When we got there we went straight to the bar to order a drink, put in our order, and then watched the bartender help two other people before getting back to us only to say they were out of the beer I ordered. There are only 5 beers on tap, so being out of one seemed odd to me. Then she told me they were out of table numbers so she would just put my food by a palm tree. She had zero interest in actually finding out where I was sitting. Once we finally got our drinks and were chatting with friends someone came over and told us that the kids could not play bocce unless they are over 10 or being supervised by an adult, which they were. She continued to complain to us over the next hour about several children, many of which were not mine or my friends. We had a party of 20-30 people. She finally told us we all needed to leave. I was shocked!! She didn't care which kids were ours, just told us all to leave. My daughter was doing nothing!!!! This place is in not kid or family friendly at all. This is actually the second time we have had issues here. A few years back we were denied entrance with our daughter who was 5 at the time. Beware!! This place is incredibly unfriendly!!! Follow up- Thank you for your response. It is worth mentioning that the two older girls you mentioned were not with our group and that mother was never talked to and was allowed to stay. I also wanted to mention that the restaurant was empty when we arrived at 4:30 and if you are not able to accommodate guests you should probably rethink your business model. No excuse!!!! read more

Shangri-La has great vibes, perfect for a relaxing time. The outdoor patio seating is beautiful, with lots of greenery and misters that keep it cool. The atmosphere feels very Palm Springs, very vacation-like. I love that they have games to play, which adds to the fun. The food on the menu is delicious, especially the crab deviled eggs--they were amazing! They also have some great drinks and beers, but the menu is quite limited, with only a few options for appetizers and dinner. Overall, I'm giving it four stars, but I'll definitely be back for the vibes. read more

First let me say.. MMMMM! This place is so cute! My friend and I ordered the fish tacos, one is fried and the other grilled (so happy that they gave the option). We had Cesar Salad and Deviled Eggs for the appetizer.. they actually change the flavor of the Deviled Eggs, this time is was Greek Salad inspired. It was perfect! We typically have a great experience at Shangri-La, but this time was extremely disappointing. The service was slow and disorganized. Our server, Leslie (SP?), was inattentive--we never received a kids' menu despite asking, and our drinks took forever to arrive. The food was delayed and didn't come out at the same time, making it difficult to enjoy the meal together. We asked for refills on water, which took a long time but eventually arrived. We also requested a chair that was never brought and had to ask three times for hot cocoa before finally getting it. They informed us that they ran out of fish and substituted it with shrimp, but the overall experience was already frustrating. When our cocktails were finally served, half of the drink had spilled onto the tray while being carried, yet no effort was made to correct it or offer a replacement. We're pretty sure our waitress chose not to put forth any effort because of the party size and the automatic gratuity, which was added without any prior notice. On top of that, one member of our party accidentally tipped on top of the automatic gratuity. When they went to the manager to correct it, Leslie came out and was very rude, saying, "This is coming out of my own pocket." Instead of handling the situation professionally, she made us feel uncomfortable for simply asking for a fair resolution. Overall, a very frustrating experience, and we hope management addresses these issues. read more

we went here for the winter market and i loved it!!! great selection of local businesses. we were able to sit down after some shopping and enjoy some of the drinks and food they had to offer. we enjoyed the winter themed drinks like the spiked hot chocolate. we also had the deviled eggs with chicken on top and truffle fries. both very delicious. i'd like to come back and try their other items. :-) read more

I love Shangri-la! However, during my last dinner there, there were several small children running around the outdoor area screaming. The restaurant advertises that children and families are welcome. Their menu is carefully developed to include a variety of options. I highly recommend their Cesar salad with Salmon paired with Prosecco. We arrived as the doors were opening and a short line had already formed. Once we made it inside, we were promptly seated and a server introduced themselves shortly after. We went on Saturday after the "happy hour". The menu said "fountain drinks", so I ordered a Coke. The drink was flat as it could be -- almost as if it had been made with flat water instead of carbonated. I asked our server to take it back as it was undrinkable, and asked for an iced tea, which she said was fresh brewed. It took a little while to get out to me because they were brewing it. At first I thought she had brought me a lemonade, but it was supposedly "iced tea". There was plenty of ice in the drink and water, but not enough "tea" to even turn the water a reasonable tan color. I asked three times that no lemon be put in my drink, and it came with a wedge of lemon floating on the top. I ordered the burger and fries (which were $5 extra). I don't think any fry was longer than three inches, and most were just one to two inch stubs. I ordered the burger medium, and it was served just a big above rare. There was a nice assortment of veggies on the burger, but the bun was stale and would not hold together. One of my companions got the wrong salad, another one had to send her wine back because it "tasted like medicine". That companion also ordered the riblet appetizer, and they were dry -- no sauce at all. She couldn't eat them. I became sick when I got home and I don't know if it was from the undercooked meat or not. But I will certainly not be going back there. I was disappointed because it opened just as we were moving out of Fair Oaks, and this my first opportunity to try it. read more

