My mom is a big fan of shabu so I brought her here. She definitely liked it. She traveled often to Japan in the past and she said this place really reminded her of the food there. We both got the miso broth, i got the spicy version. Unlike a lot of other places, you can really taste the miso flavor. The meats were also good quality, much better than some of the other shabu places i have tried over the years. My favorites were the beef belly and the number 8. Mom preferred the seafood, shrimp, clams and muscles. Needless to say it was a hit with both my mom and myself. We will both definitely be back. read more

The restaurant and restroom are always clean and tidy, so there won't be messy floors, or sticky tables & seats -- which is amazing since they are always packed. I must say... As much as I was thinking that it wasn't going to be as good as Ala Moana's location, they definitely proved me wrong. This is my husbands absolute favorite "soup" restaurant. We got here around 7:30ish for dinner and it was BUSY. We got seated in the booth area and our server came pretty quick to take our orders. The food area was filled in the buffet area and that was nice to see. Our server was pretty on it always asking if we needed any meats or sides. We had some issues with checking in and being taken off the waiting list... But they were able to figure it out. Also, their buttons to turn on the burner... it's kinda scary because my 1 year old son was able to press it without us knowing... my husband smelt something burning and he grabbed the bowl that was in front of him... that's when he burned all his finger on his right hand and only time he realized the burner was on. These folks have bar seating available besides booths and tables. Neat! Typical hot pot fare with all the goodies ranging from veggies to fish balls, condiments & side dishes. Plenty of choices! I prefer the table style burners they have as opposed to others. No open flame, able to easily adjust the temperature. We went to Shabuya on a Thursday night at 6 and it was already in high gear in there. We didn't have to wait too long for a table, 10-15 minutes, before they sat us. We had an awesome server and she gave us tips on optimizing time and efficiency there...took our broth order and said to hit the bar for fresh veggies and seafood while she filled our pots. Thank you for that, because as soon as we sat down we were ready to drop our stuff in the broth and the meat was at the table waiting for us. Everyone enjoyed their food, and I am in love with that tonkatsu broth! It made everything that went in taste like gold. The meat selection was great, my only gripe is that it came out at like three or four slices of meat at a time. It's good to mitigate waste but a little frustrating at the beginning when you're always waiting for meat to come. I have to admit, this was my first time going to a hotpot/shabu shabu restaurant. My kids have gone for a while now and one of my daughters absolutely loves this style of dining. We weren't able to go on Father's Day last month as we had originally planned so two of my girls took me last night. It was fantastic! Shabuya was amazing and is a dining experience I look forward to repeating. We started by putting ourselves on the wait list when we were on the way. I must admit, I was a bit concerned to see that 21 groups were ahead of us. My daughter assured me that this was not bad and that our wait would not be long. By the time we parked a few minutes later there were 17 groups ahead of us. We checked in and got seated just a few minutes (less than 5) later. I was impressed. We went to the new Shabuya location in Kapolei. It is a lovely, modern restaurant with lots of room for guests. There is a full bar and, of course, there are heaters by each bar seat so that you can dine there, too. Although I'm pretty sure everyone is aware, Shabuya is an all you can eat establishment. When you walk to your table, you will probably pass their vegetable and seafood buffet area. With clams, shrimp, mussels, and fish there are great options for what you can add to your hotpot. On the veggie side, there is a wide variety of items to choose from as well. They have mushrooms, cabbage, corn, bok choy, and other items to choose from. The seafood and veggie section is kept well stocked and the items are super fresh. They also have things like soy sauce, goma sauce, chili oil, etc., so you can make dipping sauce for the meats. Of course, they also have a selection of noodles to choose from. I took some clams and swai fillet from the seafood section. For veggies, I took mushrooms, broccoli, onions, Kimchee, and cabbage. I also grabbed some udon noodles. As for the meats, they have a variety of beef, pork, and chicken cuts that are brought out to you on metal platters as you request them. You can get up to 6 platters at a time. Since I am much more carnivore than herbivore on the omnivore scale, this is what I was really looking forward to trying. We started with prime blade, wagyu sirloin, prime rib, and pork belly. Later we also tried the beef toro (beef belly cuts) and the prime flat iron. Lest I forget, appetizers are included in the price as well. Since we were mainly there for the shabu shabu, we only got some takoyaki and some soy glazed chicken karaage. Takoyaki is "battered and deep fried grilled octopus topped with mayo, unagi sauce, and bonito flakes." Three balls comprised the serving. I had the first one hot and it was soft and tasty. I would not recommend letting them get cold, though, as the second one I had, which had completely cooled was nowhere near as good. The chicken karaage was excellent. Very crispy but juicy with a very nice sweet soy glazed. Of course, the base of everything is the broth. I went with the spicy miso. I tried it before putting anything into it and it was a very nice miso soup with a little spicy heat on the backend. What makes hotpot so great though is how the flavor develops with the ingredients you add. The broth only got better and better as we went along. My daughter had suggested getting the udon noodles and I added them towards the end of our meal. I have to say that they were wonderful! The noodles had a good chew to them and they seemed to absorb some of the broth, making them deliciously flavorful. For me, the noodles were a great culmination to the meal. My broth was so tasty by the end that it went perfectly with the noodles and made for a very filling conclusion. Last, and probably most importantly, the service was top notch. Our primary server, Kaili, was fantastic. She was fun and engaging. She checked in with us often and made the experience a great one for all of us. I say she was our primary server but she was by no means the only person to check up on us, to keep our water glasses full, or to bring us meats and appetizers we ordered. The staff seemed to be well coordinated to make sure that service was very fast. All-in-all, my first hotpot experience was amazing. I look forward to returning to Shabuya. read more

