Snowy day today, both my partner and I got home late from work, needed dinner and a place that delivers. Instead of going the normal route of ordering Thai or Chinese, we stumbled upon Shawarma Inn as a top delivery place in Lincoln Square. My Mom and I tried it tonight and thought it was excellent. We had the vegetarian combo plate and the meat combo plate. The very nice waitress gave us a large salad (more than enough for two hungry people). She gave us a salad that had pickles, hot peppers, carrots, and some kind of cabbage. All were marinated in something very yellow and extemely tasty and tangy. Their baba ghanoush was very good (almost as good as the best baba at Pita Inn in Skokie). The hummus was bland. The meats were great, especially the shawarma. The chicken kabab was good too. They serve you a ton of delicious rice. And best of all, they give you a bowl of lentil soup there...not a cup but a bowl. It had a little curry taste to it that I loved but maybe not for everyone. We will definitely return. The food here was excellent for a long time! Shawarma sandwiches are delicious. The falafel sandwiches are also good, as are the salmon and catfish platters. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has declined precipitously over the last several months. Their rice no longer has flavor and just taste like yellow grease. I was recommended this place... I'm from Michigan where we have a plethora of good middle Eastern restraints to choose from and they're open very late. Not hard to find a place at 2am but here in Illinois is another story. I was happy hear this place was open 24 hours and drive a distance to get there. W walked past a few tables because there were crumbs on them. I wiped down our table but didn't think much about it. I hadn't eaten all day and it was after 11pm...I was starving and very excited to have some kebab and shawarma. I ordered the combo plate to START and was going to order a few more dishes to go. The girl who took our order was so incredibly rude, even though I drove far and hadn't eaten all day...I got up and left. I went to the counter and told her I wasn't going to stay because she was so rude. She didn't apologize, didn't seem to care and in fact seemed happy I was leaving. There has only been one other time in my life I have been so stunned by someone working in a customer service industry. I was so incredibly shocked. I wasn't about to eat the food as I wasn't sure what she would do to it in retaliation of me saying she was rude. I hoped this would be a place I could frequent but I won't go back again. The worst attitude from a server I have ever seen. The guy who was there didn't question a thing either when I said I was leaving because of her rudeness. Not a way to get new customers... Best lil spot on the northside in my opinion, parking can be a bit of a hassle if they are busy, but the food is well worth it.

This place is rock solid in terms of food. The meats are seasoned well and come prepared fresh. The menu has a pretty good diversity of dishes and you get a very good value. A $12 dinner is more than enough for one person, in fact I can guarantee you'll be taking stuff home. The hummus was excellent and I really dug how they lightly grilled the bread right before setting it on the table so it had that kind of smokey flavor of the charcoal. The lentil soup was kind of bland though, maybe they could garnish it up with some parsley before serving. However, all in all I'd definitely come back. The decor is bare bones, but that's fine by me as long as they deliver on the food, which they did. There are a few areas of improvement. First, why on earth would they drizzle vegetable oil in the hummus instead of olive oil?!? This would never happen in the middle east. Second the waitress, while nice, was really forgetful. Luckily we weren't in a rush, otherwise it would have been frustrating. Also, it would have been nice to have the option to get my shish kebab cooked at a temperature other than well done; perhaps I should have asked... Came in with a large group at around 1 am the other weekend and man was this place awesome!! The waiter seemed a bit snobby but once she greeted us her attitude changed completely. She remembered our very large order and when the food arrived it was all great! Best Middle Eastern food in and around Chicago. Food is really good, portion is really big and price is really reasonable. The combination plate comes with soup (lentil or white bean [I hate beans but I love the white bean soup cause it taste like chili]) and salad! The chicken shish kabab is better than the beef in my opinion. It taste better than the beef because it is really tender and juicy. All that for $12. You get full too. I ordered lentil soup and a vegetarian platter and boy was I happy! The soup was full of flavor, the rice is yellow and soft, the baba ghanoush was exactly how I like it. The price was downright inexpensive. Ok, so let's be clear -- this is not a 5 star restaurant. You want $100 meal with wine, fine dining, etc? This is not the place. I ordered the combination plate and was given a big portion of well-seasoned rice and meat that I dove into and even had great left-overs for the next day. Went there with friends from Church and had a good time there. Only complaint is that the parking lot is quite tight. However, it has a parking lot in an area that is not known for accessibility. Food is good. Same food as at the Shawarma Inn Park Ridge, but we needed to be in Lincoln Centre area at the time. The poor waitress was swamped, so that is my guess as to why we didn't seem to get waited on quite as quickly as I would have liked. We went here after getting a $25 gift certificate from Restaurant.com for $3 (minimum purchase of $35 +tax and 18% gratuity). If you can shield your eyes enough to get past the crazy flashing lights on the outside of the restaurant, you'll be glad you did. It's not a fancy restaurant, but the food is really fresh, delicious and, even without the restaurant.com deal, a great value for money. Their hummus was some of the best I've had as was their lentil soup which had a wonderful smokey flavor (the white bean soup was very tasty and hearty also). Their chicken shawarma was delicious, rice was cooked to perfection and portions were HUGE (especially the combination plate). Our meals were served with a tahini sauce and a really yummy garlic sauce (mmmmm). The only item I didn't LOVE was the falafel, which was a little bit well done and not as tasty as I expected (though still good and totally edible--just not as surprisingly delicious as our other food options). We bought two apps and two entrees and fed two adults and a very hunger toddler and almost have enough food left over for two adult meals! The soup, along with the basket of pita, could have been a meal by itself and was probably one of the best lentil soups I've had. I am a student at Northeastern Illinois University and come often for some lunch during my break between classes. Their lentil soup is so tasty and hits the spot on those chilly days. The hummus and pita bread is always fresh. I have had their combo platter with steak and/or chicken and both are delicious. All of their servings, except their sandwiches are fairly large portions. I always take a box home or feel incredibly full. I see some complaints about the service here but I have never received unfriendly service. read more
