Had ordered food to go around 9:30pm after a movie. We were starving and nothing else in the area was open. When we got back, we first noticed there were no sauces for the chicken bites. Then, when we opened up the chicken bites the piece on top looked like it was half eaten! YUM! I ended up not eating the bites because I was so put off by what I saw. I've only been to one other Shake Shack and I stopped in during a busy day at the Westfield Century City mall, simply out of convenience. I ordered a standard Shack burger, double with just 1 slice of cheese, fries and a Pomegranate Basil Lemonade. The lemonade was divine. I could drink it all day. Fries were just like the frozen ones you mom made as a kid that come the freezer at home. At $3.50 for a small serving - not worth it. Let's talk about the burger. It was by far, the driest and most flavorless burger patty I've ever tasted. The only thing it had going for it was the fresh lettuce, tomato and onion. It had a tiny bit of their special sauce but not enough to moisten the burger or add any taste. I added ketchup thinking it would help but sadly, no. Worst Shake shack I've ever had. How did this place go downhill so much? I'm an OG Madison Square Park Shake Shack fan when they were only in NYC so I was excited when they finally opened up in LA. When this location first opened I thought it was pretty good and even had a half finished 4 star review draft. Today I got a Shack Stack (usually my favorite) and was shocked by how terrible it was. The burger was so crunchy I cut my mouth. The mushroom was over fried and hard crunchy instead instead of nice and crispy, with the taste of old oil. The meat was even harder. It was a thin dry puck that was literally just crispy crunchy pieces in some places because the party was so thin and over cooked. Not much flavor other than the taste of slightly rancid oil drenched fried crunchy stuff. Way overpriced for the quality. Seems like a number of the mall fast food options have gone downhill since covid. Service was also mediocre. There is an employee whose only job is to distribute orders from the kitchen. I told him my name and he said they have it coming. He didn't follow up so clearly it wasn't actually ready, which is fine but when my order came out no one called out my name. That being said, my opinion of Shake Shack didn't change the second time around (nothing against this location, but Shake Shack fundamentally). My friend and I tried the shroom burger and the smokeshack. The smokeshack burger was good but not memorable. We preferred the shroomburger because of the interesting concept and the fried breading tasted really good combined with the cheese and portobello. Both burgers were also super tiny (like the palm of my hand) -- I knew the size of the regular cheeseburgers are small but for the higher price I expected more for the shroom/roadside! To me, there is nothing really bad about the burgers themselves but the value is not there. Also, my friend got the mango passionade because it's supposed to be limited time only, but (we thought maybe because we went in the evening) she said the drink tasted super watered down. Hmm... I was slighty disappointed by my meal last weekend. Service was alright. Kinda surprised that Shake Shack did not allow Apple Pay and still required credit card swipes at this time. Customer service was not friendly or helpful with recommendations. I ended up with a basic hot dog packed in a trolls bag. I must say the trolls bag is super cute I definitely kept as a collectible. It's Shake Shack, and you should know what to expect. It's damn good, and really consistent. The staff at this location are always nice and working super hard to run this place smooth. Covid safety is great with a makeshift order and pick up window at the front entrance. But this review is for the new Hot Chick'n sandwich. The first version of their Nashville Hot Chicken was definitely a let down. However, version 2.0 is a big improvement. I'm not worried about the toppings (and my location was out of coke slaw )- I just want to see if the chicken itself is good. Crispy as always on the outside, and juicy on the inside- Shake Shack fries each breast fresh to order and you can tell. The "Fire" spice had some good kick to it, but was not overwhelming. (Shout out to @lisaeatsla for telling me to get the hottest. She know my love for hot chicken is so real ). The guajillo and cayenne blend is pretty on point, and the flavor is reminiscent of true Nashville style- even though it's not spot on. The bun is always good there and compliments the chicken well. I actually returned here to try a different item than my previous visit; the bacon avocado burger and this was delicious! Bacon was crisp as I like it, the avocado fresh, and the fries were perfectly well done as I had requested. Another reason for the higher rating is the friendly demeanor of the employees here; from cashiers to the ones who call your name when your order is ready, everyone has been great. They did do a limited edition truffle offering for a burger and their fries; I tried the latter and it as a little too much for me, but I'm glad I tried this while they had it. No longer am I 'settling' when I come here for a burger; it's now a destination. I recently checked out Shake Shack for the first time and ordered the "Shroom" burger with fries. The Shroom is a crispy fried, portobello mushroom burger stuffed with Muenster cheese. Upon taking the burger out the box, I thought it was a little small. But this burger makes up for size in flavor and texture. Been here plenty of times now with the family and it's definitely one of our absolute favorites in terms of go-to for fast food burgers. So, few things you can't go wrong with - their fries, the shackburger, and the fried chicken burger. You cannot go wrong with either of these three. I repeat, you cannot. If it's your first time here - try one of the burgers, and the fries. If you're tempted by the cheesy fries, I'd say pass. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great. Stick with the regular. And if you're tempted by the hot dogs - pass for sure. Especially the shack-cago dog. The bun was soaked and just fell through when I ate it so, I'd definitely pass. We've tried the portabello mushroom burger - if you're looking for a vegan option - it's actually pretty damn good!! The portabello patty was fried to perfection, and everything actually complimented the burger well. But my most recent find - and by far my favorite, would be the chicken bites. Ohmygod. Heavenly. Ordered fries with cheese. Little chicken nuggets with honey mustard. Ordered a specialty custard with salted caramel and chocolate nibs. By the time I got to it, it was slightly melted and didn't have the full effect of it's vuloptuous, fresh custard. So guess what we did? I'm the only one in my family that eats regular burgers, so we don't go to burger places very often. However, at Shake Shack, they've got other items like the 'Shroom Burger and Chick'n Bites to keep my family happy. If you come during meal times, the line will be to the door, but it moves fast. I like that they've trained their staff to not just take orders passively, and that they take the time to make sure you know what you've ordered. On our most recent visit, the cashier double checked to make sure we knew there was no meat in our 'Shroom Burgers, just in case we wanted the Shack Stack instead. My daughter, one of the only kids in America who doesn't like burgers, eats both the hot dog and chick'n bites. The chick'n bites are super tiny and are probably best for a toddler that doesn't have much of an appetite. Their Shack Burger is a decent, always reliable, burger though most of the time I wind up with the 'Shroom Burger (a deep fried portobello mushroom stuffed with muenster and cheddar cheese). The joy of having melty cheese squirt into your mouth when you take a bite is not to be underestimated. Their crinkle fries are a must and taste even better with topped with cheese! We always get one order of fries for the family and wind up fighting over them. Tip: Order your own fries. The portions are tiny for the price, but it should be noted that they are using all-natural, hormone and antibiotic-free meats, which aren't cheap, on non-GMO potato buns. Plus, as my husband points out, it prevents you from overeating and getting that horribly bloated feeling afterwards. As an added bonus, you'll still have room to get dessert! The dining area is really small (I think we've only managed to sit inside once since they've opened), but they give you a buzzer so you can venture into the food court or patio area for seating. My only complaint with the Century City location is that they don't have the Veggie Shack... yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
