My lights started flickering in my home office along with my computer monitor and printer going out and coming back on. That night my wife said the kitchen lights were flickering. Pretty soon we realized that 40-50% of the lights and outlets were affected. I called a licensed electrician that I know. He said it must be a loose wire inside the house. He recommended that I wait for a circuit to go out completely, then we would know where the trouble is coming from. Otherwise he would have to go through the whole house (2,600 sq. ft.) tearing up the plaster walls looking for a loose wire. But the flickering went on for several days and eventually the power would go out for five to ten minutes at a time - nearly all the lights in the house. I called Manny of Seven Electric to get a second opinion. As soon as I told him the problem he said it must be an outside problem. One of the wires or connections coming from the pole. He reasoned that if it was inside the house, there wouldn't be so many circuits involved. Manny got on the phone to So. Cal. Edison and reported the problem. He said they'd be out that day. The last thing he told me was: "make sure the Edison guy goes up on the pole and checks the connections. They'll try to tell you it's not necessary." The Edison guy was there 90 minutes later. He hooked up a machine to my (nearly new) electrical panel and tested it. He said if there was a problem on the pole the machine would show it. Everything checked out ok. I told him the electrician said to go up the pole so he could eliminate that as a cause of the problem. He didn't want to, but he finally agreed. He changed the connections on the pole and on my roof. That did it. No more flickering! Just imagine if I had gone with the first electrician. I might have eventually turned him loose tearing up the walls and even re-wiring the house. I've heard that a re-wire on a house this size is over $25,000. Manny was at my house for less than 15 minutes and didn't even charge me. He said if Edison doesn't take care of it, call me. Manny was on time, personable and very knowledgeable. I am so grateful and give him the highest recommendation. read more

This was the second time I've worked with Manny and Seven Electric. The first was a pretty comprehensive EV charger installation and this was for a pretty complex fan installation. I called Seven Electric as one of several companies for a bid on relocating outdoor electrical conduits for a fence-building project. Their price was very reasonable, bidding prompt and clearly explained, and the service was excellent! It involved two visits, one to take out the old conduits and a second to replace them after the new fence was up. Timing was important because the conduits went to my pool equipment, which needed to be returned to service promptly. Who the hell puts a smoke detector on a stairwell ceiling that's 15 feet tall? The jerk who built my condo. Also, I guess it's code. That's why the things are all over, in the bedrooms and stairwells, & I can't reach any of them. One began chirping a few days ago. If I was a squirrel I coulda got at it. Another one started today. It's a conspiracy, I tell you. And they always chirp at 3am. My (former) handyman replaced them recently. I figured this time around I'm calling an electrician to get it done right. I knew this was not gonna be cheap, but the alternative was to check in to a hotel indefinitely. I feel a story coming on...... Uncle Eddie (as he is affectionately referred to at Seven Electric) was at my house for about 3 hours. He replaced the hard-wired smoke alarms & a corroded GFCI outlet. To get to the smoke alarm that was 15 feet up, he had to work around stairs & a chandelier, with a slate floor below. I held my breath. In a past life, Uncle Eddie was indeed a squirrel, cuz he handled it beautifully. And Uncle Eddie speaks Russian. I took Russian for 5 years in high school/college, back in the Stoned Age. I mean Stone Age. So I used all the stuff I remembered how to say in Russian: Hello I speak Russian Do you speak Russian? Good How are you? Please Thank You Goodbye Yes No I love you and I can count to 20. Manny is wonderful, so friendly. Uncle Eddie is my savior. I forgot to take his photo! Midway through the job, I decided I should put extended-life batteries in the smoke detectors, and the new 15-foot-high alarm was already installed. I went to Radio Shack to get long-life batteries & Uncle Eddie went back to his truck, hauled the big ladder back in, and went up a second time without a hint of complaint. When the whole job was finally done and Uncle Eddie was leaving with all his ladders and other equipment, I said (in Russian): thank you, goodbye. Uncle Eddie responded, in Russian: no problem. Very upset!! I love yelp and I should have not used this company. Manny Diaz came out to my location and fixed the problem that we had. He had to order the part and said he would call. He never called when he said he would I had to call several times to find the status of the part. He said it would only take 2 days to get the part well that was a lie it took over a week. Then i had him come back