Twice I've ordered through GrubHub from this place with orders over $100.00, once on July 29 and the other order today, and twice my orders were canceled with the reason being the store is now closed. The hours of operation listed are the hours I used. Of course I try to call the business but I have only a busy phone signal to listen to. I'll be sure to spread the word and let them know that they can't handle Grub Hub orders. This was my first visit to this place...although I liked my food and I am sure I only scratched the surface of this culinary spot, I had to omit couple of stars. First of all, I value atmosphere and hygiene as much as my gastronomic experience. The two just go together. I am sure a lot of folks will agree. So with this in mind I will have to give this place another chance, and hopefully my food menu will be clean and organized, the floors will be spotless while tables attractive. If that will be the case I will adjust my rating, otherwise I will give up on this spot. By the way, the rolls were so big that I was forced to bite pieces in half. I was browsing through my Facebook feed, when I noticed a special ad for the Shiroi Sushi restaurant. The special is half off most of their sushi rolls on weeknights 4:30 to 6:30 pm in addition to hot sake and Miller Light for only $1.00 each. I decided to check it out and take advantage of the specials. The owners were very friendly, hospitable, and treated us like we were regulars. The restaurant is small, but cozy. I really liked an aquarium with an octopus. The sushi rolls selection is quite extensive. They were high quality, delicious and huge. My husband and I shared four rolls and we were stuffed. The hot sake was also really tasty and just at the right temperature. We enjoyed everything we ordered . Shiroi sushi is absolutely fabulous. Everything I get is fresh and delicious. It truly is a gem. I love that the restaurant is family owned and I'm greeted by familiar faces at the door. The specialty rolls are absolutely divine. I love the Kamikaze roll and the Godzilla roll. Both are massive and taste amazing. Their individual sushi pieces are also generous in size and always fresh. They also have incredible spicy tuna. I ate sushi rice bowl here for lunch a few weeks ago. Hwedupbap. I didn't think the fish was very fresh. I also heard the bowl used to be a lot larger. I'm all for family owned restaurants and I really wanted to like this place since a lot of people say good things about it but it was just OK to me. I would like to try other things on their menu tho. They have a course menu and they have live fish as well. I might have to come back one day. read more

I'm not sure what happened here... We've been coming to Shiroi (and it's predecessor Sushiyama - same sushi chef) for close to 20 years. We've always been welcomed like family. Until last night... We walked in at around 6PM on a Saturday night, without reservations. The restaurant was more than half empty. We were greeted by the hostess who asked if we had reservations. When we said no, she said that they were full. When I asked if there were any reservations available for any time that evening she said no. When I asked if we could eat at the empty sushi bar, she also said no. I can understand if they had a large party coming in at some point, renting out the entire restaurant - but that wasn't communicated to us. It looked like there was at least one table for two available, and then the empty sushi bar seating... Odd... maybe they just don't want our business anymore. This is the best sushi place in glenview/niles area. I visit here about once every other week for years now, and this place has never disappointed me. Not to mention the cleanness and good location but the freshness of sashimi /sushi is not comparable to other places. The owner family is very kind. Sahimi/Sushi Bento box has sushi and sashimi along with california roll and tempura (Fried vegetables and shrimp). Food was above average though pricy. Service was terrible: these people have scowl issues, seem unfriendly, and visibly seem to prefer some customers over others. The cleanliness is iffy, which is a big thumbs down for a place serving raw food. There's a lot of sushi joints in this area of comparative prices and food quality. This place just keeps getting better. Everyone likes eating where everyone knows your name. Food for the body, and ego. A warm welcome can change the entire tone of your day. I'm averaging once a month here. Its not close to home, but on nights I'm headed back in for company meetings, you'll find me escaping to this sushi island in the sun. Shiroi is run by a family. They take tremendous pride in their product, presentation and you can see it in every aspect of your visit. They have these giant fish tanks. Why? Cause FRESH SUSHI, why. I've never been dissatisfied with a single meal here. While I clearly love my sashimi, I've had