It's true - these burgers are magic. We liked them a lot. I don't know if it's worth the trouble though. 1) This place is insanely crowded. It's really hard to get a seat & it takes some time to get ur food. My issue is if they are this popular, they need a much much larger dining room & more staff. 2) Those folks are struggling. Service is not pleasant or great. Not their fault. It's just overwhelming here. 3) It's pretty expensive. It's ridiculously costly for just some good burgers & fries. 4) even though, they're next to a kids play area. They don't have kids meals. It's not that hard to get those on a menu. I love Shake Shack and frequent this location with consistently satisfactory experiences. I stick with the regular single shack burger with a side of cheese fries. I prefer the milkshakes to the concretes; I ordered the Busy Bee last time and it ended up tasting almost identical to a Costco berry sundae (not bad! Just not what I was expecting or craving at the time). I find the service prompt and the location is tidy with decent table space. The portion size is perfect for a single meal, and I always find myself surprised by how full I get when eating one burger and sharing an order of fries. Always one of my go-to burger places. First time I tried shake shack was in NY was I was hoping that they would expand and come near me. I was super excited to go out to tysons and get to try their burgers again. I highly recommend all of their burgers. Personally I love the Shroom burger--fried patty with only melted cheese and mushrooms inside (melts in your mouth) also, their fries are bomb! Their milkshakes I have mixed reviews about since I've been hearing such great reviews about it--in my opinion, it just tastes like melted ice cream but can't really complain about that. This specific location is in Tysons Corner mall in the outdoor courtyard area across from the Hyatt hotel. Parking in the garage is the easiest way to get here. There is more seating outdoors than indoors. Indoor seating can get somewhat cramped and tight depending on how busy it is. I usually order the single shack burger and it comes with American cheese, lettuce, shack sauce, and tomato. You can customize your burger and add other toppings such as pickles and onions. The burger patty is thin, but do not let its appearance fool you. It is packed with delicious flavor and is tender. The sauce compliments it very well. The buttery bun is soft and holds the burger together, also making it easy to consume. You can also order a double shack burger that comes with 2 patties. There are also other variations such as the 'shroom burger that comes with a fried mushroom with a cheese filling and a bacon cheeseburger The crinkle fries are perfectly cooked to a crisp with just a tad of salt. You can also order cheese fries as well. Drinks come in 2 sizes: small or large. The root beer is my go to. Once you place your order, you receive a buzzer that will go off once your food is ready. During this visit, there was a manager at the counter who was very friendly and chatted with my husband right before we received our order. It appeared as though he was overseeing the staff line. Let me start off by saying that being from SoCal, it will always be In n out before anything else! Don't know why but I finally got the chance to try Shake Shack. My friends seem to be crazy about this place so I gave it a shot. Let me start off by saying holy heck! The prices here are ridiculous if you ask me. In n out is literally half the price and is better! (Not tryna make this a battle between the two) but cmon! Now for the food. Damn the burger was so good! I ordered the burger with a mushroom stuffed with melted cheese that was fried. First bite, the patty was juicy, the crunch of the mushroom and the melty cheese was perfect. As much as I love Shake Shack, I am highly disappointed with this location. I came here on a Monday afternoon, it was President's Day so it was super packed since alot of people weren't working. I had just downloaded to app so I gave it a try to see if it would save me some time from waiting in the line that was out the door. I set my pickup time and made sure I was back by pickup time. I received the notification saying that my order was ready for pickup. I went up to the counter where the sign directed app pickups. I could literally see my bag with my name on it sitting on a shelf getting cold. After multiple attempts at flagging someone down... it was 10 minutes before someone FINALLY asked me what I needed. I showed them my app screen for pickup and they grabbed my order for me. Again, HIGHLY disappointed. Isn't the purpose of the app to save time? I really hope they work out the kinks in their app pickup process because it has huge potential to save both staff and customers time. Despite this hiccup in service, the food is still comparable to all the