This is one of many Shake Shacks, so I know leaving a review here at all is kind of pointless, but this particular location has some of the most unprofessional staff I've ever encountered at a restaurant. I placed an order via the app to pick up at their takeout window so I wouldn't have to go inside with my baby (due to COVID concerns). As I'm walking up to the building, there are two 20-something year old employees (in their Shake Shack shirts) on top of the roof heckling random people as they walk by. Really??? Okay, whatever. I get to the pickup window and it's closed (for no apparent reason). So I have to go inside with my baby to get my food, which is annoying and frustrating during the pandemic. I wait my turn and tell the woman behind the counter that I'm there to pick up my food. She looks me dead in the eye, picks up her phone, sends a text message to someone (responding about her dress size, I know because she did this in plain view), puts the phone down, then wanders over to the orders to check if mine was there. It wasn't, because my order was served about 10 minutes later than it was supposed to be. There is essentially zero management presence at this location and the staff has basically no accountability--at least that's what I would guess by how lazy and unprofessional people seem to be every time I go in there. Also why is it so hard to get your order? Every time I've come here there are a bunch of people standing and waiting for their food, and every time someone brings a new order up they just leave it at the pickup counter and refuse to make eye contact with you so you don't ask them anything about it. There's never any one person handling the distribution to customers or actually calling out names, so people just awkwardly stand around and wait for an opening to flag down one of the depressed staff members to ask if their order is ready. 2 stars because the food is okay (if not overpriced), but this place really needs better management. read more

This location is a total disgrace. Staff typically never has their sh&t together and has cancelled our pick up order TWICE for no reason. But more importantly their burger just sucks! Very very clean, extremely clean almost spotless for a fast food restaurant. I've Heard good things about Shake shack in Las Vegas and while we were in Santa Monica I saw one so I had to stop by and I had to try it! customer service was great! food didn't take that long. my burger I got the double cheeseburger with grilled onions and raw onions and the buffalo fries delicious!!! the burger melts in your mouth I was not disappointed I was very satisfied I should've ordered another one to go. got a milkshake I would give it a three out of 5 five stars.. burger... five out of five... cleanliness five out of five customer service five out of five next time I see a shake shack I will definitely be dining again. read more

There's a reason why this shake shack is rated so poorly. Had to wait over 20 minutes for our order. When it finally came out the employee was too busy trying to hook up their friend with free cheese and flirt that they forgot to call out our order. Then when I finally did get my order, they forgot to package the order separately as I had asked. Then I asked if there's any way for me to differentiate between the burgers and they said "you're gonna have to open them. What you want us to open it for you????!!" Service is great, a lot better than other Shake Shacks that I have been to. Food was delicious and may stop me from going to In n Out as much. And the best part is they have a dedicated parking lot in the back which is hard to find in Santa Monica. The pickup window is also a really good addition which I haven't seen at other locations. How can a famous restauranteur do this. Basic beef . Not grass fed like many more upscale burger joints now do let alone organic. Humanely grazed? I'd like to see that cause we know it doesn't happen. If you care about quality use better beef that is pasture raised. Patty to thin to have any flavor or texture or proper cook. Just a well done thing. FROZEN crinkle cut fries that are not cooked enough so the are not even crisp. Really? So many places make fresh fries. How hard is that? Only things worth having are the milkshakes. So save your burger cravings for one of MANY better places in L.A. Update: Thanks for confirming my descriptions and Shake Shacks response doesn't really address my complaints but is corporate speak nicely mooing "around" them. For the fries, It's nice to know they are mostly free of bad stuff ( whatever that means) in an attempt to use natural fries but it was not even a 100% commitment in the response, or addressing the fact that they ARE still frozen and not crisp! If INnOut can do it why cant you? Beef concern didn't address the fact that they are not using grass fed pasture raised beef which is a quality difference you can taste and more humane for the cows. Pretty much all decent more upscale attempting places use hormone/antibiotic free beef at a minimum so no points there from my perspective. Look plenty of fast food places are worse on the "natural" front but again, from a gourmet restauranteur I expected more and better quality and freshness. I think that is my main surprise in all of this. On top of that the bottom line is, the burger and fries did not impress. Shakes are excellent and glad to hear all natural (I think)... So I have had worse for sure, but I have also had way better. Life is to short to eat an overpriced nothing burger and fries. But never to short to have a great shake. Let me start off by saying I am not sure why Shake Shack is so popular. I have eaten many burgers in my life and this was probably one of the worst burgers I have ever eaten in my life. I am not exaggerating either. The experience was terrible. I ordered curbside and waited for my food, as the food is being handed to me through my car window the cup holder broke and the all the drinks fell out of the cup holder and all over me and my car. My seat, floor, and myself were soaked in Coke a Cola. The Cup holder that shake shack uses broke and that caused the drinks to spill. Terrible experience and have never experienced anything like it before. Not the biggest deal though, I cleaned the mess up. I was there for the food and looked forward to that but that was a mistake! Now to the food which is supposed to be what all the hype and rave is about, and I have no clue why. The food is Mediocre. Cheap quality meat. The burgers had no flavor. They use frozen fries which also had no flavor. The only two things that were decent were the shake and the chicken bites. Everything else was garbage and inedible, I had to give most of the food I bought to my dog because I couldn't eat it... Wasted $70 pretty much. The burger had no flavor and tasted like nothing It was inedible and terrible! The custard has frozen pieces of ice in it and had the consistency and texture of ice cream that had been put into a freezer that is too cold to maintain the right texture. The fries were frozen and cold and had no flavor. I ordered the Bacon and Cheese Fries which came with highly processed cheese. It tasted bad and had the consistency of pudding, It was not melty nor did it taste good at all. I pretty much tried everything and It was all cheap quality and bad food. The burgers were terrible. The spicy chicken sandwich was terrible. The fries were terrible. One of the worst meals I have spent my money on! I would NEVER go back to Shake Shack! This place is good for people who like bad quality, tasteless, and mediocre food! read more

