I am extremely overdue in writing this review, but I need to share my story of how Jeanette saved my dress. I bought my wedding gown at an Alfred Angelo closeout sale nine months before my wedding date. Around four months later I brought the dress to a family friend whom my parents insisted I bring it to because she used to make wedding dresses. She ends up hanging on to the dress until a month before the wedding. When I get it back, I notice my dress was hemmed like a pair of pants, just folded over. The outer layer of my dress is lace and it looked like a loofa. My so-called bustle was a hole through the backside of my dress to just pull the hanger loop out from underneath. It was a mess. I showed my MOH and bridesmaids. It got to a point where they told me to just buy a new dress. I really liked my Disney dress so I made a few calls to some mobile seamstresses. They all said it was too late for my dress to be fixed. This is where Jeanette answers my call and says she could take a look and see if it can be done in 2 weeks. The next morning, I get off work from my night shift, shower, and rush on over to her place which was only 10 minutes away. I put on my dress and she starts to take apart the stitching my family friend did to the lace. It was salvageable. I saw all the dresses she had made and placed on display. I knew I was at the right place. She specialized in lace. Four days after I left my dress with Jeanette, she calls me saying my dress was finished. She really worked her magic! It was ahead of schedule and she lifted so much weight off my shoulders. I tried on the dress and it was perfect. Bought a dress pretty last minute for our elopement and even though it was custom sizing the straps were it tight. Brought it to Jeanette and she was uncertain if she would be able to make it work, but SHE MADE IT WORK. It was a difficult fix that I was too worried to take on myself so I figured better safe than sorry and took it in to someone. I had planned on visiting other tailors but Jeanette was so kind and friendly and gave me such a great price I couldn't turn it down. I purchased my wedding dress back in March of 2021 for my October wedding and immediately was on the search for a seamstress. Came across Jeanette and she responded ASAP to my message. We set up an appointment for the next week. The initial appointment was great, she made me fell real comfortable and she definitely knows what she is talking about. Since it was so early for alterations she told me to reach out to her again in July so she can schedule me for August. I reached out on 07/14/21 and she informed that she is moving and no longer taking appointments. I expressed that I was bummed and that I thought I was ahead and didn't have to worry because I had her. I understand life happens, but I was still bummed and now a little worry that I wont find anyone else. I was wondering if I could have sleeves since I've gained some weight over quarantine haha and I was curious if I could add sleeves and if not I wanted to ad just a wire to make it stand up on its own. It's already beautiful dress I just wanted to enhance it. The tailor could've politely said no that it wasn't possible and I would've went about my day. After saying she couldn't do what I wanted which I understood why because she explained very well to me why she couldn't. I just couldn't respond because i was with a client and then she decided upon herself 3 minutes later to say she had no interest in my dress or so called "project" and that she basically had more important things to do like weddings. I had no idea where to get my bridal gown altered, so my fiancé posted on the Monrovia Facebook group to ask. After making a few calls for local seamstresses, I found Jeannette from Sew in Love Couture! She works out of her home and has so much knowledge of bridal gowns and dresses (my jaw dropped when she said she'd been in the seamstress business for over 50 years; she really doesn't look like she's over 50!). I appreciated that she gives great advice and suggestions for the best and/or cost effective way to decide on how your alteration will be done. For example, my Maid of Honor's dress had really large straps and she gave her a simple alternative to make it look less ginormous and it was a reasonable cost. Since my dress train is pretty long, her advice was to do a French bustle because it will look like it's gathered in one place, but it's bustled in three places. She even color codes the three sets of bustles points so that it's easier for your friends/family to help bustle your train! I am 5' tall, and a petite build, which puts me into an "extreme" category for sizing. When I was first starting to shop for dresses, I was not having the best experiences. It was getting so frustrating, and far more expensive beyond my expected budget. I went to her pre pandemic and in the midst of that madness I had to postpone my wedding. When it came time to celebrate again I brought my dress I had tailored with her out and noticed once I put on the same heels that the dress was not evenly cut on the bottom of the skirt. I was horrified to see how uneven it was cut and I was wearing the same 2" heels we used to hem the dress to. I didn't notice how bad it was since I recalled the lighting in her home was dark and the mirror she used was off to the side and angled so it's not facing you head on. Everyone will say this and it's completely true, Jeanette is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. I was fortunate enough to have wonderful venders for my wedding. I accidentally found Jeanette on yelp when I went looking for a place for alterations. I hadn't bought my dress yet, I was just seeing who could alter it if I did end up buying one from David's Bridal. I didn't end up buying it from DB because I made the HORRIBLE mistake of going to a high end bridal boutique (one that was very snobby) and trying on a beautiful Ramona Kaveza dress that costs $5000. Of course I fell in love with it and there was no way I was going to get the DB dress. That's where Jeanette came in. I emailed her pics and she loved my dress and said she could make it. She was so responsive and we met up to go over my vision and her game plan for making it. The idea of having a custom dress that no one else will have appealed to me greatly. I ended up having a ball gown made (a silhouette I never thought I would like) that Jeanette matched to the Kaveza dress that I loved. I ended up loving my dress soooooo much more than the over priced Kaveza at a fraction of the price. The entire process was nervewracking (probably due to the wedding planning, of course) and I wasn't sure if Jeanette would be able to make the dress I had in my head but I worried for nothing. When I tried on the final product, I just fell in love with it. She listens to everything you want (never judging you for what you love and is so enthusiastic about everything) and will try her best to give it to you (or tell you gently its not a good idea which you should listen to because she knows her stuff!). Can I tell you how Jeanette helped me fit in my dress 5 days before I needed to wear it?!