other locations I have visited. I ordered my usual, the Shake Stack with a side of their delicious crinkle cut fries! I would recommend that if you visit this location to take your order to go, if you have no self control around Shake Shack (like me) and cannot wait till you get home... I recommend taking your order to go and bringing it to the food court inside the mall. After ten minutes in this establishment I felt like bathing myself in Germ-X. This is by far the grimiest, dirtiest, most cramped Shake Shack / fast food establishment I've ever been to. There were dirty napkins and other debris littering the floors and the tables were crumb city. We had ordered our food to eat inside the restaurant but the overall ambiance was do dis-inviting that we asked for a bag and ate inside the mall. Burger was tasty but nothing mind blowing. The location is already fairly small and jam packed. After you order, you find yourself in a box of a pickup cluster! No organization whatsoever. I hope they work on a better system for this because it can get pretty crazy. Buzzers go off a few minutes before the food is actually ready, but it's probably because you may need those extra minutes to fight through the pickup crowd. Shake Shack started out from a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park, eventually turning into a permanent kiosk in '04. The menu offers burgers, flat-top dogs, fries, frozen custard, beer & wine, and even breakfast items. The hubs and I tried the original location out in NYC, but we were left super underwhelmed. However, with the recent collaboration between Eric Bruner-Yang and Shake Shack, I was curious enough to give them another try. The hubs and I tried the following: the Crispy Peking Chicken sandwich (battered and seasoned chicken bread, Maketto hoisin sauce, pickles, cucumbers, and sliced scallions; a DMV-exclusive limited edition sandwich, this wasn't really good - the batter on the chicken was definitely crispy, but way too salty and overwhelming with the seasoning; the pickles and the cucumbers seemed to be not fully pickled and fermented; there was hardly any of the Maketto hoisin sauce; the sandwich itself didn't really resemble anything of a 'Peking Duck' and it fell flat for both of us); a single-patty of the ShackBurger (this burger was just not tasty and not flavorful; requesting some extra Shack sauce as well as adding some ketchup also did not help); a side of crinkle-cut cheese fries (the cheese came in a separate container, but it was only 1/3-filled; the sauce was also coagulated and not enough for the fries to be dipped in; the crinkle-cut fries, however, were crispy and pretty tasty; the only issue was that they were all cold and not freshly out of the fryer; I was a little surprised with them not being fresh, as there was a consistent line - it appears that fries are cooked in advance); and, one of their featured drinks, the Strawberry Mint Lemonade (mostly full of ice, this had no mint taste to it, and slightly oversweet). The problem with this location is that it's very small compared to other locations. This makes cleanliness at the seating areas hard because people are toppled on top of each other. When the weather is nicer, there is nice outdoor seating next to the ping pong tables and outdoor playground. Things to get at any Shake Shack: at least the shack burger with everything on it (or at least the sauce on it), a side of crinkle-cut fries, and a concrete (similar to a McFlurry). Know that this is a simply made burger on a soft, potato bun accompanied by no-frills fries. Fries that are always golden crispy on the outside and fluffy soft in the inside. Know that the vegetarian burger is a breaded, deep fried huge portobello mushroom filled with gooey cheese and if you get the shack stack, you can get the best of both the non-veg and veg burger options into one glorious HUGE sandwich. I really like the Busy Bee concrete and can horde that serving without sharing it with SX easily. The mixture of berry compote intertwined with crunchy bits of honeyed almonds and creamy vanilla ice cream, sigh, it's just gives me the feels. I have to admit, SX and I do love our burgers. We believe each burger joint aims for a different aspect of the burger market. Shake Shack is just a traditional, simple, well made burger and that's the beauty of it. our 2nd visit to shake shack in 24 hours! yes, hubby enjoys shake shack THAT MUCH! this time, we went to the one at tysons corner shopping center since we were meeting up with my cousin. this location is a bit hard to find, as we walked around the mall for a while before we found shake shack, which was actually outside of the mall, in a small building just by the ice rink. thank goodness for store directories to guide us! hubby ordered the single shackburger which was a hamburger patty with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and