Very pleasantly surprised today with a DoorDash order. The food came in a can container, love the packaging and how the saucy food is well kept and never spills. Their pan fried bun is really good; full of juice inside. The scallion noodle is tasty and the veggie and ham rice is just comforting to the stomach. The XLB has thin wrapping and yet resilient when being picked up by my chopsticks. The pork belly with quail egg was flavorful as the meat and eggs soaked up the sauce flavor. I only found the thick noodle stir fry a bit too salty as I got to the bottom where the soy sauce remained. The tofu with crab roe was good, soft tofu in squares and sumptuous crab roes. If the take out quality is this good, maybe the dine in visit will be even better. read more

First time here since they changed their name to Shanghai Bun Dynasty. I was told the owner and chef stay the same, only the wait staff is different. The ambiance is nice and peaceful, with tables spaced a good distance apart. It was rather quiet on a Tuesday at lunch time. Our waitress was very nice and complied with our request to have our dishes served at a slow pace so that they didn't get cold. We ordered a Meaty Soupy Pork Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao), Pan Fried Buns, Stir-Fried Shanghai Noodles, and Small Wontons. The only dish I did not care for were the small wontons, very thick wrappers with very little meat inside. The other three were all very delicious. I especially liked the Pan Fried Buns and the Shanghai Noodles, really well-prepared. This is a very nice and solid Shanghainese restaurant. Prices are okay. read more

Hole in the wall Chinese restaurant that I recommend. All the customers that ate there were Chinese which was an awesome indicator that the foods bomb. We were in the area and as usual, I was so indecisive about what to eat so my husband just went ahead and decided for us lol We came for lunch and it was pretty empty so service was quick. I asked for a paper menu 'cause I was being lazy but the server said they didn't have any even though I saw some by the front lol We ordered: - Scallion Oil Noodle with dried shrimp: Not a fan, tasted plain to me. Hubby thought it was alright. - Steamed Pork Bun: It was pretty big but when you bite into it, the filling was so tiny. It was practically all bun lol - Steamed Mushroom Dumplings: Wasn't a fan of the filling, there was so much going on lol thought it would have just been lots of mushroom lol - Yangzhou Fried Rice: Was alright, they put spam in it haha didn't really taste like the Yangzhou fried rice that I know of lol - Tofu with Crab Roe: This was both our favorite, we finished the entire dish lol There were small pieces of crab and the flavor was just delicious! - Braised Pork Belly with quail eggs: Was okay, the meat wasn't too tender but the sauce was flavorful. Here is my two cents on the quality quantity and price of my order. GrubHub delivered it to me in a timely manner.. but did not follow the instructions. He failed to bring it to my room and he failed to actually give it to any personnel.. I ordered stirfry noodles with shrimp for an extra dollar. I also got six pieces of pan fried buns.. Stirfry was $18 and the buns were $13. But really surprised and impressed me I guess was the container that it was brought in . It was in a metal container the way you would pop it open like a can of ... there was lots of noodles and what again surprise me was all the shrimp that I found on the bottom of the container! It was great I guess my taste buds did not like the pan fried buns.. They were OK just I did not like them.. One thumbs up, they gave me soy sauce and hot pepper oil, which I requested. Thank you. . But the biggie they failed to provide either forks or chopsticks to eat my meal, and there was no napkins. Otherwise, they probably would've got five stars . read more

I'm new to Shanghai cuisine, it must have shown on my face as I was studying the menu because the kindly chef came out of the kitchen and recommended his personal favorite dish, the one that he is most proud of - the Shanghai smoked fish - and he was kind to bring me a sample to taste (it's normally $65 for the whole fish as part of a 4 dish pre fixe menu, but I was by myself). His kindness, courteousness, and welcoming spirit was already a win, but then I tasted the delicious fish and it was wonderful - crispy on the outside, with a smoky almost citrus flavor, and the sweet and delicate sauce poured over it was unlike anything I had tasted, it's a must try for sure! Also, each of the pork xiao long bao produced a full "tang geng" (Chinese soup spoon's worth) of rich, flavorful, steaming hot sweet soup broth, the soupiest and brothiest soup dumplings I have ever tasted! The restaurant is now named Shanghai Bun Dynasty, I will definitely be back next time I'm in the area to try more of their signature dishes! I love that Chinese cuisine is so varied, so many regional cuisines to learn and appreciate! While their menu is intriguing (it includes some dishes from multiple regions - Taiwanese, Hainanese, Jiangnan dishes, even Chao Zhou's famous "mui choy cou yook") - the specialty here is Shanghainese, so if you're new to it don't be afraid to ask for some recommendations, they are all so nice! All of the wait staff are super tall, presumably northern Chinese, as compared to their petite cousins, the southern Chinese! I felt so warmly welcomed to try their cuisine, was so grateful they introduced me to their specialties with so much kindness. There was no pork in the mapo tofu pork and so many Szechuan peppercorns that I couldn't taste anything else. The hot and sour soup was not bad but contained practically no tofu or pork and lacked flavor. So disappointing. read more

Checked out this restaurant because I wanted soup dumplings. The interior is really pretty and they even have a private room for larger parties. We ordered the cold chicken appetizer, soup dumplings, fried bun, and scallion oil noodles. The prices are decent for what it is but the dishes are a smaller portion. The xiao long bao had a lot of soup but the pork meat was smaller and lacked flavor that other XLB places have.The fried buns were hot and fresh and juicy but are smaller than usual, the dough didn't have much flavor. The cold chicken appetizer was good with the soy sauce and oil. The scallion noodles were salty and oily and can use more scallion oil. The restaurant filled up and some people had to wait for a table. Not the best XLB place but good prices. read more
