The location and views of the Naval Academy are five star. If anything, head to the Servern Inn and have a drink at sunset and you will be happy. Sitting on their deck outside makes me love being from MD. The food is mediocre and pricing high, so I can't gush forever on this place. Crab cakes were disappointing (plus I only eat crab cakes in MD, so I was doubly disappointed because of how little I get to eat crab these days). That said, for the setting alone I would come back to the Severn Inn. read more

Worst food I ever had, the crab pasta had no taste and no sauce at all. The crap soup I ordered was the worst soup. We totally paid like 400 dollars for the table and nobody liked their foods. 3 years ago place was excellent, today it was overpriced and very disappointing. The calamari was swimming in sauce, overcooked, and not hot. The much touted crab cake appetizer that comes with fried green tomatoes and corn salsa was very sloppy and the cake itself was drenched in a butter sauce, don't believe the menu when it says fillerless. Their prices are crazy high. On the positive the view is great and service was above average. If you want a crab cake, drive to Davis' which has been consistent last 25 years. read more

View was amazing. Right on the water! Food was well cooked and had an interesting flavor profile. They don't let you substitute anything at all! Didn't like that. My Halibut was $36 and the crab cakes were $40! Not worth he money if you asked me. Plate with crab cakes had pool of water in it. Hopefully that was from the fried green tomatoes and not from the crab. Menu was very limited. Had deviled eggs as an appetizer, i don't recommend it. Beautiful view if you eat outside. Menu is slim pickings, not much to choose from. Husband had the ribeye which was covered with sweet potato fries and sitting on creamer local kale. The steak is huge, tender and cooked just right. I had the scallops on a corn salsa which was so good that I cleaned my plate. The service was a little slow but we did not mind since we were spending time with family. Giving 4 stars due to lack of selection. I will saw that choosing from 5 entrees made it simple. Food = Fantastic! The crab bisque was the best I have ever had. Bread was artisan. The flash grilled salad was delicious. I had the blackened mahi which was perfectly done and served with grits and grilled veggies. Loved it. My wife had the shrimp pasta and for the first time didn't leave a restaurant with a take home box. Service = Also fantastic! Our waitress Zoey was great. The best 4th of July ever spent at the Severn Inn. We picked up our parking pass days before. The Severn Inn does not overbook. You will feel comfortable and relaxed overlooking the Naval Academy in the heart of Annapolis. We celebrated the evening listening to a selection of beautiful songs that celebrate independence, summer light, and dazzling light displays on the water. Great experience. I took my wife there for her birthday and it was great. We have steak with crab cakes. The server recommended a mixed drink which was great. This was on Thursday the 27th around 5pm. We sat in the fine dinning area. We did notcie there are two areas...one for fine dinning and one for casual. I have seen this before in other restaurants, but don't like it. I did notice the waitress was bussing her own tables and that there were only a couple of other people there at that time. I wondered if people were staying away because of the poor customers service they noted in other review. For us, we had a good expereince. read more

My husband and I went to Severn Inn after our first day trip to Annapolis (we just moved to D.C. from Boston a few months ago). The atmosphere was fantastic; we sat on the deck right on the river. For dinner, I got the tomato salad and the Massachusetts rockfish and he got the wedge and Texas redfish. They were amazing! We had a wonderful waitress (Patricia), and had so much fun watching the ducks swim right next to the deck in the river. Dinner was perfect. The two hostesses were a little harsh when we first arrived. We came early for our reservation, but the restaurant was almost empty (it was a very early dinner). The hostess still seated us at a different table and then told us that we had to come back up to be reseated, but after that was all sorted out, everything was great. I always have a great experience at the Severn Inn. The views are great. The staff is always helpful and accommodating. I have a food allergy and they were able to guide me with what to order. The folks in my party got the Duck, the Short Rib, and the Bavette Steak. All of which were out of the park. The only downside would be the price. $180 for three people seems a bit steep to me. This is my second time going to brunch at the Severn Inn. The views of the water are great along with the wait staff. Parking can be a little tricky, as this is a popular place and the parking lot isn't that big. The food is good. I think it would be a lot more helpful to diners if individual place cards indicated what dish was in each warmer. On my most recent visit there was a list of what was on the warmers at the beginning of the buffet table, but it didn't individually tell you the names of the dishes (with the exception of the beignets). I dined here on Halloween night, and it was spooky indeed! I was there for a business dinner with colleagues, all of whom were white but me. I watched how their staff catered to them and completely ignored me. I even quietly pointed it out to one of my colleagues and asked her to observe -- she was floored at what she witnessed. Food was great. Biggest issue is that the restaurant does not accept vertical ID's, including Active Duty Military CACs, to be served alcohol. There are a significant amount of Naval Academy midshipman who are looking for good local restaurants that have available outdoor dining options because of VERY strict USNA liberty restrictions. Severn Inn has a great proximity to the Yard. Many midshipman who have turned 21 over the COVID-19 have not been able to return home Or get horizontal driver's liscenses. Turning down midshipmen who are of legal drinking age and have federal IDs will lose this place a lot of business. At the very least, It would be appreciated to have that rule communicated prior to getting seated. read more