shack sauce, and added an order of the crinkle cut fries. he said that the burger and fries were just average, and not quite worth the $8+ that we paid. my cousin ordered the vegetarian 'shroom burger and she felt that it was the most unhealthiest thing ever since it was fried and oozing with cheese. she said that she could hardly tell it was a mushroom! she did enjoy her side of crinkle cut fries though. i ordered a double dip frozen custard, a scoop of vanilla plus a scoop of egg nog (their daily flavour), but they only gave me a single dip, since the cup was so small. fortunately, they only charged me $3.50 (price for single) instead of $4.50 (price for double). both vanilla and egg nog were very good, i especially appreciated the egg nog since it was christmas eve! the verdict? overpriced, just-ok-tasting burgers, yummy frozen custard, with average customer service. read more

I made the horrible mistake of trying the "Shake Shack" tonight. My nephew hyped this place up so much I couldn't pass the opportunity to taste what I was told would be a mind blowing earth shattering burger... not even close. I took my nephew to dinner tonight and he ordered a cheeseburger, fries and a drink, I ordered the mushroom burger with fries and a drink and added bacon to my burger for an obscene total of $39 and some change. We sat down and waited in a very cramped little "shack" of a place. People were practically sitting on top of each other in there so I decided to change my order to "take out" because I was uncomfortable sitting in such close proximity to complete strangers (literally shoulder to shoulder) with bright hot lights pointed at my face. We went to the food court and sat down. I opened the bag of food and discovered that what I thought would be a few small sautéed portobello mushrooms was actually one gigantic FRIED AND HARD mushroom. I have a small mouth so immediately I realized that there was no way I was going to be able to bite into this burger without cutting the mushroom in half. So far not so good. When I sliced the mushroom open there was a lot of slimy mucousy looking sludgy stuff on the inside. I was annoyed that when I asked the cashier about this burger she never mentioned the fact that it was one large hard deep fried mushroom or that it had mucousy looking cheese on the inside that didn't look like cheese, it didn't smell like cheese, in fact it looked like a huge slimy loogie. I took a picture which I will be posting but I have to say that it looks a lot better in the picture than it actually did in person. I tried to put the image of the mucousy filled half of the mushroom out of my head, but in order to do that I had to cover it completely with a napkin because it was evoking a very overwhelming gag reflex that was getting hard to control. I placed the other half of the hard deep-fried huge mushroom on my greasy sloppy looking burger and tried to finish my meal. That turned out to be more challenging than I had expected. I just couldn't finish eating-- it was gross. Half of the bacon that they charged an extra $1.50 for was uncooked and limp. I have taken a picture of my burger however most of the bacon in my picture is the part that was cooked (I had already thrown most of the fatty limp pieces away). The fries were okay... They basically resembled and tasted like the crinkly fries that I can buy frozen at the grocery store. The burger patty was sloppy and falling apart, there was grease on the bun that was also falling apart, the lettuce appeared to be going bad and even after I removed the gross mushroom I couldn't get the thought or taste of it out of my mouth--- so essentially I wound up throwing away my burger, my fries and most of my drink. Shake Shack at Tyson's hooray! I've heard so much about Shake Shack and could not wait to try it! It's right upstairs from the food court outside of the actual mall. I went last night(Friday) and geez! They were packed ! After ordering you really have to sneak into a table AS someone is getting up if you want to eat inside. There is only about 8 tables inside and though it usually doesn't get that cold here, it was 30 degrees last night so sitting at their large outside venue was out of the question! The warmer months would be great to sit outside and enjoy their food. We tried their burger, hot dog and fries ( with cheese of course) and of course a concrete for desert ! We really enjoyed everything we ate, and will be back. Is it the best burger I've ever had? I dined out in the cold wintery weather of Philly and can't say it was worth it. The food definitely was not very fulfilling, I didn't see the hype so I scratched Shake Shack off my to go list. Two years later, Shake Shack opens one at Tysons Corner and once again hearing people fantasizing over them I decide to give them another chance. My first impression was that the tables weren't cleaned and