The food was incredible! Their biscuits and gravy are worthy of any southerner. And that cinnamon roll was SO I good I got one to go! The staff was helpful and generous and went out of their way to make us feel like family. We ate on their patio and had a beautiful view of Pikes Peak while we ate. Breakfast being my favorite dine out meal - I've really been wanting to stop in & try this place. I'm so glad I finally went. Great vibe, nice mixed crowd, cool decor & really friendly staff that serves up good home style food. I had hashbrowns an egg, piece of sausage & a piece of French toast. All well made. This is a favorite breakfast spot for my kids so we hit it up on a Saturday morning. My son in law warned me that Sandy's is popular and wait times can be long on the weekend. We arrived and put our name in, there was a 20 minute wait. Since my grand daughter was sleeping we waited in the car for our table. It was ready in 15 minutes so early. I ordered off the a la carte menu to sample several items. Biscuit and Gravy and cinnamon roll were excellent. Good bacon and 2 scrambled eggs. We enjoyed our food and the service was great. I've come here fairly frequently over the last several months and I will say that some things they do well and some things they don't. When they are not busy, their customer service is excellent. When they are super busy, their customer service is adequate. The ambience here is definitely old-school café where you can sit next to strangers at a big long tables and in the old days where farmers would come to chat with each other after working all morning. Their French toast sandwich is delicious. Their omelettes, also delicious. Bacon. Yum. Pancakes also yum. Cinnamon Rolls, OMG. The one thing consistently that I do not care for here are their hashbrowns. To the point that I try to order things that don't include them. The menu says they are golden and crispy. They are not. I have asked specifically for them to be golden and crispy. They, still, are not. I don't complain after they are brought incorrectly cooked. I don't send them back. I just don't eat them. But I have never once been here where I've been served hashbrowns that made my tummy smile in delight. They are flavorless and mushy. Slightly more solid than the consistency of mashed potatoes. The coffee is weak. Typical of many breakfast places, though. read more

Near the end of our time, another server brought by fresh chocolate chip cookies, still hot from the oven! Food: 4.5, I loved my spinach, onion, mushroom, sausage and cheese omelet! The hash-browns were pretty good but not over-the-moon good. My wife and friend shared a huge cinnamon roll that they couldn't all eat, but did say it was heavenly! Everyone remarked about the huge portions. Ambiance: 5, Classic diner chic, tin signs on the walls, framed Gazette reviews of Sandy's, old hardwood paneling. The place was clean as a whistle! It is noisy, but a happy people kind of noise! Although the place was really busy mid morning on a Saturday, no one waited more than five minutes for a table. Sandy's is a hole-in-the-wall gem serving up classic diner fare in a no-frills, kitschy atmosphere that honors the area's cowboy heritage. Everything comes in ample portions and is prepared to perfection. Breakfasts are the star here and there is the traditional selection of eggs, pancakes, and southwest entrees. Today, we had the eggs benedict as well as the huevos divorciados. We also had the cinnamon roll which is a 'must-have' complement to any breakfast dish. We also need to commend the service which is prompt, attentive, and on-target. Despite being a full house, our coffee never got less than half full which is the mark of excellence. I had high hopes for this place, but came away with mixed feelings. The staff here was very friendly, so hats off to them for that. It's pretty rare that I would ever send a dish back at a restaurant, but the chicken strips they served us were so over cooked that after one bite, I was seriously concerned I would chip a tooth. To their credit, they took them back, and remade them, and they were cooked properly the second time. They still weren't great tasting, though. Maybe it was my fault for ordering chicken strips at a diner in the first place (I had been eating breakfast at the hotel everyday, and was a bit fatigued with breakfast food at that particular moment). I also upgraded my fries to chili-cheese fries. Much to my surprise they came with green chili, and oddly, no cheese. At this point, I didn't have it in me to complain about the odd tasting chili and no cheese. As for the cinnamon roll? It was huge, and pretty decent. I wouldn't say it was great enough to give this place a great review, but it was decent enough. Overall just a so-so experience for us. read more

I honestly don't recommend this place. It looked good and had great reviews but it did not live up to the hype. It was very crowded too, as if it was located in Denver. The French toast I got tasted like the stuff they previously cooked on the grill and other than that, had no flavor. My whole table's hash browns were cold and mushy even though they weirdly looked crunchy. Same with the toast, it looked and felt crunchy with my fingers but not with our mouths. On a positive note, if you do decide to come here, I highly recommend the chicken fried steak. It's very good and very crunchy. I also recommend the bacon and pancakes as well. At the end of the meal, the waitress seemed to be poking out her breasts to my brother in law (who was paying) to get a better tip. My husband almost paid...and I'm glad he didn't. It was giving, Hooters. Even though there were positives, I don't believe we will be coming back here to eat. read more

Great family style restaurant! The most friendly and attentive staff you'll find anywhere. They even bring around trays of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies while you wait for your food. Sandy's is a basic diner. No thrills. The house hot coffee was good. The french toast was dry and thin like it was pressed on the grill with a spatula. I like a more fluffy and eggy french toast. The homefries were bland. We also got a small cinnamon roll for the table. It was pretty big, but it was bland and so dry. The only thing that saved it was the massive amount of icing poured on it. The table next to us got the larger cinnamon roll, and it was gigantic. Pricing was reasonable. The coffee service was great. The servers came by plenty of times for refills. I live 20 mins away but was in the area for archery. I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to return. read more

Our family members told us about this little diner so we decided to try it on one of the mornings we were on our own. They were right...little diner with that old hometown feel. They offer three community tables as well as other seating and counter seating. We both decided to go with traditional breakfasts, I ordered a hamburger patty, two eggs over medium along with extra crispy home fries. Overall an ok breakfast...the patty lacked seasoning; the eggs were cooked perfectly so that when you broke the yolk, it ran onto the patty (I always stack my eggs on top of my patty!); the home fries were were cooked perfect, although I added salt and pepper (they had no seasoning either). Wife had the the half of a veggie omelet, which was full of a variety of vegetables but the eggs were a bit over cooked. She had the hash browns, extra crispy and although they lacked seasoning, they were so crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. I had marble rye toast with my order and the toast was cooked well but there wasn't much butter on it...yes! I could have asked for additional butter but I didn't. We also ordered a small oatmeal, which came with raisins and a lot!!! of cinnamon! And of course we had to try the cinnamon roll, which was big, covered with frosting. Sweet but we found the actual roll a bit dry. And again...I'm aware that all of these are preferences of the individual eater! My biggest reason for the three is just the overall lack of seasoning we found on all of the food. My wife ordered hot tea and was presented a huge tea box that had a great selection of teas! Overall a good experience and we could see why it would be a local favorite. read more

Very disappointed. Walked in this morning with my two young children. The sign at the door said to "seat yourself," so we did. The two servers up behind the bar seen us, and immediately gave us dirty looks. I'm guessing it was because the only table available, was dirty. But we didn't mind. We knew the server would come wipe it down. Instead, she came and took the trash, didn't greet us, and gave us a dirty look, like she didn't want us there. So we got up and left. I've been here many times, and have never received that kind of service. I will not be back. It was very hurtful for my kids and I to be treated that way. read more
