I've been to Shabu shack many many times & I'll be honest, at first I didn't quite like it. However I kept finding myself coming back again and again. I'm not quite a big fan of creamy broths/Tonkatsu flavors, but I can't get enough of it! My go tos are the Kobe beef, beef belly & Tonkatsu broth. I keep finding things that I enjoy that maybe I didn't try before or didn't think I would like for example; I LOVE the spinach and ramen even though I never initially ordered or used those items. The service is usually really great! Ive had a couple times where it's been busy and the staff seem to be chatty to other tables or each other. Though it usually is nothing too crazy and if I have a question or would like to order more, they are able to come over to help. It can get pricey but I think it's to be expected given the quality of the food. Lunch prices are great & I love how they are open during the lunch time! read more

Worth the try: can't go wrong with choosing any broth or meat that sounds good to you! Tip: You can ask for two broths and they'll give you a split pot! Bonus tip: Make sure they give you dipping sauces for your meat, they forgot ours last time. Spicy Sichuan: a spicy broth, mild is already fairly spicy so be cautious! Like that it's not toooo oily. Miso: a nice light broth made from fermented soybeans and salt (you should be familiar with miso soup), not too salty. Beef Belly Toro: thinly sliced pieces of fatty beef, so yummy! Premium Lamb: thinly sliced pieces of lamb, doesn't taste gamey at all. Fish Balls with Roe: my usual go-to add on! This place gets it right, unlike some other restaurants where I've been disappointed with their fish balls with roe. Potstickers: nothing super impressive. Note that these aren't fried and you'll have to boil them! PARKING: Huge plaza parking lot in front. Shouldn't be an issue. SERVICE: Service was attentive and sure to get us everything we needed. They forgot a couple things but nothing a friendly reminder can't fix. I've been wanting to try this new shabu place ever since it opened in town, and I finally got to go with my family. Shabu Shack was my first experience with hot-pot and it was quite delightful. If you've never done hot-pot before, then come to Shabu Shack for your first time. The service is wonderful and pricing economical. Essentially, you cook your own broth soup with selected meat and veggies. Being a meat lover, I figured that's all I would concentrate but the vegetables are filling and taste great when cooked in the broth and dipped in the soy or peanut sauces. What I love: The dipping sauces add so much flavor that I could drink them alone! The meats are great having tried them all, the cheapest beef is just as good as the most expensive. The veggies are awesome and this meat-lover has even gone back to do the vegetarian plate only! The service has always been very good to great depending on how busy they are. Never bad. Came around opening on a Sunday & it was not too busy yet. It started to pick up after noon. We were a party of 8 so we were given 2 tables. In the 2 tables we had there were 4 burners total. It made eating together easy since 2 of us shared one pot each. This place isn't AYCE so I would recommend ordering the combo meal for $100 that feeds about 4-5 people. The price is equivalent to each person choosing their own meat option. Ordering individually gets you about 5oz of meat for the M size and about 8oz for the L size. If you are a smaller party I would order individually. The combo meal includes a bit more of food items, veggies, & a fun meat presentation. You also get 2 soup options. If you like spicy, you should order the Sichuan spicy! The spice level medium has a good kick if you have a high tolerance for spice. Tonkatsu broth was pretty nice, not as creamy though. After seeing my good friend post this place I knew I had to try it! Decided to have a dinner day with my friend Lisa on a weekday so she could show me the ropes as I have never eaten at such an extraordinary place like shabu shack. Let me start by saying the ambiance was great I really felt like the place was cozy and comfy af. She ran through the menu with me and I left it up to her to order whatever she desired. As always we talked our way though a 3 hour dinner experience and I must say it was immaculate. The broths were incredible and I really loved how each person controls their meats to their liking. I can't not remember for the life of me what she ordered but here's a terribly rushed photo as I was too excited to get my angles right and wanted to just dive in. Came here on a Friday night during soft opening, and we came just in time before the rush. Super excited that another shabu spot has opened up in Elk Grove. The decor for this restaurant is so cute, vibrant, and bright. I love it compared to the other shabu spots, who always have dim lighting. Finally a shabu restaurant in Elk Grove. As a fellow shabu/hot pot fan who usually does AYCE, I was a little bummed this wasn't AYCE. BUT! I thought to myself..... it might be better quality with meat and broth since it isn't AYCE. At least it was what I was hoping for, and I was not disappointed. I saw the menu