Got one of these blueberry pies during Thanksgiving. It wasn't too overwhelmingly sweet like most other pies. However the pie seemed to have some kind of filler since the color wasn't the bright purple that a blueberry pie typically is. It wasn't until I seen the price I said wow. $25 for an 8" pie. I first tasted their seasonal pumpkin pie at the Portola Valley Farmers Market here on the San Francisco peninsula each Thursday between 3 and 7 PM. I found Shampas at my local farmers market and I'm now on a $7/wk mini pie budget. If I bought a full one I'd be in trouble. So far I've tried the pecan, sweet potato, peach and blackberry crumble and I literally can't pick a favorite. I asked my +1 to pick a favorite and he couldn't either, they're all so good especially the crust - it's not so sweet it's a perfect complement to the pie fillings which also won't give you a cavity. Best homemade pies in the Bay Area. Legit made from scratch pies. I was looking to get some pies for the big game and came across Shampa's on yelp. The bakery closed however when I called I'm not sure of the gentlemen's name offered to drop off the pies to me. I ordered to sweet potato pie which was to die for, it tasted like pie from the south. We also ordered the lemon strawberry pie which was also so delicious and so tart. I wanted the peach cobbler which was unavailable (it's not peach season) which was good to know because he doesn't use any of the canned stuff you know! Got a variety of 4" Shampa's Pies from their booth at the Outer Sunset Farmers Market this past Sunday. They're just the right size for a single serving and I loved the variety. I got two lemon strawberry pies, a key lime pie, a blueberry, and a sweet potato. They were soooo good!! My husband ate a couple of the pies before I could take pictures, but I managed to get one of a lemon strawberry and the sweet potato. My husband thought the crust was a bit thick on the berry pie, but I had a small bite and the crust was so buttery that it was like a shortbread cookie; I didn't mind the thickness at all... and the tartness of the berry complemented the sweetness of the crust perfectly. The lemon strawberry was the also the perfect blend of sweet and tart. I ate it cold and it was very lemony with a hint of strawberry...so delicious! I still have the sweet potato pie in the refrigerator; I'll probably warm that one up in my toaster oven before eating it... warm sweet potato pie can't be beat, especially with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I used to be someone that would "spread the love" at various bakeries. But these days I will only get my pies from Shampa's. Not the cheapest, but neither are the ingredients. The last pecan bourbon pie was stuffed with the high dollar nuts. The sweet potato-ginger tastes like they use fresh ginger. The staff is always wonderful and can be very accommodating, just be a nice decent human and they treat you the same. Pro tip: they rarely have hand pies available at the store, as they sell at farmers markets. This shop delights me because it specializes in pies. Best: peach/apple/blueberry cobbler. The topping is crispy, crumbly, and buttery. Runner up: strawberry rhubarb cobbler. If those aren't available, I'll happily get whatever cobbler is. The chocolate pie is excellent as well, with the chocolate being dense and fudge like, but not too sweet. I don't prefer the lemon chess pie, and honestly the key lime pie tastes just like it (not creamy and soft), so I'll pass on that one too. Their sweet potato pie specifically is life changing (and my personal favorite) and the strawberry rhubarb is amazing as well. I love a good pecan or sweet potato pie. This is a locally owned and operated business and dammit, they've got the best pecan and sweet potato pies I've ever had. Flaky buttery crust and the filling is not so sweet that you're teeth'll fall out. They offer a good selection of pies that come in different sizes. Driving down Palmetto you will miss this place. No outdoor signage and no regular store front hours but don't let that turn you away. I went to Daly City Farmer's Market and saw Shampa's. Since it seems like it is close to the end of the world, I wanted some goodies to make life at home more bearble. I got a box of 6, and they have been amazing. I didn't eat each one, but the two I tried were INCREDIBLE. Strawberry lemon was flaky, custardy and perfect sweet/tart. And the apple cobbler had a bit of saltiness to make it really stand out. I also heard that the chocolate and pecan were very well appreciated as well. I will definitely be getting these pies again. I found this Pie stand at a farmers market down in San Mateo. He handed out samples of the pie fillings which was so helpful for me to make a decision. I met owner Haruwn Wesley at the Millbrae Art and Wine festival and mentioned that he should be making gluten free pies. Well, guess what? He DOES!! GF, Diary free, vegan, and most likely a couple I am missing. I am sitting here munching on his GF blackberry cobbler which I believe has a hint of cinnamon in it and just wow! The crust is crunchy and to me tastes like buttery graham crackers. It's perfect. You can order online and pick up at a handful of farmer's markets or the bakery. Came across Shampa's at the Treasure Island street fair. Bought full sized sweet potato and pecan pies. The three men selling them had great personalities. Overall, the pies were fabulous. Crust was perfect; not thick in taking away from the filling. Downside is that I agree with one reviewer the price point is high, but fair price if for holidays and gift giving. Additionally, it is supporting a local business so big thumbs up for Shampa's. Will definitely drop by for July 4th and Thanksgiving. read more
