Honestly, I'm surprised this place isn't busier (I've been here a couple times at peak dining hours and it fills up but only one half of the space). The prices are INCREDIBLY reasonable for what you get. You'd honestly get a mid meal at Disneyland for the same price; you get a lot of bucks for your bang here. That said, I wouldn't come expecting the most complex or flavorful broths (favorites are the Tom Yum, Beef, Miso; save urself from the Cajun lol) --they're good, just not the standout feature. TBH the sauces really help make it even better too. I also can't speak too much to the quality of the meats or the rest of the menu from a connoisseur's perspective (I've definitely had worse elsewhere), but everything we ordered felt fresh, enjoyable, and nothing raised any serious concerns. For $23 for the limited all-you-can-eat menu--or around $30-something for the premium option--it's honestly hard to complain. There are definitely higher-end hot pot restaurants with higher quality ingredients, but they also cost significantly more, and I personally found the value here much better. I'd rather enjoy a satisfying all-you-can-eat experience than spend the same amount on a much smaller meal elsewhere. The restaurant is largely self-serve, so don't expect traditional full-service dining. I feel like most Asian restaurants these days are less serviced and it's not a deterrent to me lol. That said, the staff were really nice. We were greeted by a very sweet employee who walked us through using the ordering tablet and even gave us recommendations for building our dipping sauce at the sauce bar, which made the experience easy for first-timers. Not sure what happened. Hot C Pot was our go to hot pot place. After our most recent experience, me thinks not. There was no wait upon arrival. They were able to accommodate our large party. They have 2 separate menus - regular and premium at a different price. Both sides of our table ordered the same 4broths. We tried each other's broths because we couldn't figure why ours was so so salty. We found that all our broths lacked consistency in flavor. Their tonkatsu broth was much saltier than ours. Our sukiyaki was more sweet than theirs, and our chicken was saltier than theirs. We had to cut our chicken broth with water to make it edible. When the server set our broths down, he didn't bother telling us which was which. I couldn't even stop him, he walked away so fast. Anytime I needed something like an extra bowl or scissors, flagging down a server was close to impossible. They all have tunnel vision it seems. I had to walk up to their server station and then they would just point over to a tub of plates and bowls and told me to just grab one. Weird. Our food options were ample and fresh, however the broths being so terrible made for a ruined dinner. Restaurant is still very clean and inviting. Service and food/broth consistency could really use improvement. Maybe they had a recent change of management? I totally understand that it's not necessary if you have enough servers. However the servers were just waiting for customers to place orders on the tablet which is exactly the same as a robot. Even refilling water, customers need to place an order on the tablet. Manager never showed up to the table to communicate with customers. How they can improve their service quality if they don't ask? China wears: Bowls look nice, but it is too small for pouring dipping sauce. It is for service small portions of appetizers? No pot or bowl for skimming the scum off. Customers have to use those small bowls for dipping sauce. it makes full quickly. Meat preparations: Thickness of meat is for BBQ, not for shabushabu. It takes long time for meat to be fully cook and it does make meat to be firm. Customers need to chew many time to eat. Prices were good for hot pot. You order most things (maybe everything) on an iPad so that's nice that you don't have to flag them down because service took quite some time. First, I came (before my party) and it was quite empty. I stood there waiting to even be acknowledged for literally 5-10 minutes. (There were a handful of tables already being served but no staff came by to say anything at all.) Then, when they finally asked how they can help, I checked in, told them someone from my party already called and made the reservation and they said they're working on it. But, we sit in the waiting area for another 20 minutes. Someone else from my party finally decided to ask if the table is ready and they guide us to it. My questions are why didn't they come get us? However much longer would we have waited? Should we have kept checking in periodically to get our table sooner? It was an upsetting start to the meal. I've been here two times trying to give this place the benefit of the doubt, and somehow it just keeps getting worse. Every time I come back there are fewer people inside, and honestly I'm not surprised anymore. This restaurant is horribly run. There are barely four employees working the entire place. Meanwhile there are empty tables everywhere and customers are waiting 20 minutes to sit because she physically cannot do it all at once. For $31 per person, this is embarrassing. This isn't the employees' fault. This is ownership being cheap and refusing to staff properly. The workers look exhausted. I would be too if I had to run around doing seven jobs at once while management sits back counting money. It's uncomfortable to even watch. You can see the frustration on their faces. The kitchen looks messy. The meat quality has gone downhill small, crumbly, broken pieces that look like scraps instead of proper cuts. It's unappetizing and honestly makes you question what you're paying for. And the tablets? Every single time I've come, they malfunction. Frozen screens, internet errors, orders not going through. I've watched the girl in the front stressed trying to reset them