every roll at least once, and tried a few less traditional dishes along the way. All of it is cut clean (I'm oddly sensitive to this) and plated well. In addition, they offer specialty sushi too; Toro, Uni.... The mark of a great sushi restaurant is their ability to appropriately offer a wide selection, without compromising freshness. There is no compromise here! Apparently this restaurant has no regard for its customers. Yelp said it closes at 11 pm but just to make sure I called them around 9:15 before heading over there. I got there at 9:45 and the sign on the door said open until 11 and all the lights were on and door was open. I walked in and there were 3 employees sitting at the bar eating. First they stared at me for a minute like I was an alien. Finally one of them says "We're closed" I was like, "excuse me? I called and your information says open until 11." Sometimes a girl needs some late night sushi. And he replied "not today" - no apology, nothing. They just decided to close an hour and 15 mins early when a half hour earlier they said they were open until 11. I can't attest to the food BECAUSE THEY WOULDN'T FREAKIN SERVE ME but I'm glad I gave them none of my business. This kind of service is reprehensible. Don't waste your time or money. read more

Ahhhhmazing everything! The service is stellar, sushi is fresh, maki rolls are freaking huuuuge but the restaurant is small. I came here for dinner with my family a couple weeks ago, on a week night. The restaurant was pretty busy considering it was a week night. The entree comes with three side dishes: pickled cabbage, pickled spicy peppers and seaweed with red pepper dressing. Very tasty! We started off with miso soup that was very salty. We had to ask for hot water so we could add it to the soup. My sister and I ordered three rolls: Godzilla, Rainbow and a specialty roll, I forgot the name. All three were monstrous! We were actually full halfway through the rolls. I should've taken a photo, I've never seen a maki that big. Seriously. My parents had a dinner for 2 special that came with a variety of nigiri, vegetable tempura and a California roll. The special includes a green tea ice cream at the end. My parents didn't even eat the green tea ice cream bc you can tell it's the artificial kind. I think the total for the four of us was a little over $150. Not bad at all. There's plenty of parking in the lot. This sushi restaurant is truly a gem in the burbs, located in a plaza. I came here with my friends for dinner last week and ordered sushi rice bowl. Usually it would be overflowing with food and fresh sashimi and veggies. This time the bowl was filled 1/3 of the way. I thought they forgot the rice, but I looked inside and there was a tiny, tiny bit. I will not be going back. We all are not coming back. It's not worth it. Had the chicken katsu and spicy tuna roll. The roll was bland and uninspired, mainly for the fact the tuna was mushy and the spicy mayo sauce was straight up boring. The Katsu came out, and it was ok nothing bad but it wouldnt be the thing for me to come back. Based purely on the taste, I give them 5 stars. The restaurant is a small, but very friendly family owned business. You will see many Japaneese customers, which is always a great sign when going to a sushi restaurant. My boyfriend and I started off with the hot sake and the tuna tartare salad which is served with seaweeds. It was spectacular. Huge chunks of tuna covered in sesamee seeds. We were also served free miso soups and some potato pancake appetizer. We shared an order of the tataki tuna roll (which is just stuffed with fish), and the bento chicken terayaki box which is served with a california roll, some fried vegtables (sweet potatoes, brocolli) and tempura shrimp. Everything was really delicious. I say everyone should try it. I can't wait to go back and order the tuna tartar all to myself :) and maybe try more rolls read more

All I have to say is sashimi bibimbop. Yum! I love sushi... I have been eating it before I was born! That's what happens when you have a Japanese mother. You get roll your own sushi night instead of Taco night! That being said I was a bit skeptical about this place. They have super crazy rolls and some non-traditional items. But they made a believer out of me. My Korean co-worker took me there and ordered sashimi bibimbop. It was amazing!. I would have never ordered this bowl of rice and what looks like salad with fresh fish and spicy Korean sauces on it if I were there on my own. I am so glad he made me get it. The fish was super fresh and the sauces made a great compliment to it. We went again the other day with a very large group and they accommodated us easily since we called ahead. My friend arrived early and was unsure about their hours as there was no sign outside the door. He used their bathroom and was then asked to wait outside. At this point i arrived and we sat and chatted in