there was trash all over the ground. Second this location is cramped, when I visited it was packed so there was no where to seat. I just stood around for a bit and luckily a table opened up. A shroomburger, double shack burger and fries were ordered and every single item was salty as hell. The only positive remark I can give about the food is the nice organization when it came out. My mother who had the shroomburger didn't even finish her burger and I finished 75% of mine. The fries were also very soft, loaded with table salt and not tasty at all. Hands down my favorite burger place is In N Out, which unfortunately we do not have here on the East Coast. But comparatively speaking the price difference is steep and you get a much more budget friendly meal at In N Out. A standard double shack burger comes in at $8 and you could easily get a whole meal at In N Out for that price. With that being all said, if you have never had Shake Shack give it a try. However after my most recent experience I won't be returning back to Shake Shack anytime soon. read more

This location is outside of the mall close to the Tysons Corner Metro Stop, which makes for a convenient burger stop. Seating inside is limited, however there is also some outside seating available. The concept is simple with a pretty basic menu which consists of burgers, hotdogs, and shakes! What could be better! I ordered a Double SmokeShack, which was a cheeseburger topped with all-natural Applewood smoked bacon, chopped cherry pepper, and ShackSauce. The burger was awesome and served pretty quickly however you could tell it was made fresh to order. The bacon and sauce added a unique taste which made me quickly forgot about the subpar burger places like Five Guys. Fries here are ala carte, however they are just as good as the burger. I couldn't leave without getting a shake, especially considering the monthly special was the Chocolate Salted Pretzel Shake. Seriously those flavors just sound amazing, and to be totally honest with you it lived up to my expectations! I like the big fat crispy crinkled fries compared to the skinny fries that you typically get at Five Guys. Personal preference. The store at Tysons Corner does serve the crinkled fries which is to my liking. The place can get a little pack during the lunch/dinner hour but it does move at a good pace. Try the shroom burger if you like mushrooms. It's a mushroom patty with cheese filling on the inside. Yum! The store is located on the walkway to the Silver metro. Fries, was also hot and fresh, but crinkle fries reminded me of he general frozen fries you get at your local super market. There was a pretty big crowd in the restaurant but the line moved very quickly. I noticed that virtually every item on the menu was a bit overpriced but all of that hype must have some truth right? I had the smoke shack ($7?), cheese fries ($4), and the black and white($5.25 for a tiny serving!!!)shake. The bacon and patty on the burger were tasty but the serving size was way too tiny for the price. The fries were a total ripoff. They weren't bad but definitely not worth the price. The shake was the worst offender. After tasting it and double taking the receipt, I had to bust out my John Travolta "no bourbon in it?" On to the service. Everyone here seemed so depressed. I almost felt sorry for them until they left my order hanging out on the counter for five minutes before calling my name. Yeah instead of activating the pager they made me hold for 20 minutes they just called my name. This is my 2nd time eating at a Shake Shack, but this is my first time at this location. My first impression upon walking into the store on a 76 degree afternoon with 70% humidity was noticing that they did not have the A/C on. Let's just say, all the customers were glistening with sweat--even their lemonade machine was sweating. The food was spot on, as I'd expected, based on the food I had at a different location. I ordered a double smoke stack, fries and a Tyson's Treat concrete. All were perfectly cooked, and I polished it all off with no problem. The service? Spotty. Those that did help me were friendly. On the other hand, there were a few people that couldn't be bothered to stop chatting with each other to take my order. In fact, it started off quite weird. I first walked up to an open register, and the lady behind the cash register naturally made eye contact with me. We both then stood there and looked directly in each other's eyes--making full eye contact--as she proceeded to have a conversation with a person in the kitchen for a good 20 seconds. All while never breaking eye contact with me. I kept wanting to start giving her my order, but she never asked for it. It was like she was dared to intentionally not take my order while looking right at me in my eyes. Except it wasn't a dare...she was just a horrible employee with no interest in helping