables.

The restaurant has a really homey feeling inside, with about four small tables that make it feel cozy and welcoming. It's the kind of place where you immediately feel comfortable. My partner and I ordered the chicken shish kebabs with mejadra rice, salad, and sumac fries. Everything was delicious! The plate also came with hummus and pita, which were incredibly fresh and flavorful. The hummus was smooth, rich, and perfect with the warm pita. Hermon helped recommend our food, cooked it, and even served us. She was so kind and made the whole experience feel really personal. She also offered us complimentary baklava, which was amazing. It had the most soft, chewy texture with just enough sweetness. When I asked her what the secret ingredient was, she just smiled and said she couldn't spoil it so you'll have to try it for yourself! Chef Okay Inak is a chef of Turkish descent who has worked at fine dining establishments Eleven Madison Park, Per Se and Melisse. In 2024 he opened Sora Craft Kitchen near LA's Fashion District on a street rather devoid of other businesses open to the public. It's a small space, about 14 seats, but very nicely done. The seats are reinforced cardboard boxes that open to store your belongings. The tables are Ikea-like. The large open kitchen is like a stage, visible to all, with a magnificent sound system and a nice unobtrusive playlist. Sora is open Thursday-Sunday for dinner only. This restaurant is literally a one man show, clearly a labour of love. Chef Okay is the chef, host, waiter, busboy and everything in between. He handles each job with aplomb. Although I heard him speaking out loud at times, I don't know if there was another person present (perhaps a dishwasher?) or if he was talking to himself. After being shown your table, you order and pay at a kiosk. The Mediterranean menu includes some classic Turkish dishes, and chef uses traditional methods of lacto-fermentation and limestone/water preservation. Here's what I ordered: 1) Mastabe. A traditional cold meze of house-made yogurt topped with veggies, almonds, garlic and olive oil. 2) Icli kofte (kitel). a Bulgur shell filled with spiced beef over yogurt with herb chimichurri and oil. 3) root vegetable falafel with hummus, herb salad, pickles and a sweet pepper jam 4) garlic-spiced beef kebab with tomato/onion salad and lavash 5) Kirecte kabak. Pumpkin candied using a traditional limestone/water method, finished with tahini and pistachios. I think all tables get pita bread. Everything was fab; my faves would be the kitel, falafel and kirecte kabak. I had heard about and wanted to order the Corti taplamasi, a traditional soup made with lacto-fermented cabbage, but chef said he could not find appropriate cabbage. Everything came out quite quickly; the meal was complete within an hour. Note alcohol and pork are not served. I believe most beverages are canned, except the Turkish coffee of course. A delicious, from-the-heart, soulful meal.

They have a kiosk at the entrance with a small but mighty menu of flavor-filled Turkish dishes. The dishes were prompt and packed with rich Mediterranean flavors. Some of my favorites included the Kitel, Garlic Kabob, and Tenderloin Shish Kabob. The cheese Halva dessert was mind-blowing, capping it all off.
