    Bangers and Mash

The most amazing Bangers and Mash I have ever had! We went around 2:30 in the afternoon so it is a slow time but was also staffed for a slow time. There was one cook and the waitress and a large party had came in prior to our arrival. The waitress was straight forward about the possible wait time for the dish but we opted to order anyway and get an appetizer. This dish is worth every minute of the wait! Absolutely phenomenal! The waitress was amazing as well. Can't wait to go back! It's going to be hard to order anything else after getting the B&M but there were some other options I had my eye on.

Ordered a wet chicken burrito- got 2 beef tacos

I came here as I was staying at a nearby hotel and didn't want to walk/drive far. Ive Been driving cross-country and wanted something close. We ordered TO-GO cuz we didnt want to wait and had dogs at our hotel. Here it goes: I go in and there are 2 others at the bar. Very slow day I guess. :/ Anyways, i wanted to order a bacon burger but they were out of bacon! who the h!!! runs out of bacon! I ended up ordering a "huge" wet chicken burrito.... The bartender said I wouldn't finish it... I got back to the hotel and they gave me 2 beef tacos... Was this a joke? See picture I ordered my wife a cheeseburger (clearly frozen patty, suppose to have swiss and american cheese, only kraft single) with fries (yes, the frozen crinkle cut ones) She also wanted a side salad with ranch... Got back to the hotel to discover their side salad consists of iceberg lettuce. No croutons or garnish as the menu stated. Nice bartender, said she was new. She should run away from this place. No wonder it was empty there. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

We went for lunch here on a Thursday. I had a Cobb salad which had lots of turkey and bacon on it. The food was above average for a bar/grill. The real cool thing is the outside patio. If you are there on a nice day, sitting outside is excellent. Thursday is apparently '$2 you call it'. Overall it's a pretty cool place for the price.

First I had some pastrami egg rolls that are surprisingly delicious. Crispy on the outside and flavorful on the interior. The shrimp were very average and didn't seem freshly battered there. The sauce however was tangy, spicy and a perfect match for the crunchy shrimp. Jalapeño poppers were the star of the night here. Spicy, cheesy, and they come with a rugged texture on the surface. Ranch dressing was thick perfecting for dipping. The brisket macaroni and cheese was a bitter sweet experience. The meat was shredded and flavored. It honestly tastes more like pulled pork butt. That part was delicious. However, the macaroni has NO flavor or seasoning whatsoever. There's no cheese pull or roux to be found. I would not order it again. Overall this is a very friendly bar in a small town. So far it's number 2 in this area.

Last night was my first visit to Fiddler's Hearth, despite wanting to check this place out ever since I started dating my boyfriend, who lives in South Bend, a year and a half ago! Their regular menu looks sooooo good and their restaurant week menu also looked good! Just a note - only 2 of the items on their restaurant week menu appear on the regular menu, so get these unique dishes while you can these next two weeks! Like I said, I have been wanting to check out this SB institution for ages! Inside is adorable and absolutely maximalist. My minimalist mom would have a heart attack coming in here. So despite it being -5 degrees out, Fiddler's Hearth was packed and we were glad we made reservations. It was the first day they had the special restaurant week so it did take 2 hours for us to get through and finish everything because the kitchen had to make all these new items but I won't fault the restaurant for that in my review today. I am sure it is normally a well-oiled machine. My bf and I both got different things off of the menu but ended up splitting so we could try lots of different Irish foods. We started off sipping in some unique alcoholic drinks. I got the shamrock coffee which had Baileys and mocha. He got the restaurant week special of a pear and allspice old fashioned. His drink was very strong. Mine was delightful and I was a happy camper sipping mine. Round one goes to me for choosing the best drink. The drinks were about $9 for the old fashioned and $7 for the spiked coffee. Next round was our first course, the appetizer. He got the steak pie (a mini version of the Guiness Steak Pie on the normal menu) for the appetizer which was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC and seasoned to perfection with lots of onions. I got the potato and leek colcannon cakes for the appetizer which were very leek heavy on the taste. I liked it but agreed his appetizer was the winner. Next up to the plate were our entrees. He paid $3 additional dollars for their take on a salmon wellington. It came with a side of brussel sprouts and potatoes. I chose to be a fatty and get the patty melt with medium rare prime rib, stone ground mustard, grilled onions, and a side of pretty yummy chips (ie French fries). It was a very wet sandwich haha. I personally think mine was the better one, while my bf thought his was the best. Sometimes, you just need a really wet and juicy sandwich!! Haha! Last but not least was our desserts. He was the winner here but just barely. His bread pudding was a calorie heavy delight, smothered in a white chocolate sauce. Mine was a cute little classic Irish dessert, a cranachan, which was sort of like a trifle. On top was a moist and chewy gingerbread cookie. In total, our bill was a little over $100 for tax and tip. A little expensive, sure, but we had a great time and came home very full! I will be back!

It was perfectly flaky with a thin, crispy batter, adding just a little salt and pepper makes it perfect. We also tried the traditional Irish breakfast. Everything on the plate was very good. The boxty (fried potatoes) was a little oily for my personal taste, but the flavor was still very good. What really impressed us, was the service. It was truly exceptional.