customers. I usually like to dine-in at SS, but, unfortunately, it's near impossible to get a seat here. I got the shack stack, as well as a shake, and ended up going back in the mall to find a table. I had no expectations of this place, in fact, I never knew how much buzz this place had until after my experience. When you first walk in, you get a very modern corporate feel to the place. You know, those work environments designed and managed by 20 and 30 year old hipsters. Ok, I'm digressing here. The positive vibes I first got walking in, went away immediately. The workers there aren't the friendliest, and they weren't that efficient. The guy taking orders obviously knew I was waiting for him, but he just wanted to stand there as long as he could without having to take an order. The burger: I got their double. It lacked flavor, and I think they were trying to compensate the lack of taste using lots of salt. The bun...people may like this bun (its not brioche, its like a potato roll or something) but I don't think it works, especially with a double patty. It's just way too thin and doesn't really add anything to the burger except as something to hold things together. The pictures posted here make it look plump and fluffy but when you dig in, it gets cardboard thin. The fries: I like the crinkle cut fries. Reminds me of those frozen bags of Ore Ida's. At first they tasted great, but after a couple..they got really salty. At first I failed to see why...then it was obvious, TONS of salt. I'm not kidding here, the very next day, I went to Wendy's and ordered a classic as a way to make up for my experience at Shake Shack. I will try it again tough, but first impressions last pretty long. read more

Where's the flavor? Where's the juicy patty? Yawn...boring! Even with the crispy bacon, the burger could not be saved. Why am I paying for some weak flavorless burgers with flat greasy buns? Yes I'll admit it was better with ketchup and I usually never add ketchup to my burgers. But it was the most non-seasoned burger I've ever had. I was super disappointed, maybe it's just this location because I've had Shake Shack in DC and I enjoyed it there. I'm giving a 1 star because the cheese fries were decent. As decent as it could get. Regardless Shake Shack is an overrated burger joint. Go to five guys at the food court if you want a burger with salt and pepper. Don't waste your time or money. One burger, two burger, three burger, four? No, ill just take one thank you! I've heard about Shake Shack making its way to the tycoon park of Northern Virginia! And was definitely excited. You'll probably have to take this review with a grain of salt as I probably over ordered (as I tend to do visiting places for the first time). But I got the Coffee Shake, Original Burger with Bacon, and an order of Fries. And ate them in that order. Coffee Shake? Good flavor. But for a custard ice cream shake, it didn't taste creamy enough. The Burger? That was my disappointment. The patty with cheese tasted rubbery. Lettuce and tomato not fresh. Bacon like it was microwaved hours before I got there. But the potato bun just as good as I remember my first time. It may have been the 10 minute drive back to work. Maybe you have to have at it instantly. Either way disappointment. The fries? Yummy! Eat them right away. They're trash about half an hour later. Ill more than likely be back given that its so close to work and literally in the biggest mall in NoVA. Shake shack is a popular attraction for all, especially the corporate Tysons employees looking for a nice lunch. I would rate it a 3.5** They have really good burgers. I usually get the ShackBurger or the SmokeShack. I stick with the single because the doubles are so expensive... Adding onto that, the fries are good but also pretty expensive. They portions are small, but at least the fries are pretty good. What I like to do is order cheese fries - the cheese comes in a separate container. I then pour the melted cheese onto my burger for each bite (it's so good omg). You'll have enough melted cheese to dip your fries in and pour some on your burger, so don't be afraid to be generous with the cheese. The shakes are OKAY. Nothing special, just an average shake. I got the chocolate shake to try it but I probably won't be getting another shake in the future. Overall, pretty good food but super expensive for what you're getting. During the lunch rush, the employees are pretty fast with the service, so don't be afraid of long lines. read more

Now, I live in Richmond, and I had a couple of hours to kill in NOVA so I just had to try this place that's so raved on social media. We came almost right when it opened, but they already had people packed inside. There's only 5 tables, so be prepared to do a pick up or just sit outside where there is additional benches. Even though this place is upscale fast food, the employees are so attentive and nice. They're pretty much on standby to clean your table and even get you some condiments on the side. Onto the food, my brother was salivating at the sandwich. He absolutely loved the Shake Shak sauce, and the chicken was well cooked. I can get the hype, but definitely not something I'm ever going to wait in line for. read more

