Been coming here after my shift in the mornings. My go to lately has been the CTA bagel on the everything bagel. I'm not usually a fan of fresh tomatoes like this, but holy heck this was delicious!! I think it was mainly their lemon pepper seasoning that makes it so good. It was so good, I bought an extra 2 oz just to have at home. I've never had lemon pepper that was so lemony. I've gotten their savory bagels before, but maybe bc of Covid and I had to bring it home to eat. It was too soggy and not very good. I love their fresh bagels and muffins! I got the blueberry today, and yummmms!!! You can order ahead too if you don't want to wait in the ordering line. But it goes by pretty quickly, so I just order when I get there. Shirley's Bagels is literally ALWAYS premium quality. I got the Santa Fe with a matcha and my boyfriend got the Mangolicious smoothie. It was his first time there and he loved it! Really impressed by the bagels from this shop! SoCal is not known for bagels so I'm always hesitant to try bagel shops down here but I'm so glad I tried Shirleys. I got the lox, egg, and cucumber bagel sandwich with cream cheese on an everything bagel and it was delicious. The bagel was light and chewy and not thought at all. There was plenty of cream cheese, egg and lox, and the crunchiness of the cucumber was a nice addition. My friend got the Santa Fe on the jalapeño and cheese and he loved it. I took a bite and really liked it as well. There's a hint of spiciness in the bagel from the jalapeño but it's not too much. You also get a great cheese pull when you bite into it. If I'm ever in the area again I'll be picking up extra bagels to take home! read more

SHIRLEY! GIRL! I don't even know you, but I met you via Door Dash and I just refuse to stop ordering bagels from you. I had the ABC bagel last week because I randomly was craving bagels before a meeting and I just have never ate a bagel sandwich that made me this happy. The bagel itself is chewy outside but soft inside and it's topped with cream cheese, avocado and bacon...never had that combo before. When it arrived at my house it was fully stocked and open faced! I got double the avocado, bacon and cream cheese! I don't usually care for bagels, someone from work will bring a dozen or more in for the office every once in a while, but since I've been working from home I don't have access to my bagel dealer. Today I had the same craving again before a double header meeting and ordered a lox and egg bagel sandwich and a cinnamon crunch bagel with cream cheese (for tomorrow) and was again, taken to bagel heaven. The prices are great, the sandwiches are okay, but the customer service was just unpleasant. I stopped in to grab a quick bite while my car was being serviced nearby. I came bracing myself for the long lines, but I quickly got inside to place my order. I ordered the egg, cheese, and bacon on an asiago bagel. The order took about 15 minutes to come out and I was expecting a nicely toasted bagel with melty cheese, but instead I got a half toasted bagel with semi-melted cheese. However, I was surprisingly pleased with the bagel itself (minus the half toasted part). The bagel itself had a great chewy texture and the cheese on top was just right. Other than the bagel itself, my sandwich was pretty sloppy. Now let's go on to the ever so lovely woman that took my order! The store was decorated with Christmas decorations, Christmas music was playing... but seriously - who let the Grinch in? She was unpleasant to talk to and you can clearly see it on her face and the tone of her voice that she hates her job. Ordering my bagel was such an uncomfortable experience, I thought about walking out mid order. Not sure if I'll want to revisit Shirley's again. I think I can get average bagel sandwiches for around the same price elsewhere without feeling unwelcomed. read more

I called in an order because I know this place can get very busy. Upon arrival it was very easy to find parking and I was right, it was pretty busy (customers waiting on line outside). Since I'd called my order in, I could walk right in and be helped at their second kiosk. My chai was ready already. It was not as hot as I'd like it to be but still pretty good for a Fall morning. Then from there I waited about 3 extra minutes by their pickup window for my sandwich. If you're ever considering getting food from this place definitely order the Sante Fe breakfast sandwich it's so good. Shirley's has serves a wide variety of bagel/sandwich choices to make. The bagels are piled with meats, tomatoes and lettuces in addition to your choices to add. The sandwiches is so thick you cannot wrap your lips around the sandwiches, They not only have sandwiches in the pastrami or lox and bagels sandwiches but they have a beautiful variety of egg dishes. We love Shirley's. My husband makes a stop often and picks up sandwiches or a simple bagel with shmears (cream cheese and/or mixed with other ingredients of your choice. They are a busy restaurant, so the service can be a bit slow at times but the wait is worth it. The servers are pleasant and efficient, and leaves you happy to have been there. The restaurant is cute and clean. It is decorated in a fun style for the customers, which includes for children. read more

BUT the cost of two bagels with cream cheese, and two coffees with nothing special added to them cost way too much. I'm all for small businesses and mom and pop shops, but let's be realistic here. I believe the grand total came out to nearly 23$? We asked the staff to please make sure there was a decent amount of cream cheese because last time we visited the amount was quite thin. Excellent in house made super fresh bagels. Shirley's is doing it right the bagels are baked on site and really delicious. The line coming out the door says it all. The jalapeño and cheese along with the everything bagel was phenomenal. The chocolate chip and pizza bagel was good as well, the pizza bagel having a slight sweetness to it from the baked in pizza sauce. While the bagels are good no matter when you come in - if it is empty or crowded - there is always an excessive wait. They prioritize online orders instead of people who are in the store. We came in when 2 people were in the shop and it took 20 minutes for two bagels toasted with cream cheese. It's literally the DMV of bagel shops. read more

The restaurant was packed when we came, with most people waiting for their food, unmasked. Not the safest during a pandemic. Ordering was ok - the service was helpful but when I tried to order the Lox & Egg Bagel, which was about $8 on their menu on the wall, without the egg, it was like the system short-circuited. I only wanted the Lox & Egg Bagel toppings (cucumber and chive cream cheese, plus lox) without the egg, but I somehow wasn't allowed to do that. I had to order the Nova Lox Bagel, which was about $10 on their menu, switch out all the ingredients manually to match the Lox & Egg Bagel, and ended up getting charged about $12 for it in the end. Despite all of the that, the bagel still tasted good and was a decent serving of food. I probably would not come back during the pandemic but overall, I was satisfied with the actual bagel. read more

Visited this location today and was disappointed. I placed an order pickup about 25 minutes prior from when I scheduled my pick up time. When I first walked in, most of the women employees were talking and laughing. They were not greeting/attending customers properly. I was standing at the order pickup counter and some of the staff looked at me and ignored the fact that I was there and hadn't been helped yet. It was until one of the women approached me and asked me for my name/order confirmation. As I provided so, my order wasn't even ready yet. But that's not even the bad part! I ordered a breakfast bagel and an iced matcha latte. My latte was gray and EXTREMELY sweet. I don't want to exaggerate, but it tastes as if most of my cup had just been sweetener syrup. I am new to Newport. We have not set up the kitchen yet so I decided to give this spot a try. I am so glad I did. This place is poppin, but luckily I beat the line. After I ordered there was a decently long line, and for good reason. Their bagels are big and delicious. You can tell they care about what they do here, making awesome food. It is a super clean establishment with something on the menu for everyone. Employees are super helpful and knowledgeable on the menu. My order came out perfect. They also have different pastries to choose from which is nice. The blueberry muffin was great! I opted to try a sandwich and I got the Shirley's club on an everything bagel. I would definitely order this again, this makes a great lunch. I also ordered 2 sausage Californians for the fam, and they absolutely loved it. Happy and satisfied stomachs for sure. Very filling and they don't skimp out on portions. They even have paninis which is cool, maybe I'll get that next time. Ample parking.