Super cute little spot tucked away in Fair Oaks. This spot is near where I get my lashes done. A friend and I decided to enjoy dinner there tonight and try it out. The outside seating area is where the money is, but unfortunately for us, it was raining. However, Shangri-La did not disappoint. Wonderful wait staff, great vibe and amazing food. It is a tad bit on the pricey side but honestly, it's not too bad. We shared the deviled eggs (chefs special which was jalepeno stuffed) and some Brussels sprouts. I recently came here for dinner with girlfriends. I highly recommend making reservations, especially on a Friday/Saturday/Sunday! The vibe is very on point with their Palm Springs theme. We started with a round of alcoholic slushees. Their menu online listed an Ube-Guava-Colada Slushee, but it was not available. Instead, we got a passionfruit flavor, which was okay. It was a bit tart, and the Nerds candy pieces kept getting stuck in my straw. We then ordered a handful of small bites, including the Crispy Brussel Sprouts, Deviled Eggs, Stone Fruit & Burrata Panzanella, Grilled Riblets, and Garlic Shrimp. The Grilled Riblets were my favorite! The mojo-scallion jus was to die for. After a few rounds of drinks, we need more food. We ordered the Butcher's Cut Steak and Shang Burger. By the end of dinner, we were stuffed and could not even think of dessert. I made a reservation two weeks in advance for a Friday night date night. We arrived about 10 minutes early and they were able to seat us outside right away. They're really known for their outside area so I'd recommend sitting outside if you can. The inside is nice but I thought the overhead lighting was a little bright. We ordered the old fashioned and the non alcoholic lemon roots cocktail, both of which weee delicious! We shared the deviled eggs as an appetizer - they rotate the type of deviled eggs and they were mixed with cream cheese, everything but the bagel seasoning, and topped with smoked salmon. The cream cheese was a little much for me but fun that they change up the types of deviled eggs! I was tempted to order the burger but had had a burger for lunch so opted for the veggie burger. I subbed the edamame hummus for the Shang sauce which is on the burger and I definitely think that was the way to go. My husband got the fried chicken and really enjoyed it - it came with a chili honey glaze which was a flavorful and different addition. The food was good but nothing that is causing me to be dying to go back there tomorrow. We were invited to Shangri-la to celebrate my cousins birthday and we were so happy they chose this place because it is so fun and cute! We were the first to arrive for a party of 7 - the staff helped us as we arrived at all different times. There's a huge outdoor area with games and a bar and heaters (January) so it was a comfortable and fun wait! Once we all arrived, we were seated and we put in drink orders. The drinks came and we put in the apps and entree orders. The staff was SO patient and nice while all the couples started an order then asked if they were sharing, then resumed their orders again with the attention span of a bunch of squirrels. The food options had something for everyone, but a cool thing that I don't usually see is that they have a rotating deviled egg on the menu! The day we visited it was a pepperoni pizza deviled egg special. So cool! The food and drinks were all so good and service was so good. Perfection! Shangri-La in Fair Oaks is the epitome of a fabulous time! This is our new hang out, and if you want to come hang out, this is exactly where you will find me. Yes, it's that fabulous. It's like an upscale adult experience that's comfortable and relaxing all at the same time. This isn't a place that you necessarily describe only by words, but definitely by The experience. The drinks are some of the best adult libations in the area. Perfectly mixed, stirred, and shaken. It's all that, and the rocks! Darlin', the Cosmo is all that! To be able to have a lovely plate of french fries as an appetizer with dipping sauces...if that doesn't bring out the inner child in you, or the fabulous adult that you are, eat more and enjoy more. The fries are fabulous. Perfectly seasoned and it's always on my list of must haves. The riblets are another perfect appetizer. Oh so delicious. Meaty little morsels that will make you feel like it's impossible to share. They are. So my advice, order two! Because life is too short and dessert should always be first, you must have the pie. I don't even want to describe it, but I will. It's because you just need to go have it. Smooth, rich chocolate, peanut butter, yumminess all in one. Is it wrong to have this with a Cosmo? Great food is never wrong. Never. Have it all. Enjoy it all! What I absolutely love about Shangri-La is that you can sit indoors and enjoy drinks, appetizers, a meal, etc., or you can dine outside and sit around the lovely fire pits and play several of the outdoor games. Such an inviting atmosphere at Shangri-la. They have a huge outdoor seating area with fire pits and beautiful outdoor decor. They have a bar that seats outside as well as indoor. I ordered the fried half chicken. It was really tasty! Definitely beautiful plating on their food. Waitress was helpful and kind. Only downside was that there was an hour long wait at 7 pm on a Sunday evening. I understand it's a popular restaurant, but there was immediate seating indoor available (which doesn't have nearly as nice of an ambiance). Which makes me question why they don't just have their waiters just serve more table outside that were empty! I'll be back :) read more