while juggling everything else. If your whole system depends on tablets, maybe make sure they actually work. Moved back to Fountain Valley and tried this place again after two years gap with my husband and 1-year-old son. I cannot express it any other way than "never coming back." First off, the sauce bar, the bows and plates, and the iPads were dirty and sticky. Had to ask for a different bowl b/c my bowl had some black streaks on it. The food quality went down. I get all the meat options are frozen but they looked like they were in the freezer for a month. The service was slow. They forgot my quail eggs on the first round of order. It was not busy at this time (only another 4 tables besides us) we managed to eat all the food on the first round of order but didn't order anymore. We chose the lunch menu which has very little options for meat: beef brisket & pork belly. Seafood options were okay, but portions were definitely small, so just make sure to order a lot from the beginning (long list it). Veggie options was typical, bok choy, cabbage watercrest, etc. Lunch came out to a total of $61.85 for both of us for weekday lunch. This includes 15% tip (tip your waiter/waitresses!). Overall the experience was okay.. customer service was just okay, nothing spectacular and it's not something we would crave for or put into rotation for dining experience. Went to this restaurant for a big party and had a very disappointing experience. They charged me for kids ages 2-4 even though their policy clearly states those ages are free. They also charged my 8-9 year olds as adults. I had to point it out, and they had to fix the receipt twice. I'm always open to going around town to try to find the best AYCE places, and a new option for hot pot is always welcome. Located close by to fan favorite Shaniya known for having the cheapest prices in the county, this spot distinguishes itself with its many options for soup bases and ordering off a tablet so you're not at the mercy of the servers to get your food. For some that may be a feature in itself, even if it can be not the most engaging experience. As a solo diner, only being able to select two soups was a real bummer as I really was looking forward to trying more. I don't know if this is policy or if it was just how I was treated, as there's minimal data points in other reviews for the solo dining experience. Not great, but not the largest detractor. The options for lunch are limited, though that's to be expected, but it did feel like it got boring fast compared to other places. The vegetable selection is excellent however. Some reviews mentioned sparkling water being free but I didn't see that as an option. I might seem a little down based on this review and I'm admittedly a bit harsh, but I am looking forward to revisiting and potentially adding it to my regular rotation as it's located next to the amazing Sip. For sure my favorite AYCE hot pot place, as there is usually very minimal wait for a table, the quality of the food is great, and the food comes out quickly. You order on the small iPad at each table, which is convenient because you can order as much as you want any time you want, and you don't have to wait for someone to come around and take your order. The broth selection is nice and you pick up to four. I usually get the mala, tonkatsu, dashi, and tom yum. The meat and veggie selection is nice, and the portions that come with each order is great. I also like how you can get as many quail eggs as you want. They also have a great sauce bar where you can make your own sauce. I also opt for the brisket sauce and put jalapeno and extra extra garlic in it. The only small nit-picks I have is that wish the sauce dishes were a little bigger and deeper. I also wish they put more than one set of ladles at each table, only because that would allow for more than one person to be serving themselves. I do end up asking an additional set of ladles from the staff, but since they don't come around too often due to the self-service nature of the place, it sometimes takes some time to ask them. A quick walkthrough or even a printed guide at the table would go a long way. Also -- the restroom had a strong sewer odor before I left, which really dampened the end of the visit. I don't want to leave a bad review because I genuinely think this place has potential, and I think I would enjoy it with better guidance. But as a first experience, I left disappointed and honestly hesitant to return. If staff made it a point to help new customers navigate the experience, I think this place would earn a lot more loyal customers. All you can eat with all day happy hour beer. $31/pp, alcohol is additional. The four broths we chose were Tom yom, schezuan, dashi and tonkatsu. Meats and veggies are ordered from an iPad and it come out pretty quick. The sauce bar was clean however the house sauce had an unappetizing green hue to it. This place has been on our list for a while but unfortunately will not be back. Came for lunch on a weekday and decided to get dinner pricing so we can get all they had to offer. Lunch price only comes with one beef cut - the toughest one. Liked that there was a tablet to order everything from broth to meats to drinks. Made it really convenient and orders came out really fast. Lots of broth choices with up to 4 per pot. We got 8 broths but the only memorable one was the mala spice. The rest were pretty lacking/forgettable. Meats were so lacking. We're used to Shabuya meats that are fresh sliced and it was so painfully obvious they're using frozen meat rolls here. The meat was so low quality and tough unless you get the fattier cuts like pork belly and toro. Honestly after a couple pieces of meat, I knew I wouldn't be coming here again. Highlights were the fish balls with roe and shrimp that are peeled! The shrimp were a decent size. Sauce bar just had the basics, nothing special. read more