and it was straight to the point as well as being around the same price point as Swish54 that is near Elk Grove. Everything is pretty much ordered separately and all charged separately. But there is a Shabu Combo for $100. It fed three of us. I thought it was a pretty good deal considering the prices for each individual plate. It came with three choices of meat. The Wagyu is of course a side order and not a part of the Shabu Combo we ordered. We did two ramen two rice but should have done all ramen. They let you choose 4. Two large veggies. One seafood of choice and we did shrimp. Two broths. And it was amazing! We did the pork belly- it was long pieces with the perfect amount of fat and also the perfect thickness. Lamb- a little gamey for me but still good if dipped in enough sauce. Kobe beef- very very good. It's cut pretty thin. And we ordered an extra side of Wagyu. MELT in MY MOUTH like BUTTER!!!!! Worth it. Spiciness of our broth- it was actually spicier than most places would make it. Impressed, but not spicy enough for us. We asked for all the spicy they could give us. They have us the powder and the chili oil, it was more for flavor and it spicy at all. Then she brought out the oil dropzzzzz.... Omg! Perfect!! Had them drop it in our soup and in our two different sauces. Ahmaaazziinngg. I would definitely recommend trying. It is pricey for not AYCE but it is paying for quality of food. So this is good for once in a while splurge. I can do hot pot at home but it's nice being able to not have to prepare everything. Ya get what ya pay for. My husband wanted to come here for lunch but I wanted L &L next door bc the kids would not eat hot pot but stubborn him said to eat here so we did. We ordered the pork and American Kobe. The meat were sliced super thin where you literally can see through the meat. A guess a plus side on that is that it cooks faster. Each order came with a bowl of veggies. We opted for rice and vermicelli (more like glass noodles). If you wanted Udon it would be an extra $2. For the broth we had tonkatsu and miso. Both soups were okay. We've had better tonkatsu at other places where the soup was buttery and sweet. The dipping sauce was meh. The garnish (green onions and garlic) need to be chopped more finely. We also tried the American Kobe which you can never go wrong with at shabu! For broths we tried the tonkatsu and spicy miso. Highly suggest adding the hot drops to your broth and dipping sauce. you can also ask for chili oil on the side too! I do wish they had enoki mushrooms and free refills on cabbage because those are my favs but it's ok! This is one of my go to places in Elk Grove when I want something hearty. I like their vegetarian creamy soy based broth. I also like the Tom Yum broth which is spicy. This is our third time eating at Shabu Shack. I did not review them the first two times I was here. My husband and I really enjoy coming here. They are consistent with their food. There meat and veggies are always fresh. The service they provide is pretty consistent too. The food comes out in a timely manner. The server checks on us a few time to see if we need anything. The staff are very friendly. I ordered the Miso soup broth and my husband ordered the Tonkatsu broth. We order a large plate of pork and a large plate of the Angus beef to share. The dinner comes with a bowl of veggies and a starch. My husband got the rice and I wanted the rice noodles. We sat at the bar. We each had our own stove burner at the bar. So our soups came separately in a pot. If you sit at the table they would only one stove burner and the pot will have a divider in the middle to have two soups in one pot. We like sitting at the bar. There is a lot more space to place the food. So far the times we have been there for dinner, we have been lucky. They were able to sit us in a timely manner. We had to wait 30 mins for us to get seated this time around. The staff said the restaurant has been getting busier. They do not take reservations. It's first come, first serve. I have passed this place a few times and wanted to try. So for my niece graduation we decided to give this a try. Staff were super nice and very helpful with selections. Place seems clean and not busy at all. Tables are super small for all that we had, there was barely any room for our platters of raw meats, rice or even a place for us to have our food once's cooked. I was not a total fan of sauces already on the table before arriving and walking through the restaurant I saw in every table, not sure how long those been on table and thank goodness I saw no flies in the restaurant but doesn't seem sanitary. I like that we can have 2 different types of soup in one pot but over time my spicy sauce went into my nieces sauce which made hers spicy as well. I wasn't fully impressed with this place and even though it wasn't the best I have come to realize that I am just not a fan of hotpot. Came to Shabu Shack with friends when it first opened. We came when at the beginning of dinner time, so it wasn't packed yet. We were really excited to try a new hot pot place, but we were pretty upset when we found out it wasn't all you can eat. We ordered the Shabu Combo