Today I'm not feeling my best and decided I'm not cooking a thing! We are at Union Station quite a lot and today I decided let's just eat here. I chose Shake Shack because my children have never been and they both enjoy sandwiches. The restaurant is dimly lit and gives rest stop vibes. This isn't a location for a traditional family stop and eat which is understandable based on the location. My daughter (15) had the chicken sandwich and added avocado and onions. She rated the sandwich a 3.5/5. She said it's a basic chicken sandwich and nothing spectacular. My son (11) had the bacon avocado burger without bacon. He rated it a 3.5/5. He said the sandwich was mushy and messy. I saw the poster for the French Onion Soup Burger and thought it would be amazing. Thankfully I don't get paid for thinking cause I was wrong. The sandwich lacked flavor, was oily, and the sauce that was supposed to give a hint of sweetness overpowered the entire sandwich. I would not order this again or recommend it. The staff didn't acknowledge or speak to customers unless calling names out for orders. No greetings or salutations. You order via kiosk at this location. This is my 2nd time at Shake Shack. My 1st time was in NY. I had a better experience but didn't particularly care for the food. I will return to shake shack to try a shake but I will never eat from any location again.

Tables are "hand crafted in New York from reclaimed bowling lanes"... hilarious!

I come here every time I'm in DC on my way back to NYC. The food is always hot and fast. The service is always good. It's a perfect way to welcome myself back to New York before I even get on the train. Today I got a triple French onion soup burger and it was bangin! Yumm! The tables used to be bowling lanes, very nice touch.

Horrible experience. I put a photo with my first order. I got there and they handed me the bag. There were 2 fries and a burger in there with 1 side of cheese. I ordered cheese fries with an extra side of cheese. I also ordered the new truffle fries. When I tell you...the attitude I was met with when trying to get my actual order was ugh...I don't experience this kind of customer service at the other location. SMH. I ordered a second order, but this time just fries from the kiosk. My video shows you that I ordered just fries and ended up with cheese fries. 2 orders wrong in the same day. I just left with the incorrect order bc this is crazy. Plus I don't want to be met with an attitude again.

I ordered well done, that ain't well done

My son wanted a well done burger. As you can see from the pic, it wasn't even cooked. That said, my bacon double and cheese fries were tasty, along with our strawberry and cookies n creme shakes. Waited about 15 minutes for the food. The water tasted awful but maybe that's the District's fault. Tip: there is a foosball table and cleaner/more seating upstairs! Yo boy PG out.

I rarely write reviews of fast food but Shake Shack in Union Station is very convenient especially if you are catching Amtrak. Less positive is this outlet is one of the dirtier I have visited. The tables were not cleaned so you are basically serving your own. There is better ambiance upstairs assuming the homeless have not down a take over.

The food the 1st time was fantastic, but this experience was not the same. The whole crew needs to be retrained. Food was over cooked and cold. The so called leaders were not prepared for the task at hand. The people and restaurants were dirty and unfit to be serving food. Countertop was dirty. And if you ask if they could clean them off they brushed on the floor. Never again Washington DC union station. I work for Amtrak and was looking for great service and food.

Third visit at this location. I'm writing a review to document the fact that if you order off the app, YOU HAVE TO ASK FOR YOUR FOOD At the counter. I waited like an idiot while my tasty burger and fries was turning into a cold blob. Such a bummer. Food (5/5): I'm such a huge fan of these cheeseburgers! I love the flattop crispy patty and streamed bun. I've gotten an avocado bacon burger with crispy onions and this is a decadent sandwich! There's so much flavor in this sandwich! I love it! Other than the truffle burger (which I'm waiting to come back) this is my favorite. Atmosphere (3/5): crowded, dirty, with lots of homeless folks wandering around. Not sure that they even clean up or police the area. Service (3/5): Servers seems super grim and not very friendly.

    Sad how pitiful and greasy

Food greasy portions small and over cooked oil needs to be changed in fryers. The staff was grumpy and seemed short staffed and overworked in need o customer service training. shack used to be great what happen?

The food is good (standard Shake Shack) but the rest of the experience isn't. I often order ahead, and the order is either late so I have to wait around, or it's too early so sitting there getting cold (like, yesterday I was 10 minutes early and the food was already bagged and sitting there). The location isn't very clean. There's often a lot of trash left out on tables that haven't been cleared. The upstairs seating section is enormous but always closed. The cashier often sits down on a stool and looks at her phone between orders, and gives you the minimum attention when you order. Fries are sometimes not seasoned appropriately, like they forgot the salt. They need to put in a little more effort.

