I was so incredibly excited when I heard Shake Shack was coming to St. Louis. This was always a staple when I visited New York City and I didn't realized the founder had his roots right here in my city. I feel like they kept pretty tight lipped about the construction because all of a sudden it was already here! I waited in line the first day for an hour to have an early taste of glory. They kept us entertained in line with Bissinger's chocolates, strawberry mint lemonade, and custard. I ordered a single cheeseburger, the mound city double (special St. Louis burger), cheese fries, a Christmas cookie shake, and the local Pie O'My pecan pie concrete. I've been to the original in nyc and I'm impressed with their stl location. Their shakes, fries, and portobello burger were delish! The workers were friendly and the manager even checked in on us and asked how we were enjoying our meal. The only downside I see is for those 3 items it is an almost $20 meal. read more

Service has improved drastically since my first visit (I went a couple months after they opened), and the food is great. This is a change/update to my previous review. Raising from 2 to 3 stars. I would give them a solid 5 if they had WiFi or one of those home cell towers inside. The building they are in has no cell reception (Verizon or AT&T, I have both). I was talking to a Doc who works at BJC and he said he loves the food but he can't go there during his break because the hospital can't page their doctors there! I realize the area in general has poor coverage, but most places have combatted this problem by adding WiFi. That way WiFi calling still works if you have it enabled on your phone. read more

It took about 15 minuets from line out the door to order. Then I only waited another 8-10 minuets for the food to come out. I got the mushroom sandwich and small fries. This was amazing! The mushroom was amazing!!! Not a huge meat eater and was excited to know they have vegetarian options! Was it good? Yes. Was it great? Not really. My office-mates and I decided to take a field trip for lunch earlier this week. We all agreed that going to the Shake Shack would be a fun experience so off we went! Parking was not the easiest thing to find in that area. Street parking is hardly available and there aren't lots that I know of near that area. We drove around for a few minutes and then as someone was getting into their car we waited to take their spot. I guess that was lucky? We walked in around 11:30 and the line had about 10 people in it which wasn't bad. Ordering was easy. I ordered the shroom burger, fries and a strawberry shake. When I ordered the shroom burger the guy at the register made sure to tell me that it was their "meatless" option which was exactly what I had intended to order, but I appreciate him letting me know. That would suck if someone was expecting a juicy meat patty with a mushroom and then all they got was a giant mushroom? So yes, it's their meatless burger. I paid and I was given a pager for my order; he also asked my name for the order just in case. Our group was lucky enough to find 2 tables next to one another-score! While waiting for our food order there was a worker (Eric) who asked if we needed anything and offered to bring over ketchup, napkins and even water; what a wonderful guy! He deserves 5 stars! He even took our pagers and offered to bring over our food when it was ready; I think he really went above and beyond the call of duty for us and I would like to give him a shout-out; thanks Eric! When my food came out it looked really tasty. The presentation was good for the most part. My only real complaint about the presentation was that my shake cup had lots of chocolate smeared on the outside; I get that the workers are making multiple shakes at a time; but at least wipe down the cup next time. The shroom burger was good; the mushroom had a nice crispy coating and tasty cheese. I think there was more fried coating than mushroom; but it was still good. The fries though...I don't know if I just had a bad batch, but they tasted way too much like oil and less like french fries. When I asked others about this they were all okay with their fries since they also asked for cheese fries which means the cheese probably covered up the oil flavor? That's my opinion at least. The shake was my favorite part of the meal; can't really screw up a strawberry shake. When we were done with out meals Eric once again came over to help us and offered to clear off our table. We were in the process of ordering a to-go order (through their app) and needed to pick it up before walking out. This turned into a "cluster" of a mess. When we were informed (via text) that our order was ready for pick-up it was almost impossible to get to the counter to pick it up. They were so backed up in the "pick-up" area (mostly for dine in customers) that I couldn't get their attention for my "pick-up" order. I had to be patient and understand they still might have some kinks to work out? May I suggest a window or a separate area for "pick-up" orders only? This could help with the congestion at the counter. I was finally able to get a workers attention to ask for my order and he was able to find it easily in the back. I thanked him and was on my way. You know what was strange about this order? They didn't have it in a to-go box; they just had it wrapped in wax paper and placed in the bottom of a bag; is that normal? Should I have asked for a to-go box too? Strange. Overall, this was a decent trip to the Shake Shack, but I don't think I enjoyed it enough to add it to my rotation of lunch spots. I went with the Mound City double cheeseburger (comes with provel cheese - $10), fries ($2.80), large soda ($2) and a small Central West Blend concrete (gooey butter cake and salty caramel sauce - $4). The burger is amazing and it's huge. I didn't need fries after that burger. The double cheeseburger (about a 1/2 lb. of meat) filled me up on its own. The fries were crinkly fries that looked like the kind that you buy at the grocery store, but they were really good. They melted in my mouth. I visited a Shake Shack in PA years ago and only had a Peanut Butter shake. It was delicious. I visited the St. Louis, MO in beautiful CWE but ordered from the app, thinking I wouldn't have to wait in line. Received a text saying my ordered was ready to come to the counter and pick it up but at 1:45 & waited an additional 15 minutes before getting it $24 just to still wait and get just ok food. The fries weren't hot or tasty but the cheese sauce helped. The double cheeseburger with peppers & onions was very good. I did get another peanut butter shake & a red velvet shake for my daughter. I've never met a Shake Shack I didn't like, this was no exception. I got their signature chicken shack sandwich, with its crispy chicken patty and their Kringle cut fries. It's s pretty busy location, although somewhat difficult to find parking at night since we weren't familiar with the area. There's a Whole Foods across the street, making it a great destination if you're looking for a good adventure next time you're in St. Louis. read more

