I am so glad they opened a location on the west side so I don't have to drive to Ala Moana anymore. I came here on a week day with my family for lunch. We were able to put our name on the yelp waitlist prior to arriving which allowed us to get seated upon arrival. We got the lunch AYCE special for $22.99. I got the tonkotsu broth (my fav). We were allowed to order 8 meats per order for our party size (3). There were limited appetizer and meat options due to the special but i can't complain for the price paid. For the most part our server was attentive. We utilized the 90 minutes to the max and left full! Definitely will be back the next time I visit family! read more

This is a follow-up to my previous visit, and I'm happy to report that things have definitely improved since the first time I came here. First off, mahalo to Tyrone for taking great care of us during our return visit. He was attentive, fast, and really helped make the experience smooth from the moment we sat down. The biggest highlight this time around? The meats came out super fast. That's a huge improvement from our last visit, where we waited quite a bit. Not only that, but the seafood and vegetable selection also seemed larger and fresher this time, another big plus. The wait time overall was much better too. Last time, there were only a few parties ahead of us and the wait felt long. This time, there were 11 parties ahead of us, but somehow, we were seated quicker than expected. Once we sat down, Tyrone came by right away, took our order, and before we knew it boom! Our drinks and meats were already coming out. I really appreciate Shabuya for taking customer feedback seriously. That tells me they actually care about what their customers are saying, and more importantly, they're willing to make changes based on it. Super nice and clean! Service in Christmas Eve was outstanding. Attentive and quick delivery of your meats order. Dinner was AYCE for 32.95. Lots of meat selections, broth selections and appetizers. Just be warned that you may order 6 meat sections at a time but, portions are about 4-6 very thin slices but, it's all you can eat. The Tonkotsu and original broth were delicious and many choices on the vegetable buffet along with noodles, seafood, and sauces to choose from. My family goes to shabuya frequently in California so when my hubby found one near Oahu we had to go. Unfortunately, getting one of the worst food poisoning has made me not want to return. I am not sure from what but there were flies near the buffet especially by the seafood section & just walking on the windows. Maybe it's the food handlers and lack of proper hygiene (blah). Plenty of parking (always a plus), and honestly, I love this location because no need to drive all the way to town! They even have an outdoor seating area and a bar you can sit at too, which is super convenient especially when it's super busy. We came on a Sunday night and the place was PACKED. We ended up waiting about an hour--there were big groups ahead of us (like parties of 13 and even 29 ). I was getting nervous they'd turn us away since they close at 10pm and we were still waiting, but the hosts said us that as long as you're on the list before closing, they'll seat you. We got seated around 9:30pm. Inside was clean, and spacious. The bathroom was clean too but only 1 stall had toilet paper. Good thing I checked before I used the bathroom. I also want to give a shoutout to Kaili who took care of us that night. Even though it was crazy busy, she still checked in on us, made sure we had everything we needed, and our food came out super fast. She was so friendly and helpful! Residents and visitors alike arrive in droves. Form a single line outside. An employee will step outside, greet you, ask how many in your party, first name, and phone number. You're able to check status and number on wait list via Yelp. We're third on wait list and received text that our table was ready in 8 mins. We walked in and showed text to hostess in the front. We're immediately seated. My husband and son ordered miso broth. I ordered original house broth. We all enjoyed cooking our own foods in individual pot(s) and maintaining digital temperature at our own pace. Loved how we're able to control the temperature digitally for each burner. We're seated in a booth that can comfortably fit six people. There's also seating at the bar area. Allowed to order max 8 premium meats at a time. We chose U.S. Wagyu Sirloin Tip, Premium Rib Eye and Prime Flat Iron Steak. These premium meats barely had any fat and provided ample amounts of protein. My faves were blue crab, swai fillet, spinach noodles thick and thin, quail eggs, triangle shape and circular fish cakes, wood ear mushrooms, and kai choy, soy glazed chicken karaage. Modern ambiance, open concept with earthy and warm tones. There are separate restrooms for men and women. I can only speak for women's' restroom which has a modern interior design, place your hand(s) under liquid soap and Dyson air dryers. Although