On a Sunday morning in August, I ate breakfast with hubby here. The place was busy at 8:30am. The staff person took us to the booth where we couldn't fit and went back to sit in the tables side. I don't understand how Shakers only have a 3.5 star rating... I've been coming here for years now and I never had a bad experience with the server or food. Just the other day, my boyfriend and I came here for brunch. We went at a good time when there wasn't that many people. Once we walked in, we were greeted by a host who was really nice and friendly. I requested for a booth and she was nice enough to check for us. Once she came back she seated us right away at a booth and said our server would be over shortly. We had a really good server! I'm so sad I forgot her name but she deserves a raise! The way she interacts with her customers is beyond words. She's super cheerful and makes you feel like you're at home. I really hope we get her again as our server so I can ask for her name again. Our food came out in a timely manner and was delicious as always. Their sourdough bread is to die for. I always have to order it when I'm here. This is probably the only place around my area where I can find BOMB Southern Fried Steak & Eggs. Despite living in the area for over 7 years, I have somehow never eaten at Shakers. Breakfast is my favorite meal to eat out and I was eager to give this place a try, so it was my first stop on my day off work. The #1 breakfast is really good! I wore my kobe Dodgers jersey today and sat in front of the TV host asked use where would we like to sit cause the Dodgers game was on today. The waitress "Tia" served us today she had a great smile and asked us what we wanted to drink, and if we wanted to order, I ordered a tuna salad and my mother ordered a Chinese chicken salad and unsweetened I've tea. It is a old school diner, convenient off the 110 Pasadena freeway just off Fair Oaks exit, plenty of parking, and plenty of seating. I have been coming here for more than a decade and I'm ashamed of myself for just now getting around to writing a review. It's traditional, but the food always hits the spot and the service is outstanding. This is definitely my go-to for a hearty breakfast, dessert or even just a cozy place to eat a decent meal. I love ordering the club sandwich and they make the best fries! My husband recently tried the pot roast sandwich and we were so glad he did! WOW! It was tender, flavorful and delicious!! If you have a sweet tooth like me, the boysenberry pie and the carrot cake are seriously the best around. Before I end, I should let you all know that the waffles here are amazing too. My ONLY complaint is that during COVID they did away with the "healthy" lunch menu and I LOVED those options so much. I so wish they'd bring those back!!! read more

Another couple walked in and they were serviced first even though the hostess was informed that we were there before them. I have lived in South Pasadena for nearly 35years and this restaurant is the last institution from many other great places like Carmine's who have left. Forget the chains (always) and come here -- it is a family owned business and represents the best of South Pasadena. It is full of real people who eat real food and lead real lives. Shaker's is a beautiful restaurant in the Googie style of architecture by famed architects Armet & Davis. This style originated in Southern California and Shaker's is a great example of is this style is increasingly rare in a world that seems destroy what the people love. Shaker's It is a gorgeous place to hang out with view of Fair Oaks and lots of big screen TVs for people with that addiction. It was recently renovated (prior to COVID19) and a really nice place to be. A restaurant for classic food and good service. While some of my favorite people have not returned since the pandemic, there are some bright new faces like Richard who brightens our day. Of course, Kimberly, Angie, Vanessa, Jay, Mary, and the super gorgeous Gina ALWAYS make our day! I order the grilled cheese with fries because I like it. My husband enjoys the chicken pot pie. I have been dining here periodically for years. It's a decent place and I have had some nice dining experiences. There a few things they could fix and I would come here more regularly. For dinner, have more options with Chicken instead of a chicken breast. So boring and sad. Don't serve the Zucchini bread or garlic toast cold (we had to send the garlic toast back because it was cold. I took my cold Zuchiini bread home). I had the Chicken Fried Steak which was good but the gravy was just flour and it killed the entire meal. Like can you do a better gravy. And a real easy fix is get better take out containers. We both took our meals home and the sad, cheap containers fell apart. I tightly packed them but the materials is so flimsy that fell all over the place so right to the garbage and it was a $60 dinner. read more

Shakers is a pretty good restaurant. I have been there twice and I enjoyed my experience both times. The second time I went they were under staffed and my table was ignored and not to the fault of the server. The poor guy was running around trying to keep up the best he could. Some food items are great while others are okay/standard diner fair you could get at Denny's or IHOP for a bit cheaper. I do recommend coming her and trying it out yourself and let me know if you agree with my review. The service staff and manager are all very nice and really did their best to serve everyone. The reason for the 4 star review is because of the food. Some items are great (like the French Toast) and other items are meh (like the omelette).
