    MEDIUM HOMEMADE PEACH COBBLER

This place came as a recommendation from our rental car rep at the airport. We were ravenous after flying into Savannah and wanted to grab a hearty lunch before our drive an hour away. Located in a large shopping center, Shane's is situated in a corner with ample parking. We came in when they'd just opened for the afternoon and our cashier was so sweet and patient. We asked for her recommendations and ended up with a filling lunch. Our 3YO loved the Mac and Cheese & was treated by our food runner with some ice cream. The restaurant is a local favorite and family owned. They are very active in the community and known for fundraising opportunities. The food was delicious and I swear we gained 5 pounds each. We settled into loaded buffalo chicken fries and 2 plates. There was an assortment of hot sauces and homemade bbq sauces. I loved that they had a sink available to patrons (bbq gets messy) as well as a to-go station to pack up any extras you may need (utensils, sauces, wipes, & takeout boxes). The staff was great and super friendly. And we were presented with house made peach cobblers.... Probably the best I have ever had! We asked for 1 extra to go! It was sweet, flaky, buttery, but had a taste of savory caramel flavors. Perfect with vanilla ice cream! If you are ever in Savannah and within 2-4 miles of the airport, please give Shane's a try!

This was my first and last time trying this place. It was recommended to me by a friend. The environment was cool, good music and clean. The staff were extremely nice and friendly. The food... lord the food was terrible. The meat was so tough to the point it was hard to bite into and chew. The mac & cheese literally was Kraft Easy Mac...I ended up sending that back for fries. The fries were sadly the best part of my meal. If fast food Bbq was a place... it'd be this place

Alright, so maybe I was just really hungry. Maybe it was because I got lucky and got them on a good day. But I really enjoyed my meal here. Granted, it's a business that runs along the same vein as a Dickey's; however, I can't stand Dickey's. My experiences with that chain here in S.A. a few years back is the reason why I refuse to return. So allow me to switch gears and come back to the review on Shane's. My family had told me they really enjoy Shane's and were determined to take me out here on my last visit. And that they did. Now my mom being the person that she is decided for me what I should get. From there, my only choice was my drink and whether or not I wanted chicken or pork. And of course, as I was trying to decide, she kept saying 'pork' in my ear. LOL I love that woman, I swear. I went against the grain and ordered chicken. She ordered the sampler for me which consisted of ribs, chicken strips, two sides, and pork or chicken (as I just mentioned). Oh and toast. I should have listened to her when she insisted on the pork because the chicken was a little dry. Everything else though was so good. The meat was fall-off-the-bone and seasoned well, the chicken strips were fried fresh and went well with their homemade sauces. As for the sides, I ordered green beans and fries. I enjoyed the green beans immensely. Granted, I have considered myself a Texan since I don't know when (California transplant though) and I am fully aware of 1. there are different regions and flavors of BBQ 2. I have always preferred Texas BBQ and 3. this is a chain. So I tried not to go in with any expectations and I suppose it worked for me. It was good for what it was - fast food BBQ. The cashier was helpful and patient as we were a large group coming in right before the lunch rush. She even came and checked in on us a couple of times after we got our food.

Looking back, we probably should've kept right on walking. We ordered the fried chicken, potato wedges, red rice, New Orleans rice, and cabbage, jalapeno cornbread and pecan cornbread. Unfortunately, the only things we actually enjoyed were the fried chicken and the potato wedges. Once again, it was an epic fail. The cabbage tasted like it had been boiled in plain water with absolutely no seasoning. Both the red rice and the New Orleans rice reminded us of Minute Rice or Uncle Ben's microwavable rice--bland, lacking flavor, and nothing like the rich, seasoned rice dishes we were expecting. The fried chicken was crispy, juicy, and well-seasoned, and the potato wedges were cooked perfectly, but those two items weren't enough to save the meal. We came hoping for authentic Southern comfort food, but left disappointed. Sadly, this is one restaurant we won't be adding to our list of places to revisit.

They're open from 11:00-2:00, and the meal is a communal dining experience, so you'll likely be sharing a table with other guests. The experience is definitely a bit rushed. You don't exactly have unlimited time to slowly enjoy your fried chicken, sweet tea, and every dish on the table, but that's also part of the charm. For $35 plus gratuity (cash only, so come prepared), you get an enormous spread of comforting, homemade Southern food. It's an incredible value, especially considering the variety and quantity. The location itself is a bonus - it sits on one of the prettiest streets in downtown Savannah, so the walk and surroundings add to the experience. The food is classic Southern cooking with a little bit of everything. The table comes loaded with dishes like sausage rice, pulled pork, beef stew, fried chicken, and an assortment of sides. My biggest tip: don't eat breakfast or have a big meal beforehand - you'll want the room. There is a lot of food, and you'll want to try as much as possible. My favorites were the creamed corn, greens, and the beans/lentils. The fried chicken was also one of the best versions I've had - crispy, flavorful, and exactly what you hope for from a Southern comfort food spot. Service is fast and efficient, which is necessary given how they run the dining room. Listen to their instructions when you arrive - they have two adjoining rooms, and they'll guide you where to sit. By the time you're settled, much of the food is already arriving at the table. A must-do Savannah experience if you enjoy traditional Southern food and don't mind a lively, communal, fast-paced meal.

The service was warm and attentive, and the whole experience felt genuine rather than staged for tourists. For anyone visiting Savannah, Mrs. Wilkes is a must. Come hungry.

Being a barbecue place and proud of their brisket I went with the two meat combo, including brisket and pulled chicken. By recommendation of our server, she suggested we go with the marble brisket, and I must say that selection was outstanding. Arguably the best brisket I've ever had, and I've had and a lot of it. It truly did melt in your mouth. Plenty of meat and plenty of flavor. Not to be out done, but the pulled chicken was also equally fabulous. Very moist very tasty. The meal kicked off with buttered biscuits. Those were outstanding. They'll also bring you more if you want. But watch it they're not exactly low-calorie.
