Great & friendly service and she kept coming back to get us more water & coffee or ask if we needed anything. Plus the staff was on top of taking used things away. Prices are great, but got a senior discount too! Coffee was good. I got a glass of milk and it truly was icy cold and good! My wife ordered a grapefruit mimosa and it's nice they give you a glass of juice with a split of champagne to mix. My wife and I got the eggs Benedict and cheese blintzes and split both. Both SO good! Hard to find places that serve blintzes, but you'll never find them this big and over the top good! I came here immediately after seeing @nate.eatz video on their carrot cake! One thing about me is I really love carrot cake and this place does it really well. The slice I got was moist and had the most perfect texture. I'm shocked an entire cake is only $17.50, will def be swinging by to order one for the next friend gathering! Was sad to hear that it was going to close some time this year and had to check out this old style diner. I honestly thought the food was pretty good! My partner loved his chicken fried steak and pancakes. The bun on my burger was kind of dry and the tots' portions were on the smaller side. Overall really good and I'd come back to eat their breakfast again. Our server was so lovely! Now Shakers has an update to close end of 2026. Eat there and enjoy before closure. Food is still excellent. Servers are excellent. Same food but most of the top sellers are moving to canoe house (down the street) owned by the same owner. I do love that zucchini bread with sugar. You will be missed. I love peaches and unfortunately the fresh peach season is fairly short. Marie Callender's used to offer fresh fruit pies with strawberries, peaches or blackberries. You can still buy frozen pie crusts and their "glaze". Our nearest Marie Callender's is in Monterey park and I heard it wasn't doing well in health inspections. I was happy to hear that Shakers in South Pasadena is offering fresh peach pie. I went over this morning, Sunday at 8AM. Parking lot was almost full, the place was crowded but they still were seating guests. It smelled good in there, like a breakfast diner.the noise level was low to moderate. I would guess the average age of the guests is 60ish. My pie, to go, was a little more than $18. Another Yelper pointed out that Shaker's pie tins aren't as deep as they used to be. I came here to meet my girlfriend for breakfast, it was a reunion because we worked together 16 years ago. The restaurant has comfortable booths and tables to sit, the breakfast menu was good and had a decent selection of American breakfast foods. We both ordered omelette dishes, she had the one with avocado, with home fries, I had the California with cheese, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms and peppers, and tater tots. We both ordered the zucchini bread with butter, it was delicious. We had a great time reminiscing about our work years together and we talked about the grown kids. The restaurant has plenty of parking, and the servers brought us more ketchup, salsa, hot water, and even helped recommend the omelette that I ate. We'll definitely be coming back here soon, it's very close to the 110 freeway, so access to the restaurant is very convenient. read more

What a place. So sad to see it being involuntarily shut down soon because of developers buying the land. The place was PACKED this Sunday with a line out the door. Been going here for many years and it's always reliably great. I think the standouts are the desserts and breads. I grew up in SoPas, so I remember this place from way back when. I think it was originally called Salt Shaker, and their sister restaurant down the street (now Canoe House) was called House of Pies. It's been awhile since I've been here. The visit was partially spurred by the rumour (confirmed in online statements) Shakers would be closing in early 2026 to make space for a Senior housing development. However, the host told me that was just a rumour, they were not closing??!! I don't know who to believe! Shakers looked unchanged since my last visit, inside and out. Love the mid-Century Googie architecture. I ordered 2 dishes, Southern Fried Steak and eggs and the Monte Cristo sandwich. It's diner food done pretty well. The Steak came with a biscuit and country gravy over both the steak and biscuit. The hashbrowns were fine. I actually packed the Monte Cristo to go, but it came with a pretty large and decent salad (there are other options) and I paid $2.50 for onion rings that were also decent. The strawberry lemonade is delish and includes refills. My server was fine but clearly overworked; her section was huge which led to delays even though she was running her rear off. I asked for my check early to avoid further wait. Shakers is known for their zucchini bread, they had a table full of them at the register in 2 sizes. I got the smaller