Food and table service was great but their waitlist system is different from the Ala Moana location. I saw quite a few angry parties on Father's day because of the messed up reservation system. You can get on their waitlist via their website which redirects to yelp and it gives you an estimated seating time. Keep in mind you're not actually on the official list until your entire party is present and you physically check in. The time listed on yelp will be incorrect on busy days and your spot in line will not start until you are in person checked in. Luckily for me my entire party got there 45 minutes before our yelp seating time to checkin so we were seated only a little past our yelp estimated time but there were many parties who didn't know they had to check in PRIOR to their estimated seating time or they'll be pushed an hour or more past their estimated seating time. The Ala moana location doesn't require a physical checkin so be careful and note the difference with this Kapolei location. They didn't have the vegetable or fish tempura on father's day but the rest of the food was good. The table service was excellent, food tasted great and everyone in my group was happy and full. read more

Great start to coming here with being able to join the waitlist 5 miles before arriving! When we arrived we were 9th on the list, but we were quickly seated as we only waited about 10 mins before being called in. As we entered we were greeted by friendly staff at the counter. Our service by Jessie V was great! She is friendly, quick, and attentive. She constantly checked in on our table throughout our dining experience. The rest of the staff was also friendly and attentive, as our empty plates were constantly being removed from the table. Food was great! The original soup base is a great choice to start off if you aren't familiar with shabushabu style dining. There is a great selection of veggies, meats, noodles, and sauces to add into your soup base. There is also a choice of appetizers and thinly sliced meat to order. All this is included in the all you can eat price. Fair warning there is an excess food surcharge if there is an excess of untouched foods. Tried the new Shabuya in Kapolei and had a good experience. The all-you-can-eat setup is easy to follow, and the meat was fresh with good variety -- we liked the ribeye and pork belly the most. Broth options were solid (spicy miso had a nice kick), and they have a good selection of vegetables, noodles, and sauces. We also ordered some appetizers like takoyaki and karaage, which were decent. Shabuya is our favorite hot pot place on the island so we were so happy one opened so close to our house so we don't have to drive all the way to ala moana for it anymore. They have the yelp waitlist that you can join ahead of time just like the ala moana one which is really helpful, we joined before we left the house and didn't have to wait long once we arrived. The restaurant seemed a lot brighter and way more spacious than the town location and they had a lot more appetizer options like tempura and japchae and takoyaki, which are all also unlimited. The space gives everyone a chance to more around and feel like they're the only guests there. And the service makes you feel so welcomed. Our server Ty took care of us with great effort. He was attentive, courteous, and patient. He treated us as if we were his only table / guests. That meant so much to us! It's an all you can eat Shabu-Shabu, meaning you get your own veggies (and seafood). The selection of seafood is unmatched! There is a wait, but it's not long to us. Try to utilize the wait-list service they have online if you know you're coming out here. The staff are always friendly and polite. We had the all you can eat lunch this time, which is around $22. Their house broth is always a good choice. The self serve area is always kept clean and restocked by the staff. The only thing I didn't like is whoever design the table for the hot pot clearly didn't think it through enough to realize that people will have kids at the table, they put the power button right at the edge of the table for the toddler to manage to touch and turn off, I ask them if there a switch to turn them off individually for the hot plate to not come on to burn them especially because they section wouldn't be used but there's no option. That design should of been thought out throughly because that don't make no sense. This is a new restaurant in Kapolei at the Old Outback Steakhouse location. To join the waitlist, you must be 5 miles radius of the restaurant. We waited for about 17 minutes before our seats were ready. The food is good. A decent selection of meats and seafood, sides and all. Our waiter was very helpful and always checked in on us. It's new so the place is clean and modern. For the price of $32.99 all you can eat, it's a good deal. There is a 90-minute time limit. Now what went wrong. We ordered non-alcohol smoothie and my sister was half way done. The waiter was nice enough to offer a pouch to pour it in as a to go. So as we're walking out another worker (older male) by the door told my sister you can't take that out. Then our waiter said it's non-alcoholic beverage and the worker insisted no you can't take it out. Mind you, the drink is less than half way empty by now. Without putting up a fuss, my sister said ok. Not too sure if this is a policy but if they offer you a pouch to pour your non-alcoholic beverage in, double check if it's to go or not.
