Very good authentic Chinese. I have been to china many times and have family that lives there as well. This is the most authentic Chinese food that I have found in the Valley. While the menu is very diverse and authentic there are items that everyone will enjoy as well (orange chicken, Kung pao etc.). If you want a taste of china without getting on a flight this is the spot. Only reason it's not 5 stars is the music selection at lunch. Could use a little less Adriana Grande. This place does not take vegan or vegetarian considerations into account. And if you dine here, you WILL get sick because they cook their vegetarian dishes in the same pans as meat without rinsing them out! You can taste the pork in the vegetarian noodles! Good luck explaining this issue to the asians that work here with the language barrier! They have a hard time understanding English so if you need anything more than a point and order entree, you will be in trouble. The dish I ordered was much too spicy and they couldn't understand the fact I wanted it less spicy. It was as if they loaded MORE jalapeño into the dish. They love using jalapeño as a filler for their food. (See my pic) Had high hopes for this place but it disappointed. The hand pulled noodle spot a few blocks down across from meekong has better noodles than this spot with better English being spoken. Food was okay but not worth this language barrier. Workers were not only not proficient enough in English but also rude. I had to ask to get my water refilled every time, and they were giving me attitude for refilling my water so many times. It was their fault for making my dish so spicy I had to drink lots of water. All I got when I walked into the restaurant were stares. Nobody greeted me but all the workers did all stare and look at me as I walked in, which made me feel uncomfortable. When I left, nobody said goodbye. They sure know how to treat a customer! I was excited to hear a restaurant had opened up serving cuisine from the Shaanxi Province. Time for biang biang noodles! (Or if you are Ricky Martin and William Hung, She Biangs, She Biangs) We split the aforementioned biang biang noodles, four bowls of happiness, and Shaanxi delighted lamb soup. They were made so quickly, only a few short minutes and each dish looked deliciously appetizing. The biang biang noodles give you a lot of biang for your buck, since it one gigantic long noodle surrounded by broth, shredded pork, cubed vegetables, and bok choy. Unfortunately the whole dish was too salty for my tastes, and the potatoes in the vegetable mixture were undercooked. The noodles themselves tasted excellent, perfectly cooked with a great "bite" to them. I was indeed delighted to have the lamb soup, a contrast of delicate and bold flavors. The clear broth was accented with numbing Sichuan peppercorn oil, lightly seasoned, with hearty slices of lamb, and delicate rice noodles. I loved the variety of the four bowls of happiness, which offers crispy beef, meatballs, sliced pork, and marinated tofu. While the servers were quick to seat us, place our order and deliver our food, we did need to request some basic items such as spoons and bowls for our meal. The decor is nice at this restaurant. You can tell they put a some thought into making it into a contemporary update on more traditional Chinese style designs. Unfortunately the food hasn't kept its quality the last few times I've gone the noodles have been overcooked, underproofed and just soggy. The flavor is not quite as bold as it used to be and I've been disappointed with the inconsistencies. I'll start off with the pros of this new restaurant. We went on a Sunday afternoon and the service was friendly and speedy. The rest of the review is the con......... Looking at the menu we had high hopes and was pretty excited. We ordered the crispy chicken as an appetizer A Choy in garlic Flamming surf bullfrog Iron shovel beef tongue And Ultra delight walnut shrimp DID NOT GET ANY RICE... how could you not at least offer this when 3 different chef special dishes were ordered??? The crispy chicken was fall off the bone tender and skin was pretty crispy. It was accompanied with a sweet and sour type sauce and some dried herbs. This was probably the best dish that we ordered. The A Choy in garlic was flavorful and still maintain a crunch when it came out to the table. Minor complaint was that it was slightly too greasy. The flamming bullfrog dish was a disappointment. It came out in a big soup bowl and on top was A LOT of shezwan peppers and chili big the dish wasn't at all spicy just the typical numb your tongue from the peppers without much flavor. Inside the broth was a lot of bean sprouts,zucchini, tofu and small slices of frog legs. You had to basically go fishing for the frog legs in a sea of unnecessary broth. Feel