but still ample one to go. There has been a couple of local media stories saying that Shakers will be shutting down any day. I believe the cause of closure is some new development in the city. The employees do not seem to know the exact closure date, but I was hearing everything from spring of this year to a couple of years from now. Regardless, the place has been packed. You can hardly get a spot in the parking lot. I went twice during the past couple of weeks. I have to say the service and food is definitely above average for what you would expect from a small, local diner. I like the bustling ambience and especially Googie architecture. I love breakfast for dinner so usually upped for an egg and high protein dish, although all their baked goods are excellent. I also really like their chili and patty melt. My friend recently had the club sandwich and really enjoyed it. What I was really surprised and delighted with was their butter cake topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a berry compote. The cake is rolled in a crunchy type of crumble and the inside is warm and gooey. It goes so well with the cold ice cream and the berries which are slightly tart. This dessert rivals most desserts I have had in fancy restaurants within the past year. I stopped by here to pick up some of their amazing Zucchini Bread and decided to add a slice of strawberry pie to try it. The girl helping me was very nice and super helpful. But.... When I got home, I opened my box of pie to try it. At $7 a slice, I was expecting a normal pie slice of delicious pie. Instead it was 4 glazed strawberries with 2 inches of crust, and nearly no crust on the bottom. I think the whole pie is about $20 so do the math of how a $7 slice should be. You don't even use eggs in pie crust, so you can't say the price is due to crazy egg prices. I was p*$$ed. I showed my husband and he was in disbelief at the size of the slice. Super nice girl needs to learn how to cut a pie slice. I did not pay for a Costco sample of pie. I immediately called Shakers and spoke to the manager Jonathan and requested a refund. He was able to take care of that for me. My tip for all of you is to look inside your box of to-go pie before you leave so you don't get a lame slice like I did. First time here for Breakfast/Lunch and we ordered the Shaker Delight Cheeseburger and fries ($13.25) and California Omelette without ham (16.50 + .50 upcharge for eggs) and we ordered desserts, Boysenberry Pie ($7.50), Shakers "Famous"Carrot Cake ($6.95) and a Hot Fudge Sundae ($6.95). The burger was just ok...I would choose something else next time. The fries weren't cold but they weren't fresh out of the fryer and they were pretty salty. The Omelette was on the bland side...it could use some spice. The Boysenberry pie was wonderful and worth coming here for. Carrot Cake is usually my all time favorite but this one seemed to be more of a bread consistency and not my favorite. The flavors were good, but the consistency just wasn't my favorite. The corned beef hash and hash browns were so good!! Loved how crispy it was, and the corned beef was flavorful, with a nice bite to it. The eggs were also cooked perfectly. For the biscuits and gravy, I thought the flavor of the gravy was very nice, but it was a little too thick. The biscuits were okay, they tasted like the Pillsbury canned biscuits. The carrot cake was delicious! Nicely spiced, perfect amount of frosting, and loved how you can see the freshly grated carrots in it. The coffee was not that good. It tasted very watered down. The service was okay. The staff was friendly, but it took a while for our food to come out. Wow! Hellll-O Shakers! Sorry this is only the first time during your storied history that I've visited, but it WILL NOT be the last! Your vibe reminded me of the original Norm's we inhabit on occasion, so we thought we'd give you a try. We were VERY HAPPY we did! I went with the salmon and chose pilaf over mashed or baked potato. It came out with veggies and MAN was it nice to finally eat at a restaurant that knows how to perfectly cook fresh veg and NOT drown them in butter. And the salmon was delicious as well. I'm not one for tartar sauce, but yours is REALLY GOOD! Not just relish in mayo like most places. And my choice of garlic flat bread or in-house baked zucchini bread?!? Def gotta go with that zucchini bread! And a generous serving at that! Hubs was excited for pot roast and thoroughly enjoyed his meal. I liked that his veggies were traditional pot roast staples, peas, carrots and cubed potatoes and the gravy looked very yummy. He appreciated he could choose a baked potato over mashed. He went with the flat bread garlic, which seemed like a 1/4 slice of a pita, so not too big, but he doesn't care for zucchini, so he was happy. I had enough room to answer the call of the baked in-house, and apparently "signature", carrot cake that was ringing my