One star is generous. I just don't get what people see in this place. Start to finish our experience was awful across the board. The staff is the worst- they seem to literally not give a flying flock that you're there. And you're not allowed to wait for your order- I was chased outside and told I couldn't come in until I had waited 20 minutes. Seriously? Shake Shack offers decent gourmet burgers and shakes. I highly recommend the Shack Stack Burger ($10.69). So good! There's nothing like it anywhere else. The Bacon Cheese Fries ($5) were decent but nothing extraordinary and pretty tiny. I normally love their shakes but I tried their S'mores shake ($5.79) and lowkey, it tasted nasty. And I LOVE s'mores. I get that flavor any time it's an option. I don't know if they made ours wrong or something but it did not taste edible. We were already too far to go back. We spent almost $11 on shakes that we didn't even finish because it was so bad. I was so bummed- I usually love S'mores! We used the online app to order and picked it up in store. A fair warning, everything is highly overpriced for tiny portions. But you're in Oakbrook so what do you expect? It's about $10.69 for the 'Shroom Stack Burger and it does NOT include a side of fries or a drink. $10 for a tiny burger take it or leave it. It's really good, just not filling either. We come here to treat ourselves once in a while- it's too overpriced to come regularly. Still, I will not deny that the burger is super tasty. Also, I knocked another star because of their measures against COVID-19. Upon walking in there is a hand sanitizer station at the entrance that's empty. Masks are required for entry which is good. The pickup area was confusing and disorganized. But what really took the cake was the fact that employees were not wearing their masks properly which defeats the whole purpose of wearing one in the first place. They have it on but it isn't covering their nose, offering no protection at all. I counted at least four employees (only visible to me) who did not have them on correctly. Many of them were employees making the food directly. Especially since they are offering food service, that kind of lack of insight is unacceptable. I was going to take photos and send them to the manager if it were not for the growing line behind me. I'm no Karen by any means (lowkey, the opposite) but this is not something simple- we are living in a pandemic and a slip up can mean life or death for people. My family works in healthcare so it is very personal to me and this virus is not a joke nor is it political by any means. It is real and people have died from it. These employees are dealing with food! Respectfully, please wear your mask properly or leave. I beg the supervisor to be on constant watch and to remind their employees to wear them properly no matter how busy it gets. Mind you, this also protects them too. It goes both ways. I am not lying or stretching the truth by any means- I have nothing to gain from writing this review. Always liked shake shack ever since I ate it in the city. This one is no exception. Delicious burgers, great cheese fries, good shakes (slightly pricy for me but good). Nice location here, nice outdoor patio (for when it's not a deathly polar vortex), and I'm so happy I can eat the shack whenever now. Will be returning. The cheeseburger patty was also good. So much yummy goodness. And oh yeh don't forget and miss out on the crinkle cut fries with cheese $3.99. The service was fine. Plenty of tables to eat at. I understand we are currently living in the twilight zone, but the need to download an app to place an order is less than convenient. Add employees barking at customers to back up makes it less than desirable. Okay the food..... I really don't have a problem with dropping money for good food, but this is legit like one step above Wendy's. The food is very expensive and the portions are tiny. I was charged $3 for a container of frozen crinkle cut fries and I counted 16 of them. I mean that is just wrong on so many levels. The burgers are frozen patties, nothing special. Price on the high end, taste is just mediocre. The strawberry shake tasted good, but it was tiny for costing almost $6.00. Right off the bat it was hard to decide what to rate this place, lots of pros but some cons. To start the food was A little on the smaller side so I wouldn't come here starving but I will say the burger I got was delicious! Very tasty the bun was nice and soft. The fries were fries good but nothing special about them. So for food here I'd rate A 4 out of 5 I won't deduct points for the size I just know what to expect next time. The most disappointing thing here was the service, they need to get some of the kitchen people on the register every cook or bagger I saw was very bubbly and very friendly smile on their faces it was good but the cashier was horrible I brought up it was my first time there and was asking questions she gave the blandest answers she couldn't sell me on anything. I asked if I should get the single or double burger because I didn't know how big the burger was ( I should've got double) and the reply was " I don't know" at this point I was already thrown off I came in ready to try something new and this service didn't give me high hopes. I asked for a side of the shake sauce and ketchup on the side with no response other then her putting it in the pos machine And to end It off I wasn't told have a nice day or anything after I paid she looked at the next guest ready to take the next order. If the manager or the to cooks I spoke to were in charge of taking my order my experience would've been great the whole way through that cashier butchered the rating and she was the reason I didn't rate this a 4 so the service was a 2 out of 5 and the 2 is from the other employees I talked with. Now last but not least the shakes they where marvelous but small but amazing so my only complaint is i got no spoon it was really Thick a real workout trying to drink it. I love Shake Shack. I've been to the one in the city quite a bit and the one in Oak Brook a handful of times. Quality is the same it's easier to get a table in Oak Brook. I have read reviews that this location is not as good as the others in Illinois... it was clean and the service was quick, the food was also fantastic.. much better then the Skokie location. Some pro tips: always go with a double! Their fries are awesome always order! Im not a huge fan of their cheese sauce its a white chedder flavor. Portillos cheese sauce is still king. I ordered their Bacon Avocado Chicken Sandwich, which costs a whopping eleven dollars (Ala-carte). I received a sandwich that was so small, it wouldn't make the "premium" selection on a McDonald's menu. I love Shake Shack but I'm over this location. I've been to the other Illinois/Chicago locations and NY location and they never got my order wrong, this location has given me issues multiple times now. Just a few examples, Last time my shake was sour. I thought they had accidentally given me some mint flavor but they weren't even offering a mint flavor. I left the whole thing. Last night I waited forever for my well-done burger and I still got it back pink. Something in my meal also tasted like fish or raw chicken, not pleasant. Left most of it on the table. (From experiences through friends in the restaurant business, I've been advised never to send food back, so I didn't. Their receipt survey doesn't seem to really care about negative feedback or offer an option to contact me back). Some of the employees are really friendly, but I've had a couple rude experiences (a rude cashier and also a rude busser who kept trying to take our tray multiple times to rush us when our food was still there) Service is a mixed bag. I told them the Sprite was flat and the machine needed to be changed and they told me they were completely out of Sprite (seriously?) . Would be nice to know before I paid or to be offered a refund, More wasted money left on the table. Midday visit is probably the best time to come here. There is hardly a line and there are plenty of tables to choose from. I have never been to Shake Shack and decided to try a variety from their menu. I ordered the 6 piece chicken bites, a single smokeshack, cheese fries, a drink and a special flavor of the day shake vanilla toffee or something like that. The chicken took longer than expected so the person who took my order added a few extra pieces to compensate for the wait. The burger was very good! I really enjoyed the cherry peppers. The fries were good but if I were to order again I'd ask for cheese on the side. I'm a little picky about toppings on my fries. I'd rather dip into cheese than my fries be smothered with it. The new Shake Shack has delivered on bringing a quality fast food hamburger in a free standing building with ample parking. There is a free phone app for Shake Shack which allows you to pre order and avoid any lines. A great idea if you walk in and there is any kind of line. There basic burger is a thin patty which lends it self to the easy choice to double the order. My favorite is the double cheese burger with fries. They have several other expressions of burgerdom and have a portebello mushroom burger for the beef challenged. Drinks range from standard sodas, nice lemonades and house made juice combos to beer and of all things prosecco. Service is quick and attentive for a fast food place. Give yourself a treat and try a burger and be sure and ask for some shake sauce when you pick up your food, it's great on the fries. read more