that the dish would have been better in a smaller bowl with less broth since at the end we just gave up trying to scoop around in the bowl The beef tongue dish was very flavorful and tasty but overall it was again a disappointment because it should have been more appropriately named iron shovel jalepeno with beef tongue. There was nothing but jalepeno and a few slices of beef tongue thrown in. If the ratio was a little more balance it would have been number 1. I love walnut shrimp at most the asian restaurants, it's a dish that is pretty hard to mess up. However, Shaanx i was surprisingly able to do just that. The plating was beautiful and was looking forward to my first bite, until I took the first bite. There was way to much breading and the mayo sauce. The breading itself was NOT crispy at all but more on the chewy side. Once I stripped the shrimp from the excess it was just a regular size shrimp but It was made like they used jumbo size shrimp for the price they charged. One of the shrimp was actually not cooked all they way either... It wouldnt have been so bad but the price was what made the experience not worth it at all, and the possibility of returning and giving them a second chance very minimal. This is the second time I have been to Shaanxi. Both visits were fantastic explorations of Chinese food. While they offer the standard dishes we are used to seeing, it would seem like a waste to order something that mundane here. Today I had the Beef Tongue on iron shovel. I had heard of the noodles served at Shaanxi Garden as was anxious to give them a try. Five of us arrived at 6:00 to have dinner. Ordered for appetizers and shared were Gizzards and non-spicy Squid. Both appetizers were covered in a grainy spice that was not very tasty. I had ordered Soybean Milk which helped to clear it from my palate. Next was Oil Seared Noodles, which were acceptable at best. The Oil on them was not spared and served as a reminder of my having eaten them the next morning. Another of our party who loves hot and spicy food ordered Fiery Pao Mo. He claimed that it was anything but fiery and did not finish eating the dish, stating that it had a funny flavor and had lots of granular seasoning on it. The Biang Biang noodles were nicely cooked, but were only available in a few incarnations. The restaurant seemed to be out of many items from the menu. As for drinks, one of our party ordered the QQ jelly, pronounced it as "OK", but did not finish it. The venue is nicely decorated with music in the background from a live band. Service was fair, with our waitress having a number of mix ups on orders due to language problems, though one cannot hold that against the restaurant. If one is not used to Szechuan style cooking this may not be to everyone's taste. The province where this food is from is just next to Szechuan, hence the use of all the spice. The restaurant was clean and bathrooms had proper supplies and cleanliness. 3 stars for cleanliness, atmosphere and serving authentic Biang Biang noodles as advertised. read more

Where should I start as an Asian??? The lady with glasses at the front desk, server? Manager? Boss?, whatever she is, really made me feel not cool to eat there as an Asian which has felt racism from Asian restaurant....I asked for packing the leftovers first and she threw some boxes and bags on our table then left without saying anything. The whole experience seemed like we were forgotten by them. Then the table next to us also asked for packing leftovers and she smiled so happily then started packing for them me by one!!!! That's an American family. I took my kid there and she just said hi to my kid then that's it and that's fine too. There's an American kid there and she kept going there to talk to the kid and told her how smart she was and how cute... She just gave so different two attitudes towards different races. We had dinner here and the food was AMAZING. My husband doesn't normally like Chinese food but he particular enjoyed the Mapo Tofu with Beef. Oh, he likes the decor, too. This restaurant used to be House of Egg Roll in Chandler but the owners closed that location early this year. When my friends told me that the same owners re-opened it in Mesa, I was excited but didn't expect it to be any different. But they managed to kick it up a notch at the new location with a more extensive menu that showcases a lot of unique dishes. I went there for lunch yesterday 1-6-23 for the first time. After seeing the PBS show featuring them I was looking forward to trying them out. The menu is extensive but based on what I saw I wanted to try the Braised Beef and noodles. When my dish was served number one it was not hot only warm! The "Beef" was mostly large chunks of FAT very little actual meat. The potatoes and carrots Bok Choy were also "warm" at best. What a delicious and authentic joint with kind service! As someone who has been to Xian before I can confirm that the biang biang noodles are truly representative of what one can enjoy there. We ordered the original non-spicy noodles, the spicy lamb biang biang noodles, and the tomato and egg biang biang noodles. 