Shake Shack is one of my very favorite burgers. In-N-Out Burger is cheaper but far inferior and flavor. Wahlburgers is surprisingly similar in flavor, but features a much higher price point. Came here at 2pm on a Sunday. The line was out of the door with only about 12 people ahead of us, so we decided to wait. My buddy had been here before and used a free burger coupon from a previous visit. I ordered The Shackburger with bacon, fries and a root beer. They hand you a buzzer and you find a table and wait for it to go off. The whole process took less than 5 minutes. When my burger came it looked delicious! It definitely tasted as good as it looks. It was perfectly seasoned and came with lettuce tomato and "shake sauce" it's similar to Big Mac sauce but better. I learned you can also order the food online and it will be ready when you get here. Finally made it down here recently and I must admit that I was impressed. Food was good and the atmosphere matches the rest of the area. Burger had great flavor in my mind and was cooked perfectly. The fries were okay, meaning that I don't have much to say. I would get the combo again. But what really won me over was the milkshake. That was so good. I'm so glad I don't live down that way anymore or I would have a milkshake all the time. Everyone should try at least one of their milkshakes. Tonight I had a hankerin for a cheeseburger and Shake Shack was where I wound up at. Decided to get myself a double avocado burger because I am trying to connect with my caucasian ancestors lately. I snagged some sriracha sauce from Starbucks earlier today (sup with the outage??) and went to town on some cheese fries dipped in house sauce and sriracha. Believe me when I say that these fries were the crispiest crinkle-cut fries I have had the pleasure of enjoying with some liquid cheese . What's truly important to note is that the burger was made with real hamburger and not some pre-cut patty. Burger took me to heaven and kissed me on the forehead before leaving;I got absolutely wasted and wound up throwing the cheeseburger up and it was even better the second time-apparently this is the meal that keeps on giving. So I took the plunge and drove 37 mi into stl to give it a shot. Not my first time having shake shack but I've only had it on the vegas strip and I was a little tipsy to remember. But I think it's a decent burger. Not great but decent. Not good enough to make a long trip. But to say it's bad would be a lie. The staff was nice, the restaurant was clean and they have the three B's...burgers, beer, and bacon. Can't go wrong. And everything was fresh and I liked the peppers on the smoke shack burger were tasty. But...I will say this, it was extremely greasy. But what burger isn't. My biggest complaint was the price. $35 for 2 adults and a kid is more than restaurant prices and honestly this isn't a restaurant, it's a fancy fast food joint. If I want a good burger at this price I will just go to 5 guys which is definitely a lot closer. Would I go back? Sure if someone I was with wanted it and I am out numbered, but I don't think I would go out of my way. The return isn't worth my investment. read more

This is one of the best shake shack locations I've been to! We were greeted with a smile by friendly employees, who helped us out with our complicated payment on a gift card and credit card. We received our food quickly and promptly, and sat down at a bench outside in a lovely area. The double cheeseburger was juicy and cheesy, without being too greasy. The fries were fresh, hot and crispy, which isn't always the case at other shake shack locations. I am yet to try one of their shakes, but I'm sure it is as high quality as the rest of their offerings! Oh, and as we left, the manager approached us and asked how our meal was. Located at the corner of Euclid and West Pine, there is a lot of foot traffic and opportunities to people watch as you wait for your order. Several outside tables allow you to watch as people try to navigate the jacked up parking and traffic situation outside the neighboring Whole Foods store. Stopping in for lunch on a Tuesday at noon there were surprisingly few people and I was able to zip through the line. The small menu packs a punch but isn't shy about walloping you in the wallet as well. A single Shack Burger was wrapped well and delivered hot. Te smashed griddle burger had cheese, crisp lettuce, a ripe tomato slice, and a tasty sauce. The second sandwich was the chicken shack. A well cooked, plump piece of chicken with lettuce, pickle, and another strong sauce. Both bins were soft and held up to the sandwich with all its toppings. Add a small Coke and i was out the door at about $16. The meal took about ten minutes to get to me and it was packaged well. For $12 I'd go back a couple of times a week. For $16, maybe once a month. Think of a combination of Steak n Shake / Five Guys, but better quality. I hear the custard and fries are good too. They weren't on today's menu for me. read more

Update: I went back a month ago after management reached out to me and offered a second chance on their dime. Very courteous. Unfortunately, I had a pretty similar, though not AS terrible, experience my second time at the restaurant. First, I had to argue with the cashier that the e-gift card I had received wasn't counterfeit. I'm not real sure why it was my job to convince her of that, but she put up a real fuss with me saying she'd never seen that before and that I couldn't use it. Finally, I suggested that she at least try to scan the card, and surprise surprise--it worked. Then, 30 minutes later our buzzer went off (still not a great turnaround time for burgers and fries but forgivable). But again, the buzzer doesn't signal your food. It signals for you to get up and wait. Ten or fifteen minutes later I got my food. But you'll never guess what happened next: my order was wrong! They had forgotten the shake I had ordered! Our burgers were cold by the time we got everything. Honestly, this place sucks. I feel bad for saying that because it's obvious management cares because they attempted to earn back my business--not to mention I have friends who are shocked to hear of my experience that eat here every other day almost--but this is the worst service I've ever experienced at any restaurant. You received an extra star this time because you tried to make it better from the first time. But other than that, I have no plans to ever return to this chain again. I wish I could give a higher rating but the taste of the food is not up to par & after all they are a burger joint. My recommendation?