Special which is $100 without tax. The presentation is pretty nice, however it really isn't a lot. There was four of us and although we weren't starving still at the end, we really had to eat slowly and be more conscious and were not able to grub. The food was good, but for the pricing, you can get all you can eat elsewhere for the same price. The service was okay. Because they just recently opened, I can cut a little of slack, but a lot of mistakes were made. For example, the special comes with two large veggies plates and we had to ask the server about bringing them out because they totally forgot about it. In addition, no one came back to ask how we were doing or if we needed anything else. So overall, it was decent but not my favorite hot pot place in the area. Really wished they did AYCE! read more

We came her around 8PM on a Friday night. It was a family new hot pot place and we wanted to what the hype was about. As we entered, a gentleman knew right away that we were the party of 8. We were seated at our table but a couple of chairs were missing while they could pull chairs from a different area to provide to us. The restaurant was quite busy but we received attentive service right from the start. He took our order shortly after and remember our entire order without The gentleman did not write down any of our request amd was accurate with our entire order. When our food arrived, we were pleasantly surprised by the amount of food was included. We received plenty of noodles, rice, 2 meat rounds, and sauce dishes. My boyfriend and I stopped by on a Monday during lunch time and were surprised to see that it wasn't busy at all! We rushed over so we could do their AYCE menu but now they offer it everyday, before they just offered it on weekdays. For our broth we ordered tonkotsu and spicy tonkotsu. Personally, we don't think the broth tasted much like tonkotsu but it was still good. The meat quality was good as well! We noticed that their ponzu didn't taste like ponzu at all, it just tasted like soy sauce which was super disappointing to us. Aside from the tonkotsu not tasting authentic and the ponzu not tasting like ponzu, everything else was good. Honestly, the main highlight was the service! Tom yum broth has some type of strong tamarind instant powder taste similar to sinigang sour soup packet. Ramen noodles = instant noodles. Get the udon/rice. Got real excited to see that they opened a shabu/hot pot place next to Journey and so we gave it a try. Our biggest complaint and point of customer dissatisfaction was that the blade calibration on their meat slicer is so thin that a single piece of cooked meat can't even be held by your chopsticks. You have to lump up several slices (cooked meat) together just to have something to hold onto. It's one thing to sell exceptionally high quality meat and to shrinkflate it thin but their meat quality here is a 7 at best. So why would you cut medium grade quality meat so thin? We have a 2 year old and a 4 year old and they finished 2 large trays of kobe and angus meat by themselves with 2 bowls of rice. $50 to feed a 2 year old and a 4 year old??? So all in all, Mom and Dad ended up eating elsewhere bc we didn't want to extend our disappointment any further. The silver lining here were the attentive waitresses who kept checking in on us. Wish I could say that we'd be back but there are too many deterring factors. read more

Meat quality was very good and so was the broth. The only downside is that the restaurant's physical space wasn't designed to exhaust all of the steam and makes the atmosphere/air not very pleasant. Super excited to update my review because I had a great experience here this time around! I came with three other people and we ordered the Shabu Combo. It's $100 for two soups, three meats, two plates of veggies, two sides of your choice, and then four bowls of rice or noodles. I wasn't sure if it would be enough but it was actually just the right amount. The girls were full and the guys who are big eaters were just right. I think if you come with all big eaters then three people would be better, but the combo is definitely ideal for 3-4 people (too much for 2 people and not enough for 5 people). We were seated at a table with two burners and they even brought us two separate pots of soup which was awesome! We could've picked 4 broths total but ended up sticking with the same two broths in each pot. I didn't think they'd do that but it made it much easier to split between two people on each burner, instead of all four of us in one pot. I loved the udon noodle option, and I liked the fish balls with roe. We also ordered the fries on the side for our son and we actually really enjoyed them too - they were like McDonald's fries! Service was much better this time around too. Two different people were helping us and they checked on us often and helped adjust our burners. I'm also giving extra points because they had several high chairs available so I'm all about any kid friendly place. We got the American Kobe and Premium pork with a bowl of udon and ramen. We loved especially the American Kobe and got a second round of that! I love how vegetables came with the meats.
