Hmmm the food isn't bad, but if you are "meh" about waffles I would just bypass. There were only two people working and cooking so it took forever to order/pay/get the card back. But besides that, the waffle was pretty good. Not a place I would go back b/c I'm not a huge waffle person, also the portion may be small for someone who is super hungry (for a small person like me it's perfect) but the waffle was crispy and delicious! Breakfast waffle I got had crumbled bacon, cheddar cheese and I topped it with an egg. Really good with the savory and sweet. If I had to come back I would want to try out the dessert. read more

We went for brunch and it was delicious, as expected! The photos really are spot on. Ordered 1 savory (sausage) and 2 sweet (one speculoos and one traditional) for three people. Both sweet waffles trumped our savory (which I didn't personally try)! The boys said the speculoos was so good that they ordered another to go! They have started cold brew coffee and it was beautiful. We had two vanilla lattes and a red eye, everything was well flavored and refreshing. We randomly were in the mood for waffles and googled LA best places to eat waffles and the Shaky Alibi popped up. I had driven past it tons of time and never went in so this seemed like the perfect time to do so. We were instantly in love with the place when the owner of the restaurant came up to us and so sweetly explained what the Shaky Alibi was all about: the amazing waffles. It was the care in which he spoke about the food, where it comes from and how they make it that really made me fall in love. He gave us tastes of the Speculous (which sound like a Harry Potter spell) which is a graham cracker spread. It was so good! My gf ended up getting that on her waffle along with strawberries. You don't need syrup on these waffle because of the powdered sugar and other goodness that bake on it...trust me! The owner clearly loves what he does and wants to make sure that when you eat there you have a great experience and eat something you have never tasted before. I had never tasted a waffle quite like it. It was so tasty. You can pick a savory and or/ sweet waffle. We got both. We had the egg/sausage/gouda waffle sandwich (paired with syrup for this one) which the owner suggested. It was so great! The gouda was flown in from Germany. Worst service ever. No silverware on the table, even after food was served. Brought out coffee and never came back with creamer, so I had to ask another waitress for creamer. I ordered oatmeal that never showed up. Three out of four of us were served and I still waited for my oatmeal. Waitress never came by so I could tell her about my oatmeal. I went to Shaki Alibi on Friday morning after some co workers raved about the waffles and speculoos (some chocolatey, nutty topping). The waffle was not what you'd usually expect. It was dense and very small, about a quarter of regular size waffles but nice and thick, super moist with sugar crystals inside. Nice tasting and very fresh, but one will not fill you up. The staff is outstandingly friendly. I think everyone gets star treatment. I think they are still getting the seating arranged. Right now there are chairs at the bar area, but no tables. Everybody there (all of 3 people maybe) seemed fine with the arrangement. read more

If you have been to Belgium or Copenhagen and had waffles there, then you will totally appreciate Shaky Alibi. It is just like the European version of a waffle. You can eat them hot and fresh out a wax paper sleeve just like in Europe. It was absolutely fabulous! Coffee is good, too. I liked it, but I want to go back again. This is the type of place that you need to visit more than once. I think that some of the reviews are dead-on in that, as much as the owners want it to be a Euro hang-type place, it's LA and we want to sit and we want to surf - not the ocean, silly, the 'net. So they'll have to get some chairs and tables, etc., and wi-fi. Sounds reasonable. After all, the boyfriend and I snagged the only table in the place and we both really needed it to cut our waffle, which was good, but I can't imagine eating it standing up, especially if you got it the way my boyfriend did, with a bunch of toppings. Speaking of the only outdoor table, it does need to be put together a little more. My boyfriend pointed out the base that was sort of not quite screwed in correctly, and the glass table top was just sitting on top of the table - not connected at all. We were cautious, but still. The food? Well, I'm a sucker for a waffle. That said, next time, I'd try the savory. I liked the sweet, but I'm not a fan of those huge sugar clumps inside. But, to be fair, I did not know I was not a fan until I tried this waffle. But I loved the flavor of the batter itself, which is yeast-based and really the best part about it was that it was SMALL, but very filling. Even after picking out the sugar, I still did not feel like I had over-indulged myself too much. OMG, food orgasm in the mouth. The owner whips up amazing waffles with very tasty coffees, and the best chai tea I have had in a while. we've passed it twice in a month and both time i stared at their sign, not shaky alibi but their sign that says Liege waffles, or what i like to call them, belgian street pretzel. what makes them so good is that they are great on its own. you don't need to drop a whole fruit basket to make it taste good or a 1/3 of a maple syrup jar. why? because of the pearl sugar which you can see when S.A. pours it into their waffle iron. liege waffles are sweeter and slightly heavier than a typical waffle and the reason i call them belgium pretzels is they're eaten mostly on the go. also these are the waffles you see all over belgium not the belgian waffles that we see in america. if there was one thing we ate in LA that day that made us talk about it on the drive home was Shaky's Liege Waffle. it was killer and authentic... great food but worst customer service. Management needs to check their staff. I came here today close to closing and at first the cashier/server was ok- not welcoming or anything just ok. We sit down, order our food and what not, everything is going fine. I also see the female cashier/server head over to the restroom (which is disgusting btw) with her apron still on. Um, is that against health code? Anyways, we finish eating and we had gotten separate checks. I wasn't here for this part, but apparently she had asked my younger sister if she wanted to add gratuity to the card and my sister replies no. She asks if she did anything wrong, and my sister just says no. She immediately starts being rude to us, harshly swiping our cards, tossing the receipts to us, and throws the pen for us to sign... umm, okay? For the record, we often tip in cash to give directly to the server. Worst attitude and customer service ever! So yes, there are two types of people- back of the house and front of the house. This is a review only concerning cleanliness. I didn't stay long enough to say anything about their service or food. As soon as I walked in the place was empty on a Sunday for brunch.. I sat at a table in the front by the window and the seat cushions were so stained and gross looking and the table and menus were so sticky and dirty. After a few minutes of looking over the menu a huge spider crawled up my leg and I look down there was nothing but dead bugs literally all over the window sills and floor that looked like it hasn't been swept or cleaned in a good year at least. Then I look over on the other side of the floor and there was a huge dead cockroach laying right by where I was sitting. Oh my goodness, it was so good! The portions are meant to satisfy and not to indulge, so don't expect Griddle Cafe sized portions. Our server was friendly and quite informative. He was genuinely excited for us to be there for the very first time and even gave us samples of different spreads, so we could make our orders. The Liège Waffles that comprise the center of the menu offering are dead on to what you'll find on the medieval cobble stone streets of Belgium. I go to this place nearly every morning for my coffee, since it's right by my work, and occasionally eat here. They have decent coffee, I usually go for the cafe au lait. The place has a very cafe feel to it. When I do eat here, I go for the Onion Special (or at least I think that's what it's called). It's a waffle, with some kind of fruit jam, bacon bits, bleu cheese, and hot sauce (and also an egg, if you pay more). It's delicious, but it's also grossly overpriced for the portion. If you like bougie waffles, you should definitely come here. Be prepared to drop like $15 on a waffle and coffee, though! read more

