This new Shigs In Pit locations is beautifully designed and has a great atmosphere complete with a full service bar! There is a quaint outdoor seating area with picnic tables and string lights, which is where we sat. They got our sides that we ordered wrong, however, all of their sides are so delicious, so it wasn't a big deal. My favorite side was the potato casserole!!! Also, we got jalapeño poppers and they were delicious. I paid a dollar extra to get the brisket and it was so worth it. The waitress' brought out our food within 10 minutes and were quick when our sides were wrong. I can't wait to go back!! read more

My wife and I eat out a lot. We have done our best through the years to support the local businesses , but some time back we decided we were tired of paying for sub-standard food and overpriced drinks, local business or not. My Yelp reviews reflect this, and are my honest opinions, even though nobody seems to read them. Fortunately Shigs is a place to make the locals proud. We always sit at the bar rail, and the servers there are great, Jonathan in particular. Shigs carries the full line of Mad Anthony beers at a fair price. Never once have we gotten a bad pour. Having tried many items on the menu, we have never been disappointed. Reasonable food prices as well. Having whittled our dining options down considerably, I am happy to say that Shigs is a place we will continue to frequent. read more

Shigs and pit is consistently good whenever we go. Of course there are some times where the meat is juicier than others, but it is always well seasoned and delicious. The brisket and burnt ends are my favorite and I love their French fries. Everything we have tried has been good. The only barbecue I've tried that I enjoy with it without sauce. read more

I try to be very picky when giving 5 stars. It might not seem like it from my review distribution, but it's the truth. My wife had been to the Shigs In Pit downtown, however I hadn't so I was excited when we decided to go to the brand new one on Maplecrest. The inside is beautiful and a lot bigger than how it looks from the outside. There is plenty of room, ordering isn't confusing, and there is a really nice outside area in the back. The staff was courteous and greeted us with a smile. The menu is easy to read and has a lot of options. You can also order by the pound at a separate register, which I like. For the meal, I had the brisket burnt ends sandwich and a half order of the pork nachos. My wife had a pulled pork sandwich with fries. Word of advice: the nachos are HUGE. A half order was double what I thought it would be. My sandwich was outstanding. The burnt ends were cooked wonderfully and very flavorful. The nachos were superb also, and I really enjoyed the chips they use. My wife's sandwich was declicious also and the fries were some of the best i've had in the city (I stole some from her plate). Before leaving, I ordered a pound of the burnt ends to go and they were ready in a very short time. Enjoyed this place immensely and we look forward to returning. read more

I've recently had my first experience and pigs and shit. It was on the higher end of the BBQ experiences. The walk up wait staff counter was extremely pleasant, they were more than happy to accommodate our order and even went out of their way to answer a few questions we had about their 6 meat platter. Once we had intentionally sat in the "must be 21 or older to enter area" mind your this is 5pm. The need for beer grew profoundly and we then needed some refreshments. I approached the bar and was greeted with utter disrespect. I immediately felt the urge to concede my order and settle for the glass of water the wonderful waitstaff had assisted me with. With disregard for my instincts I reluctantly ordered 2 OG KUSH ipa's. This man looked me in my eyes and rudely asked "FOR WHO?!" As If I were disturbing his afternoon. I calmly then pointed back at my 33 year old friend with a full beard and said "'me and my friend there". With a look of disgust he then asked for both our IDs, assuming we were underage or something. Once I kindly handed him both of our IDs he snapped back and asked what I wanted once more. I told him that I would like (2) OG kush IPA's. Without a response or reaction he turned away to fill two pint glasses and came back and nearly slammed them on the bar and abruptly reached his hand out for payment. I chose to bite my tongue on this one and kindly not purchase the MADBREW crewneck I had previously picked out for myself. At this point I feel ashamed that I gave this man a cash tip, simply for him to treat me as if I was a nuisance. read more

In Fort Wayne on business, just tried Shigs. Really good atmosphere, had lunch so didn't drink but the bar area and beer list looked great. One of the largest and nicest bbq restaurants I've seen. Had great pulled pork, sauces were really good too. I didn't care for the brisket but could tell it was rendered out well and was done well, I just prefer a thicker cut. Sign me conflicted but solid in my thoughts. This place is gorgeous with lots of open space and light, the people are friendly and the food comes out of the kitchen fairly quickly even when they are busy, the place is always clean as well, but Shigs In Pit has a major flaw. Shall we begin? The best thing about the place is the side dishes. From the mac and cheese to the coleslaw, to the potato casserole everything is simply fantastic. The fries are to die for and they are always served hot and well seasoned. The soda is mixed right in the drink dispenser and is better tasting than just about any other place...but...and here it comes... The BBQ is just simply not very good and it is too expensive for what you get. The brisket is a joke. It is like they take deli roast beef run it through a slicer and then heat it in a microwave. It's way too thin has virtually no discernable smoke ring and looks more like something you would get at Arby's. The nachos with pulled pork look huge when it is served but it is mostly lettuce and other toppings with hardly any meat. The ribs are slightly better, but again they are not very authentic looking or tasting. BBQ is supposed to have a beautiful pink smoke ring nestled right under the bark and is supposed to smack you in the mouth with that delicious smoky flavor. Unfortunately, this is not the place - which is too bad because everything else they do is spot on. When you claim to be a BBQ place that needs to be the thing that puts you on the map and that you do better than anyone else. Unfortunately, Shigs In Pit fails miserably. read more

First impressions: The parking is generous and well-planned, the seating is well laid out and there is a massive outdoor seating area. That said, I was the first of 4 groups I saw that tried the "exit only" side door because I didn't see the tiny "exit only" decal through the glass tinting, and it put me off. I was able to seat my group of 9 fairly easily, my regular Wednesday group, it was crowded but the turnover was pretty brisk. The gal taking the orders was super nice, as was really all the staff, counter people and the wandering bussers included. The tipping is a bit unclear, but a couple of the staff said tips were not required, as there is no assigned wait staff. I normally get the smoked turkey, but since my recent BBQ experiences included Lucille's, and Bo Doogies in Auburn, I had to get the brisket and ribs. Starting with the sides, the fries were good, and the coleslaw was fresh and moist. The Brisket had a nice flavor to it, but was sliced super thin and stuck together, and had a taste and texture like it had been stored in a chafing pan for awhile. I think, comparison-wise, Lucille's is the best brisket I've had in Ft Wayne, and this location would be 4th after Bo Doogies then the Shigs Fairfield location. The ribs were not even in the running, just adequate, and the sauce selection does not include a mild sweet bbq sauce. The hard surfaces made the space very loud, even when only half occupied. I may come back, but it would be for the friendly staff, and not the above-average bbq. Would be a 3.5 if that was available. Final note: I have heard people rave about bbq nachos from here and Lucille's, so that may be my next thing to try. read more