This pricey place is worth the price. Their big deck on the water is nicest waterside dining in Annapolis, hands-down. And the service is so accommodating. One of our cocktails was great, the other not; not a problem, waitress brings it back to the bar for doctoring and it comes back great. Could we get two soft-shell crabs on the fish platter instead of in sandwiches? No problem; they come on two separate plates beautifully built on delicious sides. The menu is mostly classic Americana, but the Latino twists are delicious alternatives. The wine list includes a rare and interesting rose from North Italy, among more mainstream offerings. Severn Inn runs the gamut, and runs it well. Nice place for a date; nice place in the middle of a self-indulgent afternoon; nice to treat mom to lunch; nice at sunset; gorgeous on a gorgeous day. read more

Disappointing dinner. Went here to celebrate my husband's birthday. Bottom line: the quality is not justified by their high prices. In more detail: Was seated and Waitress said they were short on drink menus, so we listened to wine selections. My daughter's Shirley temple was so sweet she couldn't drink it. Dinner took forever. My husband's rockfish came and it was over cooked and dry, so we sent it back. My daughter's French fries were super salty. I ordered the Ahi tuna and the quality of the tuna was good, but it was in need of some type of sauce to complement it.it came with tempura book Choy which was interesting but salty. They told me they would take the Shirley temple off the bill but didn't. The kid's crab cake was listed as $20 in the kids menu but the bill said $22. The menus were wrinkled and stained. The outside of the restaurant smelled like trash. All in all, too many things that really detracted from dinner, esp for the prices they charge. I won't be back. View is great and service is good. Food is average and quite pricey. Interestingly the menu on the internet will not be the menu you see when you get to the restaurant. I was told that is because the menu changes regularly depending on the chef, availability of food items, etc. When I compared the menu in the restaurant with the menu on the internet my first impression was the moderate priced items on the internet menu had disappeared. Not sure that this is an everyday occurrence but I would not go there with a craving for something you found on the web site menu. I think a number of the reviews on this restaurant are on point. Deviled egg appetizer had to much mustard and was bland. Crab dip was mediocre. My wife had the crab cake and it was soggy drenched in corn and crab juice. I ordered a hamburger because of the poor quality seafood. The hamburger was good. I have been to this restaurant 10 times. Always by invitation from people who do not dine out much. This could be a great restaurant but every time I eat at this restaurant I have the same comments. Great view. Food is a 2 out of 10. Seems like management would get the hint but it does not change. After attending my fathers funeral at the Naval Academy, we decided to cheer our day with a visit to nearby restaurant. Happening upon the Severn Inn was a gold find to say the least! I was very, very disappointed. We went for my mother-in-law's birthday as it was highly recommended by family. The service was polite and courteous except for the nearly 20 minutes we sat with empty water and drinks (it felt a bit like they were understaffed). The food was the major disappointment. Our appetizers came out quickly and tasted fine. Not amazing, but fine. I do not suggest the scallops with shrimp the bread was soggy and the portion was two shrimp and two scallops for over $20. We went a long time between app and main-we were told that there were issues in the kitchen, this was evident when the mains finally did come. The mains were the primary disappointments. The crab cakes were mushy and filled with shell to the point where I ate half and gave up. The fried green tomatoes were also fine, but nothing special, the vegetable medley was actually quite good. The rockfish was so full of bones and dry my husband gave up at only a few bites. For a dinner that ended up costing over $200 I ended was sorely disappointed and will not be returning or suggesting it to family. Its a great location - it has a GREAT view - the place is decorated nicely and is welcoming. The staff is friendly, there are a few training issues with allergies, but above par. The menu is nice and modern - and the kids menu offers options not usually found elsewhere (with a higher price tag). We are a gluten free family, so its nice to see gluten free chicken fingers, filet, and grilled shrimp on a kids menu. The food however is a problem: my childs filet (ordered medium rare) was served welldone - and I would bet money it was not a filet at all. My three year old spat out the first bite and said "This is not tasty". I had to agree. They immediately changed it out for the chicken fingers which were better. I ordered a steak salad - the steak was perfectly cooked (and was definitely filet), but the salad content was lack luster and tasteless. I expected a better showing on the seafood side - my ceviche had a fishy taste; my wifes seafood salad was not up to par with both shrimp and crab (we suspected it was from a can) not making the board of worth eating. From order to table on those two salads - more then 30 minutes. Whether the issue was ingredients used or kitchen staff - this was a disappointing outing - and at $91 for lunch, is likely to permanently strike it from our places to visit. One bright note - the Sangria was AMAZING. I never drink white Sangria and was simply floored by its taste and variety of fruit. read more

I made a reservation there for Mother's Day and requested a table for 2 by the window. No problem,,. I had called enough ahead to get one. When we arrived, I was told that only parties of 4 could sit at the window and we would have to sit in the middle of this warehouse style setup even though ALL of the window tables were open. When we asked to talk to the manager we were left waiting in the middle of the restaurant for what seemed like ages until finally I tracked the hostess down again who was just standing talking to a waiter. When I asked about the manager, she said (I swear) "Only parties of 4 can sit at the window" We left and had a great meal at Cafe Mezzanotte. This place has a great view, whether you sit inside or outside. I went here for brunch the other day. The server was very nice and accommodating; I went with my parents to visit my grandmother, who made requests- a certain this, a certain that, she wanted new silverware everytime she got a new plate at the brunch buffet, and he did everything with a smile. They had a nice crab soup (a little peppery, but not bad) and a decent selection, especially for the tail end of brunch. Regular breakfast selection- bacon, sausage, you could customize your own omelet, home fries (made with lots of peppers?), etc. there was also shrimp, lasagna, and meat cut for you as well as a small salad bar.