1. Specifically asked for a braised pork belly in clay pot but got a pork belly stir fry in lots of chilis. When I asked them it's not what I ordered they basically shrugged off and said that's what they have in terms of pork belly. 2. We ordered a beef tendon dish but there was only a total of 3 pieces of tendons 3. Rice you would have to purchase/order it separately, which is really unconventional since in Chinese restaurants by default the rice comes with entree orders...especially for such spicy and salty food. 4. The Chinese hamburger was different but the breading wasn't as warm or as soft as I expected. Overall it was a great experience. The food was alright. Probably the most authentic Chinese food I've found in Phoenix so far. The beef tongue was overcooked and it wasn't hot at all, kinda seems like they microwaved it. I really enjoyed my dining experience here. Arrived on a Saturday evening around 8 and there was a live artist there playing a Chinese zither and it was AMAZING. I was really shocked and it really added to my experience there. I ordered the hot and sour soup, the soup dumplings, and the oil seared noodles with braised beef. These items really hit the spot for me and I'd definitely come back. The noodles were spot on and had a bite to them, yet soft making the the perfect texture! The duck is chopped up at random into tiny pieces so there are tiny shards of shattered duck bone in about half the little chunks of duck. Never mind "fork or chop sticks?", I had to use my fingers to separate the bits of bone from the duck meat. But, even so, it was really good. My family wanted to try a new Chinese restaurant so we came here. We ordered the biangbiang noodles, liangpi cold skin noodles, cilantro lamb, hand wrapped cabbage, and the steamed whole fish (not sure what the name of the dish was). The cilantro lamb and hand wrapped cabbage, although very tasty and flavorful, had pretty small portions considering the price was around $15 for each dish. The biangbiang noodles consisted of flat thick noodles with a variety of vegetables. Although I really like these style of noodles, it tasted a bit bland. As for the liangpi, I liked the flavor of the dish but I'm not sure if they were authentic noodles made from wheat/rice flour as they looked just like normal noodles. The highlight was the whole fish as it was submerged in a large pot with a spicy broth with a variety of other ingredients like lotus root, tofu, bamboo shoots, etc. If I were to come again, I'd probably only order the fish and just skip the other dishes. read more

Well we ordered enough food for an army but there was only two of us. We had the Liang pi, spicy cumin lamb lo mein, spicy cumin lamb burger, the spicy fish soup, pork noodle soup, beef tongue and jalapeños, and a choy in garlic sauce. Out of all of this I would recommend getting the spicy cumin lamb lo mein and the beef tongue. The beef tongue had good seasonings and great flavor but the serving of beef was very small for the price. You get a lot of jalapeños and not a lot of beef tongue. The spicy cumin lamb noodles were good and the noodles were fresh and really delicious. I wish there was more meat more cumin and more spice! If I order something that says spicy I want it to be spicy. I don't think that any of their food was spicy at all. A little disappointed but I'm glad we tried it. I love xian food because of the cumin, spice and vinegar flavors but this place was a little bland. Perhaps you need to specify that you actually want things spicy. You should give it a try for the hand pulled noodles and let me know how you liked it. I wish there were more xian Chinese food restaurants in the valley! read more

THE most authentic and unique Chinese food that I've ever had in Arizona. They take a while to prepare your food, but it is well worth the wait. For a reasonable price, you're getting some of the best Chinese food in the whole area. Their cumin lamb noodles are packed with Sichuan pepper spice and flavor, and have a Middle Eastern kick to it. Shaanxi Garden's food is like taking a trip to the Silk Road where China meets the Middle East and exchanged recipes and created this unique combination. This restaurant was a place my partner and I had always drove pass by and noticed it for its luring ambient lighting from the outside. So, we decided to stop and give it a try. As soon as we walked into the restaurant, the lighting changed to something almost bright, tables and chairs were