this location was temporarily out of kabocha which didn't arrive with produce during usual shipment, takoyaki, vegetable and fish tempura for today, I rather have outstanding customer service, clear communication and dining experience. We're checked often to see how our food(s) tasted, refills on beverages, broth, izakaya items, removed empty trays and bowls. Shabuya has finally opened on the West Side! This is probably one of the greatest restaurant that could have replaced the old Outback lot. And you can tell it's gonna stay for long! It's only open from 3pm-10pm. Will most likely change in the future to open during lunch time. They take reservations through Yelp or by simply typing "Shabuya Kapolei" on Google, and it will pop up the waitlist. Waitlist said 12-20 mins when we first looked and rapidly turned into 25-45 mins in literally a span of 10 mins. We were 18th in the waitlist and waited for over an hour for a table. With all the hype and it being a new restaurant be expected to wait and have patience. This place is big and definitely renovated and filled the spots nicely with their tables and bar area. Once we were seated we were greeted by our server. We ordered our 8 meats including takoyaki and chicken karaage. Sukiyaki broth is my fave! Meats taste great with the goma sauce. Only con that I know in the future will get better is how fast or slow service is. Service was on the slower side with us finishing our meats and waiting for our server to come back or trying to find him to flag him down for more meats. I went on the second day of opening and I was actually surprised about how well it went. Typically, restaurants are slower because they are still training their employees and I expected hiccups. However, I was blown away. We got in the line right before they opened and you can add your name to the tablet they have outside or do it through yelp. Once they opened, we were seated right away and our server showed up soon after to take our drink and food orders. We ordered the following: Takoyaki - pretty basic item you could get anywhere that sells them. Soy Glazed Chicken Karaage- Very good. Crispy, juicy and tender! And very flavorful Curry Rice - great flavor but dont expect huge chunks of veggies or meat. I suggest cooking the meat that comes with the AYCE and add it over your rice. Tonkatsu & Original Broth - pretty standard flavor you'd expect. Not exceptional, but does the job with the right price For meats, we just got all the beef options and it was great. It was fresh, didnt have any off coloring or smell to it. The restaurant is spacious and clean. The AYCE bar with the select seafood (mussels, shrimp, crab), assorted fish cake, assorted noodles and rice cake, and assorted vegetables are pretty much the same as the Ala Moana location. The sauce bar was also the same. The service was again, exceptional. Any time our plates would be empty, they would be quick with picking it up. If the broth was half empty, they'd come and fill it back up. When someone would spill sauce at the sauce station, there would be someone right there to wipe it up. Honestly one of the best Shabuya locations in HI & CA! Mahalo to the service provided by Michael, Kaika and Jacob. They were fantastic! Kaika was very friendly and had a beautiful smile every time. Michael our main server knew our order after the 1st one. Jacob although quite was friendly bringing our meats and explaining each time which cut it was. The Yelp wait system is perfect and on a Friday we were seated within 20 minutes. Make sure all your party is there to be seated. Finally, a Shabuya on the West Side, and it delivers! We visited the new Shabuya in Kapolei today for their grand opening, and honestly, I think it's better than the Ala Moana location in every way. First off, the place is immaculate. From the moment you walk in, you can tell the staff is on top of it. They were very well staffed too for it being day 1 (ish). Clean tables, organized stations, and that classic darker vibe that feels both clean and welcoming. We did wait about an hour and some change... but despite how busy they were, the service was next level. The servers were so attentive. Our empty dishes vanished before we even realized we were done with them. Not once did we feel cluttered or neglected. So the food - The broth options were classic and delicious, and the meats were beautifully sliced, fresh, and well-stocked. The vegetable and sauce bar was clean, fully stocked, and easy to navigate. Sometimes at Ala Moana you can be a bit squished moving through the line. I noticed more variety here than I remember seeing at Ala Moana, especially when it came to the pupus. I also appreciated how the space feels more open and less chaotic than Ala Moana. It's easier to enjoy your meal and actually have a conversation without yelling over the crowd. Their tables are bigger (some booths had 6+ burners) and they have way bigger table options for large groups. Shabuya Kapolei is a huge win for West Oʻahu. If you're a