This is a very based store, my friends were complaining a bit but I don't care. I liked my burger

Shake shack never disappoints. The six-piece nuggets were absolutely delicious--crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The fries could use a bit more seasoning, but still some good fries. the sunset lemonade was THE BEST! i love the flavor! Service was pretty good, and for ambiance they have straws, forks, spoons, mayo, pepper, ketchup, everything you need to make your meal good.

Being that all Shake Shacks follow the same model. This review is pretty consistent from location to location, just some minor tweaks, We visited here with the Key Clubbers from various locations in New York State. Some students told me that they never heard of Shake Shack.... WHAT!!! OMG... Please don't tell mew that you have never had a Shake Shack burger... Please! This incredibly tasty piece of meat (or chicken or mushroom) with cheese on their signature bun is nothing less than awesome. It's all about the taste, and a Shake Shack burger comes with plenty of it. Even they're "shroom' burger was a tasty fried breaded mushroom with cheese on the same signature bun, or as their menu says: Crisp-fried portobello mushroom filled with melted muenster and cheddar cheeses, topped with lettuce, tomato, ShackSauce™." It was awesome. The team members in all locations are always smiling and friendly and I can not imagine the pressure that they go through. Their locations are well positioned and always busy. People are just happy to be here. Shake Shack is always and amazing experience. They definitely have something for everyone here. Danny Myers knows the audience and how to present to them. KUDOs to Shake Shack!

Standard Shake Shack menu and extras. Nothing special except a cool patio location inside Union Station. Lots of choices in Union Station, and this is one of them. Nothing special.

Very helpful staff, cute ice parlor vibes and decor..what's not to like! First, I can only indulge in dairy free products so while the selections here were few, the choice that I made was surprisingly shocking-all cashew milk are not enjoyable lol. I ordered the raspberry cheesecake ice cream and honey, after one bite, I thought that I was eating dairy because it was THAT creamy and good! Filled with flavor and delicious to the last drop, I thoroughly enjoyed it on a sugar cone. But here is where I laugh to myself because I sat outside, enjoyed a delicious ice cream and decided to then try a patty lol yes! I ordered one of the curry chicken patty and as a native Island gal, this place knows how to blend their flavors. Those patties were buttery soft and filled with flavor inside-ENJOYED IT! Would I return? YES! I do hope that they expand their vegan flavors but yes yes yes! It's hot in the District, stop by local and enjoy a well deserved treat.

They have a great list of unique rotating flavors, and it's always fun to come back to try out their new seasonal releases. A few of my favorites over the years have been their hibiscus sorbet -- a delightful dairy-free addition to their Hispanic Heritage Month flavors that is the perfect balance of tangy and sweet -- the cinnamon cardamom -- a super spiced ice cream that, despite being freezing cold, feels like you're about to drink a warm beverage -- and blueberry sour cream crumble. When I'm feeling less adventurous, they also have a really solid strawberry ice cream that uses real berries (none of that artificial nonsense you see in grocery stores) with a delightful fruity, slightly tangy flavor. There's usually a pretty long line, but it moves quite quickly since they don't allow samples. It's also a small space that gets crowded pretty easily, so I'd recommend taking your ice cream to go and enjoying it as you walk around Mt Pleasant or on the benches just below the entrance to Mount Desert.

There was a decent amount of outdoor seating as well as a little indoor seating. A single scoop was $6 and a triple $9, so you're better off getting a triple to split with your friends if you're comfortable with it. I had the black sesame and my friends got chocolate and kulfi. The black sesame was really nutty and pretty good. The kulfi was rich and full of nuts and cardamom, absolutely delicious. The chocolate was pretty average. I knocked off a star because this place doesn't do flavor testing, which I deem is a must for ice cream places, especially ones with odd flavors.

And then there was a freezer with all of their pints, ice cream sandwiches, and ice cream cakes. I got up to where the scoops are being served, and there was a very helpful sign next to it with all of the descriptions. I appreciate it the thorough breakdown of what has allergens, what has dairy, and what is vegan. I pretty much tried everything. My favorites were the vegan ones (spiced peanut crunch, tamarind spice), the spiced date cake, saffron pistachio, mangos & cream, black forest... I could keep going. I split a generous scoop of the spiced date cake & saffron pistachio and it was divine. I could've gotten some cool toppings too, but decided not to. It was $8 as is XD. It's definitely a splurge, but a unique flavor profile like this I think it's totally worth it. The pints are $12, which also isn't bad for something this unique imo. I'll be back to get some pints.