my car right in view of the door. Another couple arrived and they appeared to be family and exchanged warm greetings. When I walked in, I was excited since this place seemed like a nice hole in the wall and I anticipated great food and good service especially since we were the ones there. We chose a table and it only had one menu and the waitress only brought us another when urged to. It was clear when we were ready and we still had to pander for her attention to order appetizers. After we ordered, my friend had to remind her about his appetizer and we again had to struggle to her attention to order a main course and to get water later on. I ordered edamame ($5) and a chicken teriyaki dinner plate ($20) while my friend ordered ordered gomae ($6) and an udon ($18). The edamame was dry and undersalted. The chicken teriyaki dinner was rather sparse for $20. It came with a salad (with barely any dressing), soup (clearly from a box), and a bento box with chicken teriyaki, rice, 6 california rolls and tempura. Then chicken was moist but the sauce was oily. The california rolls were dry and the tempura looked unappetizing. My friend's udon was completely cooked, yet spartan. The spinach in the gomae was not cooked properly and the sauce was average. Overall, the place was too expensive and the service was nonexistant. I felt like everytime we asked for anything, we were burdensome to the waitress and that she just had better things to do. read more

Came here the other night and it was pretty decent. Had the unagi and shrimp tempura rolls. Unagi is usually my favorite roll butttt their sauce had a weird cinnamon spice which I wasn't fond of... it didn't suck but it wasn't my cup o tea. The shrimp tempura on the other hand was great. I really enjoyed the heat of the tempura mixed with the cool temperature of the avocado. They also have teriyaki bento boxes, with beef, salmon, or chicken. It was pretty good, the box came with shrimp and veggie tempura, gyoza, a california roll and rice... safe to say I split this entire meal with my boyfriend and was stuffed. The fish used to be amazingly fresh and quality was unparalleled. However, today is the first time that my sushi from this restaurant smelled wrong (fishy but a bad fishy) and the tuna looked wrong and the flavor was sooo wrong! Special was for two and came with: porridge, mackerel, seafood stew, spicy octopus, spicy tuna roll, hot post-meal rice soup and of course side dishes and rice. We also ordered the Godzilla roll (AMAZING). All the fish was fresh and didn't have that "fish was frozen" texture or taste. Not sure how authentic the Korean food was but my Korean friend finished all the dishes so I would take that as a good indicator. Not my first choice when it comes to a sushi joint, but it's close to home & we know the owners. Very very nice people. As others have voiced, hwe dup bop (japanese rice topped with fresh pieces of sashimi, lettuce, red pepper paste, sesame oil) is solid! I have eaten at this sushi restaurant more times than I can count and I can honestly say it is my favorite location to get a wide variety of authentic and fresh sushi. The family that owns Shiroi is extremely nice, and because my family and I are such regular customers, they frequently offer us sushi rolls that they are experimenting with on the house. The atmosphere is inviting, and you can see them preparing the sushi behind the large sushi bar at the back of the restaurant. The prices are very fair, and the sushi is always fresh! I always order the lobster roll, which is fairly pricey but delicious, with large pieces of lobster in it. The beef and asparagus appetizer is also delicious, and we usually get it along with our meal. My favorite piece of sushi at Shiroi might have to be the tomago (sweet egg), which is a piece of very sweet and soft egg on top of a clump of rice. To date I have never had anything from this restaurant that I did not like. If you enjoy fresh and authentic sushi, I would highly recommend Shiroi Sushi. read more

I tried this place out about two weeks ago since there were so many positive reviews...but eh. I lived in Japan three times in my life so I know good sushi and Japanese food, but honestly this was quite disappointing overall. We went on a Saturday during lunch time, but there was no one in the restaurant so it got me a little worried. Ambiance: It was empty so kind of "meh" to be honest. The waitress did not come out for a while and the guy who I am assuming owns/runs the place was just sitting there looking at documents and such. The insides look like some things were a little older (not necessarily a bad thing), but the tables were not the cleanest. I had to find a choose a table that wasn't grimy. Food: They brought us an edamame appetizer, which was good, as edamame is always delicious. I had the Tataki Salmon roll, which was not too bad. It has seared salmon over mildly spicy samon, I thought it was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. My bf on the other hand, ordered yakiniku (beef bulgogi) and was not very satisfied with his portion of the meal. The meat was dry and the rice portion was super tiny. They are korean-run so it was disappointing to get bulgogi that wasn't the flavorful,marinated meat we've all come to love. Definitely not worth the price. I can't say that we were too happy at the end of the meal. I don't know if we just went on a bad day, but I don't have much of a desire to go back to this place. Maybe I'll try again if someone else really wants to go, 2.5/5 stars for sure. read more

