I used Sheppard on a recommendation from my Realtor. He was reasonable. Some items were tough for me to handle -- but that's not his fault, he's just doing his job and reporting honest stuff, doing his due diligence right? He also allowed me to subcontract out items to get better pricing on things that he didn't have to do (like beams and stuff) So all in all I have to say he responded to emails quickly, he was pleasant, and did his reports to his best ability. This review is coming from purely the point of a seller. Alan is very gruff and not very friendly at all. I guess he was not friendly to me because he knew that I would not go with his very high estimate. I would not trust any agents/broker reviews as in the end they don't have to deal with him on a one on level. He is nice to them as they keep sending him business. To the seller, he does not really give a crap. He came very early to the set apt time 7:10 am verse 7:30 am. I should have made him wait it did not matter in the end. Just be warned that his estimates for house repairs are a good 20% to 30% higher than what you can gets licensed construction/pest company will charge. I doubt that he does all the repairs himself and he needs to get his % when he subcontracts the work out to be done. So glad I went with Harvey Construction instead. Edit I guess I got the name wrong. I never got a card. Looking back in the report, I dealt with Richard. The repairs took longer as Harvey replaced the window box that only was listed as repair (as per my review) and it happen to be in the high 90's one day in early June and wife reminded me that it rained most of another day as well. I am just happy that I don't have to deal with this company again. read more

Richard is either incompetent or a crook. We ended up having him come three times. There were a ton of items Section Two on his original inspection that should have been normal wear and tear. He also had several items that said he would need to inspect them in progress to approve the work. Ridiculous! The second time he came, he found additional dry rot not in his original report. Those items were fixed and the entire house was painted. The third time he came, he entered the property without permission at least 30 minutes before the appointment time and found even more dry rot. So I say again that he's either incompetent and doesn't do a thorough job the first (or even second) time...or he's a crook just trying to continue to collect more money. Either way, choose someone else. Update: Dry rot, like incompetence doesn't develop overnight. The second company we hired gave us a clear pest inspection with no additional work. Again, steer clear of this guy. read more

My garage entry sits right on the street getting out of the garage can be tricky This morning a Sheppard Termite Truck comes barreling down the street, instead of waiting until I can get out he makes this exaggerated spin around. I thought that is not a good way to garner new customers. I wouldn't use him if he were the last termite company in the world. read more

Sheppard Termite came out to Suisun City to inspect our home for the buyer. They found several things that needed to be repaired or fixed that would be called preventive maintenance. these items were listed in the Section 2 of the report. In Section ! there were 2 items listed. It stated there was dry rot at the back door and dry rot at the eve in the front of the house. The report stated these areas need to be removed and replaced. When I got home after they had repaired the 2 areas I looked to see what they had done. Nothing was removed and replaced. The area at the back door was sanded and then a primer put over the area. At the eve in front of the house they scraped about 4" of paint off and then repainted the area. So much for replacing these 2 areas as the report called for. The charge was $375.00. If I had know all they were going to do was sand and put a primer over the area I would have done it. I would suggest that if this company does the inspection for your home I would get a different inspector once you have Sheppard's Report. In response to the owner, there was only paint put on the areas that were supposed to be fixed. read more

We recently had a pest inspection performed by Richard Sheppard "Sheppard Termite Services". We were extremely pleased with the service and professionalism given to us by Richard. Scheduling the inspection was easy. Richard arrived promptly at the appointed time. He was neat and explained the inspection process to us before beginning his work. He took the time to show us several problem areas and the recommended repairs needed. We received our report the next day and the report was thorough, easy to read and included the cost of repairs. When we bought our house Sheppard termite did our inspection. Front cement stairs needed termite treatment, patch of dry rot needed replaced an floor in master bath needed boards under tile replaced. He offered to do work for a reasonable price. They came before we moved in to do the work. I trusted them because our relator recommended them. When we came to check the work I was appalled at what I saw. They ruined my master bathroom. When they took off old floor board they ripped the sheet rock up the wall, they did not replace boards under tile they just ripped my sheetrock put a new piece of laminant down, slapped the same floor board on. My sheet rock is ripped 2 to 3 inches above floorboards. It looks horrible. Floor still creaks an boards pop when you walk in bathroom. Dry rot is still there. They drilled holes in cement porch. Said they treated for termites an refilled holes. Because he is so dishonest about doing the work who knows if termites were treated or if there were even termites to begin with. I called him right away to have his guys come back. He was so rude. He said we don't do touch up paint. This was more than touch up paint. They need to replace the walls. He acted like he knew nothing about dry rot that he himself put in report. Reading other reviews don't know how he's in business still. I see relators reviews are great an people he did inspections on an did repair work are not happy. Stay away from this company, he will take your money an screw you. Everytime I see this guys truck at a job I will let the people know what he is really about. Ive called relators to warn them. This guy needs to be out of business. I would honestly never recommend anyone expecting to have their new home inspected to use Sheppard Termite. We hired Richard and Sheppard Termite Services to conduct a pest home inspection at our new house last year. Richard came out and conducted said inspection and recommended we removed garbage from the crawl space, tightened toilets, caulk a faucet, and other stuff. I thought he was overpriced but still paid to have the jobs done. Now, while Richard inspected our upper attic, he failed to inspect the lower attic. The access to the lower attic was in the same closet as the crawl space, this location was readily accessible. He failed to inspect it, as he was paid to do. Now we find out we have an infestation that predates our living in the house. Terminix came out and conducted their inspection and easily accessed the lower attic to inspect it and found, what blow our mind- an extra room filled with garbage, infestation, and an lamp that was apparently left on the whole time. Sheppard Termite was hired to inspect our house, our whole house not partially inspect. We even paid him his high rates to complete the work he recommended. But he failed to inspect the whole house. Even after being contacted, he refuses to acknowledge his lack of inspection and relies on semantics to excuse his lack of work.