He seemed like he wasn't happy to work there which is understandable but at least make your customers feel welcomed. Here's the thing. 5-star food. The waffles are incredible. Unbelievably good. I was transported to a snowy Belgian Christmas Morning, eating the crispy, doughy waffle inside of a cozy cabin. The chai tea was delicate, balanced, delicious. The service, however, was atrocious. My boyfriend and I were told to take a seat and wait for a server to take our order. The table had not been cleaned from the previous customer and never was during our meal. We were promptly forgotten about for about thirty minutes, despite being seated directly in front of the registered, in the line of sight of everyone behind the bar. I finally went to place our order at the register because we were tired of waiting, and was treated rudely by the cashier who insisted I take a seat again and they'd come to us. I told her we'd been waiting for anyone to come by and acknowledge us and it wasn't happening, so I'd like to finally just place the order. After another 15 minutes they brought out half of our order and forgot the other half. We had to remind them of the rest of our order. Cmon. It wasn't that busy in the cafe, there were several empty tables. The service was honestly frustrating and really left a bad taste in my mouth (unlike the waffles haha). read more

At first, I thought, "what a pretentious load of crap", when the owner explained how the milk was brought in from a farm near by that makes milk designed for coffee, and other glorious descriptions about the ingredients. I now happily eat those words as often as I can. What this place is all about for me is attention to detail. The first thing I noticed was the cup my dopio espresso came in. It was a double walled boudin espresso mug. Since we were sitting outside, that went a long way for me. The coffee was one of the best I've ever tasted. Strong, but not bitter. I enjoyed every sip. Then, my life changed. I was introduced to the magical world of speculoos. I like the crunchy, but the creamy is nice too. Don't let it distract from the rest of the menu though. Everything they offer is great. We ordered a savory waffle with black forrest ham, and cheddar cheese. The owner brought out a bottle of hot sauce that was carefully selected to fit the flavors offered. It was the perfect touch. With the weather getting warmer, I can't wait to try the ice cream waffles, and last time we were there we found out that Shaky will be offering new options on a rotational basis. So, don't stay away too long, you might miss your favorite combination of all. Shaky Alibi is our payday/parents-in-town-breakfast-place-of-choice! The liege waffles are amazing! Never had anything like them. The menu can be quite pricey since the portions are what I would call "European-sized" and any toppings other than the standard powered sugar are extra (but worth it). The vanilla latte is good and any of their specialty seasonal waffles are great. The name is definitely misleading, and although cute, is better suited for a milkshake place. The inside is very small and doesn't have great lighting so I'd ask to sit outside if it's open. If you sit in the back half of the restaurant, you will be smack next to the restroom or their closet sized staff office which they leave open and can be a bit weird while you're eating. read more

The owner was there and he took his time explaining all the coffees and food items in the menu. He made sure our first time here would be good. I got an iced latte - pretty good and the owner blends and roasts his own beans. We both ordered savory waffles and were pleasantly surprised that they were good.