This is my second time here. First time came with my son who really likes it and I thought it was OK to good. Driving home today I realized I had skipped breakfast and lunch and was hungry at 5 o'clock. So, the order took a very long time to come & the fries were barely warm. They brought me new fries right away but by that time I took my 1st bite of the burger which was over cooked and just warm. So they brought me a whole new meal which was just fair at best. Don't think I'll be running back for a $17.00 burger, fries & drink. read more

Visited twice since its recent opening since I'm in the neighborhood. Went on opening day at noon and had a tasty smokestack and fries combo. Didn't mind waiting outside for my to-go order. Went back this past Saturday (5/1) night around 9pm for an online Shackburger and fries to-go order I placed and saw they were fairly busy. The shackburger tasted different than the smokestack but not as good IMO (maybe I should've checked before eating), but the next day I had to deal with food poisoning effects. I think I will at least avoid the weekend night shift in the future, but it will take a while for me to trust them again, even though I'm not sure it was bad meat or bad technique. read more

Went to shake shak on 501 Wilshire Bl.in Santa Monica and what a dissapointment l ordered the Roadside double burger , a single hamburger for my wife,fries , strawberry shake and 6 pieces of chicken and l clearly said to the guy taking the order l wanted one BBQ sauce and one mustard sauce , when l was served no sauces ,my understanding is that when you order a double cheeseburger you get 2 slices of cheese , lettuce, tomatoes and onions none of these items were in my Roadside so l had to go back to the counter and the guy again gave me only veggies for one burger and l ordered two..so my burgers only had buns, beef patties and l am guessing the sauce was the caramelized onions ....not going back to this place !!! read more

This was my first time trying shake shack and I must say the burgers were delicious and the fries were good as well just wish they would give a bit more of the fries . The burger was super fresh and the lettuce , tomatoes and onions as well not all mushy or soggy like McDonald's . Just wanted a quick shake and fries. Took a bit to get our order and we were the only ones there. The fries, absolutely top notch. Well salted and hot. The shakes were ok. I got chocolate and was surprised at the heavy amount of chocolate they use in making a shake. I am use to more of a milk shake with milk chocolate and this shake was overly heavy with the chocolate. Only drank about a 1/3 of it. We choose to eat outside. I realize they don't want leave condiments, etc on the table because of the some of the type of people wandering by. But when you bring the tray, could you not include some ketchup and napkins? Sent the server back for ketchup, napkins and salt and got a handful of ketchup packets, a couple of salt packets and no napkins. Not a friendly place. Whoever opened the door for us (we were there right at 11 when it opened) did not say a word. Not, welcome or come on in, nothing. Told the counter clerk we had not been there and needed a minute and that did not go over well. She could have explained some of the items to us (again we were the only people in the place). Ordered through the app for walk up window pick up. The only reason I'm even giving them 2 vs zero stars is the app worked great and I was notified my food was ready right when it was supposed to be. They make you stand in front of this window like an idiot until they decide to open it and ask your name with an attitude. Took my girlfriend here on a date and am incredibly disappointed. Been going to shake shack for years and this was just not the establishment I've come to know and love. Soggy bun, cold fries, discolored lettuce, overcooked patty etc. Maybe it's just this location but I can't say that I'll be back at shake shack anytime soon. Sad. read more

ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! For those avoiding meat, the SHROOM burger with roadhouse onions is super yummy & they offer unsalted fries on request! The Lemonade made on site was very tasty.
