Very disappointed in this place. I ordered through the app and got my food. By the time I got home I noticed I was missing 2 items. I tried calling and was sent straight to voicemail. I was glad to hear that a Shake Shack opened near where we live as I enjoyed the burgers at one of their Chicago locations. While their frozen custard is nothing short of marvelous, the service could have been much better, especially when you consider the prices they charge. Mostly good, but the reason I'm rating it two stars was the fact that THE STAFF WAS HORRIBLE. When my family and I walked up to the counter, the man behind the counter was leaning against the wall behind the counter texting on his phone, and finally looked up after a while and came to take our order. We had almost finished ordering and were having issues with the credit card reader when HE LITERALLY STARTED TEXTING AGAIN AND IGNORED US. We were extremely confused why he just ignored us and went back to texting, and we were like "Um, hello, the credit card reader isn't working?" And he got off his phone and came over to help us again. After he helped us and our order was placed, HE WENT BACK TO TEXTING WHEN THERE WAS A LINE BEHIND US. There were literally three people in line behind us and he was the only cashier open, and he still decided to text before serving waiting customers. Oh, and he also acted like he was doing us a favor by taking our order as he sorta sighed when he had to put his phone away for 5 seconds to help us with our order. When I went to the bathroom, he was in the bathroom just chatting with another colleague and texting at the same time! Later, I looked up and he was yet again ignoring the line and texting at the cash register. My guy, if you want to send a quick text, GO TO THE BREAKROOM. DO NOT DO IT WHEN YOU ARE SERVING CUSTOMERS. I was excited to try the chicken bits as I had not yet tried the chicken at shake shack, and unfortunately it led me to believe that shake shack is a burger place and does not do food well that is other than its staples. The chicken had a weird taste and did not taste great, and it was crumbly (???). The shack sauce was also "meh" at best. I saw a Chick-fil-a sign a few miles before shake shack, and I probably should have satisfied my chicken cravings there instead because any other place would have had better chicken than shake shack. My pumpkin patch shake was pretty good though, and I know that the rest of my family had good food. I usually like going to Shake Shack, and I have to say that this location really made me sad that I decided to chose shake shack, which evidently has a lower service standard, over going to a restaurant like Chick-Fil-a with a much higher service standard. At least at other restaurants they don't ignore you and start texting when you are trying to place your order. read more

This is a great addition to the the Oak Brook mall area. It's off to the side so you have to look or you'll miss it. I could easily scarf down about 10 burgers but my body would hate me. Awww, what happened Shake Shake? The last time I was there a few months ago I was able to at least give 3.5 stars. But today, I felt like we made a 20 minute drive each way for nothing. For starters, when I get there, someone yells as I drive up, to place an order online because the tablet wasn't working. I'm thinking, "Okay, well, good thing I have my cell phone." Other places at least can take orders directly, but I digress. I pull over and it takes just a few minutes to complete our order with guest checkout. Ok, not too bad. I'm thinking, "good thing I had my credit card on me." Wait time 12 minutes. Six minutes later I get an email my order is ready. Very efficient but in my past experiences Ive had to wait longer. So, hmmm. I walk over to pick up and there are other customers just standing around waiting. Waiting for an expensive burger, fries and drinks? C'mon. Y'all can do better, Shake Shack. At least give out free samples of lemonade or the new shake flavor, or something. I get my order, get in the car and the chicken sandwich, tenders and fries were cold and appeared to be sitting for hooooours, sauce missing from nuggets, and there were hairs on the chicken nuggets as in chicken hairs and and there was specks of cooked blood spots in my chicken breast...I mean, all these reason explains wwhy it only took 6 minutes instead of 12 for me to pick up. Not freshly cooked, put together without double checking order and quality... for $30 dollars + tax for 2 people, driving 20 minutes each way, having to place my own order, stand in line to pick up and THEN have some food that I could have gotten better at Culver's for $6 per person? I mean, Culver's never disappoints and there is drive thru that takes my order and accepts cash or credit! Fresh and hot, prepared to order for less than $6. We decided it will be a long time if ever we return to Shake Shack to eat. Shakes and lemonades are predictably good, though. Food not so much. P.S. I never had Shake Shack before so we decided to give it a try. It was more a typical fast food place than I realized it would be going into it. I got a single burger and a fry. The burger was surprisingly tiny in general and the patty really thin. I would probably order a double next time. The flavor was really good though. I liked the sauce and the little crispness the patty edged got as it was a smash-style patty it seemed. Fries were your typical crinkle cut fries. Nothing special. We also got shakes on our way out. Dave a Chocolate and mine the Black and White. They were just ok as well. Mine was definitely better but in general I probably wouldn't order them again. I would come back, but I think I would just do things differently and I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to come here from afar. read more