basic and so was the place. Anyways, we were seated by a kind gentleman to where we wanted to sit. Not very long after, we were approached by our waitress who seemed pretty knowledgeable and knew what the restaurant was about. Like any other restaurant , first we were served our drinks then asked if we were ready to place in our orders. Without our waitress knowing it was our first time ordering some authentic southern and northern Chinese food. We were well informed about the menu and where the dishes originated nested from in China. I got to order a few appetizers which was their Calamari and hicken gizzards. The texture of the calamari was great however the dry rub seasoning was a little too much for me. Tje chicken gizzards were on point and I enjoyed those. The I had ordered one of their noodle bowls which came in a generous proportion and tasted good. Now my partner ordered herself their appetizer and dessert which she was satisfied. No complaints about that. Now I would've given this place 5 stars however, We didn't like how the waitress rolled her eyes back and smartly smirked when I being Asian asked for a fork. Without her knowing I had asked for my partner since it was for her appetizer. And last thing towards the end of their shift but the restaurant not closing for another hour or 2, we were asked to pay our checks and when we did, no one came to check up on us nor even bother to make sure if there was anything else we needed. Ambience above all. Even without the live music, this place just has a very calming, familiar feel to it. They did a great job on that. Service was enthusiastic and helpful, although did have to flag down for drink refills. Party of four ordered Beijing Beef, Orange Peel Chicken and Sesame Chicken. Thought the Beijing Beef was the absolute BEST I've ever tasted. The Orange Peel and Sesame Chicken both had tasty sauce, but the actual chicken itself was a little too dry/old tasting to get it again. My mouth literally hurt from the extra chewing exertion. Will stick to the beef and go back to hopefully catch the guqin player next time. read more

The worst customer service experience in a restaurant in US. When you usually go to the restaurants in the US and you don't like the food, you usually get apologies for not having your expectations met and you get a refund. But not here. We ordered #19 from dinner menu, chicken with chestnuts and noodles. On the photo, there were a lot of chicken, a lot of chestnuts, and a lot of noodles. That's it, no sauce. When we received the order, it was a red soup with surprising amount of potatoes (not in the picture), not much chicken, and a whole one chestnut. Some onions and peppers. A very few noodles were hiding in the sauce. Not like pictured at all. We ate a little, the most of the dish still was on the plate, but we didn't like it much to continue eating. I called the server and told her that we didn't like it. She wasn't very helpful and tried to argue that the dish was like pictured (which it wasn't) and tried to tell us that we ate too much to be refunded. Then the manager came in. He tried to argue that we ate 'too much chicken' and too much of the dish. The chicken in the dish had barely any meat on it, mostly bones. $22 for chicken bones. And no, the most of chicken was not eaten. We ate a third of the dish at the most. A third! In the most American restaurants in my experience, you get a refund and you order something else, even if you ate half of the food. But this manager gave us 'graciously' a discount. First, he was talking about 10 percent. After all the yelling and screaming, he gave us half off for that low-quality chicken dish. About the quality of food. I also had an egg roll and cream cheese wontons. They were served with a generic artificially bright red sauce like in cheap Chinese American restaurants. Egg roll was the same quality, wontons were low on filling and much worse than in those places. You are better off going to the cheap Chinese fast food joint; they are much cheaper and serve better food. It was very hot in the restaurant. It was a dinner time and sun was going down, but restaurant owners didn't account for that or rather were too cheap to turn on AC. read more

This Chinese restaurant has lost its initial short-termed reputation, which is the taste of their food and the reasonable price. It was the first time for us to go back to this restaurant yesterday since COVID pandemic. We ordered four entree dishes and two fast food style items (Chinese version Hamburger). Two of the four entree dishes were totally screwed-up. 地三鲜 and 京酱肉丝 are famous Chinese dishes but they made up something not even close. My wife talked to the waiter about this, he basically shrugged off. We spent nearly $100 for this meal and the experience is among the worst.
