City Donut located in Newport Beach is one of those places where you see the sign and want to check it out. I love the old vibe and donuts in general. So I stopped in to get an iced coffee, a strawberry smoothie, and a variety of donuts. I'm a little bummed that the donut holes didn't taste as fresh as I would like. But it still was an average spot. I did enjoy that they do have chairs and tables outside. The coffee could be skipped but th strawberry smoothie was delicious! We love a local doughnut stop after a nice stroll on the beach! Always welcoming and the coughnuts have some nice depth to them and flavor that pops at you. Smoothies are nice and thick and we would love to come back! The old fashion doughnut was not our favorite as it had a cinnamon hue to it! Was feeling donuts and saw this spot i havent tried yet. Went in and saw a good variety of options. Old fashioned are my favorite. Got a chocolate and a maple. They also had a white cake with peanut. I've never had donut that didn't taste delicious and fresh in this place. The owners are super friendly and always really kind. Great donuts. Friendly, hard-working people (you can tell it's a mom-and-pop). Always a pleasant experience. I go there every few months and try to eat as many donuts as possible in one sitting to get sick of all the sweetness. It now only takes 2-3 donuts, which works to keep me away from sweets until the next time. Burning off the results of my method doesn't work as when I was younger. If you're looking for grilled maple bacon donuts, donut grilled cheeses or anything else newfangled (for you young 'uns that is like another word for trendy) you might be in the wrong place, but stay anyway (ok, to be fair they do have cronuts). The donuts are great and the service is even better. Having been here multiple times I can honestly say these are some of the nicest people I've ever bought baked goods from. From the crullers to the fritters (my personal favorite) to the chocolate dipped croissants this place is really delicious. The kids are hugs fans of the donuts with sprinkles, and the hubby likes their chocolate muffins. We've tried a huge assortment and nothing to this point has disappointed. Even when we've gone at night the donuts all taste fresh. The people here are THE BEST! My kids love coming here because the staff are so kind and thoughtful. Sometimes there is a little extra something thrown in for a good kid or two. I think that is the sweetest, much like their donuts. There are a LOT of establishments in the area that frown if you even walk by with a kid. It's disappointing. I rarely give 1-2 star reviews but this time it's necessary. I have been wanting to try City Donuts for some time now because I pass by it on my way to the beach and it was always highly recommended. Today I went in and ordered a bacon, egg & cheese sandwich which shockingly came to be almost $7 but I didnt mind the price as I was sure it would be worth it. The nice lady that was preparing the sandwich cracked an egg in a styrofoam bowl and put it in the microwave why o why would you put styrofoam in the microwave??? And why are you using a microwave to cook eggs!! If you are primarily a breakfast spot then please make sure to cook the items properly. The bacon was burnt, the eggs tasted like plastic and the bagel was days old. Will not be going back sadly.