I just ordered my first delivery from Shiroi Sushi and I have to say it was surprisingly fast and the food was amazing as usual. We used the DoorDash service which ended up being free based on the size of our order. Also I called in a special request which was accommodated by the staff which I have to say was also a nice surprise. Avoid this place!. Worst service ever! I ordered a party tray a few weeks ago and was extremely disappointed at the unprofessional service, missing order, and low quality food. My party tray was missing a whole roll (around 8 pieces of sushi). I called them to ask about this and the manager refused to speak. Instead I could hear the owner making excuses in the back while the worker who I was speaking to inconsiderately apologized. They denied my request for a partial refund. Simply apologizing is NOT acceptable. How are you going to run a business if you cheat your customers?! It was absolutely infuriating that the manager thought this service was excusable simply because they were busy. Including the missing food and terrible service, the food was below average. The sashimi was cut absurdly large (once again probably due to the fact that they were "busy" but poor quality food should not be excused because of that reason). The sushi was really nothing special and the rolls were very sloppy. They even had this cream cheese roll which was a sad excuse of a sushi. Give me sushi not cream cheese tf. Went here with my siblings and my mother visiting from out of state. Sashimi dinner was enormous, and fed four fish lovin' Asians more than adequately. The various appetizers that came beforehand and throughout were positively amazing. The octopus on a stick with the marinade was a super delight. I would definitely order more of that next time. It was nice to find a solid sushi/sashimi joint out of the bustling city. Seating was plentiful, and we were all definitely loud. Their liquor selection is limited to less than a handful of Korean soju brands, and they had some Sapporo available, which I swear tasted like honey. It was really good. Definitely complemented all the fish we had very well. Run by a nice Korean family; my mother ended up chatting with the lady of the restaurant for quite a bit. If you get hammered after the many bottles of soju and Sapporo, definitely walk by the Dunkin Donuts which is just a shop or two away in the same strip/complex and pick up some coffee to perk yourself back up. Some friends and I ordered take-out from this place. They are new to the area and are still exploring the spots in their hood. We were quite impressed by this place. I wish I could remember what we ordered, but we went to town with something like 7 rolls (for three people...don't get all judgey about it...) and miso soup. They threw in some delicious potato appetizer and a scallop roll for shits and giggles. I wish I knew what the potato thing was because that was pure happiness in starch-form. I think there was only one roll we didn't care for, but I couldn't tell you which it was. Overall, they were delicious. Enormous rolls and a ton of food for the sum of just under $100. We had leftovers (though not typically the goal with sushi). Two of the rolls in particular had quite a bit of kick, which all of us liked. Been here countless times and love it every time. This is my boyfriend's family's go-to place for gatherings and such. It's a tiny place, so sometimes it can get packed, but I've never had to wait. Very friendly service... I think it's a family owned business... They now have a fish tank with live fish!!!! You can't get any fresher than that!!!! We always get their nabeyaki udon and spicy tuna rolls. ( and I mean ROLLS) Complimentary green tea and complimentary nooreung bop at the end of your meal. This restaurant or person working seemed to have a problem with DoorDash. We Ordered $90 of Sushi on 12.31 at 6:30pm. We waited an hour. DoorDasher arrived and was told they didn't get the order so they cancelled and gave refund. I called the restaurant to check. First the lady said she didn't accept it. Then she said they never got it. I asked her if we could put it back through DD and she said 'no no no, you can come pickup.' So she had the order it seems but hadn't processed it for some reason.