line. Yum! Moist and fresh and a perfect amount of icing. Gina is a workhorse and a lovely team member. Made us feel like we were dining regulars. Many booths around us did seem to be just that. Couples, families, friends of all ages seem to fill this restaurant. Shakers was a delightful surprise! We really dug the Mid Century Modern interior and your shout out to NCR technology - a retired cash register gleaming in the spotlight! Thanks for a great meal and delightful dining experience. Had some time to kill and found this place on a copliot suggestion where to have a breakfast burrito so I decided to take a chance. It's an '80s vibe diner style with comfy booths. They were pretty busy at 8:00 a.m. on a Saturday but did not wait for a seat. Ordered the $17 burrito and was expecting something to be handheld but they do it ranchera style with red sauce and cheese topped all around it and on the sides and I'm glad they did because it was delicious. Well worth it; I eat burritos half this size for the same price in downtown LA. Ordered a side of hash browns they were solid as well. Only gripe would be that there wasn't much bacon or sausage in it (comes with both but needs more of both.) Melaniya served me proper. This was a great start we'll definitely be back to try the waffles always a gamble finding a crisp one, but they claim it so we will find out soon enough. It's a bit stuffy inside and loud as hell strange for a diner to be this loud but just saying. Still for what I ate it's an easy table pounder five star. I was just passing through the area on my way to Denny's. When I realized we were next to Shakers, we decided to try it out. As soon as we got there, the parking lot was packed. That's a sign of a great restaurant. When we went in, the servers were welcoming and it was packed on a Friday morning. We waited a few minutes before getting to our table and our server Gabby was the sweetest. She suggested the omelette (I forgot what specific type) and I'm so glad I took her suggestion. My food was awesome, a lot better than I was expecting. At first, I thought my portion was a little small, but I couldn't even finish my plate! The food is filling, flavorful, and everything was perfect. The positive ambience is a reflection of the quality service, food, and overall perspective of this restaurant. I thought it was so beautiful to see a bunch of elderly people coming for a morning mimosa, having coffee, reading, newspapers, and just mingling with each other. It gave me something to look forward to when I get older. I got a little sad when I seen a few elderly people alone. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles. Others had the Corned Beef Benedict. The portion size looks good. After tasting the food, we were disappointed that nothing tasted like home made. You get to choose a side for free (or additional $1 if you want sweet potato fries) Everything was packaged nicely. Pot Roast: beef was tender, sourdough was crispy. Visited Sunday morning. Short wait, maybe 15 minutes. But, we noticed they were calling people that came after us. So we went to hostess stand and asked. They had our name crossed out saying they called us and nobody answered. Flat out lie. We were glued to the person calling names. We were not called. But they then did seat us quickly. Wife and I both got 2 egg breakfasts, hers with turkey sausage. Food did take forever to come out. Around half hour or so. Maybe we need to try some other dishes, because the eggs and hash browns were no better than Denny's. Turkey sausage was a large patty, but was overcooked and lacked flavor. I was going to try their "famous" carrot cake, but decided not to after the dining experience. Carrot cake is my favorite, so I may pick up a slice in the future to try. It's a long time I haven't been to Shakers I remember the food was really good. My wife was telling me the food is really she often go to Shaker with her co workers for lunch. Now my wife and I going to Shakers for early dinner. The restaurant looks the same but it hasn't changed since I was here. We step in the restaurant and right away we got seated and the host hand us the menu and waitess came to order our drinks. Then we look at the menu and see what to order my wife decided to get the Shaker Delight burger with Sweet potato fries. I decided to get the California club with fruit cup. We got to watch the open ceremony of the world series with the tribute to Fernando Valenzuela it was nice and the waitess brought us our meal. My California club look so good then I took bite it was really good I can taste the avocado,bacon,turkey and toasted wheat bread combine together wow so much flavors including the mayo so good with avocado have that creamy taste it's mind blowing . The fruit cup I decided to get instead of the fries was a better choice a healthy choice. My wife enjoy her Shakers Delight burger she great flavors she love.
