When it comes to kabob in Glendale your options are limitless. But when it comes to GOOD kabob in Glendale you have about 3-5 choices and for me Shiraz takes the cake.. or the kabob so to speak. My family has been ordering from Shiraz for yeeeeears. It's pretty much tradition to order for pick-up from here on my Dad's birthday every year. It's his favorite kabob place. I haven't been to some of the other options in Glendale for a long time so unfortunately I cant really compare, all I can say is I always LOVE the food from Shiraz. The rice is sooooo delicious. I'm pretty sure God himself comes down and creates the rice after every order is placed because that is the only way I can imagine this heavenly rice is created. Most of the time I get the Soltani which is a combination of Beef Barg and Koobideh. You also can't go wrong with Chicken Kabob or Boneless Chicken Kabob. The meats have always been absolutely perfect, never dry and full of flavor. For you non-meat eaters they have some vegetarian options as well. For you pescatarians they also have a small selections of sea food. I haven't tried their sea food yet but I'm thinking of giving their Mahi Mahi kabob a try next. Food is whatever, service was wonderful, but my biggest issue was the cruel and inhumane fish enclosure. 3 koi and a very large black moor in an extremely shallow and cold little fountain that was 20 gallons tops. No heat, substrate, or rocks. The black moor was showing signs of distress and swim bladder problems. On top of it, the spider plant above the fountain has a horrific scale infestation. Plants and fish are beautiful, but they require certain living conditions and upkeep, and if you can't keep up with it, I think it's a bit gross to serve food next to infested plants and dying fish, and cruel to the fish. The spider plant was so disgusting I didn't take a photo and just left, but it likely can't even be saved at this point. They should throw it out before the infestation spreads, if it hasn't already. The employees were very kind, so I hope the owners see this comment and make some changes. Or at least give the fish away to people who can actually care for them and throw out the infested plants. read more

This once amazing restaurant with kind servers and staff has since reduced itself to a pitiful place, the food is inconsistent at BEST!, the staff is inconsiderate, rude, condescending and downright unhelpful. Luckily they caught me on a good day otherwise the person who was supposed to handle seating would of had someone in his face, and trust me, it wouldn't have ended well. Regardless, tread lightly here, this is not the place it used to be both in food, flavor and service, I usually spend $200 - $300 depending on our party and that will no longer be the place I attend and welcome my guests too. The service was so bad we had to leave before being seated. While waiting to be seated, we saw multiple tables upset about the wait to pay or for their food to be served or for orders to be taken. I made a reservation to make sure we don't wast time and after waiting for 20 minutes to have someone to talk to (cause no one was at front desk) they were extremely rude that we had to leave. read more

This has been so far the worst Persian food I've ever had. Being Persian and coming from another state, one of the reasons I came to Los Angeles for my vacation was the authentic Persian food. I ordered the beef barg kabob and my fiancée ordered the koobideh. The beef barg kabob was not even close to a barg kabob! I live in Arizona and we have Persian restaurants that their food is 10 times is better than this. My barg kabob was very dried and tasteless, I can't believe I paid $23 for it!!And they used yellow color on it which gave it a weird look. I didn't even finish half of it. My fiancée's koobideh was over cooked and didn't taste great as well. The staff in my opinion were very young and inexperienced and were dressed very bad. Got the boneless chicken kabob. On a positive note, the chicken was well cooked, tender and juicy. On a mostly negative note, it didn't have much flavor. It had a yellowish hue but very little saffron or lemon flavor. It came with a gigantic mountain (like 2-3 cups) of plain rice and a pita but no hummus or garlic sauce. My family has had a long history with Shiraz and we have never been disappointed. My mothers engagement party and baby shower was here, along with my christening. To this day we are still in love with the food and service. Sorry, but Raffi's Place is not even comparable to here! There servers are always friendly and well versed on the menu. We have had the pleasure of having Victor as our waiter a few times and he is very professional and friendly. Many times when we have attended with big groups they give us complementary appetizers (salad shirazi, mast o musir, eggplant borani), all of which are delicious. Their tadeek with ghormeh sabzi is to die for and their kabob, which I had when I still ate meat, is the best I have personally ever eaten. Had the absolute best time here on a Friday night with a large group. The live music was so much fun and the dancing that started up around 9pm got everyone moving after dinner! The food is easy to order for a large group we got a wide variety of skewers and a bunch of apps. I would say the best part of the meal was the hummus and the eggplant dip we definitely went back and ordered a second round. Shiraz is often overlooked, being the 'Plan B' to Rafis if you are looking to eat Persian food in Glendale. I have to admit, I stopped at Shiraz for dinner one night when Rafis had a 2 hour wait, but I still NEEDED my Persian fix. I was pleasantly surprised!! I waited maybe 10 minutes for a table on a Saturday night, and there was live music, dancing by guests and the food was up to par with Rafis. It's a shame that not many people know that Shiraz is actually so good. I also appreciate that you get a more authentic Persian platter when you order kebab here - with the kebab served atop warm bread, Shirazi salad, saffron rice and the grilled tomato, compared to the roasted pepper side you get at Rafis (does any Persian actually eat that?? Horrible restaurant and management. I ordered salmon, tadig with ghorme, soltani, lentil and yogurt soup, yogurt and salad shirazi from this place for to go. When I got home and opened the boxes to serve my kids I noticed both soups were so oily and the lental soup had an odor. The salmon was burned and the rest of the food was very greecy. I called the restaurant to share my experience and the owner asked me to box the food and take it back to him. When I go to the resturant I dropped off the bag and left because my son was very ill with very high fever and I didn't want him alone. Few minutes later the owner called me and basically accused me of eating the food and then returning the containers. Unbelievable what a low life this guy was. It was then when I told him I don't even want refund I am disgusted by him, his food and service. He continued by saying good I wasn't going to refund you and you don't deserve a good food like this. Shiraz has been in Glendale for a very long time, and I have been going here for a long time and seen just about the evolution this place has gone through. Parking is either on the street, or out back. Food- You have to be there on a good day, sometimes the meat is very stale and dry and sometimes it is amazing, but it really isn't that bad or good when it comes to it. Quick Tip: Kash-ka-batoom-jan (eggplant dip) even if you are not armenian or persian. You should try this, this is my favorite appetizer and as far as I know, Shiraz is the only place in Glendale that makes it good. I really believe they need to change the quality of the meat they use because like I said its either a hit or miss. Rice needs to change also because it just tastes so generic. I also love their live band every Sunday! It melts my eardrums every time Avo puts his fingers on the strings of the guitar! But, Taco needs to work on her violin, but keep going!
