This is my 2nd time coming here both times with my cousin. I love that they have a private lot and there is plenty of parking, even on a busy day you can find a spot. You may have to walk a little bit. I parked in front of Below 5 degrees and I thought it was a good spot. We arrived at 11:30 when they opened. I got there a little early and sat in their bistro set they have set out front. At exactly 11:30 when I went to the door they opened the door for me and thanked me for waiting. When I entered they offered me one of the booths. The boots are nicer then the tables, they are larger and allows you to spread out and somewhere to put your purse while eating. The heating unit is set into the tabes. Some of the tables have table top heating units that sit on the table. We both ordered the creamy vegetable broth. They still divide the pot so we can each fish out our food as it cooks. I'm glad it's separated it. It makes it easier to let your food cook and not get it mixed up with your table mates. We ordered the Waygu American and Lamb. The Wagyu reminded me of the pork belly, both had a lot of fat. I think I'll stick with the pork belly next time as it's cheaper and it tastes the same to me. I was sadly disappointed as Wagyu meat has gotten so much hype. Maybe the Japanese Waygo would have been better, but it was too pricy for me. I love the bowel of veggies they give you. My favorites are the pumpkin and spinach. Next is the mushrooms and tofu and cabbage. They have big slices of Napa cabbage. My cousin gets the vermicelli and I get the rice. She's on a gluten free diet so the vermicelli is a fancy way to not eat gluten. Overall this is a fun place to hang out with your girlfriends over a good meal. read more

Shabu Shack is definitely one of my favorite hot pot places around. The quality of the meat really stands out compared to the other places around the area. The broths are incredibly tich and full of depth, and honestly, they have some of the richest broths around. The service was extremely fast and the two servers we had that day were super kind and attentive. Overall, I would say Shabu Shack has some of the best quality meat, broth, and service out of the other AYCE hot place around. I would highly recommend giving it a try! read more

Great location with good parking. There was no wait when I came in and was seated immediately. Service was great, waiters where attentive and very nice. Restaurant was clean. I ordered the AYCE and got Tom yum, tonkotsu and creamy vegetarian broth. Tom yum and tonkotsu were good, nothing special from other shabu places. I really liked the creamy vegetarian broth - the flavor of the broth develops after adding sides and protein options. The meat was good. Nothing special about the American wagyu. I liked the beef belly and angus beef. Adding fresh garlic and green onions to your dipping sauces is a must. There is a limited selection of sides - needs more variety like other mushrooms, quail eggs, and fried tofu to start. I'll be back! read more

Had been wanting to check Shabu Shack out! Tried the AYCE option B for $35. We got the miso & tonkatsu broths. Servers were nice but service was pretty slow. They didn't really check in on us to put in more orders or refill waters. I've had other shabu and hot pot places, so this might be my least favorite that I've tried in the area. We came here for a late lunch and were seated within 2 minutes. There were plenty of seats on the left side of the restaurant, but we were given a small table for two. I thought about asking to be moved since the table was too small for all our food, but I noticed the nearby booth wasn't cleaned yet. It stayed that way for about 40 minutes, likely because there was only one server at the time. The server was friendly and provided good service. My husband and I decided to forgo waiting for a table at Journey to dine here. I've honestly been wanting to come here for some time now and I'm disappointed it took me as long as it did. We opted for the AYCE shabu menu because mama didn't raise no fools. Also, we were pretty hungry and it made sense. We mainly stayed with the American wagyu, but we also had angus (it was okay), the lamb (my husband liked it), and belly toro. Soups we had kombu, spicy miso, and tonkatsu. Others, we had udon (next time 100% going with ramen), veggies, one bowl of rice, and a raw egg each. Otherwise, my mind was focused on that American Wagyu. We also opted for the AYCD beer because, again, mama didn't raise no fools. I'd definitely go again. They do offer a premium AYCE menu that offered A5 wagyu, but if need go know what the limits are on that because I can definitely put away my weight in A5, otherwise, American Wagyu is just fine for me. read more

