Good bagels and breakfast sandwiches. However, being that it was not even busy the service was very slow. I've noticed over time that even before the pandemic it has always been slow service. Ionly ordered a bagel with cream cheese and it took over 15 minutes and come to realize when I finally asked about my order after 3 other people went before me who ordered after me with more complicated orders, they didn't even have order listed. I get they we are in a pandemic but when you have at least 8 workers working on the line and two just kind of walking back and forth not doing anything I don't see how you could be that slow and than not even make the order. Ordered a pick up order for two bagels, one cinnamon sugar one jalapeño egg sandwich. The wait time was decent for a pick up, maybe 15 mins max. Once we actually got in to pick up the food we had to wait an additional 7 minutes to be acknowledged. When I let them know I placed an order the worker was scrambling to look for my order that was supposed to be ready. There were probably 7 workers just bunched together looking lost. They finally got my order to me and they let me know that neither of the bagels I ordered were not available so instead of calling me or just asking me for a replacement they took it upon themselves to just give me random bagels. They just handed me the order as if I approved of them their random choices. I asked if there was anyway I could get them re made with bagels of my choosing and the worker told me it'd be an extra charge if I did which is ridiculous. I made the comment that I didn't think it was okay to upcharge me and eventually just said that i was fine with not paying it. It took another few minutes of waiting for my food they finally handed it over I was already in too much of a rush to double check it. When I was finally able to eat I realized they still managed to get my order wrong. With missing items. This was my first and last time i'll be ever eating here. The bagels are really good, but no better than say a Bruegger's and they're over-priced. I ordered one bagel toasted with cream cheese and was surprised to have to wait for it a good 5 minutes or so. The staff member I interacted with was pleasant enough - not overly welcoming but also not rude. It was just a sort of a so-so experience. Enough with the 3 times a day juicing diet already, give me some freaking carbs already! This girl is hungry and never ever going to be a size 000 like the rest of them. The cashier told my sister about the orange juice and how its a best seller. My sister love love looooooooves fresh orange juice so she bought that as well. Food took a minute to come out, but I rather have food take a little longer than super fast. Rushy places most likely F up your order. Plus food tastes fresher when more love was put into it. So my fiesta bagel was on a jalapeno cheddar bagel (any choice bagel,) Stuffed with egg whites, pepperjack cheese, red onions ,avocado , salsa and bacon. This was a heavy bagel and soooooo good. Every ingredient shined on its own. I suggest if you can't eat something this heavy, share it. If you try to have it later for the second half, especially when you leave it in the refrigerator , the cheese coagulates and it's not as good. So share it or try to be a fat ass and eat the whole thing right there! My sister LOVED her bagel, great amount of blueberry cream cheese. Sadly the orange juice was so tart, she instantly got a canker sore and was in pain quite a bit :( Overall the meal itself was satisfying , we even came back a few weeks later. Rach ordered the same bagel and I did the lox. Pretty solid lox bagel, also heavy but that's ok, I rather have more than less. We will continue to get our bagel fix here, if in the area. I love this place. The line is usually out the door, but it moves pretty quickly, and there is a decent amount of seating when you combine the inside and outside tables. There are a lot of to-go orders as well, which is often what I do. I also occasionally ride my bike here as well. I have a few go-to orders, either a toasted everything bagel or the ABC sandwhich on a toasted whole wheat everything bagel. Always ask for a side of lemon pepper as well! I also LOVE their iced coffee, I drink it black and its the perfect smooth and slightly sweet taste. It's an explosion of carb-comforting flavor! Of course to wash it down I'd need to get their Strawberry-Banana smoothie. It was mediocre but satisfying nonetheless. Made on the spot. I wouldn't expect much. The sandwich also came with some of their own toasted bagel chips (how clever/genius, made with their own bagels I suppose; tasty as well). The employees were super friendly, as one of the guys upgraded my drink (on accident, he claimed!). The entire feel is super beach-casual. Very casual location, attracting early risers to late-afternoon crowd. Young, old, adult or not, this spot delivers the goods and can definitely cater to any one taste. We love the food at Shirley's but their customers service is TERRIBLE. For example we got a to-go order, got home and they had forgotten an item. When GOING BACK to store they gave us grief about the item and said they put it in the bag but very reluctantly and rudely gave us the missing item. Another time, we ordered to-go from the Newport store since the bagel flavor we wanted was sold out at Costa Mesa (even tho Costa Mesa is down the street from our house) when we got home with the food we realized they didn't give us the cream cheese for our bagels. We went to the Costa Mesa store with our receipt and they refused to give us the replacement sides of cream cheese. They said we had to call Newport Beach and discuss it with them, when we called there was no answer, no option to talk to anyone. They wanted $5+ for 2 small sides of cream cheese we were missing! This is absolutely ridiculous. If someone has to drive all the way back to ur store for things your company shorted them, you would think they would be apologetic for the time wasted, Not refuse to help. read more

However, I tried their chocolate chip cream cheese and was whisked off into a land where you can exercise after eating and not get cramps. They make all their bagels behind a glass window so you can see everything :) I ended up with a blueberry bagel with a light spread of strawberry cream cheese. The bagel is crispy and chewy, however I wish it had more blueberry punch. The amount of cream cheese requested is also a good portion. Definitely would come here for my carb fix. $2.95 at most for a bagel with cream cheese ! They also offer bagel sandwiches and acai bowls. I have been calling in for at least the past 10 years to place my order for pickup. That is not an option anymore and you are forced to place an order online which does not have the options for the special preparations of my bagel or come and wait in a long line. Spoke to 2 different managers and they both differ to they are sorry and that this is what corporate has implemented. Well I have a message for corporate. There are probably a Baker's dozen of other bagel companies in Costa Mesa. I will try again in 2 weeks to place my order by phone and see if they have pulled their heads out of their asses. Shout out to the Sydney bagel from my hometown bagel shop in Ashburn VA. I've always loved adding cream cheese to a breakfast sandy and this place does it perfectly. Freshness you can for sure taste! I never thought I'd find a bagel I would enjoy again after trying one from Ess-a-Bagel in NY. So fluffy and chewy. As a native Californian, a bagel is a dry, hard piece of joyless bread with a hole in the center. Shirley's really surprised me with all its slick, chain store demeanor. It's not quite the same pillowiness of a New Yorker, but the bite and flavor are there and knocked me out even with a plain schmear. It was probably the flavor that impressed me the most. Ordering online was a no brainer. It was ready and waiting for me when I walked in after driving from Long Beach. I got 13 assorted bagels and 2 x 8 oz cream cheeses for my SNA airport team with a 15% tip for just over $25. Aside from the containers, it was fairly eco-friendly, too. They share a large parking lot which was almost empty at 7 AM. Staff are busy and efficient even if they don't smile or greet you. The girl who gave me my bag checked to make sure everything was there before she handed it to me.