shabu shabu lover (or even just curious), this location sets a new bar. Great service, high-quality food, and a relaxing atmosphere. We told staff that it didn't seem fair because we were sitting outside in front of the restaurant for 30 minutes and were only seated when we were because we asked the status of our wait and they told us they forgot about us (again, party of nine, standing in front of the restaurant outside waiting to be seated). All the while staff kept making eye contact with us throughout the 30 minutes of our wait, so unsure how they could have "forgotten" about us. Waste of a commute and unfortunately had to forgo our mom's dinner plans tonight as a result. ZERO out of 5 stars for the staff's HORRIBLE attitude and customer service. read more

We went to the Ala Moana location couple weeks ago, but the kids were craving hot pot again -n- we were on the west side. We did NOT know there was a Shabuya in Kapolei. Our check in experience was kinda junk cuz I joined the waitlist, we were waiting for over an hour (past the time it said our table would be ready), then got kicked out when we were #6 in line. When we were trying to check in with the host, it was confusing because there was 2 areas when you walk in the door - one open kinda bar looking area -n- then the area when you actually go in the restaurant. But there's a glass door kinda separating it with the sign that points to check in, which could be for both areas. We were waiting in the first area because there was a few people in front of us checking in there. Then when it was our turn, while we waited for the host to come back, we were the only ones in that area, -n- everyone who came in after us bypassed us, basically cutting in front of us, to go in the restaurant side to check in with the other host -n- they got seated first. We had to wait another 1/2 hour to get seated. Whe we finally got seated our server was super nice, friendly, -n- engaging! He made conversation -n- joked around with us. Food was good as always! We ordered a carafe of the lychee yogurt soju -n- that was super refreshing -n- delicious. The place was cleaner than the Ala Moana location -n- definitely less busy once you get seated. I see so many reviews here that are also concerned about the kids pricing. The business owner is saying, you will relay this concern to the business operation but no change has been made. Will it ever change? I think changing the price by age group makes better sense than going based off of the height of children. Children don't even eat half the amount of food being paid for at the price of $32.99. What a waste. This is how businesses shut down. I mean, this side of the island is all about AYCE! Our wait was around 20-30 minutes. I thought that was pretty good. We went on a holiday for lunch so had to pay regular dinner price. They are super busy, so when the server comes around, ORDER THE MAX they allow. I learned you can even order a different broth. Parking is all over the place. The lot will usually be full, but you can find parking. Food was okay. The broth had a nice flavor. Of course I had to taste everyone else's and all were good. Good selection of proteins and veggies. Here is what I enjoyed the most. Bruh.... RAW CRAB. It was soooo tasty. I will return just for this, and bring Hawaiian salt and chili peppah wattah. My friend and I went for the lunch hour and it was very crowded but we were sat pretty quickly. When we ordered you were allowed to select 4 meats and 2 appetizers. I assume with more people you would be able to select more. The buffet style selection seemed endless. There were tons of seafood, veggies and sauces. Our server was lollipop and she was great. The food was great. I've never been to this location before and it was my first time. I've always gone to the Ala Moana location without a problem. The service was terrible! Me and my friends went there for dinner with their 1 year old. It was also her first birthday but she was asleep in the stroller without a problem. She slept through the whole thing even though it was noisy in there. It wasn't until a bunch of the servers gathered up to wish the table next to us a happy birthday and one of them was banging a pot right next to the baby's head in her huge black baby stroller that you can't miss. We get it, this place can get a little loud but directly banging a pot right next to a baby stroller is a lack of self awareness no? The server also did not check on us for 20-30 mins and when he came back he had the audacity to tell us this is our last round because he needs to close us out. He asked my friend if she wanted another Diet Coke and he never came back with it. We got food before we were even served water. He poured our broth and then said he will be back after he gets the other table drinks lol all while we still didn't have drinks ourselves? He gave us the check while we were still eating and then came back shortly after to collect payment. That was the most we seen of our server lol. read more