There's a first for everything and after being opened since summer of 2019, yours truly, Donovan H. finally made it to one of Sacramento's most popular and Instagram-worthy restaurants/lounges. This is none other than "Shangri-la". The best way to truly describe this place is a 1960's retro-styled, Avant-garde, Palm Springs resort-like experience. And when I say that, I am talking a flow of palm trees, funky artwork, art decor, and a vibe like no other. Many reading this review may not know this but this was once the place where Russ Monroe's Funeral Home once stood for many years. I ended up booking reservations (one week in advance) through the Yelp app and came here with a group of people during the evening of Saturday 4/29/2023 at around 7:00pm. Since the parking lot itself is so small, it can be very difficult to find a spot. So a word of advice is to give yourself ample time prior to check-in. Once checked in, I was absolutely blown away with how the layout of this place as it is literally two restaurants in one. The inside was cozy, intimate, tropical, and lively when the outside was on a whole other level. Here you will find a Bocce ball court, a flowing waterfall of the name Shangri-la, a gazebo for private parties, and colorful retro-seating throughout. It almost resembles a Palm Springs hotel in Southern California overlooking the San Jacinto Peak Mountains. Our server's name was Ian and he was very attentive from start to finish. He provided all of us with iced waters and a carafe of water filled to the top. The water itself tasted purified and clean as if I was drinking this from a flowing waterfall. Now onto the drinks; I ended up ordering one of their newer drinks on their cocktail menu called "The Smoking Jacket". This was a gin-styled drink with a smoky infused lemon and hints of wood. We also started off with an order of their "Deviled Eggs" ($8 for 4 deviled eggs); these were loaded with tortilla strips, cilantro, and surrounded by fresh crunchy cabbage. Since we were more on the sharing side than enjoying a full-on meal, the small bites were the way to go. We also shared an order of their "Grilled Riblets" (for $15) which had BBQ dry rub complete with a creamy mojo-scallion jus sauce. For many people, you come here more for the experience as the food/drink prices are quite steep but I was pleasantly surprised with how the deviled eggs and riblets came out. Next time I do come here, I will give their burger and fish tacos a try. All in all, "Shangri-la Fair Oaks" is a must-try place; at least for the ambiance and experience. I think what would really raise the bar is adding some type of live music since all the music that I heard was indie-alternative, progressive-pop, and EDM music from a playlist. And as for the menu itself, it is impressive but if they could add a Sunday brunch to the mix (at least from spring to early fall), I am sure it could attract the audience. Keep in mind that they are closed Mon-Tue but are open Wed-Thu from 4:30-9:30pm, Fri-Sat from 4:30-10:30pm, and Sunday from 4:30-8:30pm. With that said and done, when you factor in the aesthetically pleasing ambiance, excellent customer service, progressive food and drink menu, and a wonderful location, I am giving Shangri-la a perfect 5-star rating. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants and it is worth the drive located in Fair Oaks, a suburb of Sacramento area. You have a choice of indoor or outdoor park like seating. Dog friendly. The ambience is very much eclectic and fun with the Palm Springs feel. Nice and welcoming staff who will also provide lap blankets when the weather is cool outside. There is also heat lamps if needed. The food presentation is great and taste fresh and delicious. They have a full bar with a selection of their own cocktail mix to choose from. Highly recommend for date night, girls night or getting together with special friends and family anytime. read more

They finally open on the Weekends between 1-4. They have a limited menu, their usual appetizers, salads which you can make into wraps and the Shang burger plus another entree which I can remember. Plus Drink Specials. So for lunch, this is totally self serve. You go to the bar and order from Greg or Ryan. Both are super friendly. Place your order, grab your own plates and silverware and they'll give you a number on a stick. Then the staff brings you your food directly to your table. Food came out quick, the entree and chard Russell sprouts were huge portions. I'm glad my wife and I spilt our burger. So juicy, meat tasted fabulous and their Shang sauce was Smacking Good. Took my wife here for her birthday on a Saturday night. Made reservations the same day, but it seems walk ins pretty much got seated right away. On the reservation I did write it was her birthday and hoping maybe they'd bring out a dessert or even acknowledge just by wishing happy birthday, but nuthin! I think the summary on this place is that it's a great vibe place for sitting outside, getting a few drinks, maybe some apps, playing some cornhole, etc.. At night with the bistro lights, it's a pleasant place to hang out. All of the food that we got was good, but nothing was mind blowing. There was nothing I had that I thought I need to come back here for this or that. From my memory we had fries, fish tacos, brussel sprouts, cornbread, riblets. My favorite was probably the riblets.. there was a green sauce on it that complemented nicely. Seeing as we live about 20 mins away. I doubt I'd ever come back unless to take out of towners, but if you live close I think it's still worth a try. read more

Saturday, 2/25/23 - Went to Shangri-la restaurant again tonight. Service here is excellent!!! Servers were all wonderful and tag team to make sure we were serviced. Foods were nicely presented and tasted great! We had a Winter Reflection drink, Salmon w/ coconut rice dish, crispy brussel sprouts, Panzanella salad, mixed greens w/ walnuts, New York Steak, & New York Steak with added shrimp. Everything tasted great and perfectly cooked. Bathroom was clean. We had a great time here. Our waitress Victoria is excellent and very personable. We made her laugh and had a great time with her.