again to fix something else giving him the benefit of the doubt. He forgot he had an appointment never showed. We hired Manny to install 16 recessed lights, 2 ceiling fans, relocate 2 switches, and add 3 new switches. The quote he gave us wasn't the cheapest we were willing to pay a bit more as he is licensed. When it came time to do the work, he subcontracted the work out to an electrician and an assistant out of Hollywood. This pair he subcontracted out to eventually got the job done, but not without a lot of headache. Their mistakes include: 1. running the wiring *over* the studs instead of through them (they didn't even notch the studs as some lazy electricians would do) 2. not installing metal protection plates over the spots where wire went through the studs 3. running lower gauge wiring than the breaker for the circuit required 4. not installing the proper boxes for the ceiling fans Each one of these mistakes would have caused the installation to fail inspection, but the combination of all 4 issues actually made our inspector laugh. He said that in his 20+ years of inspecting houses for the city, he's never seen an installation that bad. Our inspector even took pictures to show around the office, and no one had ever seen anything like it. After talking with Manny, he sent the same pair out. After another day of work, they managed to get everything fixed, and the city inspector passed the updated install. After everything was said and done, we had to spend additional $600 for people to come patch our ceiling, and the renovation was 2 weeks behind. Manny said that he felt bad that we ran into issues with his crew, and offered a $200 discount. We said great, he said he would be by on a certain day, but texted that day and said that he couldn't make it. He then tried to come again, but wasn't able to make it a second time. Then he said that he'd mail us a check. Time passed, no check. Then he said he was on vacation and would send a check when he got home. No check. He offered to send a check again, but obviously no check. All in all, the work eventually got done. The install wasn't as smooth as what I had expected from a licensed professional, but then again, I'm not sure the crew out of Hollywood was licensed. Then Manny promised a $200 refund no less than 5 times, but never delivered. read more

Had Manny and his crew over during our remodel to do recessed lighting in our living room and master bedroom. They also moved a ceiling fan and added a light to our kitchen island and changed out a bunch of switches. Very professional! Manny was there supervising and getting dirty everyday to make sure everything was done right the first time. Can't say enough great things about these guys. I already gave out his card to a couple of neighbors and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. I only wish I had them when I built out my office a couple of years ago, man those electricians were a disaster! Seven Electric is awesome!! Manny, the owner, is great. My grounded dryer outlet literally melted (a mini fire!) and Manny came out on a Sunday night to do a safety check and look at the problem. Fortunately, I turned off all the breakers and everything was safe for them to fix early the next morning. Seven Electric came right back early the next morning to fix my electrical outlet. The water from my washing machine had been dripping on the outlet below. They rewired everything and relocated my electrical outlet to a safer location. Manny is fantastic! And (shoot I cant remember the guy who came with him) is a perfectionist. They did more work than they originally quoted and came out the same day I called. The people who had remodeled my apt. had wired it badly and they found wires that had burned and could have set my place on fire. Wow. I cannot believe the amazing service I got from Manny today! I needed a quote for a simple job that I wasn't comfortable doing and sent a request for a quote out to multiple companies. I got responses from all 5 of them. One belaboring the simple job into a huge ordeal with a quote and another couldn't come look at the job until 2 weeks from now etc etc. After asking me a few questions, Manny held my hand through the install which I was able to do myself - for free! Who does that?! That is some high level of professional integrity. I am so thankful. He guided me to do it safely and even troubleshooted with me when I needed help from him. This would be a 5 minute fix for him (20 minutes for me!), and he just told me how to do it and asked that I send photos of what I did to ensure it was done correctly. So job completed at NO COST! Okay, so what makes these guys so good. First of all, they actually answer their phone. I spoke to Manny, told him that I had three electrical outlets no longer working and asked him what his minimum charge was. Manny told me the lowest possible price, barring any other unforeseen issues. The price was better than I expected and I told Manny to proceed. Two of his staff arrived just two hours after my initial phone call, fixed the problem and charged me the exact same lowest possible price that Manny had quoted.