My first time at a Shake Shack and eating a burger! (I stopped in at the one in Chinatown once for a milkshake.) I don't know, this stuff was really hyped up for me but I don't get the hype. Was my burger good? Sure, but it wasn't great and it was kind of too greasy. It felt like the bun was over-buttered, or it had just absorbed all the grease from the patty, because I was definitely getting grease on my lips before I even had food on my tongue. It was a juicy burger, and I guess I'd rather have my burger be a little greasy than dry. The burgers are definitely cooked very nicely but what is going on with these burgers. (I do have to admit to inhaling them since we were having dinner at 9:30 and they were tasty.) Crinkle-cut fries are fine. Again, just not extraordinary. You don't get a lot of them and they're only fine. Didn't feel any type of way for them. Where I feel the need to say something is our vanilla shake. It is NOT a lot of milkshake and we pay $5 for it? For essentially melty vanilla ice cream? That's NOT okay. It's not. Is it good? Sure. But I could stick a $1 McD's vanilla cone in a cup and that'd be a similar deal. I felt kind of jipped by this milkshake, you guys. I definitely have paid less for more milkshake that tasted better. (An example is Cheeburger Cheeburger.) This was pretty disappointing in just how small the cup was for an ordinary milkshake that was really overpriced. Will I come back in this mall? Mmm I guess? I don't know, I don't get the hype. I won't be like OH HAYLL NO but I don't think I'd suggest Shake Shack if I'm with a group at the mall. read more

So happy that there's a Shake Shack more convenient to me than DC. I absolutely am a fan! Shake Shack is located outside of Tysons in the outside rink, so you have to go outside to get to the store. I've been waiting to try shake shack for some time now. When I got there, I ordered two shake shack burgers, a hamburger, cheese fries & a coffee shake. The total came to be about $22. The burgers were smaller than I expected, but tasted delicious. The burger was very moist and fresh, the sauce complimented the burger very well and it was NOT greasy. I would've had to have 3 burgers in order to be full. So that definitely adds up if you're going there to make sure you're full. The cheese fries were so crispy and I love the cheese sauce. The cheese fries are a must order each time I go to shake shack. The restaurant is pretty small, so I hope they expand and include a lot more tables. It would be an awful experience during the holidays to eat there. Overall, I recommend coming here - I will definitely be back. read more

So this place is always busy so I have passed on trying on at least 4 separate occasions. There would be people everywhere, rain or shine so I would say never mind and just grab something else. Well, after attending the Andy Grammer summer series concert just outside this place with a friend, I decided to try. OMG!! I'm so glad I did! I tried a SmokeShack, crinkle fries and a peach lemonade. The SmokeShack is a cheeseburger, applewood smoked bacon, red cherry peppers and shack sauce. I nixed the cherry peppers and shack sauce. When I asked the cashier what was in the shack sauce, her response was its a "special sauce" that's a little sweet and a little tangy. I figured I'd err on the side of caution and pass. I need to know what I'm eating and what that "sweet and spicy" entails. :-) Anyhow, the burger was really good. I asked for a well done burger. It wasn't overcooked by any means. The burger was juicy and oddly enough quite flavorful. One of the best I've had in the area. I also ordered the fries - they are tasty and crispy. Fried to perfection!! Extremely delightful!!!! I gave 4 stars because the place is really small and a little unorganized. Apparently, the crowd I've seen waiting around in the past were people waiting on their orders. It's hard to tell how big the place is unless you actually go in. It's literally just a counter. I ordered take out twice and I didn't wait longer than 5 minutes in line and 10 minutes for my order. Overall, definitely a good burger. Perfect portion and reasonably priced for the area. read more

Worst Shake Shack Ever! Came in and it was semi busy. The cashier was RUDE. We waited about 5 mins for our food and was expected the food to be hot. But NOPE it was COLD ! The burgers tasted like MICROWAVE BURGERS! FRIES were COLD, semi crispy. We also go a Coke Zero. Tasted NOTHING like how a Coke Zero should taste. It was mixed with TAP WATER .
