I really like the burgers and shakes here. The location is great just outside oak brook center. Lots of parking available. Indoor and outdoor seats. Everything tastes great here, and it's easily one of my favorite mid tier burger places in the area. However, service is slow, lines are long, and can never understand how they process the orders. I have requested for years Shake Shack to open a location in the west burbs since I always went to their downtown locations. So when this location first opened, I waited two months to give it a try for them to work out any kinks. What a disappointment... They should have it together by now. First, the workers look so unhappy which is a turn off. As I'm waiting for my order, the workers look chaotic and unorganized. Mind you, it's 5pm (not even busy, maybe 5 other people ordering). I can understand this during lunch time. Then, I went to sit down at a table to wait and it was filthy. Gross, this place is brand new! This is unacceptable. Now onto the food, tasted great but got me sick! NOT good. I can't tell you how many times I've eaten at Portillo's and NEVER gotten sick, not once. I was super excited that a Shake Shack had opened closer to my house. I always had to trek to the city whenever I was craving their food. My first experience at this location was okay. The food here is great, but they forgot about my shake. But, I let it slide since it was still within a couple months of it opening. The second time I went there was a late Sunday night, the wait was very long and many people were crowding around the pick-up counter. Didn't think too much of it. We waited around for about 30 minutes for our food. We ordered a couple burgers, the chick'n bites, and a shake. Turns out the vanilla shake machine was broken and everyone waiting happened to order a shake. They gave me a chocolate shake instead of vanilla once they told us the machine was broken. The food followed shortly after about 40 minutes of waiting. Turns out I got another shake as well. But, they also gave us a single burger instead of a double. So, they let us keep the single and gave us a double burger as well. All in all, we ended up with a free chocolate shake and single burger after this long wait. After the chaos was over, the manager came around with coupons for free chicken sandwiches. So, all in all, we came out victorious. But, I would have to suggest that the management get a little bit better. The garbage was filled to the top, there were no napkins in the dispenser. I'm definitely coming back for proximity, but the service just needs some kinks to get worked out still. read more

The fries tasted freezer burnt, the chicken was a disgusting version of Chick Fil A's nuggets, the honey mustard tasted like chemicals, the burger was overly greasy and had a gross taste. I got a burger with fries and a orange Fanta and it was a nice meal. Our food came out hot which was nice. Beware, the shake shack I went to did NOT have a kids meal. Staff: The people that worked there were nice, there was really nothing wrong with the staff. Expenses: I'm going to start off by saying that many people say that shake shack is really expensive but it is NOT! I got an orange Fanta, burger, and my mom got a hotdog, and coke. Plus, we shared fries. We got all those things for $21.50! I think that is very inexpensive! Overall experience: My overall experience at shake shack was really nice. The bathrooms were clean, the staff was nice, and the food was good. Was it the best burger I've ever had, no. But for a fast food restaurant, I was impressed. I have to say this location is awesome as they stayed open in bad weather when others closed early. The extra drive was worth it. Staff was welcoming and the menu board is very straight forward. I ordered the Chick'n Shack, cheese fries, and a soda. I was happy to see the traditional coke brand soda dispenser instead of the new coke mixing crappy machine. The atmosphere is modern with TVs and some music. My food was ready with if a few minutes and everything appeared hot and fresh. I was not disappointed at all. The cheese fries were crispy and tasted great. The breaded chicken has just the right amount of breading and was moist. The mayo was awesome as were the large pickle slices. I would eat here again!! What a huge disappointment. I used to frequent Shake Shack in the city and was always so bummed that there isn't one near me. Today I happened to be at Oak Brook so I was excited to have an amazing lunch. That did not happened. I ordered the Hot Ones burger and the Hot Ones fries which is the current promotion. They didn't have the ingredients to make the fries despite having just opened 20 minutes prior (and they weren't crowded. I wanted avocado on my burger. They were also out of that. We ordered the Dreamsicle shakes. This is supposed to be a blood Orange and vanilla custard with candied orange on top. What we got were vanilla shakes with candied orange on top (either that or there is really just absolutely no orange flavor at all. Like, none. We threw them out because why waste 800 calories on something that's not even good for a vanilla shake. I considered asking for a refund which I've never done at a fast food place or any other restaurant but I watched other people go up with food to report problems and honestly, it was clear no one cared. For two burgers, two cheese fries and two shakes we paid $43 and literally nothing was good. Two stars for the spicy sauce tho. That was good. I feel like a lot of places haven't recovered from COVID and this is one of them. If you can't get/keep good employees they won't care about making things right or having the ingredients on hand to make the dishes being promoted. There is a portabella mushroom burger for a vegetarian option. There is some chicken and a hot dog on the menu. There are fountain drinks and beer and wine available. Not a large selection but you can have a beer or a serving of red or white wine. The burgers are average size, if you want a larger portion you can order burgers as a double. Mostly good, but the reason I'm rating it two stars was the fact that THE STAFF WAS HORRIBLE. When my family and I walked up to the counter, the man behind the counter was leaning against the wall behind the counter texting on his phone, and finally looked up after a while and came to take our order. We had almost finished ordering and were having issues with the credit card reader when HE LITERALLY STARTED TEXTING AGAIN AND IGNORED US. We were extremely confused why he just ignored us and went back to texting, and we were like "Um, hello, the credit card reader isn't working?" And he got off his phone and came over to help us again. After he helped us and our order was placed, HE WENT BACK TO TEXTING WHEN THERE WAS A LINE BEHIND US. There were literally three people in line behind us and he was the only cashier open, and he still decided to text before serving waiting customers. Oh, and he also acted like he was doing us a favor by taking our order as he sorta sighed when he had to put his phone away for 5 seconds to help us with our order. When I went to the bathroom, he was in the bathroom just chatting with another colleague and texting at the same time! Later, I looked up and he was yet again ignoring the line and texting at the cash register. My guy, if you want to send a quick text, GO TO THE BREAKROOM. DO NOT DO IT WHEN YOU ARE SERVING CUSTOMERS. I was excited to try the chicken bits as I had not yet tried the chicken at shake shack, and unfortunately it led me to believe that shake shack is a burger place and does not do food well that is other than its staples. The chicken had a weird taste and did not taste great, and it was crumbly (???). The shack sauce was also "meh" at best. I saw a Chick-fil-a sign a few miles before shake shack, and I probably should have satisfied my chicken cravings there instead because any other place would have had better chicken than shake shack. My pumpkin patch shake was pretty good though, and I know that the rest of my family had good food. I usually like going to Shake Shack, and I have to say that this location really made me sad that I decided to chose shake shack, which evidently has a lower service standard, over going to a restaurant like Chick-Fil-a with a much higher service standard. At least at other restaurants they don't ignore you and start texting when you are trying to place your order. read more