Definitely several steps above your average fast food place; clean, open and casual atmosphere. The condiment and drink stations were organized, clean and well stocked. The employees were smiling, friendly, working efficiently and all looked genuinely happy to be there. You walk up to the counter to order and pay. They give you a buzzer that will light up when your order is ready at the pick up counter. I had the Chick'n Shak sandwich, fries and an iced tea. The fries were crispy and very flavorful. Probably one of the best crispy chicken sandwiches I've ever had anywhere. And the fresh brewed iced tea was really good. (You'd think it'd be difficult to mess up brewed iced tea but I'm amazed at the number of places who have managed to do so. Lol) While I was dining, an employee walked around offering everyone free samples of their custard. I didn't want to be rude, so I took one and it was delicious. I had heard people were excited that a Shake Shack was opening in Oak Brook. I had never eaten in one so didn't know what to expect. My experience was a mixed bag. It was a hot day and I was in a hurry. Pulled up and look for the drive-through. What? No drive-through? I have to walk inside and leave the dog in the hot car to order a burger? Grrr. But OK I'm committed, so I roll down all the car windows and head inside. -3 points for not having a drive-through in this day and age. I like the menu. Seems like lots of nice options. Definitely more than your run-of-the-mill fast food burger joint. It's a little pricey for fast food, but hey it's Oak Brook so what do you expect. +2 for the menu, minus one for the prices. Friendly girl takes my order and hands me one of those little electric beeper things to tell me when my food is ready. I noticed a large tray of cooked burger patties with melted cheese on them sitting on the counter in the kitchen area. They looked pretty tasty, But I did wonder if they had been sitting there for a while since the restaurant wasn't very busy as it was the middle of the afternoon. While I'm waiting for my to-go order I decide to kind check out the restaurant. It was cute and nicely designed inside, and had some nice looking outdoor seating areas. However, It was a little dirtier than I expected given that it's a brand new restaurant. +1 for cuteness, -1 for Mediocre cleanliness. I decided to wander over to the condiment bar and collect my needed utensils, napkins, straw, and condiments while I was waiting so I could get back to my car and dog. The ketchup dispensers were pretty non-functional and frankly kind of gross. They had three giant dispensers, yet none of them actually functioned properly. The ketchup barely comes out of any of them and it required a manager to come over and try to fix them. When I asked why they didn't just have ketchup in packets for to go orders (Since they had mayonnaise and salt and pepper packets on the condiment bar, why not ketchup?) The manager informed me that you could get ketchup packets at the front counter. Just from a practical standpoint this didn't make a whole lot of sense, since when you go up to the counter to get the ketchup, they have no mustard or other condiments at the front counter. Who thought this through? Obviously no one LOL. -1 for the dumb ketchup machines, and another point down for the annoyingly inefficient condiment situation. Finally the food arrives. I am rather surprised to find a little tiny burger in a ginormous bag LOL. They get a plus point For putting the burger in a paper wrapper and saving the planet from another pile of Styrofoam. But then the eco-friendly burger Is placed into a large open cardboard box that is put in the bottom of a gigantic paper bag. So -1 for eco-wastefulness. The root beer float was pretty awesome and I'll give them 2 plus points For that. Good ice cream and good root beer although a tad sweet. I was less impressed with the burger which I didn't actually like. It tasted like it had been sitting for a while and I didn't like the crunchy texture on the outside or the flavor. This place was on my bucket list for a while. We finally got there and we were so disappointed. The burger was one of the best ever, but not worth the $10+ they charge. The crinkled fries were over cooked and crunchy. They were out of chocolate shake, "it was down." So, that meant no s'more shake or chocolate shake...bummer. Another thing, a manager and employee were shooting the breeze without masks. My family and I love this place. But this last visit was totally off. Their floor was so greasy and dirty. My 3 year old fell numerous times. The bathrooms were disgusting. Hairs in the sink. I have been to Shake Shack branches in DC and Hong Kong. This branch is disappointing. I could not help but think I'm at Mc D's or Wendy's, when SS is supposedly better. My big issue here is cleanliness. Once you get in the double doors, you would notice the smelly feet smell. Was it because it rained today? Inside, the place is messy. I love going to the location in the city, so having this 10x closer makes this even better. First off, just pulling up to it the exterior was modern and very classy and clean looking. Secondly, the food was great. Coming in about an hr before close and on a Friday nonetheless the food was still fresh as could be. Fries were crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. The cookie butter custard with the toffee bits are definitely a must try! The crunch from the toffee/chocolate chunks really make the difference. And Third, the chicken nuggets were amazzzinggg. I've followed the Shake Shake story for years and just recently had an opportunity to try it. It's a good burger. Not great. I've had better. It's far above the typical md,bk,etc but for the price level I've had better. The bottom bun was completely soaked thru with grease. Possibly cause it was a double patty. The fries were ok. The shakes were outstanding. Kids loved it. The hot dog. Big strike out. They cut the dog down the middle and griddle it fiercely. Takes all the moisture out of it and leaves char marks that is off putting to children. Watched one eat the dog out of the bun like a piece of taffy. Yikes. It was rough and tough! Great service.