Wow so disappointed in our dinner last night. The beef had a long gristle line in it and when you cooked it was terrible. I told the waitress about it and another server but nothing was done. Kind of just shrugged me off. The rice was old to. Thank god i got some sake to make me feel better. Really bad night I guess. Usually the meat is of good quality but not tonight. First time trying Hot Pot! I was very excited because they had something vegetarian to try. I got to explore it with a friend and we both absolutely enjoyed it.. I got the creamy vegetarian, it comes with a lot of veggies (cabbage, carrots, mushrooms, tofu, spinach and you have a choice to pick from (vermicelli noodles, ramen or rice) and I got ramen. We added garlic and the broth itself was just satisfying. I would have given 5 star but I wish it had couple more options for vegetarians, instead of just one. The service was also great! Came with my boyfriend for lunch, which is cheaper than the dinner by $2 for each selection of meat. They have a selection of soup bases and meats (medium or large), which comes with a grain (rice or vermicelli), assorted vegetables, and two dipping sauces (one being a tangy soy sauce and the other a sweet soybean paste). You can ordered other items a la carte. The decor is cute with fake cherry blossoms hanging around their lights, an aesthetic neon light sign, and a wall mural along the dining area. We went around lunch which was decently busy but only had one server staffed - he was literally running around trying to get to everyone seated or give them their order. I went with my boyfriend and were seated at a two-seat table, but it gets cramped when all the food arrives. The space is well-ventilated but you still end up stinking of hotpot. I ordered the large american kobe beef with the tonkotsu soup base. The beef is pretty good quality, sliced thinly and didn't have any signs of frostbite. The soup was rich and creamy. The selection of veggies was ok, they had the standard napa cabbage and spinach. Adding anything to the broth creates a lot of foam which I end up skimming off. The rice was dried out, so I added the (now cleared up) soup to it as a congee to remedy it. read more

This Shabu style restaurant is simply the best! The American Waygu and Beef Belly Toro are high grade beef and the dipping sauces (miso and shoyu) escalate the flavors to another level. My friends and I were craving hotpot/shabu shabu around the Elk Grove area. I'm really glad this place opened! Really clean interior, attentive service, and everything was good! We got the spicy tonkotsu and Szechuan broth with kobe beef. I highly recommend the tonkotsu broth! Nice amount/complexity of savory flavor. Actually stumbled upon Shabu Shack by accident! It was my very first time having Japanese hot pot and had a good time! I went with two friends and we split the Shabu Combo Special which was $100 for two broths, three choices of meat, two veggie plates, 4 rice or noodles, and two sides. We went on a Sunday night and waited about 30 minutes so not too bad. I loved how they displayed the meat around the soup, looked very aesthetic. Everything was very fresh as well. I wasn't a huge fan of the potstickers as I thought they'd be more like gyoza versus potstickers you put into the broth. Definitely recommend the Combo Special for groups of 3-4! read more

Came here to celebrate my birthday on the weekend. I should of checked the menu before, they don't do AYCE on the weekends. So we order the meal set for a table of 6 and order 3 more plates of meat after and felt satisfied. The quality was definitely very good. Something interesting we noticed while there was nobody was eating the veggies but we finished all of ours. My least favorite shabu place, which is unfortunate because it's the closest to me (and I loovvee shabu). It costs the same as other shabu places, but you don't get any ice cream. And, the flavors aren't nearly as good. They also don't offer AYCE like the competition. Instead they have the $100 option (where the meat is served on that big, round wooden ring around the broth). Not sure how comparable that is to AYCE because it all depends on how many people you're sharing with.. they don't seem to provide as much broth either, but they did give free refills (which other places would charge). Pork tasted weird to me, I wouldn't recommend. Also, it was extremely fatty (I prefer leaner meat). Service needs work. They don't have assigned tables, it's just a free for all so they could all be checking on you or not at all. One guy, wearing a headband, watching my partner pour water from my cup into his cup but we still had to ask for a refill. The place is small, but aesthetic. Parking can be a little difficult to find since there are so many restaurants in that corner of the parking lot, but you'll definitely find a spot (just have to walk farther). Shabu Shack is another great addition to the popular shopping center on the corner of Laguna and Bruceville. It's bright and spacious inside with a variety of tables, including bar seating. My husband and I were greeted and seated immediately with menus. Like other Japanese Shabu places, the menu had sections: choice of broth, entree selections, and options for rice or noodles. They also had appetizers and sides plus a decent selection of sake! What they didn't have was an all-you-can-eat option but we were satisfied with the large portions of American Kobe and Beef Belly Toro. Both were sliced really thinly so only a few short seconds were needed in the rolling broth to have super tender bites of beef! We tried Spicy Sichuan broth and Tonkotsu broth. While I liked both broths, I preferred the Tonkotsu - it was delicious and even more flavorful after adding fresh chopped garlic and chopped green onions (both of which were on the table in small jars). Our entrees came with a good sized-bowl of tofu and veggies (spinach, Napa cabbage, carrots, kabocha pumpkin, mushrooms). And, they also provided a dish of soy sauce and creamy sauce (miso-mayo, perhaps?) - which was straight-up addictive with the slices of beef. Overall, it was a great experience at Shabu Shack. Our waitress was sweet and she checked up on us regularly. We were running low on our broth and she made sure to add more broth and not just hot water (which sometimes happens at other Shabu or hot pot places).
