I pictured a nice sit down restaurant and that's not the set up. You order at a counter your food (kind of ale cart) if you want a beer you have to go across the building to the bar and order and pay for it separately. The bar was packed so we couldn't sample or really get to it to order. They have lots of mad brew selections. You can eat outside or inside and place your number on a stand so they can deliver your food to you. We ordered pulled pork with cole slaw on it with fries (shoe string). The Cole slaw isn't very juicy so it was just strong cabbage flavored. The fries were delicious! At your table you have a few bbq sauces to select to add to your meet. We went around 730 and it was busy. We will definitely go back at another time to try the brisket. read more

This place isn't bad, it just isn't as good as other barbecue I've had. The pulled pork was great, though, so maybe if I would have just had that the review would be better. There were 2 things I just couldn't get over - the brisket was served sliced so thin that I could twirl it around my fork, and my fork (the only utensil you receive) was small, made out of cheap plastic, and broke immediately. Just give me a real, metal fork already!!! Anyway - this place has a ton of beers on tap and the ambiance is fun. It's an order at the counter and sit down type of joint, which is fine. The beer is Mad Anthony, good karma and mosaic moon are my go to selection. I usually get a pulled pork sandwich topped with slaw and pimento cheese then load it with tangy and hot sauce . Well, I met my daughter here for dinner since she has eaten here a few times and I was hopeful since they have a few others around the city. Place was nice and clean and they have a rear patio/ children's playground arrangement. That last part is a joke because the parents just let their children run around while they sat and chatted. The coleslaw I paid 1$ more to have on my sandwich was so watery it soaked my bum to the point I had to ditch it and go wash my hands clean before trying to eat the driest brisket I ever ate. They advertise their craft root beer. I had something the bartender said was it but I am not sure they know what root beer tastes like! It was very sweet had no bite you would expect and zero carbonation! I don't think any employee actually test tastes anything before they serve it to customers.Waste of money to have even bought it! As you can probably tell my experience was horrible and will not waste my time buying anything there except the French fries. Seriously. They have very good French fries! Not a real fan of the rub so I wish they didn't put it on everything but it doesn't ruin the taste for me so I tolerate it. My wife loves the Alabama White sauce because it's not spicy. Okay I am actually a little impressed with Shigs In Pit. My coworkers were hyping this place up to me. As a southerner I was a bit skeptical so I haven't really pushed myself to go. One day I was craving some BBQ and well this hit the spot. It really showed me that it's not just the South than can hit a good BBQ. The brisket was juicy and had some drippings at the bottom of the to go box. The chopped chicken was pretty good but I was really about that brisket. The Mac and cheese was super cheesy. The corn bread wasn't the best corn bread I've had but was great paired with the brisket. I had some of the hot sauce they have but to be honest you really don't need any sauce for the food. The food was great on its own and I wasn't really a fan of the sauce anyways. If the restaurant wasn't a little ways from where I'm at I probably would be there more than I should be. read more

It was great to find this joint on our drive from Columbus, Ohio to Chicago. We ordered a two-meat meal, 5 wings, and a kid's meal. 2-meat meal wasn't so great. Had beef brisket and turkey and both were sliced so clean they didn't seem to come from the source, more like deli lunchmeat version of bbq. Flavoring and moisture were just ok. Sides were a flavorful, but warm at best, mac and cheese and mediocre coleslaw. The slice of Texas toast was the best part of the meal. Kid's meal was mac and cheese (seemed like Kraft dinner) with cucumber and tomato salad for a side. Best part of the kid's meal is that it's served in a frisbee that kid's can take home. Best overall part of our meal were the dry rubbed wings. They were well sized and tasted great. Overall ok experience, likely would only stop by again for wings and Texas toast. read more

Our party of 5 arrived at 5pm and was our first visit to Shigs and Pit. Over all 1st impression was it was clean and lots of seating. By the time we left around 6 was quite busy but it didn't feel overcrowded. I ordered the burnt ends brisket which was absolutely delicious. The apple pie baked beans was really good as well. The meal came with two sides and a toast which was too large of a portion size for just myself. Next time I go I plan on ordering 2 meat servings and split the meal with my husband. My second side I ordered fries and gave those to my husband to have with his brisket sandwich. I'm not sure why the sandwiches don't automatically come with fries. My daughter ordered the Mac and cheese with jalapeños and out of the 5 of us none of us really cared for it. We found the jalapeños to be a bit over powering. At the table there are three bbq sauces to choose from...original, hot and tangy. All of is really liked the selection but agreed the tangy seemed like it would be best used for a dipping sauce. I personally cannot tolerate hot and spicy foods but found the original mixed with the hot to be the best combination. Everyone in our group really enjoyed their food (with the exception of the Mac and cheese) and agreed it would definitely be a place we would visit again. read more

What a wonderful BBQ place !! A real gem - felt like I was really in the south with this southern food !! A group of us Taylor University students got the chance to order some take out & we will most definitely be coming back !!
